We went there for the first time last Wednesday and had a marvelous meal for four. There was not a bad dish among us. (I am missing the items we ordered, so I'll have to come back here and add them later, but all that matters is four people had completely different entrées, and we were all very pleased.) How pleased were we? So pleased that, a mere 7 days later, we're about to drive 1.25 hours to have another meal there, this time with our extended family of 14. The host greeted this warmly and had us promptly seated. Our server, Danielle, was magnificent! She attended to us very well providing excellent recommendations. We've been going to this establishment for years, loved the food when it was Shrimp Boat, but lots has changed since going Italian. It's not really Italian, could offer more dishes that is considered Mediterranean, pasta specials of the day could be a consideration, something different that other local Italian restaurants don't offer, otherwise, they are just like the others. We had the chicken parmesan with spaghetti, terrible. It's a large piece of chicken, should have been pounded thinner, too thick, loaded with too much sauce on breaded chicken, which makes it soft because of too much sauce, then loaded with cheese that wasn't put under the broiler, just soft and mushy. Side spaghetti was over cooked and loaded again with too much sauce, the entire dish was drowning in sauce which is just okay. Our friends ordered spaghetti & meatballs, the meatballs was garlicky and the dish loaded with too much sauce on overcooked spaghetti. Several of their dishes are made with same stuffing from stuffed mushrooms, stuffed flounder, stuffed shrimp making it easy for the kitchen but a boring menu being the food all tasting the same. Service is great and attentive even with change of staff since the restaurant changed. My suggestion is, please stop overloading sauce, don't drown the spaghetti and cut back on garlic in meatballs, don't overcook the pasta, and offer a pasta of the week, supposably they make their own, let's see something that can't be bought from a store. The owner needs to pay attention to their change of business, if you are presenting it to be Italian, then offer dishes that can be found as other restaurants, you've just become a cliche, why bother! We wish only the best for this establishment, being family owned, you've worked hard to still be around after so many years, don't let us down now. read more

Tonight, my husband and I wanted to end the week on a positive note. We decided to give Prima a try.For the appetizer, we ordered the cheese fondue. One of the main ingredients in this cheesy skillet of goodness is pepperoni. My husband asked that the chef leave that ingredient out of the recipe due to my recipe allergy reaction. The waiter did a commendable job communicating to the kitchen about my dietary needs. Unfortunately, our dip came off with pepperoni and I nearly devoured it down. The waiter was super apologetic and wrapped it a carry home container and reordered a new one. We were so full from the soft, tasty bread, that we didn't touch the appetizer. For dinner, I ordered the most divine homemade pasta and beef rib dish. Whoever was back there cooking the dish, you have amazing taste, talent, and skill. My husband ordered the stuffed shrimp and beef fat potatoes. The shrimp were jumbo and filled with a hearty breading that was packed with flavor. The potatoes were rich in flavor and had a buttery texture. He would definitely order this dish again! Our server went out of his way to refill our drinks and attend to everything we were requesting. As a bonus, he ordered two pistachio and chocolate chips on his tab for the dilemma we encountered with the appetizer. I thought that it was a genuine gesture. You don't see that happening much anymore. When our cannolis arrived, I was pumped trying one of my favorite desserts Due to full bellies, we brought the dessert home. When I tried the cannolis at home I unpleasantly surprised at the taste. The cannoli cream was virtually absent of flavor, smoothness, and mascarpone. A Hidden Gem with a Killer Happy Hour! I came here for the Italian food, but I'll be coming back for the cocktails and chicken wings! Seriously, don't skip the wings--they are a showstopper. Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and topped with a dry rub seasoning that's just chef's kiss. The cocktail menu is equally impressive; perfectly balanced and refreshing. Prima recently transitioned from a seafood concept into an Italian restaurant, and I was curious to try it. One of the bussers shared that seafood can be a bit niche and business had slowed down, so they decided to expand their clientele by shifting to Italian cuisine. The chef and owners are still the same, which I think is great ~ it keeps some consistency and heart behind the food. I ordered the wild salmon, which had pieces of bacon and served in a delicious creamy sauce, topped with goat cheese and fresh herbs. The portion was very generous for the price, and it came with chunky mashed potatoes on the side (those were just okay). My friend ordered the scampi pasta and really enjoyed it. We also had cappuccinos, and I was pleasantly surprised ~ they were actually very good. A lot of restaurants don't get cappuccino right, so that was a nice touch. The service was good overall. Our server, Bailey, did a nice job, though it felt a little rushed at times ~ possibly because she's new. We went on a Wednesday and it wasn't busy, so the atmosphere felt relaxed and comfortable. First time at Prima since the turnover from Shrimp Boat. Went for a Penelope Bourbon Tasting. The service was amazing the experience was beyond expectations. Food was awesome, small plates included with the Bourbon tasting experience along with an appetizer. Can't wait to return for a dinner as the menu looked appetizing and was reasonably priced. Must stress how good the service was, there were at least 50 people taking part of this Bourbon tasting and the service remained impeccable. read more

We came here to celebrate my moms birthday and the energy was welcoming and beautiful to look at. They sat us in the more private air conditioned "outdoor" area. Most of us ordered the Alfredo fusili pasta with chicken. The Sicilian sunset was delicious and the orangecello was strong. Our server was kind and provided great service as well. Shrimp Boat was my favorite restaurant. This is my second time trying the Italian restaurant they turned into despite not wanting to support the change. First time I got chicken limone-was whatever nothing too bad or good to note other than server was nice. This time I am significantly disappointed in the chicken parm :( it wasn't flavorful at all and the leftovers turned to mush bc too much sauce. You think an Italian restaurant could nail that simple dish but I guess not. On a much much higher note: the fried white sweet potato side that came with the fish was super amazing though-definitely the best bite I've had in a while. There was also a scallion pesto pasta that was super interesting tasting so that's a fun different bold flavor. Actually I was bummed there was no soup choice so I had a Caesar Salad instead. The Filet Mignon was flavorful and tender and the honey walnut green beans were the best green beans I've ever had! I tried the Chocolate Mousse ice cream without the Expresso and it was good. I ordered a Chicken Limone to go and I really enjoyed it! Nikki was very attentive! I have been here many times, bragged on them as matching Berns for their beef quality and even treated friends to dinner here. I was so disappointed tonight. My waiter forgot the standard bread basket. Finally the second server I asked brought it for him . The châteaubriand.was more sirloin in texture and most of the potato cubes didn't make it to the blender for whipping. I saw the waiter when he took my order and not again until I was done with the meal. I was going to get a desert to bring home but now my trust is badly damaged, so I skipped it. read more

The food and the service are still excellent even though they changed the menu from primarily seafood entrees to Italian cuisine. However, they have kept some of the more popular seafood dishes. We also had the cheese sticks as an appetizer and they were absolutely fantastic. Filet was tender and delicious but very small. Description said it was 8 ounces, but didn't seem to me. My complaint was the bottle of wine we purchased. The wine was good however I feel like they are a little bit price gouging on it. They charged $44 and you can buy this wine at retail level for around $13. Normally restaurants usually only double the wine price. read more

My Mom liked hers but mine tasted off (even she thought so). They were good about it & fixed it somehow but it came back tasting much better. My parents both ordered from the 3 course menu & I went with the salmon a la Meunière. It was delicious & I had enough for lunch the next day. The bread was very tasty too. We sat next to a couple that had been coming to the restaurant for decades & told us all about their history and how they come from Plant City to eat there. They were great company. The only downside was how rushed the waiter seemed. At times he seemed to leave the table before you had even finished ordering. I think it was because it was the end of the night. We were told it was way busier than normal on a Tuesday, however the restaurant didn't seem very booked. The bisque was really gross, and after not eating it, the waiter didn't even ask if there was anything wrong with it. The specialty margarita was pretty gross as well, made with cheap tequila. The bread smelled better than it tasted, but probably the best part of the meal. The salmon with Brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes was overly fishy, potatoes were flavorless and lumpy, and the Brussel sprouts tasted mayonnaisey. Probably won't be back, this just didn't hit the mark in any capacity. read more

This chef does not know the first thing about Italian food. If you go there, stick to the fish, do not do Italian. The sauce is disgusting. The bread is awful. Not even worth the bite to try it. The eggplant parm was 2 thick slices of eggplant so tough I could barely cut it, never mind chew it. The side of pasta was mushy and covered in gross sauce. I could not even eat it. The snapper oregano was just ok served its these Japanese white sweet potatoes which were unrecognizable as food. The only thing good was the bruschetta. Not worth going back. read more

Went for dinner and saw the name had changed from shrimp boat to Prima. We wpuld go 2-3 times a week for happy hour. That's gone, no more happy hour. The bread used to be amazing, horrible now the drink menu is totally different and it is an older crowd in the restaurant and they were playing Eminem and Bon Jovi loud felt like teenagers were running the place. I will not be back. They said the recipes are the same on the drinks and the food. It's totally different. This restaurant is truly a gem, and one of my favorite places to dine. I absolutely love it! Their house bread is dangerously addictive--it's so delicious! Here are some of my favorite dishes: Coconut Shrimp: My absolute favorite! The shrimp are huge, and the pineapple dipping sauce is so good I wish I could take a bottle home. Caesar Salad: Fresh and generously sized. Blackened Salmon with Au Gratin Potatoes: Packed with flavor and perfectly cooked. Stuffed Shrimp with Cheesy Grits: A must-try! The service here is consistently great. Even when it's busy, I've never had to wait too long. The space is nice and roomy, making it a comfortable dining experience. We have been here 4 times since finding out about it. First 2 times, everything was great! Food, service, atmosphere. Last 2 not so much. 3rd time I had the pork chop, it came out undercooked, sent it back, came out overcooked. Wife had the grilled shrimp. She said it was better the first 2 times. Last night we brought friends who had never been. Guys chicken parm was very good, spaghetti was undercooked. Friends wife had salmon with a bacon jam. Didn't agree with her in the morning. My wife had a French style salmon with spinach. Both not very good. The place had no butter we were told. Creamer for the coffee curdled. The peanut butter dessert was underwhelming.
