Egg over medium were perfect, homestyle potatoes were excellent as well. Just a great place to go that is right across the street from Dinner Lake. Make time for this place. Donner Lake Kitchen is an adorable breakfast spot on, you guessed it, Donner Lake. I ate brunch on a weekend and we didn't have to wait for a table. The food quality is excellent, and the mimosas are delicious! As with 99.9999999999999999943% of restaurants in Tahoe, the prices are high b/c they can get away w/ it. Can Tahoe stop with the false Aspenification? The ubiquitous 1970s carpet and wood paneling of the Lake don't warrant such prices...I mean, any area that houses The Pub, Rookies, The Grid, and Pete 'n Peters shouldn't charge so much for breakfast. At last nights Craw Thaw Donner Lake Kitchen was recommended by "new friends". We took the drive today to find the restaurant hopping. Put our names on the waiting list - ordered mimosas and bloody Mary's on the deck while waited. Our wait was not wasted! All of our meals were delicious! The Ray Ray Quesadilla was huge. Love this place. Breakfast is great. They get a star off for drip coffee instead of real coffee like the rest of the world drinks but the food is always exactly what it is supposed to be. The service is really friendly and good. I came from out of town with my family and we wanted to eat at a real down home country type place with great food great service and reasonable prices, and boy did we find JUST THE SPOT. Our waitress Kelley was absolutely WONDERFUL NICE FRIENDLY AND MAD ME US FEEL RITE AT HOME. We stopped in on a Sunday and were told that the wait would be "about 45 minutes to an hour." Unfortunately, it was well over an hour, and probably closer to 2. We pulled in at 10:30 and still didn't have food at 12:30. We probably should have just left after the first 45 minutes, but we were all so stubbornly determined to salvage the experience that we waited. We were very grateful that they seated our largeish group of 9, and they didn't seem troubled by it at all. The tables are cute, too! The menu looks amazing - everything seemed really thoughtfully added and interesting. It was hard to decide what to order, because it all sounded great. It's definitely an ambitious place, where you can tell they put a little flair into the design of the meals. Super endearing. The food tasted good, but half my plate was quite cold. I ended up with a searing hot sausage patty over cold biscuits and gravy. It was cold enough that it was starting to congeal a bit and the texture wasn't very pleasant. Some other friends ordered the cinnamon roll, though, and had only rave reviews for it. We also had some go for the hot chocolate, and they enjoyed the animal crackers included with it. I thought my food was okay, but not especially amazing, and definitely not worth the wait. Verdict: Only go here if it's empty and you're craving a local diner experience. It's probably lovely for locals and during off-seasons, but gets PACKED fast and seems like the staff might have a rough time keeping up (understandably) so the quality gets a little wonky. Personally, we probably won't return too soon, but we don't regret stopping in either. If I could do it again, I would have just gotten a breakfast sandwich from the little market in front of the diner. Came here for the first time and waited about an hour to be seated which we were fine with. But we specifically asked for outdoor seating and the hostess wrote it down next to our name. Then when our name was finally called, we were seated inside and take out wasn't allowed since they were so busy which I understand due to the pandemic. We decided to eat breakfast here on Father's day morning, which was probably our first mistake. This is a super quaint and small place so it makes sense that it fills up quickly. We got there at 8am, and finally got a table at 9:30, then it took another 10 minutes to get waited on and 45 minutes for our food. They only had two waitresses working, which I thought was odd considering it was a holiday. My dad and I got the eggs Benedict and the egg was over cooked. This is my boyfriends favorite place to go after work (being a graveyard shift guy) and finally brought me. The blackberry mimosa was awesome and the staff was all super friendly. Potatoes mixed with all sorts of veggies and topped with avocado and cheese, I just asked for no cheese and more avo instead! It came out LOOKING great, but this is where my sad reason for only 3 stars comes in.. If your cooks don't know how to cook vegetables, don't offer them! Literally cooking vegetables is so simple and easier than poaching an egg or making a snowman pancake.. I actually had to ask the waitress for a STEAK KNIFE to cut the massive pieces of painfully raw broccoli on my plate. I only ate a few bites, and took the rest home to cook more. Average food but inefficient, unfriendly and extra-slow service. This place was our biggest regret of the trip. We came on a Friday. The place was packed for some reason at around 10:30 am. We were told we could get a seat at the counter in 20 minutes. After 30 minutes, we were told that our seat would be ready as soon as some couple paid. After 45 minutes, we were told that the counter was full, but a table had opened up. We sat down, and got our drinks fairly quickly. The coffee is terrible, if you're someone who appreciates Peets or even Starbucks. Weak as hell. We waited nearly another 45 minutes before our surly waitress plopped the food in front of us without a word. Pancakes were big but just average in taste, with extra cheap imitation maple syrup and fake butter. Half of the bacon was overcooked and shouldn't have been served. Eggs were pristine. Prices were above average. Before we knew, two full hours of our day were gone. If this is where the locals eat, I'd rather eat with the tourists. read more

Love having breakfast during the week when the tourists are gone and there isn't a one hour wait. This morning the Huevos Rancherous were outstanding. The dish was americanized with sliced avocado, sour cream, and black olives added but the flavors of the beans, sauce and chorizo were outstanding. The crab Eggs Benedict were cooked perfectly and the hollandaise sauce was perfect. The side potatoes were okay but too many of them in the plate. Sizes of food served are extraordinary and abut over the top. All in all it's my favorite breakfast place at the lake. read more
