Gone are the days of Dos Coyotes being the best TexMex around in the Sacramento area. I've come to Dos Coyotes for over 1 1/2 decades. Apparently franchising will have its toll on Dos Coyotes. The manager said they are being forced to weigh and change the good ol'fashion recipe. This was my Go-To place for Shrimp Burritos. I used to take the first bite and savor the taste. Each bite was amazing. I was sadly disappointed that my shrimp burrito was bland and 50% smaller than in all my years of patronage. I ate here with a group of people and even the kids noticed a significant reduction in quality. For the price I pay, I expect the quality that Dos Coyotes was made famous for. I now have a new mission: find a restaurant replacement for my Shrimp Burrito. read more

First, love, love, love Dos Coyotes. I visit several times a month. I'm happy with most every order. But... recently had an order including two orders of roasted corn guacamole which were very heavy handed with citric acid (powder?). Oh my! At over $8 an order, very disappointing to not taste the normally delicious avocado and corn but an effervescent, tingly, citric taste. Not really edible. I don't think my orders will include this for awhile but I'll give another chance as it's a great guac when prepared right. Can't wait for the fall and roasted veggie burritos! read more

Customer service was great! We ordered and the food was on our table by the time we got our drinks and helped ourselves to the salsa bar. Our 3 year old had fallen out of his chair while eating and one of the employees noticed and immediately rushed over to see if he was okay and needed ice or something. I am shocked I have not written a review for this place yet. If I want a burrito I come here! Really good Southwestern Tex Mex food! I like the salsa bar and the freshness of the produce. The soda fountain is really cool and fun to try! I've been here so many times and have always gotten the shrimp burrito. The shrimp is so very tender and tasty. The best shrimp burrito I've ever tried! Today I got the fish tacos, they were good. I don't know if it's the type of fish cooked, but it was slightly dry, just a teeny tiny bit! The plate was good though. The rice was flavorful and especially yummy. The beans were the usual decried beans that were pretty good for scooping up with the tortilla chips. So how about food for the little ones? Well my middle one eats the Border Burrito and I am happy with how they always remember to keep the stuff on the side that he doesn't like and the eldest and youngest usually share a chicken and cheese quesadilla. Same thing though, they kept the chile's off her quesadilla as requested. Upon entering you stand in line to order, this must be for efficiency sake. The food is served on dishes, real metal utensils and real glass cups are used. You can ask for extra dishes with no grimace or complaint. Tables are bused and they clear away your dishes as you finish so you don't have a pile of empty dishes to stare at while another party member is finishing their plate. Overall a solid 4 stars due to their consistency of cleanliness, service, and good food. They are very good, but not mindblowingly awesome, hence the lack of the 5th star! read more

I'm not the biggest fan of Mexican/Tex-Mex food but we decided to come here one night for dinner to use an old $25 gift card. I have been here a couple times in high school but never really got hooked on it. I looked at the menu ahead of time and had my eye on a seasonal Elk Grove-only special: potato quesadilla. But once I arrived, I felt like a potato quesadilla probably wouldn't represent Dos Coyotes very well. I couldn't remember if I liked ranchero sauce or not so I asked the cashier a few questions. He was very patient and answered everything I asked. I ended up ordering a ranchero chicken burrito, which comes with chips on the side. Verdict: Delicious! The food came out super fast. The ranchero sauce was the best part. Especially mixed with the cheese, and my side of sour cream. The chicken was tender also. I tried all of the salsas available at the salsa bar but my favorite was the green one, I'm guessing a tomatillo sauce. It was sweet but spicy and went well with my dish. Also, the portion was huge and I was able to take half home for lunch the next day. Overall great experience, more memorable than the last. Tried this place for the first time today. I ordered the "Border Burrito" with steak and my boyfriend ordered the same, but with pulled pork. I decided to get the Border Burrito because it was listed as a customer's favorite. Border Burrito comes w/ flour tortilla with cheese, guacamole, salsa, black beans, rice, sour cream, your choice of meat. Also, comes with a side of chips and salsa bar. I thought there was a lot of rice, but then again it's like that everywhere. There was barely any meat in our burritos. Everything else tasted really fresh though. Employees are very nice. I've tried this place before but this will be my first time in this location. To start off, I like this location. It's spacious, a lot of seating inside and outside, a beautiful salsa bar, and they have a good amount of parking. You enter the restaurant and you order upfront and pay. They will bring your food to your table. We ordered the taco basket and the navajo nachos. For the taco basket, you get to choose your meats and it came with chips & salsa. We picked chicken, shrimp, and pulled pork (.75 cents more for shrimp & pulled pork). The nachos were good as I remembered but I wish they had the colorful chips like from the previous location I visited. It just makes the experience more fun you know... It came with beans, sour cream, and guac. They could also add more of those because we had a good amount of chips left after. The tacos were okay. I do appreciate the lettuce & cheese as some places do not come with those. The pulled pork was a little too sweet for me. I wish they told me that it was the sweet kind because if I knew, I would've tried the mahi-mahi instead. The chicken was dry and tasted burnt... But, the shrimp tacos were divine. It was so good I almost bought some to take home. Some things I appreciate: clean tables, water in real cups, colorful decor/layout, and chilled cups for your drinks! I have been a fan of Dos Coyotes for years, today was a first at this location and I wasn't disappointed. They are taking all necessary procedures. I did an online order and my food was ready when I got there. I asked for salsa and they had little containers of it ready to go, I was happy for that because their green sweet salsa is so good. Our food was delicious. Both of us ordered burritos. Mine was chicken, Husband for the steak. We both agreed that the chicken was better. It has a delicious smoke grilled flavor and it's moist and tender. I got a ranchero burrito and the sauce was so welcoming. I love a smothered burrito. Husband got a border burrito but wished that he had gotten the smothered ranchero burrito. We have tried a lot of dishes over the years and they seriously don't disappoint. If you're vegetarian the cheese enchiladas are swoon worthy. Plus their chips are the tastiest crispy chips and are FREE with your burrito. That's something chipotle doesn't offer but I wish they did. Happy to have that with Dos Coyotes because chips are such a good addition to a Mexican meal. read more

My husband and I ordered take out we got the Navajo nachos, ranchero burrito, border burrito with red chile sauce as you can see i my pictures. First of all the burritos are a really great big size I couldn't even finish it. Our Navajo nachos was missing guacamole and sour cream and we had refried beans when we specifically ordered back beans. We called and spoke to a manager about this and he took care of it so that was great of them to do for their mistake. The ranchero burrito was really good and the border burrito with the red chile sauce was not. I personalized it to have the red chile sauce which I obviously shouldn't have. I will give them another shot. I was happy with my first experience and this is my second experience. Update 1/24/15: ok I'm writing this the following day. I originally gave a 3 star but it's officially a one star. I was eating the rest of my burrito and well as I was chewing I felt a sharp bone which you see in my picture. I will definitely not be back here. Maybe others will probably have a better experience but I definitely did not and I ordered take out! I normally order the nachos but I decided to try their tacos during my last visit. I had two of the chicken original dos and one steak. for the three and a side of complimentary chips it was about $11. both the chicken and the steak were juicy and fresh. the tacos are served with guac, cilantro and onion. I wish there was lettuce for some texture but the guac was good. their guac is more smooth than chunky and the cilantro added a nice bite. each taco consists of two tortillas, which is nice since they stuff each of them and the stuffing can easily rip through one tortilla. it didn't seem like a big meal but I could only eat two tacos and a few chips in one sitting so it is a fulfilling meal! read more

I'd hoped to contact Dos directly, but their website is lacking a mechanism for feedback, so here I am. So, I just visited, and I arrived happy that this eatery was open for outdoor dining only (thanks, pandemic). Customers were directed indoors to place their order, and a large sign on the door detailed their mask requirement for entry, as required as a condition of them to stay open. Good, let's all be safe, right? Wrong. I go in to order and the couple in front of me are not wearing masks. I wait for intervention from staff, but not a word is said. I keep my distance and approach the register when it's my turn. I received a friendly greeting from the worker and took the pleasant interaction as an opportunity to ask about mask enforcement. The worker (a male approx 18 yrs old) was dismissive of my inquiry and said maybe the couple had medical problems. Maybe they do--but 1) that is not a valid exemption, and 2) if they are compromised, they shouldn't be dining at a restaurant, especially without a mask! It was pretty evident that this young man did not feel comfortable confronting the older customers about not wearing masks. And I get it, I do. But *someone* has to ensure that the premises are safe and that all customers are held accountable equally. This should be the job of management. MORAL OF THE STORY is that if everyone is required to wear masks, then someone needs to be enforcing it, and that someone should not be young, minimum wage workers. read more

Sadly my family will no longer be eating here after today. I was in the middle of eating my salad and bit down on something really hard. I spit out my food to see what it was and to be honest, I'm not sure what it is, but it doesn't belong in my food! After spitting out the rock or whatever it is, I noticed one of my bottom teeth is very jagged and hurts / scrapes my tongue when I feel it. I'm so upset because any visit to the dentist is always an expensive one. To top it off, are dentists even working during this crazy pandemic? Heard a lot about this location so I went in to try for myself. Everyone always said how good food is. The customer service was excellent. The eating area was clean, but I did notice that the grill had not been clean probably due to a lot of clientele through the day. However, I ordered a jerk chicken bowl, the market burrito, the border burrito and a bowl with mahi-mahi and my daughter opened her bowl with the jerk chicken. It was a live bug on the chicken. I told her that had to be the GrillMarks but the bug started to move I was so disappointed because I live 20 minutes away and gas prices are high. The salsa bar was clean and fresh. I always order the same thing at every Dos Coyotes: Tres Taco Basket with steak. These tacos today were ginormous! My plate was overflowing with tasty tacos. Lots of steak - more than I've ever had them put in my tacos. Fresh with cheese and lettuce just the way I like it. I added pico and enjoyed a wonderful late lunch. Couldn't finish it all actually. Dos Coyotes is good not great. This location gets very busy during lunch hours on weekends. Finding seating inside can be an issue, and it's very loud. I have used this place to cater lunch for over 150 people several times in the past two years and it is such a huge success. They always assist with the ordering process and work within my designated budget! The food is delicious and delivered on time! I like to sneak in a lunch at Dos when I am out running errands; my boys are not huge fans of healthier tex-mex dishes so i usually dine alone. I always tell myself that I will try something new but I RARELY DO lol...almost every time I dine here I order their delicious shrimp burrito. It starts with a warm flour tortilla and then they fill it with 6 charbroiled shrimp(you can pay extra for more), cheese, guacamole, rice, mild or spicy salsa and white sauce. To be honest it's been a while since we last ate here b'cuz my wife eats out alot for business and just wants a home cooked meals during the week. She selected the Yucatan Chicken Salad and I got the Paella Burrito with Green Chile Verde salsa. Both meals didn't disspoint, the salad was HUGE so I'll suggest to get the dressing on the side because you'll take half od it home. I was preparing to hit to road for a long road trip and wanted a huge, healthy salad to join me for the ride. I planned to go to Sprouts but really wasn't in the build-your-own mood and to my fortune I was passing Dos Coyotes and recalled enjoying their salads in the past. While this review will discuss my amazing salad, the service I received was the absolute best part of my visit yesterday. I asked the cashier if they had vinegar and oil dressing. Sadly they do not, so I at the risk annoying the cashier (it was noon and I anticipated a hungry rush behind my any minute), I asked her what all the salad dressing options were, and a particular ingredient I needed to avoid. She volunteered to speak with the staff who makes the dressings and inquire about the ingredient I wanted to avoid. She returned to the register and said all but one contained ingredient. I ordered the adobe salad with steak (medium rare) and used the creamy guac as my "dressing," and it was absolutely amazing. Ok salad was so good I'm getting ahead of myself here. Another employee brought the salad out to me (packed to go). I asked if the ingredient I didn't want was on the salad, she said no but let's take a look, and pulled the salad out and opened the box (so kind of her, who does that?! I would have simply taken her word for it and whisked off to the car)! She said we included the oil blend dressing, just in case; many people order and enjoy it. I'm so grateful for the patient staff who took the time to answer my questions, work with other staff to get the information I asked for, and did all with a smile.
