Even after a full year of repeatedly reporting my pain, discomfort, and a terrible aesthetic result--including a visible bulge in my abdomen--I was consistently dismissed. I was told everything was "fine" and that there was nothing wrong. I was the one who had to push for an ultrasound, which ultimately led to a misdiagnosis and the conclusion that nothing could be done. A year and a half later, my suffering had not stopped, so I sought second opinions from other providers. Both of them immediately recognized the diagnosis. It is, unfortunately, a known and relatively common complication of the type of surgery I had. The fact that my original doctor never acknowledged this possibility was deeply concerning. This experience has caused significant psychological stress, ongoing physical pain, missed work, and additional medical procedures. I have now had to take more time off to undergo corrective surgery, I am left with a permanent scar that would never have existed otherwise, and I have spent thousands of dollars out of pocket to repair the damage with a different doctor. What is most upsetting is that I did go back to the original provider, explained the correct diagnosis, and requested a refund based on what happened. I was told that I had received a "beautiful result," despite the clear physical deformity and the painful complication that had been overlooked for over a year. My concerns were dismissed, minimized, and ultimately ignored. At this point, I have no choice but to warn others about how complications may be handled here if something goes wrong with your procedure. I am also now forced to pursue board complaints and legal action, which is something I never wanted to do. I genuinely tried to resolve this directly. I understand he specializes in hands and wrists but I'm very happy to have had him as my nose surgeon. My son was able to get an appointment with his office within a day after being released from the hospital. He assessed the break and said he could perform surgery (mainly moving the nose back into piace) and then applying a "cast" for a week. He did that and removed the cast today. Although it's still tender, my "nose job" is done and together with nose exercises five times a day hope it stays this way, I'm good to go. No more trips/falls for me. While waiting for the Dr. I sat an observed the way they handled business. When the Dr. came in I thanked him for keeping his staff and patients safe. He told me he never closed his office due to the virus and always have taken measures to protect both staff and patients. He told me he had 3 more degrees outside of the ENT one being Public Health. The office was extremely nice and clean, and Dr. Yao have great bedside manners and is very informative. The Dr. sanitized his hands upon entering the room, he walked in and put gloves on, he was wearing a mask and a shield, asked me to pull back my hair an began to examine my ears. He checks my nose and throat as well. When he was done, the gloves went right in the trash. He said each room is fully wiped down after each patient. I have a follow up appt for a few hearing test. Oh I forgot to mention as you walk in the door there are many chairs however for your protection the seating is 6 feet apart and before you go to your room your temperature will be taken and you must sanitize your hands.
