I was in town for a night (it does not seem that many people actually would have a reason to sleep in Victorville or Hesperia for a night), and I was looking for a local non-chain restaurant for dinner. I looked on Yelp and found several restaurants, but most were chains or serving burgers, which I wasn't in the mood for, particularly because I wanted to find a place that had margaritas. The Yelp reviews were generally favorable for Don Garcias, so I showed up around 5:30 or 5:45 on a Wednesday night. The place was empty, so the service was quick. I ordered a regular margarita on the rocks, and while the waiter was getting the drink, I noticed a sign saying margaritas were $6.50. Happy Hour margaritas in the DC area are $5.00, so $6.50 seemed reasonable. I was very surprised when the waiter delivered a large margarita that was twice as much as I would get in DC. It also was strong (two of them and I had to turn down the third to make sure I could drive back to the hotel). For dinner, I asked for the green chili burrito (around $10-$11) with whole pinto beans (instead of refried beans) and extra green chili sauce. The burrito was large, but even more impressive was the fact that there was more meat (pork) in the burrito than beans. Everything tasted great, and by the time I left at 6:45, the place was filled with at least 15-20 other patrons. I have been here a few times and the food is pretty good. Mr. Garcia works the restaurant and is always very friendly as well as comical. There is a good sized menu, with plenty of choices. I was across the street to get some Mexican food which I know is pretty good. Not great, but good. They were closed. (8:11p.m. on a Saturday night). Lucky Me!! They do have food to go, which was great as I was just getting off work and not presentable enough to sit down at a place to eat...lol. The gentleman who took my order was friendly and helpful. I ordered the Chili Verde burrito for me, and Tacos Mexicanos for my wife. All i can say is I am so happy the other place was closed. The food was really good, made my whole night. Wife loved the tacos as well. The salsas' were very good. It would of been 5 stars except for the chips. some people like the thicker chips, I like the thinner ones. Just a personal preference, not a mark against this place. Food was really good, atmosphere was good, If you have OCD, do not look at the walls as many of the pictures are crooked, I wanted to go fix them all- but didn't. Plenty of parking in the dirt, no big deal. I will go back any time I get hungry for Mexican food. Made me happy. read more

Went there on Halloween. Usually the food is excellent but today the carnitas was fatty and greasy. Service is great and friendly. This was our first other than excellent meal. My daughter and I stopped for the night in Hesperia. Based on the reviews in Yelp we went to Don Garcias for dinner. It is one of the best Mexican restaurants I have ever been to anywhere. The menu is huge with many different kinds of items. I had shrimp enchiladas which were stuffed with shrimp and in a great sauce. The two young waiters, who seemed to be family, were friendly and helpful. I noticed that most of our fellow patrons seemed to be locals--a great recommendation for any restaurant. Was starting to feel like there weren't any genuine authentic and great tasting Mexican food in that city, but then my boyfriend and I stumbled upon this place thanks to Yelp. Out of all the places we've tried each time we visit that city this has been the best so far that we've found. The rice and beans are delicious as were the flautas. I have lived in the desert for about 8 years and have not set foot in this place until yesterday. This is truly the definition of a hidden gem. The service was bar none the best i have ever seen of a mom and pop restaurant. They truly understand customer service and dont even get me started on the food woooo i can right a book. The food was amazing probably the best your going to get for your money aside having your old mexican grandmother make it for you. It was reasonably priced but still 100 times worth it.
