The service was wonderful and my server Jana was the sweetest thing. The shrimp creole was perfect!

Absolutely amazing dining experience here. I got seated in the original dining room which is actually the smaller yellow room toward the left side when you walk in. Food was good and reasonably priced. We ordered a lot and the total came to $100 before tip. Got to meet Leah chase's daughter as well and take a picture. Lovely family!

I've heard so much about Dooky Chase, so my husband and I had to stop by during our Easter trip to NOLA this year! We arrived at open on Friday morning and were quickly shuffled into the restaurant. The vibe was great and I enjoyed looking at all the art and photos hanging on the walls on the way to the host stand. We were seated at a two person table near the entrance and ordered some items to share. The seafood gumbo was sadly more watery than I usually like it, and the shrimp was pretty overcooked, but the meatball/sausage was delicious and the flavor was great. Red beans and rice was excellent and the chicken was well fried but a bit underseasoned. We finished with a peach cobbler for dessert and it was delicious a la mode. Definitely worth stopping by when you're in the city!

Very good service and ambiance. Food was also vvery good albeit on the salty side. Our 2nd time visiting and we decided to have the Chicken Creole again. This time it was on the more salty side. We did mention this to the hostess who said will inform the kitchen. We also tried the Stuff Sheimp and, of course, their "famous" Fried Chicken...both very tasty! Service was also vvery good...Ms. Deja was our server and was very attentive & friendly. Unfortunately, the menu has changed. Prices are higher of course and sides are separate at extra cost! The online menus on their website have not been updated!

Great venue, excellent service, delicious food! This classic restaurant was such a treat to experience for my first time in NOLA! We went for lunch and ordered the three-piece Southern Fried Chicken with a side of stewed okra, mustard greens, candied sweet potatoes, and the baked macaroni. Also ordered the seafood platter, which was equally amazing. The show stopper though was the gumbo!! The ambiance of the restaurant was so warm and inviting. Loved the decor, including photos and paintings from the region. Would go back every time!!!

Dooky Chase's is so much more than a restaurant -- it is a true New Orleans institution. The history, legacy, and cultural significance of this place make it an experience that feels special from the moment you walk in. If you are visiting the city, it is absolutely a great place to check out. What stood out most to me was the incredible sense of history. There is something powerful about dining in a place with such deep roots and such an important story. For me, the history was even more memorable than the food, but that did not take away from how meaningful and enjoyable the overall visit felt. This is one of those places you go to appreciate not just a meal, but what the restaurant represents. I am really glad I went, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to experience an iconic part of New Orleans. The staff is friendly and everyone jumps in to make sure you're taken care of during your visit. We purchase one of their cookbooks and without asking had all the family members sign it for us! That extra step makes this a must stop place!

Some places feed you... and some places nourish your spirit. Dooky Chase's does both effortlessly. Walking in, there's an undeniable sense of history that makes the experience feel deeper and more memorable. There's a sense of pride, legacy, and culture in every corner. And then the food takes it to another level. Started off with the gumbo and hands down some of the best I've had, deep, rich, and full of soul. You have to try it! The shrimp Clemenceau is a must-try as well, it's perfectly cooked, incredibly flavorful, and the potatoes deserve their own moment...YUMMM!! The chicken Creole is comforting, classic, and done so well. Every dish felt intentional, like they all carried a story of their own. What made it even more special was the service, warm, attentive, and genuine. And please don't skip the bar, the drinks are just as impressive as the food. Crafted well and the perfect complement to an already incredible meal. I left feeling full in every sense of the word, great food, incredible atmosphere, and a deep appreciation for what Dooky Chase's represents. This isn't just a place to eat, it's a place to experience culture, history, and exceptional cuisine all at once. I'll be back for sure! If you're anywhere near New Orleans, do yourself a favor and go. You'll understand the moment you walk in.

Very nice place. Loved all the decor! Just stopped in for dessert. Our waitress was Joanne and she was lovely, friendly, and tentative. Our dessert was ok, have had better. But loved all the artwork spread out through dining room. All the staff was friendly!

Wow o wow did I LOVE this place! We came into town for a food tour and this was one of the best places we tried. We shared our food family style so we were able to try more things and it was so good. Our server Haley (sp) was so sweet and everyone we interacted with was so nice. I would 100% go back and get the gumbo, creole shrimp and creole chicken. End the meal with peach cobbler and ice cream and you've got a 11/10 meal right there. The owner even came out to check on us at the end. The outside is a cute lil place but the inside has artwork and pictures creating such a nice atmosphere for a good meal. I recommend checking online for a dress code but aim for business casual or smart casual!

This place was highly recommended by a local & we were so happy and grateful we were able to eat here. This place is a must visit as the foods were honestly exceptional & it is a civil rights landmark. If you watched the Disney movie "the princess and the frog", one of the owners inspired the movie. They don't take reservations for dinner & we were so lucky we were able to get a 8pm slot! We waited at the waiting room bar area next door until they notified us. The bar area was very laid back and loved the abita beers (that amber lager was so delicious and smooth!). We were very hungry so we ordered many to share: 1) gumbo, 2) side of baked mac and cheese, 3) side of string beans , 4) fried chicken plate, 5) redfish, 6) shrimp clemencea, 7) peach cobbler w ice cream. Wow! Everything was amazing. The gumbo, mac and cheese, fried chicken, shrimp clemenceau were the stars of the show. It was the best we have eaten! I can taste the love poured into the foods. It was seasoned and cooked to perfection! All the staffs & the security guard were so lovely, very friendly and very nice. It made the experience even better. I loved the artworks all over the restaurant. Highly highly recommend this place! If we come back to revisit NOLA, this place is on our top list to come back.

Dooky Chase's Restaurant is truly a New Orleans institution and an absolute must-visit. Knowing this restaurant was an inspiration for Princess Tiana already sets high expectations and somehow, it still exceeds them. Yes, people line up to eat here, but once you step inside, you immediately understand why. From the moment we were seated, the service was phenomenal: attentive, warm, and genuinely welcoming. The ambiance felt elegant yet inviting, full of history and soul, making the entire experience feel special from start to finish. The food was nothing short of amazing. We ordered the shrimp and grits, and I had the shrimp Clemenceau, and every bite was packed with rich, comforting flavor. Of course, we had to get the fried chicken, which lived up to the hype, along with a side of mac and cheese that was creamy, indulgent, and perfect. Even the drinks were phenomenal, beautifully made and a great complement to the meal. Between the legendary food, incredible service, and the meaningful history behind the restaurant, Dooky Chase's delivers an experience that feels uniquely New Orleans. The lines are absolutely worth it, this place is iconic for a reason, and I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Pains me to give 2 stars. I made a reservation a month ahead of time because that's what you have to do if you want to come for dinner. They only serve dinner on weekends. Get lots of texts from resy.com saying I will be charged a fee for no show. Has to be canceled 24 hrs in advance. No problem. Got an uber over here with 10 minutes to spare. Our reservation was for 730. I believe we got a table at 815ish. Best service was at the bar while we are waiting to be seated. Of course the whole time Im getting text about this no show fee even tho we checked in when we arrived. Great pics of past guests etc. History. That's why we came. After we got a table we sat for 20 minutes without seeing a waitress. And yes we stopped 2 folks for service. No someone will be with you. It was I will tell someone. Anyway, the gumbo is really great. Really good. Fried chicken good. Comes with no sides. Got some Mac n cheese that was good. I just cant get over the service. No apologies, nothing. If it was walking distance we would have left. Took 2 n half hrs for fried chicken n Mac n cheese. We didn't order anything fancy. It was good but going thru this hassle again? Yeah no

I've been wanting to come here for years. Just haven't made my way. Finally did and it lives up to everything. Made it by for lunch as we were able to pretty easily get July 4th reservations. I guess nobody thinks to try then they are usually booked up. The inside is beautiful with interesting art pretty much from floor to ceiling. Started with a creole gumbo turned out to be a perfect way to start the meal had a very rich delicious base. For my main I got the red beans with fried chicken, cause you have to. Couldn't have been tastier no notes. Perfect red beans and the fried chicken was so crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Also, got a couple cocktails. I went with the rum punch and Treme mint Julep. Definitely add that to your experience both were great.

I come to central deli whenever I'm with someone not from New Orleans due to the fact their muffuletta is quintessential! I would like to reiterate nothing was wrong with the food , great food purely with the lady taking orders. I got a classic half muffuletta and a "glass" San pellegrino. The lady then told me open glass is prohibited in New Orleans , I retorted with "o really I didn't know that , since when?" Before I could finish The lady then yelled with "SINCE FOREVER, IM SORRY YOUVE BEEN TO BAD BARS WHERE THEY SERVE YOU GLASS ITS BEEN ILLEGAL SINCE THE 50s" which isn't true the city changed the law in 2001. She then proceeded to open my glass bottle even though I told her I didn't want it open, so I the asked if I could get another one since she was in rage mode and didn't understand that she just contradicted herself. As I asked for the second San Pellegrino, she then takes the first one and goes "NO PROBLEM THANKS FOR THE FREE DRINK", and starts to drink the San Pellegrino infront of me as I check out, making thirst quenching noises like "AHH". As I leave she can't help but remind me for her free drink again. I'm pretty sure the management witness this whole situation and I hope they do something about, that lady doesn't realize what hospitality is and needs to be fired. I got the grilled shrimp poboy-- it reminded me a lot of the grilled shrimp sandwich from Num Pang, which is an NYC institution I miss dearly. But the bread is much softer and plentiful. The mayo and the overflowing pickled carrots makes it a messy experience. For Gulf shrimp, the fishy taste was almost nonexistent, a testament to the good seasoning and grilling. I wish we would all be so lucky to have late night bar eats like this.

If you are reading this, which of course I know you are, BE PREPARED FOR A LONG WAIT! If you read…read morethe whole review I'll give you the best tip on how to skip the line (insert shushing emoji) and don't cheat by skipping to the end! Hands down, the best po'boys in all of NOLA. Everything is made from scratch (except the bread, which they source locally), and you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. My personal favorites are the Surf & Turf and the James Brown. The Surf & Turf gives you get the best of both worlds (shout out to Hannah Montana). Look it up kids. You get the slow-cooked roast beef with gravy plus fresh Gulf shrimp. Shut the front door! The James Brown is just as incredible: juicy BBQ beef, pepper jack cheese, fried shrimp, and a hot sauce mayo. Bring napkins - you'll need them. Pro tip: go with a group and order a few different po'boys to share. You'll want to try everything. You made it to the end, so here we go. I feel like gate keeping (look it up old-timers), but I'm going to be generous because I love y'all. In order to skip the line, go to the bar area and find a high top or seat at the bar. A seat always opens up quickly. It never fails. You can order from the bartender and the service is top notch. Cheers y'all!

My 4 star rating might seem weird for a newly minted Michelin Bib Gourmand awarded restaurant..,…read morewhich category is for high quality food at great value. Which I 100% agree. Amazing food at a fair price. I can't rate the service as it is really go up to the counter and order and then pick the food up yourself... but the staff was amazing. The ambiance is great and unique, very nice I had the BBQ Shrimp Po-Boy and it was great. I can't say it blows away other Po-Boy shops. But, I can say it is a great Po-Boy, if that is what you're looking for... so, why the missing star ??? It's the fries , average at best. For a Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant, I expect better. Fries are nothing special (IMO). While service was good, because they allow ordering food from the bar and because the bar is encountered before the regular ordering window... people tend to order there and make it difficult for people like me to obtain a second Mango Margarita. I did score a 2nd one, but I almost didn't... we need to figure out how to keep the drinkers happy
