I ordered the beef platter, serving is huge, beef meat was tender but what I am looking for a shawarma is some part of the meat is a bit toasted, this one is not, they serve it with a salad and a fita bread. . yes the pricing is very affordable, but you review places not only with the pricing, the merit mostly shoiuld be the taste and quality of the food. The taste of what I ordered was very average, nothing really special if i will compare it to other similar gigs that sell's thesame dishes...well this place will come last.... I'm not sure why there are so many bad reviews, but I loved this place. I had the chicken plate, it came with, salad hummus,pita, rice. Topped with the most delicious sauces. The portion is super generous and everything tastes Fresh. Honestly was comparing it to Babylon, I think I prefer the plate here better. The service was very fast and efficient. Do yourself a favour and walk an extra half-hour westbound to the Kitsilano neighbourhood past Burrard, even if you're dazed and malnourished, where there are plenty of better quality/value donair dishes. I thought I was desperate enough to eat anything after fasting for over half a day in preparation for a blood test and stumbled here. I went with the falafel plate, where I witnessed the unappetizing sequence of four balls of falafel nuked in a microwave, thrown over cold, rubbery rice, with a spattering of greens and onions that weren't even chopped well enough to separate the layers. You get a small puddle of humus and some spurted sauces to top it off. I was asked if I wanted to some pita, and got an untoasted slice to go along with it. "I get what I paid for a sub-$10 meal" is what I thought going off the signage. Although the Google Map posted photo makes it seem clear the pricing has been blacked out, the marker ink faded enough to fool me into thinking it was still being charged for 8.99. When the register flashed 13.90 after tax, I questioned it against the posted price. The server chuckled that the sign hadn't been changed for some time (years?) and I should have paid closer attention to the inside menu board. You can justify that I was careless for not paying closer attention the in-door menu price. You can even justify that I was an idiot to agreeing to this transaction. But 2022 inflation be damned, you can't justify this disappointment to be worth double-digit dollars. What meagre sustenance my body extracted from this sorry excuse for lunch wasn't even enough to keep my conscious for the rest of my work day. Though I'd like to give the benefit of the doubt that the dishes with actual meat might actually fare better, the quality of laziness for this place doesn't warrant a second chance. read more

A co worker of mine bought the chicken platter and let me have a taste. In terms of portion and flavour, I would have to go there and get my own platter! I think I was talking to the owner who seemed very friendly. I did a takeaway order of the chicken platter and I have been able to portion it into several meals :) I would come back and possibly try the lamb platter or a shawarma wrap. I bought the beef platter for take out. When I opened the container at home, I found a cockroach on top of the food. I threw the meal out. I went back to the restaurant the following week to show the same employee (who originally served me) the photo of the cockroach with the food. Because I did not bring it back on the same night, he refused to replace my meal. I told him he lost a customer because of this. He claimed that he didn't care if he lost one customer out of hundreds of loyal customers. read more

Prices must have gone up because my donair was almost $8 with a runny, flavourless hummus, that seemed more like pure tahini. It was meant to be complimentary, so that included a requisite tip and when eaten with the wrap it seemed fine. The chicken was taken from a heat warmer and not from the spit; I am not sure if it means that it had been there for a while or what the whole deal is. Maybe it means it had time to dry out to make it less greasy? :) It was a large helping and with extra tomato, it seemed like a standard price. I wasn't too sure as they make them pretty fast. They added lots of sauces that didn't look like hummus or yoghurt, but maybe I'm just outta practice with my donair ordering skills. They use pretty thin pitas that do not hold the toppings; you definitely need a fork so I'm glad that I was taking mine to go where I could make a mess in private. Still, it was pretty delicious and definitely more than enough for lunch. I need Cathy to review this to get a complete comparison; but if ignorance is bliss, then I'm going with a four since I had no problem scarfing down the entire wrap. read more

The falafel was tasty at first, but the salt content makes it almost inedible half way through. Also, I don't know why but my wrap was drenched in grease. When I went, there was just one person working the cash register and also the food. So he would handle the money and prepare all the food with his bare hands without washing them in between. Worst falafel plate I ever tasted. Falafel balls were heated in a microwave, were dry, and the texture was was so solid it didn't even taste like actual food (more like dry sand mixed with herbs- nasty!). The Hummus was so runny that it could have been mistaken for soup. But that is not my main issue with this restaurant! When I approached and mentioned the food was not to my liking I was ruddily inquired whether or not I'm vegetarian instead of receiving an apology (which is what I expect to hear in any restaurant that cares for its customers). When I responded that I'm not vegetarian, the server said that's the reason why I didn't like it and that I should have ordered shawarma. I explained that I have eaten falafel my entire life, and this was simply not to my liking because of what is mentioned at the top of this review. The server pushed back (again ruddily), and claimed he serves 100 of these every day. When I explained again that it wasn't to my liking he gave me an angry look and asked if I wanted something else. I hesitated to try something else (for obvious reasons). After a couple moments of pondering if I should, the short-tempered server actually couldn't wait and made the decision for me by pulling out money from his register to throw it my way. He declined serving me more food (thank god!). In disbelief I left the restaurant. All I can say is that I'm thankful that he decided not to serve more food as I would not have been able to eat it. I've also never been treated with such disrespect in my life. It is the worst kind of service you are probably ever going to see, and I wouldn't wish that on anyone. There uses to be a decent donair spot in this place that shut down, fortunately awhile ago this place opened up. It is apparently the third location in this chain. I really like the wraps here, when I'm in the mood for a quick bite I will grab a wrap. It's $5.99, and you get a choice of lamb, beef or chicken with whatever toppings (pretty standard). When I lived downtown I would stop at the Babylon Cafe on Robson, which I really liked and the wraps here are very comparable. They give you a very large serving of meat with each wrap, and as much of whichever toppings that you want. I usually get all of the toppings. My wife says the meat is too salty, but I think it's perfect. They have a number of other dishes that I have not tried. I will continue to visit Donair Spot and hope that they do well (there's no other good donair places in the area). read more

I have been here a few times, however, always forget to review it. Their portions are big and there is a reason why I keep coming back to try their products. The price is very reasonable as well. All of the visits have been consistent in terms of quality and preparation. There is always left over for me at home and good service. Just a heads up that when they're in a rush they seem to not close the container properly. read more

A year later and it's back to being consistently good, in both food and service. I stopped going for about 8 months, until a co worker kept bringing take out back for lunch and making me envious. There's actually a little too much meat for me, but they are happy to go light on the meat and heavy on veggies for me. The platters with rice and hummus are a little pricey at 10.99, but they are huge and last at least 2 meals for me. I loveI don't know why people are complaining about paying $7.99 for a wrap. As much as whatever price it was before, it's par with most other places serving the same. Personally with "pop (a can)" at $2.75 that's one thing I won't readily pickup. I ordered the Hawaiian wrap with chicken indicating its my first visit. Unfortunately the counter person is "English as a second language" so note that you, as I did, might have to repeat yourself quite a bit. I found it comical when he was asking about the fixings if I wanted "everything" as that meant: Lettuce, tomato, onions and cucumber. This was of course after he'd put the lettuce and tomato. Team Tastic came here for a post-workshop lunch and I had a great taste of the following: Chicken Platter ($10.99) Lamb Donair Wrap ($7.49) The Chicken Platter came with Basmatti Rice, Tabooli, Hummus, Pita Bread, Tzatziki, Hot Sauce, and Garlic Sauce. This was a boxed platter with lots to offer. The chicken was pretty juice and the sauce mixed well with the rice and meat. The tabooli was pretty standard fare and was a good excuse for vegetables. The pita bread by itself wasn't that exciting and the hummus could have been a bit more viscous; it was a little runny in its little bowl. I noticed that whether you order to dine there or to go you get takeout boxes for your meal. The only difference was a picnic liner separating the food from the tray. The servings here are similar to Chicago Subs which is nice. The Lamb Donair Wrap comes in an unflattering aluminum wrap even if you are eating in the shop. Instead of lamb sliced from the giant spit you normally see, it uses these little identical strips of ham-looking meat with lamb flavour. In addition, my donair shell was a little weak and started cracking as soon as I picked it up. This is such a tiny complaint though; the main concern was that the lamb strips did not look like lamb meat when compared to how the chicken came out. read more

Fast, decent food for a price that's comparable for the area. I always get the chicken platter so I can't comment on the other offerings. In general the meat is moist, well seasoned and even better with all 3 sauces. Mix it together with the tabouli salad and mediocre hummus and it's a great meal. Come during lunch or afternoon when it's busier, If you come when it's quiet the meat tends to be dry because it's been sitting in the warming pot for so long. read more

Had a chicken shawarma plate. Hummus: watery and flavourless. Chicken: not bad flavour, but had obviously been in a water table for some time. Tabbouleh: primarily chopped parsley. The worker on Feb 3rd 2016 at 630 pm really needs to learn how to manage customers and perhaps take some conflict resolution classes. Swearing at a customer without provocation is really unnecessary and unprofessional. As I arrived a male customer was ahead of me and a lady was being served. The male customer stated to the worker " you know I was waiting first". The lady customer offered to let the male customer be served first without hesitation. Then the male customer stated 'it was not really nice that you (the worker) did not serve me first. The worker responded "You can take your business somewhere else, you can go anywhere you like" The male customer responded by saying "this could lead to bad reviews" Then the worker said 'thats ok. you can leave and go somewhere else, f___ off, as_hole etc. Profanity exchange escalated between the worker and male customer. This escalated with the male customer throwing papers and leaving. The worker ran out the door and yelled at the male customer to come back and fight. The female customer and myself left without wanting service from this worker. A perfect example of how to escalate a situation that could have been resolved with clarification and an apologize.me. That day your company did not lose one customer but three customers and potentially everyone else sitting in the restaurant at the time. read more

I got the chicken platter and it comes with rice, a lot of chicken topped with 3 different sauces, tabouli salad, hummus, and a pita bread. I was satisfied. Not sure if the meat here is HALAL? The guy said only the chicken is HALAL, not the beef or lamb. Halal butchers are all over Vancouver, so I'm not sure why they don't serve halal beef or lamb. read more

He was extremely rude and condescending to me. I've never been treated with such disrespect in my life. I ordered a falafel wrap today, in my opinion it was OK. I found the overall wrap and the falafel in it dry. Even though I asked for lots of sauce I think I was only given about 2 TBSP which doesn't go very far. I couldn't taste the sauces and they absorbed into the falafel very quickly, so I couldn't even see sauce anywhere as I ate. A rather bland experience I'm afraid. read more
