They were working on my neighbors ac and flooded my yard. I was having a fence installed and they filled the post holes with water. I have to cancel my fence installation because of the water they flooded my yard with. I called them and told them to bring a shopvac and they said they were too busy. read more

With this crazy Chicago weather...I had an issue with my A/C (& of course, family was coming in less than two days!) F%$k You Pricing. In the Fall, I scheduled, and paid for, a technician to come out in the Spring to do an annual checkup on the cooling system. Technician hounded me to install a "Compressor Saver" to extend the life of the system. All the cool kids have them don't you know. I initially declined but then relented. It took him 5 minutes to install the part and the bill was an additional $190.00 on top of the annual checkup fee. Technician left the packaging for the part so after he left I looked it up on Amazon. Part retails for $29.00! Obscene price markup. read more

My furnace breathed its last yesterday (Sunday). I called a bunch of local HVAC companies; I thought, my mom liked Doornbos, so I'll call them. Got the answering service, waited for a call back while I called a few other places. Repair guy calls, says the charge is $239 because it's Sunday. No problem. Asks a couple questions about the furnace, age, brand, what it's doing. I answer; furnace is 33 years old, WeatherKing, it was buzzing and then stopped altogether. He says he can look at it, but probably doesn't have parts because it's too old. So you would charge me $239 to tell me you don't have parts? Doesn't sound like a wise purchase to me. What about replacement? He says sales guys would have to come out, probably wouldn't get that until Wednesday. Hmm. I'd have no heat until after Thanksgiving? Not gonna work. I called another place, sales guy came out in a couple hours, going with them. I get that it's not their fault that my furnace blew, but I didn't need the attitude I got from this guy. read more

My AC wasn't blowing - oh no! It was slated to be in the 90's soon, so I needed this fixed. I saw the reviews on Yelp, saw they were local, and saw that I could make an appointment online. All things that I love! Joyce got back to me soon after I hit send on the online form. She informed me she couldn't get anyone out the same day. I wasn't even considering that as an option, since it was already in the afternoon. However, she said someone would come the next day and they'd call before they got there....which they did. The tech was friendly, efficient, and an overall nice guy. He needed to get a part, which the shop had in stock. Overall, fixed within an hour or so at a reasonable price. Very happy! read more

Had a nice gentlemen come out on Wednesday this week, came out diagnosed my problem being a bad valve. I asked if he could get it done that day and he said no i can not i have more calls to do. Which was weird but alright i get it I'm sure they are busy. He charged me 200 that day which i understand service charges and what not but still couldn't even fix it that day, then quoted me 400 to come out the next day to fix what he thought was the issue so was i paying two service charges for him not being able to fix it that day? He did say i could fix the issue myself so Wednesday night, I did replace what he told me to and still same problems meaning that the valve was not the issue. So i call Thursday and ask for them to come out again and get the boiler working they said they will have someone out. Then later Thursday they call and say technician can't make it. I understood but wish they would have called sooner than 4 PM to tell me that but hey i get it I'm sure they are swamped. Then Friday comes and they say he will be out Friday so i waited and then at 3 O'clock they call and say he cant make it again, which i thought ok this is getting a little ridiculous. They worked so hard in our cramped furnace room for hours. I'm not sure if they even took a break! Nick (the installer) did a lot of testing before he left to make sure everything was just right. My furnace started to run loud on a Sat night. I searched for a local HVAC place and came to the Doornbos site. I filled out the info form online and first thing Monday morning I got a call from Joyce. She was very nice and was able to get a tech out before noon. Kyle was great! He diagnosed the issue quickly, was able to fix at a very reasonable price, and let me know that the rest seemed to be in fine shape. Our AC went out this past weekend and the house was 80 degrees. They came within a few hours of us calling. Mark the repair man was polite and professional. He explained what he felt he had to do before he did it. Unfortunately, the problem ended up being more in depth than what he originally thought so he had to return the following day to finish he job. I'm not sure what a good price for an Air Conditioning repair job is and so to say they were good or bad price wise I have no clue. Honestly I cringed when his first estimate (before he saw that what he was doing wouldn't work) of $300 made me cringe but I'm also extremely frugal. He explained it as $250 for the compressor piece and the rest for labor. Sadly the bill ended up more as $1450 because the compressor wasn't the problem. I have returned to living like a penguin in my ice house so I am happy! read more

I wasnt happy with they guy they sent to my house he was like the grim reeper. He took great joy in delivering bad news and taking my money. I was charged $125 an hour he said it was a bad switch put one in. then after installing found out the copper was stolen(roof) then charged me $125 and hour to take it out. totaling $300 to find out there was stolen copper.He made it sound like he was doing me a favor by taking the switch, he would have to charge me for the switch.Well here it its winter and because I had no flipping clue (Im not a heater repair theif)that I would need it for winter. so hear I sit cold. I also had four seasons out years ago they switched the wires conneted to my switch and told me I needed a new furnace. So here i sit chilled by the weather and the guy at Doornbos. read more

I'm really disappointed. I had a technician out to the house on Saturday to fix a minor issue that they had fixed about a year prior. I wasn't home, but I told them what the problem was and they were able to coordinate with my wife. As soon as my wife called me to double check something (an upcharge), he got standoffish and wouldn't listen to a word I said. I told him about how the tech fixed it last time and he told me that it's not even possible to get my system running how it's wired (it had been running fine for over a year at that point). He charged me $90 to talk down to me about something that he didn't understand. So I wanted another tech to come out. I called the company and was greeted by the least friendly woman. She put me on hold multiple times and finally just never came back. Well, turns out I'll never be coming back as a customer either. Our boiler went out in the middle of the night. They came quickly in the morning. We have been a customer for over 20 years. A corroded Zone valve caused the transformer to blow. They said the motherboard was also bad. They replaced the motherboard and installed the transformer with a retro-kit and said this would work for now but the zone valves will eventually have to be replaced. Being that it is an old boiler each valve is $900 and there are 3 plus labor.. $1800 + Labor.... I looked on Amazon, Grainger and looked at the actual place where they make them..(.https://www.supplyhouse.com/White-Rodgers-Zone-Valves-1821000) They ARE $127 a Piece brand new and they wanted to charge me $900 a piece... I sent the mother board out and had it tested... NOTHING wrong... it was just a $200 transformer they charged me $3000 to put a retro fit kit on and still wanted to charge another $1800+labor for 3 valves before I stopped them. When confronted the worker said its because they back up the parts??? The owner has yet to return 3 calls to explain this price gouging of a 79 year old lady's house... My family has been loyal to Doornbos since 1950. They have met all our H/A needs, until yesterday. We are currently in the coronavirus lock down. All I needed were instruction on how to change the battery in my thermostat, that weren't shown in the hundreds of youtube options shown. I called on a Sunday afternoon and the Doornbos serviceman refused to help me over the phone. I would need for him to be in my home and I would be paying a Sunday service call. I called Dykstra, who will be my H/C contractor henceforth. Mr. Dykstra walked me through it over the phone, at no charge and even called back the next to make sure everything was working as it should. I have never written a bad review anywhere. Individuals and companies have bad days occasionally. But during these extraordinary times, even if over the phone help isn't the norm, I expected a little more loyalty to me. Outstanding! Our furnace went out on a Saturday afternoon, the tech Mike was here and identified multiple problems. He fixed what he could to get us up and running again, but the furnace did need replacement. Glen the estimator was out that Monday and gave us some options for replacement. He even went a step further to go over the issue multiple times with our home warranty company. The techs finished the installation today, and did a great job. bought an ac unit for 1600 dollars from them 2 years ago. Great service! AC went out this week, emailed them at night, called me the next morning. They are open 24 hours, but do to my schedule they were able to come out exactly when I was available. The technician was extremely knowledgeable, polite and was able to tell me exactly what my problem was with in minutes. Very disappointing experience to say the least! I am the owner of a medical building in Evergreen Park and we have two rooftop units. We have used Doornbos a few times in the past and eventually they replaced one of our units. A few days ago our second unit stopped working. So naturally, we decided to call Doornbos again and they sent Tom to diagnose the problem. Tom informed us that the unit had a small fire and he suggested that we replace it. He left the invoice and to my surprise the bill was $286.50. So I called to inquire. The receptionist wasn't able to answer all of my questions and informed me that she would have Dan a manager return my phone call. Dan called me and was actually no HELP!!!! Dan was rude and extremely arrogant. He spoke over me, raised his voice and didn't bother listening to what I had to say... He eventually broke down the charges which were as follows.... $59.00 for the service call (which I expected) and $227.50 for labor! LABOR???? for what? Tom didn't do a thing. He opened the panel and saw the burnt wires/parts and suggested we replace the entire unit. Needless to say Doornbos quote came in just a few dollars shy of $8000.00 for a new unit. After speaking with Dan and his lack of customer service it's safe to say, Doornbos has LOST a faithful customer. If I am going to spend my hard earn $8000.00 it's not going to be with a company that doesn't value it's customer and isn't willing to hear what the customer has to say.
