Lunch specials. I think I saw the same list on a year old review. :)

Being from the east coast, I expected small portions based on the menu prices. I was happily surprised to see a generous serving of fish in my nigiri. One minor complaint is that the rolls had more rice than they should and the nigiri came apart very easily, which tells me the chef is not very experienced. Service was fast, our waitress was friendly and checked in often enough without being annoying. Overall, the food was fresh and everyone in our party enjoyed it.

    Chef special

Dam I was about to get chik fila and I was like let me see the map and I found this spot. Came in it was kinda empty too and DAMMM this was HELLAA FIREEE idk what it even was really tbh it was just amazing ask for the chef special in the picture this places needs more love

Wish it had the time they took my money with was 8:30ish so they took my money and didn't do any work

I ordered online and when my driver got there. They yelled at her and were awful to her lying to her saying there never was an order. I could hear her say I have the information here they once again lied saying they never took the money. They then yelled at her some more, locked the doors in her face, and turned the lights out. I called and was hung up on while leaving a voicemail. It was a small order from what I usually order from here but definitely my last

It was downtown so parking was difficult but not horrible. The place was very basic but the service was quick and the food was decent. The portions were decent and the foods overall taste was good! Might go back but nothing special

I made a return visit to Don Sushi with some of the lunch bunch crew. There circumstances that allowed us to consider Don Sushi shall remain undisclosed. None the less, Don Sushi was out knight in shining armor. We thought upon arrival that there were actually closed, but, I pulled on the door and it opened. The place was empty. I looked around a bit further back, and found some staff. I asked if they were open So I motioned for the crew to get out of the vehicle and pay the parking meter. We ordered a plethora of sushi, a bento box and a bowl of ramen among us. The ramen came out rather quickly, followed by the bento box. The sushi took a bit longer to come out but it was all served together on a large board. Beautiful presentation I must say. Their sushi rolls are big. I mean, the pieces are large. There are a bit difficult to eat in one bite, but they are fully loaded. I will say, that of the five rolls we ordered only one of them fell apart when you picked up a piece. If I recall correctly, that was an issue I had with them on my last review. For that, I gave them another star.

Two orders of the salmon tempura roll and the veggie roll.

This place is awesome. My girlfriend and I drive from Rio Rancho to come here and the food is amazing. As two people who enjoy both mexican food (and drinks) as well as sushi, Don Sushi is perfect for us. We ate our food so fast this time I couldn't get a picture, but we ordered: 2 Miso Soup 2 Salmon Tempura Rolls 1 Veggie Roll 1 Michelada 1 Sapporo To start, the miso soup was hot and delicious on this cold night. The beers/drinks were excellent and refreshing. Then, the sushi was also very good. The rice was fluffy and warm, the salmon was cooked perfectly, and the veggies were crisp and tasty. The ceviche was also so good. It taste like ceviche I grew up on from Vallarta in california but had a sushi-like touch to it. All in all we love coming here and will definitely be back!

And another one! Love this place. Always something different. Another successful chef choice.

Pretty good local place in downtown ABQ. Curry was good, but the wait for the sushi takes FOREVER...when it isn't even that busy..this is my second time here. I'm pretty disappointed in the wait. It's been over 30mins now. It's a tiny bit pricey too. Maybe I'll give it a 3rd try in the future.

(Bottom) Super Sancho (~$23), and (top left) Scallop Nigiri (~$6).
    Christopher P.

What a unique sushi restaurant! I came here on a Friday for lunch and we were promptly seated, so it wasn't too busy. I got the super Sancho roll (~$22) and a side order of scallop nigiri (~$6). The roll was delicious but pretty heavy due to the frying of the roll. It seemed a bit too fried and a little dry for my taste, but the portions were huge. I didn't eat anything else for the rest of the day (and I eat a lot!). Although I did get the priciest thing on the menu, I felt that the value could have been better. The scallops were pretty fresh though! The staff were extremely nice and attentive as well. I'd definitely recommend this place if you have friends that don't eat raw fish or are freaked out by it. They have a lot of options for them!

It is not the biggest restaurant, and is popular, so I would recommend being prepared to wait during "popular busy time" but it is so worth the wait. So I also recommend waiting. The staff is always pretty friendly and accommodating. I shared an app, a roll and an order of salmon sashimi with a friend on both visits. The food is always fresh, and delicious! I never feel like I am being overcharged for what I get either. Going to eat for sushi can feel like that sometimes. The quality of the food is great and everything is always aesthetically pleasing as well. I had their avocado bomb on my last visit and I was delightfully surprised with it. I like avocado in most cases, but sometimes, it can be a lot at one. I thought this was going to be like that when I saw it, but I was wrong. I look forward to getting one of these on my next visit! On my last visit my friend and I saved room for a dessert, one that we saw rotating on their screens that they have in the restaurant showcasing some of the menu items. It was a take on a bananas foster. It looked delicious but alas, we'll see if we can manage to get it next time. Note to self, have dessert first on next visit?

The final price (paying with cash) was $102.32 before the tip, which seems very fair given the size of the portions and the quality. The fish was not the very highest quality, but it was very good. The wasabi was some of (if not) the best that I've ever had. The soy and eel sauces were made in-house, and were excellent. Presumably, the rest of the sauces were house-made as well. Leo was a very good and friendly server. The atmosphere was very relaxed but could be suitable for something fancier. The one thing that hurts is the price; as fair as it is, I do wish that it were a smidgen less.

The two rolls I ordered were better than last time. One was The Green Dragon (i think) using Avacado instead of seaweed. The other was Lobster Dance which is scallops and lobster. The Green dragon was okay. The Lobster Dance would have been a lot better without the overpowering sauce. The nigir were okay, but I prefer my nigiri to not have a lot sauce and all three I ordered were heavily covcered in their cloying (oyster based?) sauce. The Monkey Balls were meh, I've had way better here. The Seaweed Salad was excellent which I think was true last time. I guess I still need to try the in restaurant experience, but based on the food alone I'm not sure it would be great. If anyone has a great place they like let me know!!!

That's why Sakura Sushi & Grill stood out right away. They clearly label gluten-free options on the menu. They also offer gluten-free soy sauce, which is a huge win. Even better, they have lunch specials with gluten-free options, which is rare. It's located in Riverside Plaza in Albuquerque, just past the river on the west side. I ordered the Sushi Lunch A with premium fish and chose the double salmon roll. Everything was incredibly fresh and delicious, and the portions were great for the price. The miso soup that comes with lunch isn't gluten-free, but they brought me a side salad with an amazing gluten-free dressing instead. I felt confident eating here, which is not something I say often. I didn't have any reaction afterward and would absolutely eat here again. One of the coolest surprises: they make their own wasabi in-house. It's not on the menu, but if you ask, they'll bring it out, and it is absolutely worth it. We considered getting a sushi boat, but the lunch specials were a better value for lunch. If we went for dinner, we would absolutely order a boat. I also had hot sake, which paired perfectly with the meal. At the end, they even brought us a sweet cinnamon tea for my friend's birthday, even though we didn't order dessert. Service was warm and attentive the entire time. My friend has a shellfish allergy, and the server made sure her plate only included fin fish, which we really appreciated. We went around 1:30 p.m. on a Tuesday, and it was quiet with only a few other tables. The atmosphere felt calm and relaxed, with a casual, comfortable vibe that made it easy to sit and actually enjoy a conversation without feeling rushed. They close at 3 and reopen for dinner, so it's a great low-key lunch spot if you time it right. My friend also mentioned she brings her young kids here often, and the woman manager or owner is especially kind and welcoming to them. I enjoyed this place so much that I called my husband on the way home to tell him all about it. We're already planning to go back with our kids, which will make this my second visit in one week. If you're gluten-free, this place is a gem. And even if you're not, the quality, service, and overall experience make it absolutely worth a visit.
