I really wanted to like these guys, but in the end I have to concur with most of the negative reviews here. I got 2 sets of double doors for a good price, and they were very helpful at first. There was a minor issue with one set that I didn't discover until I installed it several months later. They remembered me, had me document the issue, agreed they were at fault, accepted the bad part, and were ready to replace it with a new one. It would have been a 5 star review at that point... ...but now several weeks have passed with repeatedly unreturned phone calls and multiple empty promises of ordering the replacement part only to show up to pick it up and it's not there. My door doesn't close during this time! I feel I've been exceptionally patient. Finally, 6 weeks later I've ordered the replacement part with my own money. read more

Salesperson was unprepared/watching youtube when I arrived and the man who checked me in noted to the salesperson that they had a "pretty lady waiting for them" and that they were "lucky." I purchased a modern front door from Door Outlet for ~$1200. I followed their process to the letter: their people measured, constructed, and installed my door. After about 4 months, I noticed that the door was swelling. I went in and spoke to Trevor who noted that his supervisor, Don, would be contacting me. After multiple follow-ups by me, Don finally contacted me. He noted they'd had this problem with other doors, that the door was under warranty, and they would be happy to replace the door no problem. As this conversation took place during the holidays, Don noted he would reach out to me around January 5th to discuss next steps. A month and a half went by and I heard nothing from Don or anyone at Door Outlet. After reaching out twice to no avail, I received this from Don: "I apologize for not getting back to you sooner. I really totally forgot we spoke before Christmas. I will get CJ or Doug to call you and schedule a time to come out and look at the door. Most likely we will put a Temp door on your house and repair the areas that are swelling and repaint. If the door has to be replaced because it has a warranty I would have to have a manufacturers rep come out the next time they are in Austin to make that call. That could take months. Hopefully we can take care of it as we do with most doors that have this issue. We will be in touch in the next day or two." In our prior conversation, Don clearly represented that the door would be replaced, not repaired. He did not indicate the process would take months. After saying such to Don, I received this: "Please understand that we did not manufacture the door. We sell them. Because of problems we have had with these doors we contacted the manufacturer and in order for us to provide you with a new door there is a process we are now following in order for the warranty to be valid. The only way I can provide a new door is to follow this process. The manufacturer will send out a rep. The rep will determine if the door has enough roof coverage # 1. Installed properly , painted and or stained and finished properly , and if the is any water exposure such as sprinklers from the lawn and so on. If we repair the door we use auto bondo in area s that show de laminating and then we would repaint the door. You could not tell the difference and the damaged area s would be better then when it was manufactured. I talk with hundreds of people each month. I apologize for not recalling our conversation. Because of the rapid growth of Door Outlet in the past 3 years we have hired a receptionist to help with making sure all customer needs are meet. Again I apologize for the inconvenience to you. I will let the factory rep. know you are wanting a new door. Door Outlet can not control the timeline in which the factory rep. sets on warranty claims." I went there to buy a door, selected the door... took a picture of the door I selected and paid for which clearly had my name on a sold sign put on the door, but when my contractor went to pick up the door and was given the WRONG door.. .they refused to do anything about it! I am now stuck with a door I did NOT select although I have a picture of the door I paid for.... Shady sales people and shady business practices. Have received price quotes on items then when arriving on location they state a different higher price. So we changed our order and purchased three of the four items that we wanted because the price jumped so much on the fourth. Then my mom changed her mind and went back to the shop to get the door and they changed the price again, it is now more than twice the original quoted price. Beware when shopping here about their fluxing prices depending on the mood of the sales person or if they like or dislike the person who they are selling to. Would not recommend. read more

I ordered 6 doors on 11/27/18 from Eric. I was told they would be here in 5 to 7 business days. I've text Eric at least every 2 to 3 days to find out due date. Eric promised me they would be here 12/10/18. On 12/10/18 I called to ask about my doors to find out they're not in. I told Eric you're going to get me fired if you don't get these doors in, he laughs and says he's going to get fired too. I decided to make a trip to the store to find out what's going on, Eric's not in the office, I wait about 15-20 minutes for him. He walks in laughing saying you're going to get fired, I'm going to get fired let's go to happy hour. This is not even funny to me. Come to find out after all this running around the doors have not even been ordered yet!!!!!!!!!!! I'd forgotten all about buying a really hard-to-find door here about 8yrs ago. (the prices were thru the roof in big-box stores, D.O. sold me a BETTER door for 55% less!) So I'm looking for another house door and I decide to check Yelp, and I start reading all these reviews and thinking, mystified, "This is not the place I bought my door from, is it?". So I kept reading, and I don't think any of the reviews are fake B.S. but I do think I know what the problem is with the bad reviews...expectations. Disclaimer: I don't know any employees of Door Outlet or any of the reviewers, nor am I getting any freebies for writing this independent review, but I am a serious DIY'er and know more than a few things. First: The first problem is that people are buying here thinking of it as a cheaper alternative to their competitors. It is but not for the reasons you think. Someone else pointed it out; they manufacture basic new doors that they then sell, they sell overstock from other stores, they sell new that you can order, and they have used stuff too if I recall correctly. You may THINK of the store as an outlet (like an outlet mall) but it is not. It's more like a discount retailer for the product you're buying, a door. Second: The door manufacturing "industry" is more of a made-to-order business than a walk-on-the-new-car-lot business. And I do know that some of the quality control is real loose on a lot of the manufacturers (don't ask me how I know...). SO when people are complaining about waiting "...months!" for their new door and it looks like crap (or acts like it! leaking windows indeed!) when they receive it, now you know. (this happens even at the big-box stores) Third: This is also one of those industries where you usually have to contact the manufacturer for warranty work, not the store. If the store says 'call the manufacturer' there's a good story behind the store doing everything and not getting reimbursed by the manufacturer. Can you blame the store? Unlike the big-box stores who have the power to tell a manufacturer "You will fix this or we will drop you like rock from our 500+ stores", the small retailer like Door Outlet gets the shaft from the manufacturer. The letter that someone posted from the manager in another review, when read in context, shows that he was patient and set a clear line in the sand. He's probably dealt with complaining customers over the years and this is his no-nonsense approach to dealing with it. Now keep in mind, I think they should be practicing better customer service but I am not going to fault them for it due to my knowledge of the industry. Summary: If you are going here to buy a door, set your expectations accordingly. If you are ordering the door, keep all the documentation and when it arrives perform a THOROUGH inspection. If you don't think you know how to inspect then have your installer inspect and sign for it. That makes THEM liable and they don't want to have to do more fix-it work than necessary to get it installed. If you are buying the door in the store, the same rule applies; keep all docs, inspect THOROUGHLY before walking out the door. You bought it, you keep it. Even better, have the installer with you when selecting but you better already have an idea of what you want so you don't waste several hours of their time browsing through the store. Personally, once I've selected the door I wouldn't leave without it. Rent a truck if need be and haul it home. If you do decide to have it delivered, go ahead and sign your initials in various places (top of the door frame, on the inside jamb, the hinges, the bottom of the threshold, etc). When delivered, inspect for those marks and do not accept delivery if they are missing. Why? Well, you read the other reviews about seeming to have the wrong door delivered? (cough cough) And while it may seem ass-backwards, you'd be better off finding an independent installer first who can give you recommendations. Remember I said I am looking for another new door? Talking to my prospective installer (who will also be re-finishing my front door with transom and sidelights, no paint) about my last Door Outlet purchase even he agreed there are great deals there, you just have to know what to look for. read more

Re-measure, re-order, wait for 6 more weeks. It was supposed to be installed yesterday so my husband took 1/2 day off work to be here. Got stood up, again. Finally today they showed up 2 hrs late. Horrible experience. My company needed 1000' of baseboard for a project with a deadline in 10 days. Door Outlet had 400' in stock and Doug assured me I would have the rest by Friday (2 days.) He charged my card and Friday came and went without a word from Doug. I called all day but no one answered or returned my calls. I called Monday and left messages. Went by Monday afternoon and Doug said it wasn't on the truck, but assured it would be here Tuesday. No call/answer on Tuesday so I went by and he promised me Wednesday and they would deliver to me. We still have to install, caulk and paint by Friday. Guess what? I had to go in on Wednesday and when I told him I was going to tear out what I had installed and bring it back, he said he would find it locally and deliver to me. It's Thursday and I've found it myself locally. I went in to request refund and they would only give me a partial which doesn't cover the cost of the new trim, or my time or the good will of my customer. I will have to work through the night to try and make it happen. Doug strung me along for over a week and made promises he had no intention of keeping. They don't answer the phone, and they don't call back. Do not, I repeat NOT shop here if you want good customer service or if you have a deadline. And whatever you do, DO NOT deal with Doug. He will tell you anything to get a sale, and he will not deliver. read more

I ordered a custom door July 30th: 4 weeks later the wrong sized door was in. They messed up my order- honest mistake- fine. 6 weeks after that when I called to check on my reorder door they couldn't find my order at all. They acted like I was crazy and had never ordered a door. The following day when I called back with my invoice number ( I had to dig up my original receipt) they knew who I was , but could not tell me when my door was coming in. I have called 4 times requesting to speak to a manger with no call back. I have requested a refund because I don't have my door- no refunds on custom orders. basically here I a 13 weeks after I originally ordered my $900 door and I have no answers and no door. I would stay away. Horrible customer service and a coward for a manager that will not call you back. read more

I should have read the reviews..others have had unsatisfactory experiences as well. I DO NOT RECOMMEND. Bought from Door Outlet late last year when starting to have my first house built. Great price, great sales experience with Doug, left happy. I had the door installed (professionally) while having the house built. Once I moved in, I noticed on occasion that the wood floor at the front door was wet feeling, and starting to warp. I researched the issue and watched during storms. While checking the door during rain, I could not believe my eyes. The door was not leaking from underneath, nor down the sides, it was seeping THROUGH the door itself. Where the wood panels met, where the glass pane met the door, drops were streaming down the inside. I reached out to Door Outlet about the issue, talking with Trevor (head of sales?) Though he listened to all of my concerns and frustrations and shared his empathy, the restraints of Door Outlet let him unable to help me. Apparently, Door Outlet does not have/keep invoices over 8 months old, and therefore had no confirmation that I had bought a door from them. Trevor let me know he'd have to hand my issue over to Don, the store manager. The day ends and no callback. I called again in the morning, left a vmail for Don. I repeated this in the afternoon. No callback. I receive a voicemail at 5:02 (after they close) from Don. He let me know that I need to prove (with receipt and invoice) that I purchased the door from them. They do not have any invoices (What kind of business is this?) Lucky for me I'm a researcher and planner and kept it all - I pull the original and call Don in the AM. No answer, no callback. I call Trevor, letting him know I have had a very hard time connecting with Don. He was happy to help, thanked me for the invoice information to share with Don. I call Don the next day again. He tells me he matched my invoice (I don't believe him as he just said they don't have invoices) but he can't help as the door only had a 30-day warranty. I question this: nothing is written on the invoice/How would I know that?/Are customers informed of this,? etc. Don told me the manufacturer of the door, told me to call them. Hours on the phone with the 'manufacturer' for them to confirm that they did not make the door. I call Don back, growing more frustrated with the lack of true information. Don lets me know that 'it doesn't matter who made it, it's not under warranty, there was no warranty on this door' I read my notes from the previous day's conversation back to him letting him know that he had told me it had a 30-day warranty. He told me that when it was sold, the warranty information was listed on the door. I checked my photos from purchase (taken moments before purchase) and can confirm that there is NOTHING listed on the door regarding warranty or manufacturer. Pair this with the fact that there is nothing notated on the invoice either. Don lists 2 more potential manufacturers. (Why does this company not know where their doors come from?) I spent hours with each before one confirms that this was their door, but it was an INTERIOR door. I almost broke down in tears of frustration on the phone as door outlet sold this to me as an EXTERIOR door. I called Don with the news. No answer, no callback. I switch to email; its becoming clearer that I need a paper trail for this nonsense. I shared my feelings about the lack of communication from Door Outlet, the lack of correct information, the lack of invoice/paperwork on the business side, the ignorance of their own door manufacturers and products. The next evening Don replies in mostly caps lock. Is he yelling at me? I try to give him the benefit of the doubt but it's getting hard. Don tells me that I'll need to get a 3rd party to investigate. I (angrily inside) comply and get an approved professional door installer to come out. He took photos also, confirmed the leaking, and told me that in his personal opinion I should fight "tooth and nail" about this because it wasn't right. Don heard the guy out, apparently did not look at this photos, but deemed that nothing else could be done. I tried to get Don to reach out to the manufacturer, as they were eager to talk with him as well. A week later I followed up (growing extremely jaded about getting any help at all). Nothing had been done on their end. I got Trevor back on the phone and he let me know that there was nothing further to do. He said that they purchase doors at auction and do not always know the conditions/details. The lack of warranty information, invoice retention, product knowledge, follow through, support..it's all taken its wear on me. Still dealing with the issue..based on the past I am quite sure Door Outlet has decided not to provide support. I am out thousands of dollars on the door, floor, and repairs. They need operational, service, and managerial improvements badly. If you go with them and you need support, expect to get ignored and shafted. read more

My experience with Trevor Stevens at Door Outlet was remarkable. I did A LOT of research, and knew I couldn't get a better price than what he quoted, but was a bit nervous because I'd read some pretty harsh reviews of Door Outlet on Yelp. Every time I called, Trevor was super professional and seemed genuinely happy to help me find exactly what I was looking for, so I decided to place the order, and I'm so glad I did. His attention to detail and product knowledge was well beyond anything I could've gotten at a big box store, and his patience with all my questions was truly admirable. When the doors came in, Trevor knew that I was in a time crunch, so rather than allowing me to wait through the weekend for the next week's delivery, he drove them to my home in Rockdale himself! How many people would load up their wife and young son and spend their Friday evening driving 60 miles to deliver a couple of doors? I'll recommend Door Outlet, and specifically Trevor, to all my family and friends because you won't find a better price or customer service anywhere. read more

The negative reviews are correct. There are several other options in Austin that are less expensive and 100 times more professional. We purchased 4 doors, and had them installed by the door outlet for a reasonable cost back in early 2016. We then ordered another door, and were told this door would match the other doors we purchased. When the door arrived, it did not match the other doors, and they wanted $300 to install the door. We paid $100 per door to have the other doors installed... I called and spoke with the sales person, and he said he would order the correct door. I also spoke with him about the cost to install the door, and his explanation was that the door outlet no longer installs doors, they contract it out... this was never explained to me. After a few weeks went by, and I still didn't have my door, I called, and emailed the door outlet to cancel my order. A couple weeks went by with no returned calls/emails, and I come home to the door in my front yard. I called and spoke with the GM, and he hung up on me, and called me a liar. I thought about fighting this, but after seeing the amount of negative reviews, I don't see the point. I just hope potential buyers read these posts and think twice about using this company. read more

Worst service. They charge you as soon as you place the order. Multiple delays in getting the door. The threshold that they installed started flaking after one month. Were told that they placed the order for a replacement threshold. A month later we call to inquire about the status, they said that the installer was supposed to call us to schedule the install. Called back two weeks later, turned out they never ordered the threshold. Doug, the sales person, promised that we would have the threshold within two weeks. Two weeks later, we call and are informed that Doug will no longer handle our case and it is transferred over to Don, the general manager. Judging by the previous reviews, I doubt we will get any resolution. Leaving this review in the hopes that other buyers are aware that if there are any issues with the doors or install, they will have to live with it. It's best to go with a more reputable business. Wanted to add more info regarding timeline...an example of how they give you the run around: Nov 10: Bought door and a single piece threshold for $966.25. Charged credit card immediately when ordered. Mid December: Back door installed Mar 30: Sent pics via email of threshold flaking Apr 13: Sent an email asking about timeline of install. At this point, the installer had already come by to take his own pictures Apr 27: Doug ( salesperson ) placed the blame on the installer saying that he should have contacted us to set up an appt for the threshold since it was in the shop. May 11: Doug called me saying that due to a death in the family, nothing had happened He would be ordering the threshold that day and we would get it in two weeks. Notice that this contradicts what he had said on April 27 when he placed the blame on the installer. The threshold at this point had still not been ordered. May 25: Was told that by front desk that Doug would no longer be working with us. Don would - have not talked to him yet! He is always unavailable or not in the store when we stop by. But we were assured that they were going to be placing the order of the threshold. May 31: The threshold that we want is apparently not something that is made..barring the fact that they themselves have installed this kind of a threshold for TWO of our doors. Keep in mind at this point, they still have not ordered a threshold or given us any indication of what their plan of action is. Jun 2: Called again. Receptionist said that Don would call back in 5 minutes. Never got a call back. June 3: Called Don 4 times this morning just to try and reach him. He finally took our call. He angrily responded, "Hell no I'm not going to fix this door for you. I saw your Yelp review. I'll see you in court," and then proceeded to hang up on us. Please note that even though there are good reviews for this business, be mindful of the negative reviews. My belief is that the true character of a company is how they handle complaints. Look at our timeline and the hardships that we had getting somebody to address our issue. Most businesses work tirelessly to get you to change a negative opinion of them, this one washes their hands off you. Ask yourself if this is what you want when conducting business. read more

Unfortunate experience from start to finish. Our purchase was stretched out over two months. Way too much happened to explain on here. In short, we were pretty certain we were victim of a shady scam for a while. They had a large sum of money from us for a door that they couldn't seem to produce or communicate to us about. We have had to chase them down to get communication on every expected production or delivery date. We are about 4 weeks post the original date we were told our door would be installed. Somewhere about halfway through I ended up having one conversation with the manager where I pleaded for a refund. In that conversation he managed to insult two of his employees and myself before hanging up. I was left in a terrible position where they had my money but I had no door, and I was refused the refund because of the no refund policy, and I still had to deal with their god awful customer service for many more weeks. I was not able to contact a supervisor for the manager Don, or the owners. They flat out do not care about customer service. Our door is finally installed after waiting all day yesterday for them not to show up (not installers fault, for we were not actually put on the schedule). It is a BEAUTIFUL door. We are currently building our home just north of Austin. We have had nothing but a positive experience dealing with Door Outlet. Their customer service is impeccable. All the way from our very first visit to Door Outlet to the delivery of our doors I have nothing but good things to say. The doors are now hung in our house and after seeing quality of workmanship I am very happy, not to mention relieved. We have two half light doors in our pantry and laundry room and I'm so excited about those two doors. They're beautiful. We had a design that we liked for all the interior doors and they were very accommodating at making sure we were happy with what we received. Whatever you do, STAY FAR FAR AWAY from this business!!! After over a 6 month process we finally had a door in our driveway. Installer (who was great) takes off my front door, starts to put the new one on, and realizes it is the wrong size. I could see the installer's measurements on the order. It was not the measurements that were messed up. Old door goes back up. Months later a new door arrives. It is installed and within weeks the glass insert starts sinking down the frame. It is determined that the door is defective and has no shims to hold the glass insert up. The Door Outlet tells the installer to talk me into letting them add some shims and do a "fix" on it. I say no, just give me a door made correctly. Magically, when it somehow took months and months to get us a door before, a new door is available in about a week. It is installed. Within a month, the glass insert is sliding down the door again. Probably the same dang defective door they installed in the second round. Complaining or getting customer service is not an option. The installer was the only person that could get anything done for me. I quit trying and will be dumping this thing in their parking lot once I get my new door from SOMEWHERE ELSE. So I will echo a word I've seen on other reviews - extremely SHADY. When you spend a couple grand on a door, you kinda want a door. Addendum - just realized today that the panel has slid so far, we are now exposed to the great outdoor texas heat. Slathering it with shoe goo for the moment. read more

I ordered several doors from Doug at Door Outlet and at first the order seemed to go well. Almost all of the doors were delivered quickly, however, they struggled to complete the order. I had to wait over two weeks to get my ordered completed when it was promised in less than 5 business days. They then proceeded to deliver the wrong doors. Eventually, I canceled the remaining doors and purchased them somewhere else for less money. I have been waiting for over two months to have the credit issued to my credit card. I was then contacted by Maria who was helpful coaching me on how to order the specifications for the casing, hardware cuts and color options for hinges and thresholds. The turnaround time was as promised and I was called by Maria when they were ready for pickup. When I arrived, Paul Byers greeted me and helped facilitate how my doors were being loaded and protected in the most safe manner so they would be safe for the trip home. We were looking for an unfinished solid wood door to stain and make into an office desk. After looking on Craigslist and other sites, we went to Door Outlet to see what they had. We first looked at exterior doors, then Doug Byers told us to look at interior doors for better value. Wow, was he correct. They had a huge selection and we found the perfect one, BELOW what we expected to pay. Doug was fantastic. My new front door was ordered the end of October ...... And was just installed 5 days ago. I would not recommend the Door Outlet. There were many mistakes, followed by lots of poor customer service. The door wasn't ordered, the side light got broken, the reordered sidelight took 6 weeks, the hardware I picked out wasn't ordered ...... The excuses were plentiful. The young lady in the office is a relative of one of the owners so nothing will change, so I was told. The one bright spot in the experience was the installer, CJ. He was professional and did a great job. The end product is great, and the door is beautiful. If you want months of frustration and phone calls, by all means, this is the place for you. read more
