Wow! I have been here on and off throughout the years. The food in the past two months has been the best that it has ever been! I know someone that has been dining there for the past 30 years or so and she felt the same way. I heard that they have a new chef and everything is so fresh and delicious. My go to is always the fish and chips. I had tried the chicken pot pie (not usually something I would order) and I was INCREDIBLY happy that I did. It was so delicious!!! It was such a great item on the menu to share (I'm not takin' appetizers. Sharing a dish like this is a little more intimate). Our waitress and the busboy were both incredibly friendly, professional, down to earth, and hospitable. Want REAL CHIPS? come here. Very well done. Crispy and not too greasy. Just right! They play live music on specific nights of the week. I was told by regulars that were dining next to our table that it's a great time. Best burger I've ever had, very consistent and it's even better than the Peter Luger burger, in my opinion. Also, the $18 fries (yup, for only fries) at PL were very salty. The classic burger is super delicious. It is by far the best burger that I ever had. The fries were like baked potato and didn't mess with my acid reflux. Since it is a bar they had a lot of good drinks even thought I could only eat at the time. The waitress was really nice and she knew we automatically were there because it was a break between my brothers funeral. Donovan's is a great Irish pub in Woodside, Queens. My family has been going here for as long as I can remember (& FUN FACT - I actually celebrated my 1st Holy Communion here!) It is very traditional and the interior is super cozy with hardwood flooring, fireplaces throughout, mahogany bar, etc. It is a spacious restaurant that has a full bar area, and multiple rooms for diners and a good place to hold private events like birthdays and showers! They are famous for their hamburger and the perfect Guinness pour, which is why I think my dad started going here in the first place, many years ago. I love their wings, which I think they run a special for on Wednesday's. They are always made crispy and come out piping hot. Overall, Donovan's has become an institution in Woodside. After many years in business, they continue to offer great service with food and drinks at a very affordable price. Looking forward to my next trip there! read more

This place is great! I mean...it's hard to beat AYCD brunch with an AYCE buffet for $20! To be honest, this is the only thing I've tried here but it's great! I noticed they have other good deals on different nights of the week. It's a little out of the way, so I don't come here much, but def want to check out wing night and trivia night. Donovan's has been around since 1966 and the nostalgia is amazing. I think I remember reading that the original owner decided to put the business up for sale since the neighborhood was changing but a bartender that worked there close to 30 years decided to buy the place to make sure they didn't close. The restaurant is actually a really big restaurant, there is the bar area, the back dining area then there are two side rooms that have tables as well, I think the two side rooms would be great for a small party. I have to admit, after visiting with my friend Mike S, holy shit was this place amazing! The look and feel cannot be replicated, it feels like an old school Irish institution. I loved everything about this place from the service, to the food, to the feel of the restaurant. The food: Fire House Wings- These were nice, good, meaty wings. The wings were cooked well and had a nice heat, it is more on the spicy side so expect some runny noises. The raw onion were nice and crispy without have too much of that harsh raw onion flavor, I really liked the raw onion with their really juicy patty. The bacon was nice and crispy, I would recommend the bacon. The onion rings were OK, they were on the chewy/doughy side, but the fries were steak fries and they were solid. Tried, true, and possibly the best burger in Queens. But certainly don't forget the Classics like shepherd's pie, chicken pot pie and some amazing homemade fries (regular, sweet potato, and even onion rings). IMHO their only weak point is the draft beers. They have quite a few choices, but I'm getting sick of just Founder's and Montauk being the only 2 IPAs they have, because they're they're both so mediocre. Their burgers always come out cooked to perfection, and tasting great. If you're going to order bacon on your burger, I recommend you ask for the bacon well done. A simple bar with a truly delicious burger. I came here because Donovan's burger is on every "best burger in NY" list and it's a shame I put off eating here because the hype is real! At the end of the day, the burger is the main draw and you get your money's worth; the meat is tender and juicy and the burger doesn't fall apart with each bite. I kept it simple by going with a cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles and enjoyed every bite. The basics are executed perfectly, but I will definitely be back to try the many different options on offer. The bar is nondescript and I've passed by it many times because it is so unassuming, but do yourself a favor stop on in! Good problem to have. I would not call The Donovan's Burger the number 1 burger in NYC as in years past, but it still is a very good burger. The pub is very traditional, old school. If your solo, plenty of TVs to keep you entertain. Taking the wife out, comfortable for a date place. Dining room in the back with a fireplace. Very nice. Cozy Irish Pub. This is the main location; there's another one in Bayside. Nice, simple bar, separate large dining room. Interior decor is rustic, simple, and has a homey and cozy feeling. They have a decent variety of beers and ales, as well as, your typical array of heavy liquors. I stopped in one evening with a friend and we each had a pint of Smithwicks. I'm not a big beer/ale drinker, but this particular style had good flavor, and is very drinkable. For food, my friend had an order of wings and we each had a different burger. I forgot what he ate, but I had the burger, The Sebastian, which had aged Swiss and mushrooms, cooked medium. I wasn't impressed. Burger was very dry and overall flavorless. That burger was definitely NOT medium.. LOLL Despite the failed burger, I think I will be back to try some of their other beers/ales on tap. read more

Donovan's offer's a solid burger for a decent price. Their legendary burger with toppings ranges from 15-17 dollars and comes with steak fries. The steak fries are fresh out of the fryer and crispy. The burger was juicy, had a good sear, had fresh meat.... Simply a good solid burger. It was just hard to say they are the best burger in NYC after eating something amazing like American Cut's burger. We got to sit in the dining area. Don't let the dim lighting in the front fool you, Donovan's has a large space for parties in the back and side. Next to the bar, they were catering a graduation party. And behind our dining room, the pub was catering a reunion party. The owners and staff were amazingly attentive and friendly. They came out several times to check our mood, our take on their burger, to ask to refill our waters and to refill them. I suspect this was because my friend chatted up the host and told him we were part of Burger Club. (Shhhh! Don't tell them that! We don't want the staff to change the experience for us!) read more

Donovan's is a classic pub/restaurant in Woodside. The burgers are delicious! I am also a huge fan of the fish and chips and Shepard's pie. The food is always fresh and cooked to your liking. Prices are affordable. Been going to Donovan's for years. I never have any problem with the service and the place is packed on the weekends which is always a good sign. Good selection of tap beers. Came by around 9p on a Saturday night with a few friends. There were no open tables available so they quickly set up a table for the four of us so we could squeeze our order in before the kitchen closed at 9:15p. Was a very nice gesture I thought. Danielle was our server and she is terrific. Beers were ice cold. The baked clams and wings came out nice and hot. The lemon with the clams was fresh and cold (didn't sit around in a hot kitchen all night). A buddy and I both had woodsider burgers - cheddar and bacon. Very generous on the bacon. A great great burger. The fries are hand cut and awesome. Another friend had the fish n chips and it too was great. Overall just a really good business here. Easter dinner. HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT I have been coming to this place since the 70's with my family. I decided to have Easter dinner with my daughter. Ordered the food and waited 65 minutes for a cold piece of salmon and a cold baked potato. Hard cold asparagus. Granted, with my complaint they took the plate of salmon off of my bill that's where the one star came from.. but doesnt make up for the fact that I went home without eating dinner on Easter Sunday. Unfortunately I will not be returning. Sorry Donovans but your service is horrible. read more
