Delicious "Mom 'n Pop" breakfast place. The wait was about 20 minutes for a table, and now I know why. Likely a local favorite, and popular vacationer's destination. Our breakfasts were generous portions, fresh, hot and delicious! My kids LOVED the hot chocolate (see photo) The only knock I have on the place is the coffee was kind of weak and tasteless. We dinned in last week with a group of 16. The wait is long no matter how many people you have with you, since they don't have a large staff at the moment. We waited for over two hours, and it was a bad day to wait outside with the smoke from the fires, but they made it easier with their bar out in front. The women working the bar is not the friendliest, but she got the sh*t done and got the drinks made (yummy red beers, bloody mary's and mimosas). The kids ran around and played with all the local dogs and the wait seem to zip by. But, while your waiting, look at the menu so you are ready to go once you get inside. We sat down at 2 tables and had the sweetest woman wait on us, who was great, fast and efficient. Again, there was 16 of us and she did a great job. The hollandaise sauce was perfectly executed as well as the poached eggs. The hash browns were tastier than the home fries, so I recommend getting that. My group was publicly dismissed while waiting to be seated because the owner felt that we were "entitled" after checking in once to see how much longer our table will be ready. We checked in after waiting at least 45 mins. I understand it was busy but if you are an owner and an unable to answer a question about your operations professionally then I suggest a different line of business or a class in customer service. Furthermore, while waiting we noticed the owner was not wearing a mask while serving customers during this pandemic. Even though the rest of the staff and customers were wearing masks. In town for spring break i stumbled across Donner Lake Kitchen. my family and i ordered a few different things (Quesadilla Grande + chicken, chicken fajitas, kids french toast, kids pancakes & kids chicken strips) the food didn't have much flavor to begin with but we didn't want to complain. then came the bill $170 which included automatic gratuity & a customer service fee. I've never been charged a customer service fee for sitting down to eat in a restaurant, i also feel like it should be made aware prior to ordering so the choice is mine. Cool rustic cabin like setting just off Donner Lake is a pretty damn good breakfast place. The Donner Lake Kitchen will not disappoint many and food and service were tops. Eggs benedict and huevos ranchero looked to be the specialties of the house so we ordered three plates of the huevos ranchero and two of the Eggs Benedict. Only the Eggs Benedict were eaten completely while a lot was left on the huevos ranchero plates. That was only because the EB were shared! We took the leftover HRs home and ate them for lunch. We only ate breakfast, so we'll have to come back and try lunch when we're up there next time. read more

They're doing a great job accommodating COVID restrictions with cute outdoor picnic tables. The service was great, and the food was fantastic! The flapjacks were enormous, the sausage gravy was to die for and my kids were served delicious hot chocolate piled high with whipped cream and circus animal cookies in cartoon/superhero mugs.
