Fajitas were great! Queso was a bit thin, but salsa was delicious! Good, prompt service as well.

Don Julio is a local Mexican spot with two locations, one in Whites Creek and the other, which is this location, in Madison. This location sits directly on Gallatin Pike in a small mixed-use/two story plaza located across from the Planet Fitness. We popped in on a Friday evening around 8:30 PM and to our surprise we were the only table other than a few patrons at the bar. This made us a tad nervous, which turned out to be unfounded when the crowds started descending on the place shortly after 9pm. As noted, while the bar may not be big, it is fully loaded so of course we got a couple of beers and a house cocktail with our dinner. I went with a sweet tea as well, which was never empty as they checked on us pretty regularly...actually our server and the apparent Manager stopped by. Food was solid, we went with a house burrito and a combination platter. Burrito was packed with all the goods and smothered in cheese, while the combination was everything expected and even came with a little taco holder! One thing I did notice and really appreciated was the authentic preparation of the ground beef, which consisted of differing spices and veggies. Gave it that extra texture and taste. Parking can be tough if you come at the wrong time as it is pretty limited. Overall, solid spot with good service and tasty food!

So I have to say when I pulled in I was a bit alarmed. It wasn't the big box Don Julio I was expecting. I was pleasantly surprised. Top shelf margarita is AMAZING!! Def a must. The chips and salsa were top notch and the nachos supreme were really good! I recommend the shrimp taco - great flavor!! Our server did a grest job. We actually paid and ordered twice!!! I would come again.

I came here on a Monday afternoon. It wasn't too busy. The menu was extensive with plenty of selections. I ordered a burrito and during the wait I snacked on chips and salsa. Nothing stood out about the salsa while wishing it was fantastic. My burrito arrived with a layer of cheese sauce on top. I indulged in my burrito hoping it to be reminiscent of a tex mex burrito or even better. I was disappointed again due to false expectations and it is my own fault. The burrito lacked the highly savory and flavorful meat I am used to along with cheesy goodness. The food here was decent, just not great.

What a great find! The building is modest but don't let that stop you from coming in. The food is amazing and the service is welcoming and genuinely friendly. We started with the chips - which were freshly cooked in the store - and salsa (homemade and FRESH). We moved on to a cheese quesadilla which was hands down, the most delicious cheese quesadilla I ever ate. I'll be dreaming about this! Dinner was a bowl of 7 mares soup, which was so loaded with seafood I could barely make it through half of the cauldron sized bowl. It was delicious, and 100% pescatarian. My better half had the shrimp and swai fajitas. They were seasoned perfectly and so, so, so good. The bill for everything (including an iced tea) was $45 before tip which was more than fair. I'm so glad we found this place.

Love this pace. Food: their Margaritas are the bomb. The Don Julio fajitas were delicious. It come with tortillas, rice and beans. The guacamole was nasty. I wouldn't even call it guac, tasted like some fake stuff you would get at the gas station. Just skip the guac. The chips and salsa were ok. Service: our server was sweet and very friendly. Environment: the ambience was chill. I appreciate the social distancing guidelines given the current times.

We parked in the strip mall across the street where we later went for ice cream because I accidentally turned too soon, but I was glad when I saw how steep their parking lot is, with all the telltale scrapes from cars bottoming out. Our family shared a plate of Birria Tacos which we all adored and the kids ate the dipping sauce as soup. The half chicken had so much flavor from the smoker grill out front and I loved that it came with pico and fresh radishes in addition to the rice and beans. The Birria tacos came with satueed onions, diced raw onions, and shredded cilantro. Two other families had young kiddos like us, and I loved hearing one little guy order his favorite, carne asada, which I want to come back for! So delicious, great atmosphere and prices. I enjoyed the murals throughout!

I got the chicharron pupusas, which is done the El Salvadorian way- it's like shreds of pork meat, not fried pork skin. The asada taco was filled to the brim w crisped up meat and their homemade tortillas were incredible. My husband had the Chile Rellenos and couldn't stop talking about it... not just how good those were but even their rice and beans! So much flavor! My hubby asked me what I wanted to eat and I told him I was craving for Sopa de Res so he searched for just that and this restaurant was one of the few that popped. The following is what we ordered; Sopa de Res-3 piezas de carne de res con vegetales, papas, elote y repollo con tortillas hechas a mano (Beef soup w/vegetables, corn, cabbage, served with homemade tortillas) Carne asada - con ensalada fría de coditos, longaniza, frijoles, jalapeños, cebollines, y tortillas hechas a mano (Grilled steak, spring onions w/macaroni salad, mashed black beans, grilled sausage and jalapeños) I have to say that we felt we were in Guatemala. The home cooking feeling was heartwarming. The food is so delicious. We were not disappointed. I highly recommend this restaurant. The service of the waiter, a young man, son of the owners, was excellent. He kept checking on us to see if we needed anything else or how we were. I honestly didn't want to leave. I was so content. We stayed a while and left a half hour before they closed. I wish they were closer to us. Thank you Emanuel Restaurant for your great cooking and excellent service.

And nobody judges you for letting your kids run around a little. Other families are there doing the same thing, everybody gets it, and for a brief moment in time, eating out with children doesn't feel like a hostage situation. The food is always consistent, the drinks are good, and brunch is probably the best move. It's family-friendly in the way parents actually need a place to be family-friendly, not just because they technically allow children through the door. They're making the outside even better now with the renovation and additions, which is great because that patio already rules. Good food. Good drinks. Great outdoor space. I ordered the vegan burrito thinking I was about to receive the warm, tightly wrapped cylinder of comfort that has powered civilizations for centuries. Beans. Rice. Maybe some grilled veggies doing their thing. The classics. What arrived instead was... a philosophical question. Inside the tortilla was a sparse scattering of ingredients that looked less like a burrito filling and more like the evidence table after a burrito had already been eaten by someone else. A few beans wandering around with no clear sense of purpose. Rice that appeared to have been introduced to the concept of seasoning only briefly, perhaps in passing. Everything loosely contained in a tortilla that had clearly given up on life somewhere around the folding stage. I actually paused for a moment just staring at it, the way you might look at modern art and wonder if you're missing something important. But the real genius of this dish is the confidence. Because someone in that kitchen assembled this, looked down at their work, closed the box, and essentially said, "Yes. This is a burrito." And honestly? I respect it. As someone who never misses an opportunity to troll when the moment presents itself, I can only admire the audacity. Putting this in a box and sending it out into the world with a straight face deserves recognition. Was it a good burrito? Absolutely not. But was it memorable? Without question. In fact, it may be the most conceptual burrito I've ever had. 5 sexy stars.

Another rare five-star review but this place definitely deserved every star!…read more I learned about the little taco shop in the back from an Instagram post and convinced my husband that we needed to give it a try. First off, plenty of parking. Bonus. When you walk into the store, everything smells clean and fresh. The grocery section is well organized. The produce section is overflowing with fresh veggies that are well-priced. You can find most everything you are looking for at a grocery store. In the back of the store, they have a deli and a little taco shop. There are tables and chairs, so you can eat there or take your food to go. My husband got two Quesabirria Tacos and a side of rice and beans. I ordered three street-style tacos: Carnitas, Barbaco and Pescado, which was grilled. I also ordered a side of plantains. Throw in a bottle of water and the total bill was $31. There was so much food that I had to take the rice and beans, 2 tacos and my plantains home. I just could not eat any more! They have housemade salsa that they sell in pint containers. The Salsa Verde was so delicious that I have been putting it on all my food this past week. It's spicy but not overpowering. I'm going back just to get more of that salsa! Reading the comments from the Instragram post, people told the IG poster not to give away locals' secrets. This definitely is a hidden gem!

From the outside, Garden Fresh looks like a big place, but once you walk in, you realize that it is a lot smaller than imagined. Even with a smaller space, they have this placed packed with all the goods from a small produce and veggie section, packaged meat, freezer, rice, dry goods, snacks, drinks, toiletries, etc...and of course they have a meat/seafood counter where you can get the freshest of proteins! I would like a bit more selection of pre-packaged/bulk meats on the shelves as the lines for the meat counter along with the line for the cocina can become overwhelming. While the store is packed with goods, this is a great thing, but also makes it hard to maneuver as the aisles and spaces are pretty small. A lot of "excuse me", "my bad" while shopping. Speaking of the cocina...in the back of the store you will find a small counter where they are slinging the freshest tacos, quesadillas, birria, nachos, tamales and more! While I may not pick up groceries on each visit, I do always make sure to pick up a taco or three to go! If you want to eat in, they do have a few tables as well. Service is always friendly and they are staffed well, notably for the busier times...which is more times than not, especially on the weekends! Condition of the store is decent. The shopping plaza is pretty unsavory, but once you get inside you are good and things turn around! Overall, great spot in Madison!
