Big burger. Stopped in during a trip to Malone for my son's hockey game. Place was empty at lunch time, but they were happy to provide us with great food and service. I think this place would be great for dinner based on what we saw on the menu. read more

This is probably the best restaurant in Malone. They must have a first class chef because the food is creatively and expertly cooked. I enjoyed a mac and cheese with lobster minus bacon for which I was easily accommodated. My friends enjoyed the blacken salmon and a pasta dish with fresh asparagus. The bartender, Art is friendly and interesting, easy to talk to. They have a huge collection of keg taps hanging from the ceiling in the bar area, and I am told they have a wide variety of interesting on tap beer. Service was great; very relaxed and accommodating wait staff too. It all makes for a very relaxing and enjoyable meal. read more

I have been trying to develop a taste for salmon because it is so good for you so I ordered it. It was blackened and served with a mango salsa over rice pilaf and fresh green beans topped with fresh avocado...it was delicious! I would definitely order it again! Definitely as good as it gets in Malone. The quality of food rivals that of restaurants in much bigger cities. They have a great selection from steak and seafood to pasta. The interior is nicely decorated, and the atmosphere is warm. I highly recommend their crab cakes and duck. The only negative I've experienced was being seated in the gazebo-type room alongside other tables who were all there for a family party. The group was loud, and it put a damper on the quiet dinner we were hoping for until they left. We would have happily waited longer for a table in another area of the restaurant. read more

Staying in a semi-nearby town we wanted to go somewhere for a nice dinner. As the region as a whole doesn't have much to choose from, we were happy when we found Donovan's. The place itself is somewhat nondescript, and is casual in dress. They had a nice selection of beer on tap, and a variety in bottles. The wait staff that we encountered were very friend, and attentive. Also, very helpful when asking about items on the menu. They have a good selection of items to choose from, most entrees starting around $22 and up, so it's not a cheap night out but that doesn't mean it's not work it. For one app, we had the Chorizo Stuffed Mushrooms. The mushrooms were very good, and we enjoyed them. They are served over the "house marinara", which I honestly wasn't a fan of. If I were to return, I'd not order anything using is as main sauce, and the mushrooms really didn't need it anyways (an olive oil drizzle probably would have sufficed). But, that's my personal taste. We also had Bruschetta, which was really good. For dinner, I got the Pork Osso Bucco. Very good. The pork itself was very tasty, and I liked the glaze on it. It was tender, and served with the perfect amount of mashed potatoes. I would recommend it. Aside for duck (which they don't have) Osso Bucco is something I like to get when available and it didn't disappoint me. My wife got the Seafood Medley and my daughter got the Sesame Crusted Tuna. They both enjoyed their meals. I didn't try either, since I had enough of my own to work on! Dessert was a Chocolate Lava Cake, and Strawberry Shortcake. Fantastic, both. It was a good combo to get, since dipping some strawberries from the shortcake into the warm chocolate of the lava cake... awesome! Overall, well worth the trip there, and if we're in the area I'd go there again. If in the area and looking for a nice night out with some good good, in a casual environment, they are worth checkout out. read more

Ate there based on positive yelp reviews. However, didn't find the quality to be that great. Was with wife and two daughters (14, 12). I had Delmonico which was below expectations, daughter liked her filet but said it wasn't her favorite. Wife had Chicken Caesar which was average. Guess I expected more for a steakhouse. Not much in Malone. Only place we ate out at during our stay so I can't compare to other establishments locally. read more

The best restaurant in Malone! Drinks were great; we had steaks and burgers and loved them. The wine list is moderately priced but the Hahn was a real find for the price. This is an old fashion steakhouse, but I say that in the kindest way. We loved it. read more

My family and I come to this amazing restaurant quite often! We always come for birthdays and holidays, my boyfriend and I went to Donovan's for a night out. I do not know what happened but they were not the best. Unfortunately my food had hair in it and I ended up not eating my food until an hour later. My steak was then over cooked when I got it back. My boyfriend had already completed his meal by the time I got mine. Like I said they are usually the best in town but we were very disappointed about how our night out ended. read more

I have eaten here many times and it's been acceptable...not great, but acceptable. But I ate here on Christmas and most of the people in our party were sorely disappointed. All the chicken dishes were filled with grissle and the salads were bitter. The service and the bread were fine, but thats all I have good to say. Went there last friday, coffee was very good and prime rib was good but about 1/3 fat. service was very poor, seated by a man who hardly spoke and never smiled, waitress never asked what i wanted to drink and after i asked took her time about bringint it, had to call her over for refill and was through eating when that finally came. a little pricy but not bad if service was good, probably wont go back. I have eaten here 2x and both times I had seafood dishes...and both times everything tasted like maple. When I order a seafood-garlic dish, I do not expect it to taste like maple! I will try this place ONE more time since Malone (armpit of the North Country) does not have any decent restaurants. The next time I go, I will explain to the server that I do not want my food to taste like maple when I order a garlic dish! On the plus side, service was great! read more

Where do I begin.... I haven't been to the "new" Donovan's since it moved from St Rt 37. I had some family and friends up and as hesitant as I was from things I had heard I figured we would give it a shot. Walking in I was impressed with the renovations and really liked the atmosphere. We waited ten minutes for a seat when half the restaurant was empty. After sitting we waited another 15 - 20 min. To order. We had to ask for water and another place setting. Ordered the mozzarella app to find a dead fly under one of the discs. They never said sorry, just offered to bring us a new one. You would think they would have comp'd 1 meal. The waitress was no where to be seen with less than half the restaurant seated. I had the BBQ salmon which had a good flavor but very dry and overcooked. The rice wasn't cooked at all! I almost chipped a tooth!! The chicken piccata was NOT chicken piccata. The chicken bruschetta was chicken, tomatoes and penne drowning in water. The shrimp scampi was very good as well as the cheese ravioli. We didn't get desert because we just wanted to get out of there. Prices were much too high, I'm not sure who they are trying to fool. This is Malone NOT Lake Placid. I have had a lot better food for a lot less. Gallagher's should move to Donovan's. Then we would have great food with a great atmosphere! The owner was sitting in the bar when we left and didn't say a word to us. What is it with restaurants in this town?.......NEVER going back and won't recommend to anyone. read more
