This is buy far my Wife and I's favorite steakhouse in Tampa. Food: I ordered the reserved cut bone in ribeye. They cook the steak perfectly to my liking and it was full of flavor. the sides come are big portions enough for two people to share. As our appetizer we ordered the charcuterie board, they ran out of crackers and gave us bread instead, I have to say I wasn't to impressed with the charcuterie board. My husband and I had dinner here to celebrate his birthday. I made a reservation on OpenTable with ease. We arrived exactly at reservation time and there was no issue being seated right away. Our waitress was friendly and professional. She acknowledged that we were there to celebrate a birthday and wished my husband happy birthday. Appetizer: Lobster escargot (good flavor, but a bit overcooked and on the edge of being too salty). Drinks: Seasonal old-fashioned with the smoked presentation and a Cadillac margarita. The smoked presentation was underwhelming. For $1 more, the drink is smoked and the wood coaster is left on the glass. We expected a bit more "presentation" as we've been to other establishments where smoked drinks either do not have an additional charge or if there is, the "presentation" is more than just the wood coaster sitting on top of the drink. We have a smoking kit at home, so not sure I can subscribe to it costing them $1 to smoke a drink. Entrées: Wagyu with mushroom risotto and Salmon with asparagus. All of the food was good; however, I could have use a little less char on the asparagus (personal preference). The complimentary birthday dessert was quite cool. We had a reservation and we were seated immediately upon arrival. I had a Split Personality cocktail. It is fruity, but smooth! My husband just had a water. As a starter, we had the Cheesy Corn Fritters. They weren't bad, but I would not order them again. They weren't very "cheesy". They were out of all of their Reserve Cuts of meat the night we went, which was a shame because my husband had planned on getting the 10 oz filet. My husband ended up getting the 6 oz filet. It was cooked perfectly. He added the Cognac Peppercorn enhancement and the Sautéed Baby Bellas add-on. The steak and add-ons were delicious. For sides, he had the Charred Brussels and the Truffle Mac & Cheese. The Truffle Mac & Cheese is life changing. It is so creamy, cheesy, and flavorful! The Brussels on the other hand were not bad, but I would not order them again. They had a decent char, but the flavor was pretty bland. I had the Butternut Squash Ravioli. Heather was a phenomenal waitress! Atmosphere was amazing when we walked in. Two guys playing music one on the guitar one on the flute, it was awesome! Had a few drinks at happy hour very well priced. Then onto our 630 reservation. We had the honor of being served by Miss Heather in the dining room. She was cheerful very, very kind very very patient and we took her recommendations on many things for dinner. We started with a glass of wine and the Char grilled oysters with crostini bread. Then Heather recommended the French onion soup, which we obviously ordered, and it was phenomenal! We then went onto our main course. I had the New York strip with garlic, mashed potatoes and a side of chimichurri sauce! It was all fantastic! And for dessert, we had the seasonal banana chocolate marble cake was also delicious! My visit to Donovan's was my first and it was simply wonderful. We were greeted and seated quickly and then the most amazing server came to our table (am beating myself up for not remembering his name - young Caucasian male, beautiful hair, with an incredible personality). I have never felt so mesmerized by a server ever!!! It's obvious he belongs in the restaurant business. He helped me select a perfect dinner wine and helped select the perfect steak! We were both enamored by his aura. To end the night, the owner came by, we had a winder conversation. I recommended she try my favorite red wine blend by Cooper & Thief. I really hate to do this because I use to love Donovan's. The charcuterie board was 4 of the same pepperonis just cut into different shapes, the cheeses I'm pretty sure were whatever was bogo at Publix. The mashed potato's had an extremely weird taste and texture. We recently tried the cheese burger, it's a steak house making a nice cheese burger is easy. But it wasn't that great and it was served with a sauce on the side that tasted like Worcestershire thickened up. The wedge salad had a cold piece of bacon on it that was tough to bite through. Another great dinner at Donovan's! This is my to go space, as I can typically have last minute reservations. We got a table for six with a few days notice. They recently changed the entrance, table layout and menu! We got a variety of dishes and nothing disappointed. We got some steaks, chicken parm, duck. Everything was delicious. I was splitting a two meals and they separated them at the back, which was amazing. Lastly, love the atmosphere. I'm so delighted they brought back the Chargrilled Oysters. They were delicious. The Wedge Salad was very good. We miss their Beet Salad, but the Wedge Salad was a great alternative. They have really tasty cocktails if that's your thing. We tried the Cadillac Margarita, Buccaneer Mule, and the Big Guava. They were tasty and refreshing. Our entrees were very tasty as well. We had the Duck Confit and the Vodka Chicken Parmesan. The Duck was cook perfectly and the Chicken was delicious. And we finished off with a dessert, Cream Brûlée! It was perfect! Strike three. Won't go back which is a shame since i live so close. Charlie's steakhouse prices with beef O'Brady's service. Seated as a solo at the bar, enjoying the game. I started with an old-fashioned- good drink, but under poured. Ordered the Delmonico and baked potato and waited with an empty drink for 10 minutes before food came out and was finally able to order a glass of wine and refill my water . The water came and i was just waiting on the wine to compliment the steak.... I looked to the right and noticed that the bar had zero wine glasses, not sure how you run out of those on a Friday night . The restaurant was not that busy. I continued to eat the steak which was flavorful but contained way too much salt. This prompted me to finish another glass of water. Steak half gone, still waiting on the wine. So I sat there empty drink,half steak, completely parched. Finally get the attention of the bartender, who refilled my water. When asked about the wine she said oops she was waiting for a clean glass. By this time i had ate 3/4 of the steak so said to not bother. Ended up finishing the steak and another cup of water (these cups are slim and small). Waited for the check had to flag down bartender who didn't say much at this point. As i was waiting for check another employee came around to clear the dishes, ended up spilling steak juice and baked potato on me and my belongings. Step it up Donovan's. The garlic herb butter is excellent and the cognac was good but the butter is preferred. Everyone agreed their steaks were a perfect choice. Sides were onion rings for $10, truffle Mac n cheese for $14 and salt crusted jumbo potato for $10. If you like truffle taste, the Mac n cheese is a good selection. Two sides is enough for four people. For wine, a Cabernet called juggernaut $12/glass and Pinot lyric 9 oz for $14 For dessert, we shared the carrot cake. Donovan's is a cute corner restaurant in the Winthrop Village shops. When you go in, you get hit by the awesome smell of smoked wood. The servers are very attentive and knowledgeable on their menu. so I am really sorry to have to give this review but we have lived here for one year and Donovan's was the place go. A quick walk for a good meal and a drink at the bar. However, since the new owner has taken over the food menu is consistently declining. they got rid of some of the best stuff on the menu, the lobster escargot and replaced it with bland tasting anything. they got rid of the pizza oven with the flat pizza which was awesome. they did add some new wines to the list which is a plus for me however the food menu just is really not what it's cut out with to be for the price. If you're visiting Tampa and looking for a great place to eat, then look no further - you need to try Donovan's! We arrived for our 5pm reservation and were immediately greeted by a friendly hostess who seated us promptly. The menu has a lot of choices for appetizers, side dishes as well as the main entrees. For appetizers, we ordered their Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail and a bowl of French Onion Soup. For sides, I got their Lobster Mac & Cheese and Flame Roasted Asparagus. For the main entree we decided to share their Tomahawk Bone-In Ribeye. To drink, I had their Cigar City Ale on tap. The appetizers came out quickly and I apologize for not taking a photo of 3 of the largest shrimp to ever adorn the side of a serving dish. They were very good and the red cocktail sauce was perfect with a nice bite to it. The French Onion Soup was nothing short of cheesy, oniony deliciousness! Perfecto! The Tomahawk is aptly named for the size of serving. It's a 38 ounce, certified angus beef, bone in ribeye. It reminded me of how prehistoric cave dwellers must have eaten, ha! Huge - the biggest steak I've ever had...Hence why we shared it (and still got a box to go). It was cooked perfectly, medium, and the taste was outstanding. My Lobster Mac'n Cheese was amazing and the asparagus was excellent! Our server was polite, courteous, friendly, and very attentive. She came by on numerous occasions checking on us and making sure everything was to our liking. Everyone we came in contact with was nice and friendly. The decor is a cool old building with high ceilings and white brick surrounding the walls. There's a rectangular bar in the middle and ample table seating throughout. Oh sweet Donovan's. I went here for an early dinner with my sweetie pie and we sat at the bar (which is actually my favorite place to sit even though it's a side by side vibe). We stumbled upon their happy hour. Their drinks are basically half off which is a steal because the drinks are INSANE. We also did some oysters for an app as well. My boyfriend loved them. I'm not touching any oyster with a 10 foot pole, so we will trust him ladies. For dinner, we split a NY strip, got the balsamic veggies and a baked potato for a side. My trip to Donovan's Meatery was absolutely divine! Located in the beautiful Winthrop town center, the ambiance this establishment gives off is nothing short of fitting for the area. Upscale and serving delicious, modern dishes. While I did find the prices to be on the higher end, it is to be expected of the area and everything I had was incredible. I was fortunate enough to make it right before Happy Hour ended and at $8 per cocktail, you cannot find a better deal for this type of quality. The Compound Butter Board was large enough to share a made a decent appetizer, although I wish there was more than bread as an accompaniment and the butter melted almost too slow to enjoy before dinner came out. The must get dish to share had to be the oysters! Charbroiled to perfection and loaded with cheese, made this a knockout choice and will bring me back! The steak sandwich was nice and cheesy. For dessert I had the crème brûlée. The berry compote and whipped topping complemented the dish very well and of course it had a satisfying shell at the top. My only complaint would be the lack of vanilla bean speckles you would typically find in a crème brûlée, especially one from a higher restaurant like this. The vanilla flavor was still prevalent, but no sign of real vanilla bean made me feel like a few corners were cut. I would still highly recommend this dessert but if you're a bit of a vanilla snob like myself, you will notice. We were a large group of 15 with Chelsea as our server. She was very polite and patient throughout service. We enjoyed her but what we did not enjoy was the number of food items that they did not have. Upon sitting down, Chelsea made us aware that they were out of pork chop, lamb, duck, lobster tails, and about 4 different cuts of steak...whew, I definitely regret choosing this restaurant tonight. Next time I will think to call PRIOR to arrival and ask what they did not receive this week. For an appetizer I had 6 charbroiled oysters, which were really good. For dinner I had the Cast Iron Chopped Steak, which should be renamed a naked burger as it was really just a hamburger patty. I was beyond pissed when my food arrived to the table. Luckily I ordered a side of chimichurri, which partially saved the meal. I substituted the baby Bella's it came with for asparagus, which was only 2 spears. I was so underwhelmed with my food considering how amazing my experience was when I came last June. I understand the supply shortage but there are several grocery stores within a few miles and you (or the owners) can just go purchase the items when you run out...just my personal thoughts as I was really banking on the lamb or duck. Unfortunately on this particular night, they were extremely short staffed and working a large party in a closed off section. Service was slow, but it was understandable. The food was delicious and I wish I had more of an appetite for a steak, but I ate cuban food earlier in the day. The duck confit flatbread was delicious, but I do wish I asked for it without the habanero on top. It was a little too spicy for me. When they first served the potatoes au gratin, it was extremely burnt. We asked for another one and they served it right away. Our server was working the floor, the bar, washing dishes, doing it all.
