Several tables available for indoor seating

Who doesn't love a donut in the weekend? And this place was sure popular because there was a line out the door! Everyone took their orders to go, although there were plenty of seating inside. There were several friendly staff working and getting people through the line quickly. The donuts were good but not amazing (a little dry) but I really enjoyed the apple fritter. If you want a large order be aware the like to have those placed in advance.

If you want to know the best places to eat or to try, follow where govt. Workers and public servants go to. They know the best places!! Hence Donut Hut! You absolutely have to try the Daily Homemade Apple Fritters. They are the best I have ever had...even in Germany. It's so good!!

I grew up in Des Moines and I remember driving across town to get my favorite Dutch crunch donuts here. When I moved I was super sad I couldn't find a donut even similar. I dreamed about them and when I came back to visit family; it like divine fate guided me back here (okay I'd kinda forgotten where it was ). It has not changed except a cost of paint on the outside! The guy working here is still the sweetest. Beyond happy now with my Dutch crunch although coconut is a close second

Finally made it to try Donut Hut! And...I'll never get another stale gas station donut if I can help it again. Grabbed a dozen as a gift to some neighbors, but saved 2 for myself. This is a mom & pop type shop-- not a crazy overpriced place with 5lb pound donuts. They had all the classics, filled, long johns, old-fashioned, etc. Basically everything but the French crueler. I had the raspberry filled and maple old fashioned. Both I though were great, not dry at all. Loved the maple frosting. Just wished the raspberry was a jam as opposed to a jelly but that's personal. Probably a good 10 ppl in the store at 10:30 on a Thursday...lady at the front was very helpful and friendly. Overall, great place, friendly people, and I'm excited to go back and get some for my own fam

I grew up going to my hometown bakery every Saturday for donuts! There is nothing like starting your day with some glaze, powdered sugar, fritter, chocolate covered cake action! Donut Hut is one of those landmark spots in Des Moines.. If you want 1, or a dozen they will melt in your mouth and make you as smiley as the mural on the outside of the building! 25 people can fit snuggly in the building at a time and the line moves fast so no worries if it's out the door! The staff is so sweet and helpful and are truly here to make you feel at home, they know you by name and they are always glad you came!

I love a good donut, and love trying different things. The Donut Hut is a staple in Des Moines for good donuts. But they even excel further in their apple fritters! People come through this location in groups, so if there's a crowd, it'll be cleared in a few minutes. The staff is quick to get the line through and help all who are waiting for their fix. They'll also fill your donuts. On slower days, have a chat with the owner. He's got some great stories and insight as well as being an all-around interesting guy. When it comes to a weekend special breakfast treat, we love heading over to Donut Hut.

Great place for donuts that aren't incredibly sweet. Flavor is good and so is the variety. Love locally owned shops!

Great soft fresh flavored cake donuts. Got a cherry one and was expecting maybe just cherry frosting, but was infused well throughout.

This is a beautiful way to experience authentic French baking right here in Des Moines. Nadia's…read moreFrench Bakery has become a beloved neighborhood staple, and one visit makes it clear why. Most of the time I was there, a line stretched all the way to the door -- a steady stream of people happily waiting to purchase their precious goods. And after one bite, it makes perfect sense. The beignets are tender, golden, and decadently filled -- I chose the Nutella and the tiramisu, and each one delivered a luscious center wrapped in a delicate, lightly crisp exterior. They're indulgent yet airy, rich yet balanced. The strawberry cream croissant was beautifully laminated, shattering gently with each bite to reveal silky cream and bright berry flavor between buttery layers. There's a precision and care in every pastry that makes the quality unmistakable. Having traveled extensively and tasted pastries in cities around the world, I can confidently say these stand among the finest. From the highly praised almond croissants to vibrant fruit tarts, elegant cakes, and standout walnut cinnamon rolls, everything reflects true craftsmanship. Ces pâtisseries sont fantastiques. The menu extends beyond sweets with freshly baked breads, savory quiche, satisfying sandwiches, smooth espresso, and thoughtful seasonal offerings. The space is spotless and welcoming, grounded in high-quality ingredients and genuine hospitality. The staff is gracious and attentive, making each visit feel warm and unhurried. Owner Nadia Ahissou began baking during the pandemic and has earned well-deserved local recognition for her success as a Black entrepreneur. She is often present, hands-on and focused, clearly invested in every detail. Her commitment to authentic French technique is evident in every bite. Des Moines is proud to have this charming treasure in its community.
