I'm so excited to have this place in town and looking forward to see what they're going to do once they're fully operational! This is the perfect place that Patchogue needed and they'll be serving up late night pizza's once they're up & running which will be great. We came in last weekend after recommendations from friends for their soft opening. Honestly, it was fantastic brick oven pizza. Although they had a limited menu and were taking cash only, there were SO many options for pies, focaccia, and an open face calzone. We tried the Brussel sprout/bacon pie, the chicken caprese, and the cabonara pie. All of these came out quickly and HOT and were de-freaking-licious. We finally ordered here for the first time and it far exceeded all expectations. The restaurant itself is beautiful and clean. They follow all COVID-19 guidelines and we're very professional. I ordered a meatball pizza for the kids and without hesitation, they said it was the best pizza they've ever had. My husband and I had the Buffalo chicken and it was delicious. The best I've had and I have eaten this type in many other places around the island. We also ordered the chopped salad which was perfectly chopped & proportioned. Ordered delivery tonight. As it's delivery I understand when some things are "not up to sit in quality" such as temperature; i normally have my stove already on to reheat if necessary. Tonight: 1. whole pizza (upside down sicilian) was not delivered. 2. Regular slice ordered was so overcooked i could not even reheat it as it would then be black. 3. Eggplant napolean ordered was inedible. The eggplant was hard and could not be cut by a knife. This is a clear case of "eff it, we'll mail it in because it's a delivery order". $100 in food in which only the buffalo chicken roll and fried ravioli was delivered/edible. Supreme fail. I've tried multiple specialty slices (eaten there and to go), and I always feel like the pizza I get has been sitting for a bit or is just not great. I'd like to think that maybe I haven't gone at the right time and just happened to pick the wrong ones that day, or maybe the less popular ones. Donatina has a good variety of pizza options, I just haven't found good pizza here yet compared to other places on LI - in my opinion. I will say, they do have a fridge there with a nice selection of craft ciders and beers, so that's a plus. Visited Donatina's for the first time on New Years Eve and left wondering why it took so long to come by! You can only imagine how busy the restaurant was on NYE, but the staff seemed to be extremely on top of providing outstanding service and excellent food. I was also very impressed with their decision to hire security that night to help regulate the crowd and people entering the establishment. Although busy, the use of security never made the restaurant feel overcrowded. We were a fairly large party and upon arriving, we briefly waited for a table to open up. We were personally welcomed at the bar to drinks by the owner and had the opportunity to order any food from multiple waitresses. We were served drinks promptly and before we knew it, a table was ready for us. At a first glance, the menu was overwhelming (in the best way). EVERYTHING sounded delicious. The friends we were with are also regulars to the restaurant, and reassured both my husband and me that we really couldn't go wrong with any choice from the menu (although everyone had their personal favorites to recommend). They were not kidding! We ended up ordering a whole of bunch items and everyone just kind of shared. We had everything from pizza pies, variety of wings, garlic knots, meatballs, salads, to a baked clam casserole. Everything was fantastic. The home run hit for both my husband and me that served as common thread for the meal was the SAUCE. The sauce was out of this world (to the point my husband purposely left some food to go that would required us to package some sauce to go). In addition to the delicious dinner, I was also able to try a slice of their dessert Nutella pizza. One word...WOW! Their great pizza dough smothered in Nutella and topped with fresh strawberries and cannoli cream was to die for. The service we received once we sat down was also A+. Our main waitress was so patient with our large party and all our requests were always fulfilled promptly and with a smile by the staff. All I can say is wow. We stopped here on a Friday night and the place was packed. We decided to just grab some slices to go. Definitely the best pizza I've had in a very long time. Husband loved the pepperoni slice he had, and it wasn't that paper thin crap that you usually get, it was real deal pepperoni. Grandma slice was out of this world as were the reg slices. The sauce was delicious, not the typical blah tasting sauce you get at most the the pizza places around here. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED On Saturday, February 2nd, my lovely and I enjoyed a marvelous pre-movie lunch at Donatina Neapolitan Pizza Cafe. The short version....think pizza at the level of five star Saverio's of Massapequa. The long version...bear with me and read: The restaurant is located on the corner of Main Street and West Avenue, directly across from the street from the building which houses the court in Patchogue. Its lot has plenty of spaces. You can even park in the court lot which you can use as a springboard for walking into the many fine stores in Patchogue's business district. What did we order? Detroit Pizza....a regional classic that, to my knowledge, is found nowhere else on Long Island. What is Detroit Pizza? Well....it is sort of like Sicilian but a little different. Onto Wikipedia: "Detroit-style pizza is a style of pizza developed in Detroit, Michigan. It is a rectangular pizza that has a thick crisp crust and toppings such as pepperoni and mushrooms. The difference between Detroit-style pizza, Chicago and New York styles is the crust, which is extra thick and very crispy on the bottom. The rectangular-shaped pizza is the result of being baked in a square pan, which is often not a pizza pan; industrial parts trays are often used, which were originally made to hold small parts in factories. The crust of a Detroit-style pizza is occasionally twice-baked and it is usually baked in a well-oiled pan to a chewy medium-well-done state that gives the bottom and edges of the crust a fried or crunchy texture. Some parlors will apply melted butter with a soft brush prior to baking. The resulting pizza has a chewy texture." Simply put, our Detroit Pizza($20 with pepperoni) was spectacular. A very pleasant to the tooth thick exterior crust complemented the airily risen interior. The fresh tasting tomato sauce shined with the glow of fresh garlic.The cheese (a secret blend) was delicious and generously topped with pepperoni. A grand slam. I must add that one notable characteristic of our six slice Detroit Pie was its filling nature. I have a bigger than normal appetite and I struggled to eat two slices. Hence, three people with normal appetites who choose the Detroit Pie will have a very satisfying meal. Moreover, the restaurant was pristine clean and new and our server, Mary, was pleasant and attentive. Located away from the hustle and bustle of Main Street, Donatina is on West Ave, right across from the Carnegie Library and Court house- still a convenient location in the village, but not in a crazy busy location. The interior is really nice. They have a dining area and a wrap around counter where you can see their selection of pizzas as well as the oven where the pizza is cooked. I really enjoyed their variety of speciality slices. I ordered a Sicilian slice and my boyfriend got a bbq chicken slice. We also ordered some garlic knots to split, which were extremely tasty! I've eaten here a few times over the years. It's meh at best.   But my concerns with the place have to do with the other reviews I've read that mention the bad behavior of the owner, John Peragine.   I witnessed troublesome actions by him yesterday as my husband and I were walking back to our car from the Michael Murphy Marathon. He was in his car and yelling at a cop through his open window. When the officer (who was directing traffic) told him to drive his car to the shoulder, he drove his vehicle threateningly up to the policeman and yelled, "Do you know who I am? I'm County Commissioner Tony Guardino." Tony is actually one of his employees. John then sped away through a barricade as he screamed, "Eff Ewe" (except he used the real words that I wouldn't dare put into print here). I guess John assumed no one would know who he was. Beautiful marni forno wood burning oven nestled in the corner behind a nice pizza bar area and marsal oven on the other side of the joint for your basic New York style pies and Detroit style pizza . Went with the Brooklyn pie & the opened face calzone with sausage . Believe it or not they do have mikes hot honey as an added bonus to any of the specialty pies Cooked too perfection . Wow!!! A delicious gluten free Sicilian over here!!!!! I arrived to the restaurant and it was clean and nicely decorated and who i believe was the manager or owner greeted me and went over the ingredients in the gluten free Sicilian and sauce. I have been gluten free for 10 years. I have celiacs so eating anywhere is pretty difficult. The first time my boyfriend and I went to Donatina, John (the owner) mentioned that they would be making their own gluten free pizza when I asked about their gluten free items. I questioned the fact that they would be making their own crust since everywhere orders the same frozen, hard, tasteless crust and dresses it up. Well, tonight was the night. They started making their own gluten free crust and I was speechless. It was thick, airy, moist and beyond delicious. The dough had bounce to it and if the owner didn't bring it out directly to me, I would have questioned if it was gluten free because it was THAT good. They are making Detroit styled pizza with it and I couldn't have been more pleased!
