My wife had a great time. The atmosphere was fun and relaxed and the service was amazing. We both loved our food. We need to come back on Sunday and check out the buffet.

I've lived in Bakersfield for three years and have always driven by this place and never tried it until recently. The photos in the reviews look good and so after dropping off a package at a nearby business, I decided to pop in. The place is like your typical Mexican restaurant, with loud music playing and rows of big, wide booths. I was seated right away and the staff was friendly, professional, and attentive. I ordered a shredded beef taco and enchilada. It was from the lunch menu which is no too bad for the price. The drink was extra and I ordered a diet cola. (I can't remember if it was Pepsi or Coca-Cola.) The food took a minute, and my meal started with the usual appetizer of chips and salsa. I was pleasantly surprised that salsa was delicious, it tasted fresh and the salsa was spicy! Then my food came. I was excited to try the cheesy, beefy enchilada and taco. The plate came with the usual Mexican suspects, beans and rice! No surprise there! LOL The food is okay. I read the reviews after I ate and noticed that most reviews cited that the food quality and taste was going down. Sadly, I agree. It was not great and not horrible. Have I had better...? Yes! The rice was not fresh and was dry and crumbly. The beans were okay. The cheese made up for their lack of flavor and smooth velvety texture that you would expect from freshly refried beans. The taco was okay... the beef was meh, it was just beefy. The taco shell was so soggy and unfortunately, I didn't get to enjoy the crunchy goodness when you eat a fried taco. The shell was not homemade either. Same with the enchilada. The sauce was good, but still the cheese was the star of the enchilada. I did have an amazing experience there, however. I met a couple with I quickly connected with and we became friends because we share the same love of Ecuador!! For this, I am grateful. Don't think I will go back. I really wanted to like this place. I hope your experience is different. Enjoy!

I was greeted and seated immediately, and a person came by for a drink order pretty quickly. The food server, on the other hand, was very slow to show up and when she did, she was in a hurry to leave and I had to flag her down a couple of times. Once, to get silverware. The chips were a bit stale and the salsa was pretty spicy. I ordered the Tostada Grande and the waitress had a hard time believing I only wanted beans and no meat. The Tres Viejo Amigos (tequila and orange juice) was very, very strong and I couldn't finish it as I was driving. The restaurant is very large, with a separate bar area. It was mildly busy, so seems like a local place.

    Sizzling, chipotle chicken enchiladas

Again, visited here, again so impressed. I usually get the chile relleno and tamale combination plate. Which is always awesome! But today I switched it up and got a Don P's burrito with rice and beans. It was also awesome! My husband got his usual cheese, enchiladas combination plate. He gets it because he loves it! We come here time and time again and we are never disappointed. Great food. Great service. Great atmosphere. I will keep coming back!

We ordered four burritos dry. Not only did we have to wait double the time when we arrived for pickup, as they were still cooking the cold food we received. But the boxes were made out of cheap paper which resulted in our food trays being smushed and soggy in the center due to the packaging. We had to eat our soggy wet cold burritos with a spoon. The food has gone WAY downhill since last October.

I had a 2 hour lunch break, and decided to take the wife to lunch. I had to go to the east side, and I remember this establishment when I was in high school. Decided to see if it was still there. It was!!! So, glad it was. The establishment needs a little update, but the atmosphere was great. The service started off a little slow, but after they took our drink order, the servers were more attentive. I order the Chili Verde tostada salad. So delicious. They are not chinsy on the chili verde. Very delicious. BTW, it was on the lunch special. I will go back to try their lunch buffet next time. Thank you for filling up my stomach for a reasonable price.

    Irish Trash Can

I have been coming here since it first opened. The server, Cynthia, was amazing! The salsa was flavorful and spicy. We had the sample platter and a Verde burrito. We also enjoyed a margarita, strawberry margarita, adios Mf and an Irish trash can! If you want real Mexican food and a great experience, come here!

    Receipts...literally!! Lol.

Little hidden gems. Lighting is dark with bits color and neon popping through. The Bar Top curves around the bar- there are two booths that seat 5-6 and two short tables next to them- one seats 4- the other will comfortably seat two. There are a few bench style seating areas at the front with some short coffee tables. Think- skater tiki bar. The drinks were good- small menu if you're not sure what you want or are new to tiki. Both sides of the menu are the same menu. There are some nice mocktail options as well- you don't see that often. The service for me is mixed- it wasn't busy- steady but not busy- 1/4 full. I ordered two drinks to start for our table- (no cocktail servers here/not unusual for a small Tiki bar) I asked for a soda water- the bartender looked at me without a word- popped open a can of soda water and walked away. When he walked back by, I asked for a glass of ice- he said nothing and I got an eye-roll huff. I almost left. I don't think providing a glass with ice to pour your canned room temp soda water in, is too wacky an idea to be perturbed by the request. The female who took the order was friendly, smiled and was professional. We got a third cocktail- the Mai Tai. The grumpy bartender was friendlier this time. So, that helped. Maybe he felt overwhelmed and I threw off his groove by asking for water- then a glass... either way- being annoyed wasn't cool. The music.... Wasn't Tiki- it threw off the "Tiki Vibe" and made it feel typical small local bar that serves only Tiki drinks with some Tiki decor. It didn't take you to the land of Tiki- disappointed. Drinks were good.

My husband commented that it made him want to move to Bakersfield which made our server Emily laugh. Limited parking in back and some street parking. We walked in without a reservation at 11:15 on a Friday and were the first customers of the day. Great decor, dim lighting, vintage looking furniture which does not sacrifice comfort for artistry. Our cocktails and meals were spectacular: Botanist Fashioned: 5/5-the brown sugar cinnamon syrup added a spicy bite to each sip which was unexpected and fun. Watermelon Sugar High:4/5-refreshing with watermelon juice freshly made in house and an ice cube with mint frozen in it. Seared cauliflower: 4/5-great appetizer for 2. The crispy chicken sandwich and the Botanist smash burger:5/5-Both had super flavorful pickles and toasted buns which always add a lovely crunch to each bite.
