Very friendly people provide excellent service in an authentic Mexican ambiance. In my opinion, the food is a little plain. Which I like because it is more authentic. I thoroughly enjoy this place and I am certain you will too. Considering the pricing is very reasonable for what you get. I highly recommend this for your choice of Mexican food!

A friend of mine decided we should try this place last night and wow, it deserves more than five stars! We walked in were greeted and seated by our waiter Caesar. He was very friendly and attentive. The decor is authentic to Mexico. They have a large bar and plenty of seating . I wanting to have Mole- a rich, traditional sauce from Mexico, renowned for its deep, multi-layered flavors. It was the best I have tried. My friend had a chicken taco with Mexican rice .The serving were large. The Margarita was very refreshing and not bad for $5 HH. I highly recommend checking this place out.

Easy 5 stars, especially after the last taco joint that was in this same spot. First- family owned and operated- with decades of restaurant experience (Casa Leon in Mayport). Second, the food is amazing, no rumbly tummies later- delicious. Third is service- family owned and operated, we met the sisters on our visit. I love personal connections with local small businesses- yes, please come tell me about your mom making tamales when she comes in or tell me about spending a month in Mexico before starting this new restaurant! Did I mention all the art? The murals are fabulous throughout! John will have to try the sauce bar next time. Highly recommend! I had the Arroz de pollo- cheesy, full of flavor and juicy chicken. John had the chimichonga and cleaned his plate. We will be back- I want tacos! and I want to try some desserts!

I thought this was a grab and go taco spot, but turns out it's a generic mexican restaurant. Service, food & drink were fine, nothing wowed me. The veggie quesadilla was kinda greasy and my husband said his tacos were bland. It is a good spot for a large group of people.

Stopped by to try out the new place. Wow!! All the new tables, chairs, stools, wall art, and amazing smell from the kitchen. This place is going to be amazing. They have lots of options on the menu. From a la cart, to lunch, and entrees. This place has selection for everyone.

We visited after the soft opening and a night before the grand opening. Their vegetarian menu has empanadas which is refreshing change from other Mexican restaurants in town. A lot don't offer veggie empanadas. I ordered a side of Mexican rice. The food was delicious and filling. Sadly, I had to avoid spicy food during my visit so I couldn't make use of the salsa bar.

We had a chance to stop by the newly opened Don taco Leon on Kernan Blvd, these are the original owners of Casa Leon in Mayport. The inside decor is beautiful with handcrafted murals on the wall. We started off with complimentary chips and salsa which included a nice variety of different salsa that you can choose from from their salsa bar. We decided to have some tacos, steak and grilled chicken which were seasoned well, and had a great amount of meat in the tacos. We will definitely be back to try some of our other favorite dishes, the service was great and on point being family owned is always a plus.

This is one helluva burrito! The steak is juicy and it is packed with everything! Had the birria tacos and a chile relleno! All good!

Amazing! Everything was delish! Steak was tender! Chile Relleno perfect! My son loved the birria tacos! Can't wait to come for Happy Hour! This place is fun, inviting and the service was fabulous!

Great service and good Margaritas. The salsa bar is a good perk. There is a decent amount if space. The Mefa burrito is not falsely advertised at a great price point

If you haven't tried Don Taco Leon, you need to! Fantastic service, vibe, and even better food. I had the Birria tacos and they did not disappoint!

When we arrived we checked in for our reservation and even though we got here early, they were able to seat us. Since we were early we were able to order one cocktail on happy hour. I will say, I understand they want to have craft distilleries or alcohol, I wish they would have some of the bigger brands of alcohol. Some of the smaller brands just don't taste the same. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable. I believe his name was John. He let us know that they just launched this menu. We were a little bummed bc we were looking forward to the strip steak with Bernaise sauce. We started with the fig pizza , meatballs, and bread. Word to the wise because they have an open kitchen, if you run hot be sure to dress appropriately. It gets pretty warm in there. The pizza was delicious. I loved the combo of blue cheese and sweet figs. The meatballs were flavorful and the sauce was really good. I liked the bread plate, just wish there were more dipping options. For dinner we all ordered the strip with the truffle fries and the peppercorn sauce. We really enjoyed the steak, but I liked the one with bernaise better. The steaks were all cooked to our liking. They knew it was my sister's birthday, so they brought out their ice cream with olive oil and sea salt. It's different but super delicious. We will back!

Just some information to know it is primarily a bar, they only have about 6 appetizers to order from. The appetizers were good and came out very quickly. The first thing that caught my attention was the amount of times they put food down at our table we did not order after about the 3rd or 4th time of this happening it seemed to be something they do to up the bill in hopes you don't notice. The second thing that thoroughly surprised and bothered me was after ordering another round of drinks, the second the drink was put at our table the waitress came over to check us out. No one had asked for the bill so we were all confused as to why we were being told we needed to close out, especially since we had just ordered more drinks. The waitress tells our party they have another reservation coming and they need our table... We all scramble quickly to leave so there's no issue and once we were outside that's when we realized there was no time limit on our table nor did anyone ask to close out the tab. Thankfully the hula dancers and our own group made the experience great however this place is very clearly a money grab and should not be accepting more reservations than can be handled as it completely ruined the end of our experience.

We were seated up front where performer Kalani Rose set the mood and infused the air with her lovely voice. The tempo was upbeat, the volume was just right, allowing for intimate conversation and lively chatter alike. Great for date nights and group outings. We ordered food including Aloha Sliders, Huli Huli Wings , and Furikake Fries. Food was good, would've loved more of the glaze on the mini burgers tho! The drinks we ordered included Mai Tai (rum based w/ orange ) and Halekulani (bourbon with pineapple orange and lemon) , these were delicious. A bit on pricey side but strong! But, you're paying for the presentation and the atmosphere! If you've ever been to the old tiki lounge off baymeadows from years past, this one is much better! The entire staff is so cool. Like really chill. Hubby and I really enjoyed our visit here! I'll bring the ladies next time!

The space is a good size, with plenty of TVs for watching sports. I can only imagine how packed and lively it must get on a big fall football Saturday. We started our meal with the Fresh Table Golden Guac, ordered "all the way." It included tomatoes, onions, fresh cilantro, jalapeño, sea salt, freshly squeezed lime, and, of course, freshly peeled avocado. This is a simple dish, but it delivers a not-so-simple flavor. The jalapeño adds heat, the onion brings savory depth, and the cilantro and lime give it a bright, fresh finish. Trust me, you do not want to miss this starter. My wife ordered the fish tacos, which came with three white fish tacos on flour tortillas topped with cabbage, pico de gallo, and avocado. They were served with rice and black beans. These were some of the best fish tacos we have ever enjoyed. The pieces of fish were large, perfectly fried, and had just the right amount of breading. My wife also really liked mixing the rice and black beans together. Unfortunately, I ordered the Tacos de Borrego: three slow-simmered lamb tacos with onions and what I believe were parsley sprigs. This dish really missed the mark. The lamb was very dry, which made it seem significantly overcooked. On top of that, two of my tacos had large chunks of bone in them. The dish was served with Arroz Amarillo (yellow rice), refried beans and cheese. Normally, I would have taken at least one star off for a dish like this, but we loved the restaurant and the other two dishes so much that I could not do it. I would go back in a heartbeat.

I'll let the photos from other reviews do the talking, but if you enjoy a good backstory, ask about the history of the space. My mission for the night was simple: end the evening with a great gin cocktail. I started with the Donna Bella from the menu. It was well made, but I thought the bitters were a little too forward for my taste. Next, I asked for an off-menu modification: a Water Lily for Teresa, but made with Roku Gin. It was a strong contender--aromatic, balanced, and beautifully floral. If you're a fan of a French 75, this is a fun cocktail to explore. It's less citrus-forward and leans into a floral profile with a character that's hard to compare to anything else. For the final round, I went with bartender's choice. Mick asked a few questions about my flavor preferences and absolutely nailed it. They crafted a cocktail with Roku gin, snap pea cordial, aloe liqueur, egg white, lemon simple, mint, and citrus that was easily the highlight of the night. Fresh, layered, and memorable, it's a drink that deserves a permanent spot on the menu....Mission accomplished. If you're willing to wander beyond the barbershop business front and you consider yourself a spirit explorer, Volstead is well worth the visit. Go for a round...or two. If you're local, this could easily become your staple spot. For what it is, strong craft cocktail bar option. Bartenders choice is the way to go.

We've been here once before. We really liked it but it's been a while since then. We started with the Pao de Queijo, which is the cheesy bread you usually get at a Brazilian steakhouse. We both love this kind of bread and theirs was fantastic. I ordered the Pinanha Rustica and I am so happy that's what I settled on. I ordered the beef medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. The Chimichurri sauce was good but honestly, the beef didn't need the help. The thing that surprised me the most was how much I loved the Biro-Biro Rice as a side. It was a really unique combo of things I've never had together before. I would probably go back and order an entree of just that if they offer it! My wife ordered the Costela Ao Molha Madeira Com Risotto de Parmesao. She really liked how the risotto was super cheesy. She said it actually reminded her of the cheesy bread. The beef short rib was very tender and juicy. She said it was a simple dish that added up to something special. We rarely order dessert but decided to split the Petit Gateau de Doce de Leite. It was so rich, dense and delicious. The pecan ice cream with it was great as well. It was small but enough for us to split. I'm bummed I forgot to get our servers name because he was fantastic. We really need to not go so long between visits because this visit was just as good as the last one. This review originally appeared in the Jacksonville Fun, Eats & Drinks Facebook group.
