Very good food. I normally get an omelette and biscuits with gravy. The blah experience was due to the waitress. As my family and I ordered our food, she would rudely question if we really wanted to add the extras like avocado. As if we weren't going to be able to afford it or something. Also, when I ordered the cinnamon roll I asked how are they looking today because the pics on here that have been posted show that the rolls seem to vary. (Sometimes more dry looking). Her response "They look good" with a straight face. Then I said um ok can I request a really good one maybe from the middle? She said again straight faced "theyre all the same" to which I pointed out how on yelp the pics show they vary. Again she said "they are all the same". As someone who cooks and bakes all the time, I know that if made by hand things are never all the same. So yes. Food was delicious. But the waitress was unnecessarily curt. I'm always on the quest for amazing bloody marys, this one didn't blow me away but was decent. The mimosas tasted strong which I'll never complain about but I wouldn't reccomend them for someone looking for sweeter drinks. The chicken fried steak was pretty delicious but the gravy tasted like it was missing something. I definitely reccomend the home fries, they were deliciously seasoned and the texture was wonderful. We were craving biscuits and gravy and came across this diner on yelp when we searched "best biscuits and gravy" in the Oceanside area. This diner has a small parking lot up front. Otherwise, you'll need to find parking out on the street. The restaurant has a homey, barnyard type feel with random decorations and signs. Employees were very friendly. We were seated, with drink and food orders taken, fairly quickly. However, after we received our food, we didn't see much of the servers and was a bit difficult for us to get the extra sauces that we wanted. Prices were very reasonable and you get large portions of food. . We ended up ordering a full order of the Biscuits and Gravy and the Country Stuffed Hash Browns with a pancake. It was definitely a lot of food for the two of us. The biscuits were large and soft. There was plenty of gravy which was tasty, but wished it was a lot warmer when it came out to us. The Country Stuffed Hash Browns was our favorite. They were nice enough to split the serving onto two separate plates for us. The has browns were stuffed with bacon, sausage, ham, and topped with an over easy egg and came with a side of salsa. The pancake was good and came topped with two scoops of butter and a side of maple syrup. Good service and yummy food. Give this place a try if you happen to be in the area. read more

Overall a great experience due to really great service. Surprisingly no wait on a Saturday morning, was greeted and seated quickly with options for indoor and outdoor. The server was such a sweetheart and service through the meal was excellent (coffee refills, etc). The food was a very typical breakfast selection, and they have a decent number of options. I really appreciated that when I asked to hold the bacon in my hash brown wrap, the waitress asked if I wanted to sub black beans instead. Mine was nicely plated, but a little under-seasoned for my tastes (which I find a lot of restaurant food overly salty, so this is notable to me). The San Diego County coast is overflowing with amazing restaurants... breakfast, lunch, dinner, a snack, drinks... or all of the above... you'll find something for everyone along our coastline, from Oceanside all the way down to San Diego. There are too many great breakfast/lunch restaurants to name, but a few standouts for me are French Corner, Shore House Café, Stratford at the Harbor, and Naked Café. As good as those are - and they are great - the best of the best for me is Don's Country Kitchen in Oceanside. I've never had a meal I didn't thoroughly enjoy there... Eggs Benedict, Huevos con Chorizo, French Toast Plus (the "plus" being eggs & a choice of bacon/ham/sausage)... and did I mention lunch? Holy Moly, I stopped in for their BLT with avocado and shredded cheese this afternoon... that sandwich can't be beat! Add a side of fries (excellent!) and you won't leave hungry! What puts a truly great restaurant over the top is the people who work there. Owners Dan and Britten have put together a staff that knows the value of customer service and relations... everyone who dines at Don's Country Kitchen is made to feel like the most important patron they've ever served. Indeed, you'll hear the phrase "You're the best!" repeated generously while there, and it will be directed at you several times. The vibe created by Dan, Britten and their employees opens customers up to one another in a way seldom found in these establishments. While enjoying my lunch at the counter this afternoon, the gentleman I sat next to started a conversation with me that carried on until he'd finished his meal and paid his tab; it was as though we'd been friends for years. Be ready for a wait... it seems locals and visitors alike have all heard about this humble and somewhat inconspicuous "little restaurant that could..." but the wait is well worth it!
