I tried this place for the first time yesterday. I was completely disappointed. The service (or lack of) was horrible. The woman who seated us and semi waited on us never spoke to us. We had to flag her down for each thing we ordered. I ordered 2 rolls and the came with no wasabi or ginger. There were no bowls to mix the wasabi and soy sauce. A friend joined our table a little bit late and she waited a long while for anyone to ask for her order. All the staff were on their phones and finally we went to the area where they all were and asked for help. The rolls I ordered were somewhat dry and completely fell apart on the plate without even touching them. Won't be returning. read more

Busy place, even at 5:15 on a Friday. Love the decor! Fun to sit at the bar and watch them make the rolls. My granddaughter totally loved the California Roll and edame. How have I not reviewed this place yet?? The decor is seriously great fun, I have joked that it looks a bit like an anime exploded coupled with a Japanese game show. The place is in a strip mall so doesn't look like much from the outside. It seems to be run by a family where only a small number of them speak English. It's not really that much of an issue but if you want to do something more complicated with your order that may be a bit of a challenge. I've never had an issue. The rolls are quite large and a really good price. They are quite tasty and come with an interesting combination of ingredients. The only issue I've had is that sometimes things are substituted and it's not entirely like the roll was described. So if you have dietary restrictions be warned, thus the drop of one star on my end. But really otherwise it's quite good, the fish is decent, and the price can't be beat. read more

This was my first time visiting this restaurant. It's quite a drive from where I usually go to eat sushi, but I've been hearing about this place for a while. I finally got a chance to try it. The restaurant is located in a mini mall. There's plenty of parking, but this restaurant is a little small. We were greeted by friendly staff and had to wait a bit before we got a chance to sit down. Once we were seated we were given menus and were asked what we wanted for a drink. We got an order of hot saké, which was very good. The restaurant had a lot of different paper lanterns and posters all over the restaurant. There was music playing on the tv and made it seem more hospitable. The menu had a lot of different types of sushi, so we thought one roll wouldn't be enough but it was! We ordered 4 rolls and it was way too much food for us. We ended up taking some of it home. The sushi is heavy on the rice, unlike most sushi rolls at other restaurants. You can get full off one or two rolls. The service was okay, not too many servers for a room full of patrons. It took longer than expected for our food. Drink refills weren't given enough. Overall, this place was okay. But not a place I'd visit a second time. read more

Stepping into Dragon Sushi is like teleporting to China Town, minus the flight ticket. The decor? Pure Asian elegance. The deal? An unbelievable 50% off the entire menu, every day of the year. I mean, how is that even a business model? Service is zippy and as warm as their wasabi, plus a DIY beverage station for when you want to pretend you're your own waiter. Our culinary adventure included the Viking roll, a fusion fantasy with shrimp tempura, bacon, avocado, all crowned with tuna and salmon. Then there was the XO roll - think deep-fried bliss wrapped in soy paper, with eel and avocado taking a dive in spicy mayo and eel sauce. We also sampled the salmon and red snapper nigiri and took a crack at the calamari, which was, well, a tad on the rubbery side. But hey, nothing a tsunami of soy sauce couldn't fix. Despite the calamari's attempt to be an unchewable hero, Dragon Sushi's rolls rolled right back with a vengeance. For the price (did I mention 50% off?), it's the sushi king of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Let me be the first to go into detail about the new and improved Dragon Sushi since they just moved locations. Starting off with the physical location, it is a MUCH better space. The restaurant is more modern now and in a better part of town. The restrooms are way bigger and better than before. The new location has improved ambience and is more enjoyable. They also have outdoor seating with shade which is great. It feels twice as nice as before, and yet their prices stayed the same. As for the food, the rolls are huge. Quality and quantity are unmatched. Specialty rolls are $8 and basic rolls like the California rolls are $4. This is our favorite sushi spot in New Mexico, we drive 40 minutes to go here. Last, when their old location was up for sale for a while, we were worried they would close. But they ended up being able to sell the restaurant to their son, which resulted in its many improvements. This is great because the parents/ previous owners were able to move back to China to retire and pass their legacy down to the next generation. For those who complained about the language barrier, they hired a substantial amount of English speaking servers so you likely won't struggle with that anymore. All the staff were kind and attentive. Our server was a young woman who was friendly and really helpful with the menu. Highly recommend, if you haven't checked out their new location, definitely give it a shot! read more

For the price of their sushi, it's quite good. I've been here multiple times and have generally had a decent time. I can't say the staff knows what sushi they're serving though. My friend ordered a California roll and I ordered a salmon roll. The server came and was adamant that the salmon roll was the California. We knew better, but she argued with us about it. As for ambiance, it used to be better. The first few times I went, the store was playing old Jpop and Kpop videos on the TVs inside the restaurant. It was fun to watch old music videos from the 90s and early 2000s. Now, it's a bunch of AI slop. AI music and AI girls on yachts. It's hard to watch and even harder to listen to. We had high hopes based on reviews and the restaurant was super busy. We are from out of town and we're staying nearby. We ordered to go. We were shocked by the low prices. In hindsight it was because there was very little fish and a lot of filler. In 2 of 4 rolls we ordered there was a mystery cube that was light yellow, spongy, and had a slightly fishy taste. It was unidentifiable to us and kind of off putting. It looks like a cube of cheese but was soft. It wasn't crab stick as that was present as well. It wasn't tofu (or at least not a variation I could identify). It was not in any of the descriptions of the rolls we ordered either ‍ Also, we ordered food for 4 and were given 2 soy sauce packets. Normally I wouldn't care, but we weren't going home where we'd have our own bottle. My sister and I wanted to try Dragon Sushi for a while now. On our second visit we were able to get in! The first attempt was unsuccessful, as I think there was some family emergency of sorts. We had arrived at the same time as another patron and we couldn't get it. The door was locked the open sign was lit and we saw people inside so we hovered around the front door for a few minutes. Other people parked and waited with us until they finally came to the door and told us apologetically that they were closed. All of us walked back to our cars, saddened! Ha! On this day though! We were able to get in! We ordered, perhaps too much for the two of us, buuuuuuut, in our defense, we had never been there, and we saw the 50% off rolls, aaaaaand, we couldn't help ourselves! To our surprise, the rolls were much bigger than we anticipated. Which was honestly not what we expected. We thought it would be the exact opposite, since the rolls were on "sale" as it were. The Red Snapper Salad and Hot Oil Salmon were our starters. Followed by 4 rolls: Geisha Roll, Spider Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll and the XO (deep fried). Along with 1 order of Salmon Nigiri, which they include a small piece of tuna atop it! A lil extra credit if you will! The Hot Oil Salmon was our fav! The Geisha was a bit of a twist for us as it is topped with seared beef. Now that we know how big the portions are, we'll be coming back with friends! I have tried a few different sushi places in Abq and this one has to be my favorite. Don't come here expecting the staff to wait on your hand and foot but expect really great sushi. We got four rolls and an appetizer since most sushi places have small rolls but we were blown away at the portions. We also got two beers and the price was super reasonable for the quality. Quick headline to round it up. Good sushi at great prices. How could I've gone so long without noticing this hidden gem? I recently stumbled across some instagram friends dining here in which they mentioned all their rolls are half off. I'm not sure if this is just a temporary promotion or if it is their business model. I've treated it as if it is a promotion and have frequented repeatedly in the last month. With the half off, rolls start out as low as $4. All the premium rolls are also discounted. On one occasion, our party did 7 rolls for around 35 bucks. You can't beat that. Now as far as quality of the rolls. I will say they around mid. Flavor is up there along with the size. These things are huge! The restaurant itself is pretty cool. Size is a bit small so if you're in around meal rush you may have to wait a bit. They have a lot of cool banners hanging down from the ceilings and bottles of sake lining the perimeter. The only downside is the language barrier of the staff. I don't believe any speak English. If you have ever dined at any restaurant before you should be good. The don't talk much but do a lot of pointing and gesturing to let you know what they are asking for. They will bring you a sushi menu to check off what you want which the waitstaff will pickup up and take once you are done filling it out. They will then bring some waters in paper cups. The food is quick to come out. At the end they will come by and drop off your menu with the price you need to pay All in all, pretty cool hidden gem with really good sushi. Walked to the front door and there was a fairly long line of people waiting - early Saturday evening (hope it's worth the wait) when we get inside - not seated yet. I was reminded of places visited many years ago in Japan. Small, cramped interior not many tables/booths, paper lanterns and other posters, handbills and advertising in Kanji. 20mins later we finally had a seat.It's busy so we don't expect our order to come quickly. But the egg rolls did. They came out without the usual sweet chili sauce. We ordered 3 other rolls, it took awhile but when they arrived they were huge. We usually eat 3-4 rolls, we took 1-1/2 rolls home. The rolls were thick rice bed and stuffed with goodies. Prices were more than reasonable. You may want to put this place on your must try list. After 2 full years, we finally found our sushi place!!! This humble, low key, family business can be easily missed while driving by Eubank and Candelaria. But trust me, as soon as you walk in you will be amazed by the vibrant colors, classic Japanese market ads, familiar Studio Ghibli posters, and vibrant energy. Make sure to make your selection evident in your menu to help the staff fulfill your order. They are attentive and helpful, but they are quite busy. And then, get ready for big, delicious, and glorious portions of sushi, sashimi, nigiri, and everything else. I wasn't thinking when I went in around noon. The line was out the door. We placed our order to go. The word is out on social media about this place. We ordered 2 California rolls, 2 eel avocado, 1 spider and 1 green "chili" (their spelling) tempura roll from their 50% off list. All that for $25.82. We couldn't check the order because it was so busy and it was tied shut tightly. Got home and the green chili roll was missing. I'm bummed but because it's so cheap and there is a language barrier I didn't call them. All of the reviews are correct. This is Americanized sushi. I knew this going in. Is it the best in Abq? Nope. So first off, a couple of warnings. The staff doesn't seem to speak English, although they understand it. The establishment is small and is often full. With that said, the sushi is good! I've never had a problem with their quality. Their prices are very affordable. And their portions are sizable. They're equipped for tables of 4 people or less. I've noticed larger parties are difficult for them. Drinks are mostly self help. If you get their before it gets busy, food doesn't take long. However, once the line is out the door... UGH! I'm from Japan. Definitely not authentic sushi but for the price I'm definitely fine with it lol we ordered 5 different rolls, a pair of Gunkan, and one order of hot sake. It came out to $48. The portion sizes were massive. The service is lacking especially from the older woman, but not enough to bother me that much. It's kind of funny how she told us in Mandarin and gestured us to make room for the rolls. The older man on the other hand, also speaks to patrons in Mandarin but very smiley. What a hidden gem! Unsuspecting exterior, but the inside is so vibrant and such a cool atmosphere. Service was so friendly. The host/server was so sweet and prompt. The rolls were absolutely stunning and tasty! They were rolled to owner, by I believe the owner. He seems to make them for the whole restaurant and to order. We got the Spivey citrus tuna, the Hawaii roll and French kiss roll. They were all amazing. I look forward to visiting again! Only thing I would change, is I wish they had miso soup! This is my third time here, and it was slow last, but this seemed extreme. We waited 40 minutes to be seated. Once seated, people behind us in line were served before we were served. Others waited a very long time. The line was out the door, so my family waited in the car. The family behind us was served and left by the time we were seated and waiting. Overall: Dragon Sushi is not the meet authentic, but it's a must try for the decent priced rolls and decorations. Food: 4 Fried Calamari: The rings were crispy but not oily. Nigiri Sushi: We ordered yellowtail, tuna, and mackerel. Interestingly, each piece came with another piece of tuna on top. Odd but I'm not going to complain about free extra fish, especially with the side of the rice balls. That's my main complaint - the rice balls are so large that it's impossible to eat the nigiri in less than 2-3 bites. Salmon Skin Roll: This roll was stuffed with salmon skin, tamago, crab mix, and cucumber. It was tasty but difficult to eat because it was so big. San Leandro Roll: This roll had shrimp tempura, crab, and cucumber on the inside and tuna, avocado, and eel on the outside. Again, very tasty but impossible to fit into your mouth. Service: 4 The employees appear not to speak much English, so they appear unfriendly or rude because there is little verbal communication. This doesn't bother me, and they have figured out how to overcome the language barrier by using a menu that you can just mark on. They were very attentive and knew to get me a to go box when it looked like we were getting ready to go pay at the counter. I finally had a chance to try Dragon Sushi after seeing that this new establishment open and that it had good reviews. I was surprised to find out that this place was actually located next to one of my favorite ABQ establishment, Fei Cafe! Wow..talk about two awesome places next to each other! Very cool! The menu was pretty simple. Standard sushi/roll stuff and not so many other Japanese dishes. I ordered a cerviche roll and a Godzilla roll. I loved that they had 50% off sushi rolls promo going, effectively making the rolls's going prices from just $4 to $8...possibly..the cheapest/best deal for fancy sushi rolls you could ever get in ABQ~! The rolls tasted good..and the service was nice. However, coming from someone who spent years in Japan and studied about its cultures from high school throughout grad school, I have to say that if you are looking for authentic rolls, this may not be the place (it's a little more like American style rolls..than traditional rolls that you would get in Japan). Also, as an Asian who knows Japanese (and am a bit conversant in Mandarin Chinese), I found mysellf in a bit of cultural dissonance. The decor looked great, fun and looked like a nice hole in a wall. However, if you actually know Japanese (and a bit of Chinese) like I do, I found myself quite confused. The decors that had differen Japanese words actually mentioned Japanese food that wasn't even offered at the restaurant at all (I guess it was for the look/decor...and those words of other Japanese food actually made me more hungry thinking of other Japanese food that wasn't available there!). The music that was playing in the background were actually Chinese songs, not Japanese. And the people who ran the place were Chinese..not Japanese! That said, I liked the food..they tasted good and were not stale..but they were very Americanized...just not super authentic Japanese. The service was nice though (the lady helped me get the drink, get the box and bag to take my leftovers to go, kept talking to me in Chinese..even after I told her in Chinese that I'm Thai and even greeted me in Chinese with a good bye as I left!). Overall, a great place to enjoy your rolls. Just place don't expect authentic Japanese food here though! We missed the mark on researching sushi in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Somehow, Dragon Sushi was on our yelp screen and we gave it a try. It is a small little restaurant with two gentleman behind the counter cranking out sushi rolls. The two waiters, if you can call them that, speak no english and are hopeless with customer service. We asked for low sodium soy sauce and never got a reply. Two small plastic covered cups of wasabi were TOSSED onto our table. We were pointed to a water pitcher across the restaurant if we wanted wanted ice or more water. It took over 45 minutes to make three sushi rolls that contained 70% rice, unbelievable. The place felt dirty but was full of patrons. I don't recall the three sushi rolls we ordered, none were memorable and half the food, we left on the table uneated. The rolls were so large and contained 70% rice that one could not eat a roll in a single bite. There was no flavor! We should of left when we walked in but thought it would be fine. BIG MISTAKE! If no corrections are made here, I can safely say, this is one of the worst restaurants that we've tried in the last 5 years . DON'T GO HERE. read more

I had wanted to try Dragon Sushi for a while, and after visiting today wouldn't go back after the wildly unenthusiastic service. The sushi is a 4 out of 5. There's some interesting ingredients in some of the rolls, which I enjoyed. They've got thin-sliced rind-on lemon, asparagus, green chile , and cooked steak on different rolls. The steak was thin-sliced and tender and worked well on the roll that incorporated it. The rolls were tasty, but much too large to eat a piece in one bite. The service was the worst we've received in recent memory. We never actually heard a single word from either server the entire time we were there. There was no greeting when we entered; a sushi chef waved us over to their seating area, so we grabbed a table. No one brought menus, so I went back to front to grab the paper menu you mark your selections on. We had water delivered in plastic cups, but no one asked what we'd like to drink (since they also have sodas and drinks). When those ran out, we had to ask for them to be refilled. One of the servers was wearing sweats, and neither acknowledged when we asked for something. I had to ask twice for small plates for the both of us. The small dishes for the soy sauce were miniature styrofoam bowls. We had to get up and get our own to-go container, then sat a while waiting for our ticket while the server sat at the next table and ate while watching us. We eventually just went up front and closed; I'm not sure if they usually bring checks or if it's standard to close the ticket up front.
