Most items can be ordered a la carte or as a combo which comes with beans and Spanish rice. Flavor is good, but foods are not as authentic as those who know. Kudos for the all you can eat chips and salsa served by real Hispanic waiters (that sounds weird, but it works for this restaurant! Decor is very dated with red plastic covered booths. Dark brown woods and fake plants are everywhere, but it's well lit and the staff are friendly. Overall, I think the prices are too high for mediocre Americanized Mexican food. Portions aren't huge, so it makes The prices seem even higher. Living 20 minutes outside of Los Angeles, it's much too easy to find food that is more authentic and easier on the wallet. I grew up coming to Don Cuco and it is still one of my favorites! Unfortunately, although there are several Don Cucos, they are not created equal. This is my favorite location. The food and atmosphere are great. It is not the BEST food in the world, but it is better than mediocre. The place is always packed on Friday and Saturday nights. I dined here with my family because my wife really likes it. The server very professional and nice. The busboy seemed angry and never smiled, when I asked for water he said wait a minute kinda rudely. I got a bean & cheese burrito, it came on the plate with nothing, no garnish, no sour cream, no cilantro, not even a tomato, just a burrito and some sauce. I asked for some salsa , it was brought to me and when I got the bill, they charged us $1.50 extra for salsa, never let me know that was going to be extra. Went last night for the first time in years. I could not believe the outrageous prices!! $20 burritos, almost $6 tacos! We were starving and figured since we were there anyway might as well get something. We ordered food to go as we had a very cranky baby. I ordered the 2 taco combination plate and my bf ordered some egg thing, not sure what it was. Got home and my rice and beans were missing. I knew this place was going to be great based on it's outside appearance. It's old school! Unfortunately other Mexican restaurants in Santa Clarita have missed the boat, this place got it right! The margaritas were huge and presented in a hand blown thick oversized glass! YES!! PERFECTION! The waiters were friendly and very attentive. They brought fresh baskets of chips, and the salsa tasted fantastic, again old school...They had a perfect Chimichanga..(Fried Burrito) for those who don't know! The chicken was seasoned and flavorful, with just the right amount of sauce inside. The corn tortillas were fried on a pan before they were made into tacos. And the tacos were huge! Not one thing was wrong with this place, they did it right all the way through. Delicious food and excellent service! The hotel I am staying at recommended this restaurant and I couldn't be more pleased with their recommendation. This is my local Mexican restaurant and I go there often. Clearly I like their food, but this review is about their Caesar Salad. I'm always in search of a great Caesar Salad and theirs is really, really good. The classic Caesar has romaine, Parmesan cheese, croutons and Caesar dressing ONLY. I don't like it to deviate from this perfect combination. However, Don Cuco's variation is terrific. Instead of croutons, they garnish the salad with pine nuts. There is something so marvelous about the combination of Parmesan and pine nuts that I don't even miss the croutons. For a simple salad with so few ingredients, it's amazing how many restaurants fail to get it right. Some restaurants treat the Parmesan as a garnish, rather than an essential ingredient, and skimp on it. Some use inferior croutons that are so hard and stale they threaten one's dental work. Then there are the lazy restaurants that simply slice across the head of romaine, resulting in 6" strings of lettuce that refuse to go neatly into the mouth, rather than tearing the leaf into bite sized pieces as should be done. Don Cuco's manages to avoid these pitfalls. I usually order my Caesar Salad with chicken. I prefer the chicken breast to be shredded rather than sliced, because the shredded version is often juicier. I'm not sure why that is. Often, the chicken breast has been over grilled and is tough. But Don Cuco's, although they don't shred their chicken, seem to know what they're about and serve a grilled breast that manages to be juicy. So far, in my search for the best Caesar Salad in Santa Clarita, Don Cuco's is number one and, given that the origin of the Caesar Salad is reputed to have been a restaurant in Tijuana, I shouldn't be surprised! The one complaint I have is about the music. Why must every Mexican restaurant play the same polka-beat music? Honestly, I don't know even one person who likes it. There is a lot of very sophisticated, Latin-inspired music out there that would be a pleasure to hear. Please! Won't SOME Mexican restaurant lead the way? read more

I am giving this Restaurant 5 stars because for the area in which I live, Santa Clarita, in my opinion, it is the best Mexican Food around. I am always greeted with the most friendly staff, always smiling and always accommodating. Sometimes I go there just for a Peach Margarita the tortilla chips and salsa. This sounds ridiculous, but the reason we came up here from Hollywood was to burn up a tank of gas. Long story, but something we had to do while dealing with the Nazi's at the CA DMV for the smog and emissions nightmare. So we found ourselves up here, hoping the Mexican coma would cool our disgust with the car problems. We came during lunch hours so the place was a ghost town. But it's located up north in a shopping center so we were one of two tables there. The food was good, but we had a bit of trouble ordering. Our waiter seemed to know the other table that was at the restaurant so he was definitely more attentive and interested in that table and kept disappearing for long periods of time. But, all that aside everything was decent. We had the chicken burrito and fish tacos. The fish tacos were huge. Not my favorite, but they were pretty good. The burrito wasn't exactly what my partner had in mind, but it's a burrito and I warned him about food that is all concealed in a tortilla- anything could be in that thing. It's like a bomb for your intestines. I'm too scared of food concealed in a blanket, I want to tear it open and make sure there's not a rat-tail or a Band-Aid in it first. All in all, everything was good, if I ever catch myself wandering up this way, I wouldn't object to stopping in, but I'd definitely try some other selections from their menu. read more

Went for breakfast this morning, my peeps had the buffet, I opted for my favorite, Huevos Rancheros. This is two eggs on a tortilla atop of some re fried beans with some salsa on top. I love the Chips and Salsa here! Light crunchy chips of tan and red colors and tasty salsa. I ordered a beef burrito. It was big and smothered in red sauce. My dining partner and I ordered a wrapped burrito with onions added. No one said it was an extra charge, so when the bill arrived and $1.00 was added, I was surprised. You're a restaurant, a Mexican one, and should have had no issues with a sprinkle of onion. That was just wrong. Will I return? Probably not.
