It's rare that I rate a local establishment as only 1 star, but today is that day, apparently. We stopped in for a quick snack, just two rolls and some nigiri. We were the only ones there. So your guess is as good as mine as to why it took 45 minutes for the food to even come out? Don Sushi is not the place for me. The nigiri came first, after about 20 minutes, and to their credit, the pieces of fish looked generous and fresh. My partner said the fish was decent but that the rice was somewhat overcooked and pasty. This is not a great sign...if the rice at a sushi joint isn't up to par, it's probably not worth going. We could see the sushi chef working on the two rolls...but not? He had rolled them and was just standing there bullshitting with the server. i understand that he was waiting for the tempura to come out of the fryer, but it might have made sense to wait until that stuff was closer to being done to send out the nigiri. So after 25 minutes, the rolls showed up. We ordered an unagi roll and a NM roll, both of which I've had many times at other places. The unagi roll is fine, I guess, somewhat unremarkable, and I did note that the rice was very mushy. What was remarkable, and not in a good way, was the NM roll. The tempura coating on the outside was EXTREMELY heavy and greasy, indicating that the temperature of the oil was perhaps too cold. This did nothing for the texture of the already mushy and overcooked rice. And though this roll was sitting in bit of grease it was absolutely drowned in mayo. I have a picture but it's actually too gross to post. Very disappointing. I attempted to blot off as much mayo as I could and it took, I kid you not, 10 napkins and it was still inedible. Very greasy, very heavy. I hate to say it, but this is actually some of the worst sushi I've ever had. =( Apart from the ridiculous slowness, service was fine, if a bit absent. The server was pretty unconcerned when I politely asked her to please pass on the feedback that they put far too much mayo on an already inedibly greasy roll. Took a chance on another Yelp search and wasn't disappointed. I wanted something familiar and for snacking later, so I ordered a cucumber roll. The Super Mario Roll is pretty delicious with its green chile tempura all wrapped up inside. I wasn't sure if I was going to like the smoked salmon flavor with it since I'm so used to rolls coming with raw salmon, but this was great! I also got the 5 piece egg rolls and they're stellar! I ordered from them as my first time through Yelp via Grubhub and it was an overall good experience. The food was made quicker than expected and delivered sooner than the time it had stated in the Yelp app. The driver was kind and my food arrived in one piece. I'm more excited that the egg rolls arrived with a perfect crisp as you usually have about a 50/50 chance of them going soggy by the time they arrive within a delivery. I'd like to try out more items in the future as a they have a fairly extensive menu. And if their delivery on a work lunch can be this good, I imagine an in-house experience is even better! read more

Everything is delicious!! Places is comfortable and clean, the staff is bilingual (English and Spanish), the staff are also very friendly. Definitely recommend The only downside is is that there is no diaper changing station so if you are wanting to bring your baby who is still in their diaper years be aware. They do let you change your baby on the sink where the bathrooms are but there isn't a lot of space (which I had to do) :/ and there isn't a parking area. Street parking only. read more

The further South in Albuquerque, the worse the sushi. Example: Don Sushi, on 3rd Street between Silver and Gold. Located in an unassuming building with high ceilings and an industrial vibe, the food would be great at a mall food court, but left much to be desired. The chicken yakisoba was a letdown. Weird texture, too much cabbage, not enough chicken, too much ground black pepper. The flavor was boring and disappointing. Sriracha partially resurrected this dish but it was dead on arrival. A bit better luck with the sushi itself. The cucumber roll looked peculiar, and seemed a bit light for $4. Tastewise, the rice and seaweed were very enjoyable. The yellowtail sashimi stole the show. Delicious, and I think they slipped me a couple extra slices of fish. Highlight of the meal for sure. No, I probably won't be back. Don Sushi was adequate for a pre-concert snack, but did not impress. From my experience, I'd say stick to the sushi. read more

Tried this place for the first time today. Food was actually really good. My husband and I got the Rio grande roll and fried rice. We also got the teriyaki chicken. The fried rice was garlicky and amazing and the roll was deep fried and great. Now, heres the issue. The server stood exceptionally close to my husband each time she came to check on us. He claimed she kept staring and making him uncomfortable. I'm not sure if she thought that would get her a better tip or what but never experienced that eating out before. I am a bit of a fish snob, and would choose a melt-in-your-mouth piece of hamachi over a roll slathered in sauce any day. If the latter is what you prefer, this place is up your alley. Neighboring Don Sushi, Monk's Corner taproom has been a regular hangout for me over the last year. They pour some incredibly authentic Trappist pints and, if you're game for a bite to eat, the restaurant next door -- Maya -- plates up delightful New Mexican and Baja-based cuisine. If this is how you roll, I recommend the tacos. But if you literally love rolls, the new joint next door, Don Sushi, is your huckleberry. Order up a Tripel, dip a Sumo in soy, the world is your oyster. Don Sushi offers an imaginative adventure on the everyday (lobster and chicken rolls are worthy), with plenty of local love -- the Super Mario is loaded with chile, and El Diablo soothed my fire fix. Good sushi, but a tad cluttered. But why limit your Belgian festivities to sushi? This place also tricks out the menu with some surprises, including Japanese curry, poki bowls and ceviche. I plan on exploring the menu for many months, and hopefully years, to come. This is only the second sushi place I've been to in ABQ and the first one was a disaster, so this one already left us much happier. We ordered a couple apps, sushi, a bento box and a ramen. The portion sizes for the prices were great. The sushi was a little less than favorable, but still good. Huge disappointment. The sushi took forever and the fish tasted pretty old. The tuna and albacore were especially very chewy. The sushi is not cheap either. A lot of the sushi roll concepts here were pretty confusing and did not mesh well together. They try to incorporate Mexican elements in the rolls, very odd. Our visit took place on a Friday, around 3:30pm, and there were no other customers. We were directed to sit where we liked, and moments later were brought menus and our drink orders were taken. We always try the eggrolls anytime we go to a new place with them on the menu. These were small, but tasty (there were 5 to an order.) The outside was very crispy, and they'd clearly been fried up to order. I also ordered a "Super Mario roll" to share and wished I had ordered two, as the fried green chili in it was so tasty, and we both wanted more when it was gone. My husband ordered the regular ramen (it has pork, but there are other options), and I had the tonkatsu chicken bowl with traditional sauce. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals, and were constantly passing forks to try different elements of one another's food. The tonkatsu chicken was so crispy and delightful, and the sauce was very tasty. My only wish would have been for a little more of the sauce, as it was mostly drizzled across the chicken, and left the white rice and steamed veggies underneath bare. (I didn't ask for extra, I just sprinkled a little soy sauce.) The flavors were all really good and all our veggies were fresh and well steamed, including bright green but tender broccoli. Note that the egg in the ramen was hard boiled and not soft, but was reportedly still a nice addition. It was definitely a great meal and overall experience. Great service, sushi, and miso! This place has a wonderful atmosphere, I came with my boyfriend during the week and it wasn't very busy! The miso soup was amazing, they even offer bigger bowls for people like me who love it! The sushi was surprisingly fresh, and the staff was so accommodating. Our food was cold, very little vegetables and chicken. In all honesty, teriyaki chicken bowl has better food. My boyfriend ordered tempura (which was soggy) and teriyaki chicken (without teriyaki sauce). We literally spent 40 dollars on soggy noodles... Poke bowl had a lot of rice in it, too much for my taste but could be good for most people. The eel sushi I got on the other hand was hands down too much rice, roughly twice what I get at any other sushi restaurant.
