Do not order from here. They mess up your order, and the portions are smaller than chipotles. Ran by a bunch of incompetent people that do not care about the brand they actively ruining. Today will be last time I buy from them, first time in shop the burrito was the size of a medium taco for $15. Next two time I ordered delivery. Both times they forget a burrito in the order. I had a $6 off $10 reward on my app so decided to use it on a pollo asado bowl with guac. first off, the worker put very little of every ingredient but i didn't complain since i knew i would be getting a $6 discount. the portions are very different from the dos toros on jackson. anyways, i go to pay for my meal and used my app. however, my card gets charged $9.60. i ask the worker, i should've gotten a $6 discount. she ended up not charging for guac which is a nice oversight but annoying this time around because i need to hit a $10 minimum for the discount. it ended up taking some time to refund and recharge me with the discount added. i understand that mistakes happen but my biggest annoyance is that no one apologized. a simple sorry would've been fine but nothing. now i FOR SURE will never be back at this location. read more

I eat at Sweet Greens quite frequently for lunch and I made a mental note to try here. Viewed the menu and was pleased to see they serve nachos. The menu options/ingredients are typical: chicken, pork, steak, rice, black beans, salsa, lettuce etc. I ordered nachos with chicken, black beans, rice, cheese, pico and lettuce. I was surprised at the small amount of tortilla chips that were put in the bowl and the rest of the ingredients were the same. Am I 5??? The nachos tasted just okay. I've been to Dos Toros for a yelp elite event before, so I was excited to revisit. BUT- when did they start charging for guacamole?! Thankfully the freebie I had allowed me to get the guacamole at no charge, but that was a super disappointing start! During prime time lunch rush, I felt like they were extremely quick and efficient. To be honest, service wasn't that kind, and they didn't tell me the "market veggies" counted as a protein before they offered them to me... but they certainly had no qualms yelling at me about charging for double the protein. I showed them my free coupon (met with eye rolling), but offered to pay for the double protein portion; It just would have been nice to have some kind of signage up! They should also label the food choices while they're at it. Finding a seat wasn't difficult, it was extremely clean and they offered complimentary water. One thing that differentiates Dos Toros from other spots is they melt cheese right onto the tortilla for you. Love that gooey cheese! All their ingredients are always super fresh and tasty! Even better, they serve beer. I have been here several times and if they had late night hours a lot more. They have impossible ground beef. Had an early dinner here a couple of days ago. Came here on a recommendation from a friend and am really glad that he told us about Dos Toros Taqueria. I had a carnitas plato which is basically a burrito, but served in a bowl. Mine consisted of carne asada (skirt steak), rice, black beans (you have your choice of black or pinto beans), guacamole, veggies, cheese, lettuce, onion, and tomatoe. You have your choice of sauce It was really tasty, everything was fresh and the meat delicious! You have your choice of hot sauces, Smokey or mild, Verde or medium and Habanero or super hot. I opted for the Smokey sauce and It was a great compliment to my meal. The location is right on the corner and has 2 levels. On the first floor, you order, select your ingredients, and pay for your food and drinks. The only seating on the first floor are stools along the wondows. Upstairs, there are 6 tables that seat 4, 10 window seats, and 2 middle aisle tables that seat 10. Great food, fast service, a great time all around! read more

Super taco joint! We loved all of the tacos we tried - pastor, chicken, carne asada! Good range of spiciness with the salsas and options for toppings. Amazing food! I came here for an event on Wednesday. The staff looked like they really enjoy working here and can turn your order in to works of art. I had the Cali quesadilla. The shell was nice and crispy. I put cheese (lactose free), pulled pork, beef, corn, guac, tomatoes, and the smoky Verde salsa inside. Yes, it's like Chipotle but with a few differences. A) The bowls run deeper, which is nice because you don't have pieces of lettuce flying everywhere when you eat it. B) The tortilla can come with melted cheese! C) The homemade salsas are a nice touch and I loved the habanero, although it's not very spicy. D) The Spanish rice is no match for Chipotle's cilantro lime rice. E)Yes, the guac is cheaper here running only a buck extra! Overall, I loved my burrito with carnitas. It was insanely flavorful but I did not get much of it and it wasn't really spread out evenly. So I had a couple of really delicious bites of my giant burrito before I discovered that I had eaten all of the meat in it. I can only speak for the carnitas here; it is way better than Chipotle's but not sure about the other meats. I feel like the chicken at Chipotle is always the best choice because the other meats are always hit or miss. This place seems to be more consistent with the cook of the meat, but may not be so much with the quantity. I loved eating here at the actual restaurant. My friends and I were walking around downtown about a month ago. We were looking for a place to eat and both my friends suggested this place. One has been here before and likes it. The other friend, Linda L., has heard good things. The place is spacious. The counter to order is on the first floor, along with a long window table and high chairs. It was about 4pm on a Wednesday so pretty empty. One friend ordered a Chicken plato. Linda L. and I split a Carne Asada quesadilla and a Carnitas plato, both with guac. We decided to sit upstairs at a long table to have more room. The second floor is cute. It has mirrors, wooden tables, and nice, warm lighting and big windows facing the busy streets of downtown. Before digging in, we took a (long) moment to take pictures! Now for the food. The Carne Asada quesadilla was cooked perfectly! It was a good size, definitely big enough to share between two people. The only thing is that they could have added more cheese. Linda L. went in for the cheese pull and there was none at all. The Carnitas plato was also good. You can tell the ingredients are fresh. My friend enjoyed his Chicken plato, as well. Overall, it was great but not amazing. It's Chipotle. No better no worse. I think the best advantage is that the guacamole is free. The staff was polite, energetic, patient, and friendly. The food tasted fresh, with good flavors on the steak and in the medium salsa. The speed and efficiency was quick, but not hurried. The menu is very similar to the other guys and has its own quirks. Would I come back? Yes! Though there isn't any differentiating feature that would make make me choose this over a similar offering. I liked my burrito, I liked the toppings, and I liked the size. I usually have no issues with this place and am a big fan of the food...but today was a serious off day. I scheduled my food for pickup hours in advance, and it got backed up due partly to somebody's massive catering order, and I was just standing around being told "We're working on it." After nearly 20 minutes past the pickup time I was asked what the order name was so they could finally start it, evidence enough that not only were they not working on it, but that the whole "order through the app" system is faulty. On top of that, the guy assembling my burrito seemed new to the job, which might be forgivable under different circumstances, but parts of the tortilla were bizarrely cold, and there were way too many pickled red onions, including a large wad of the onion peel. And it wasn't the usual pleasingly narrow width of a good Dos Toros burrito, either. I'll be back at some point but am sorry to say that next time I will be opting for Chipotle, even though I generally like their food less. It would be nice to see at least one of these issues resolved in the future. read more

First timer here lol I had the veggie burrito for lunch and it was great. Seasonal veggies, black beans, rice, guacamole, tomatoes, lettuce and all 3 salsas - LOVE the hot one! It was a big burrito around 600 calories and very healthy & filling. This place is about 3 blocks East of my work, I will most certainly be back. I was first introduced to Dos Toros through my first Chicagogrammers event. It was a pleasant experience! The manager and workers are so nice! They also have a food stylist for their instagram. They really care about their food and how it's viewed. They even have funny parody vids on Youtube. Search for "Black or Pinto" or "Guac it Out". Their food tastes very good! All their meats are seasoned well. Even the market veggies are tasty. The squash tasted almost like potatoes. It was a pleasant surprise especially when squash can turn into mush if you don't cook it right. They have farro which is gaining popularity in the food world. It's definitely got food that is more upscale than Chipotle. It's price is about the same, too. If you can get to a Dos Toros pick here instead of Chipotle! read more

Take my review for what it's worth but I will start by telling you what I liked about Dos Toros. The service was amazing, the staff was funny, friendly and the food well surpassed my expectations. I don't normally visit chain Mexican restaurants like this but dos toros has completely changed my mindset. Granted, I was only here because of a yelp elite members sponsored event but I still found this place to be in a league of it's own. They had a pretty good beer selection as well as toppings, meats/proteins, addons such guacamole and they had more then enough room and staff to handle large crowds which would be particularly helpful for lunch and dinner rushes. I tried a burrito and the steak was very flavorful and cooked very well. Also when I say the steak was cooked very well I dont mean it was "well cooked". It was very tender and consistent with every bite. When it came time to rate and review Dos Toros, I recalled a conversation I had with another yelper I was talking to. We got on the topics of how he approaches reviews. He mentioned his method which I actually found to be pretty good. He said he reviews restaurants based on their categories, and based off of their competition. So for example, if he reviewed pizza he would take places like Domino's, pizza hut, papa John's and rate them accordingly. He explained he does this because those are chains in the same category of competition. He would not rate those places alongside places like the Art of Pizza, Lou Malnatis or Pequods because although they are pizza places, the quality is completely different therefore will not be a fair comparison. With that being said I thought to myself, who would be competition for Dos Toros. I thought maybe chipotle and places like qdoba would be competition. However, I've been to those establishments, and I can honestly say that dos toros is not even in the same ball park. In terms of service, quality, attention to detail and responsiveness ot deserves to be separated from the rest. Dos toros is a new restaurant in the food market in the city and they are definitely holding their own. Although my attendance was based on a sponsored event, they definitely won me over. They have gained a new customer going forward. A big thanks to the management especially the staff at dos toros for the delightful service, experience and hospitality. It's definitely better quality than Chipotle and the service was fantastic. They also serve beer and have ample seating. The only downside is the location makes parking next to impossible and it's a bit of a hike to get to if you don't live or work in the loop. If you do, lucky you! There's some seating on the ground floor (high seat window seating to the sides) and on the top floor as well. Even crowded, place looks neat. The food, I am afraid I might be able to do justice to this part as I made a mistake ordering Habanero sauce in my plato. It is crazy spicy to me and I was dying through out the adventure(Finishing up my meal). Gauc I had on the side helped me a bit. We had ordered one carnitas burrito to go and it was great! I like how I can eat Mexican burrito without the need for cheese. Since I am lactose intolerant I like to eat my Mexican food with the least amount of dairy. Their ingredients tasted fresh, and I loved their rice it's packed full of flavor. Don't come in thinking it's another " Chipotle," because it's not. The flavors are totally different from Chipotle. You can actually get meat instead of shredded meat. I stumbled on dos toros tacos while lazily lying on my couch, hoping something on uber eats would catch my eye. Then, I suddenly noticed this new buy one get one free tab and was instantly intrigued. I decided to get 2x chicken burritos and 2x steak burritos with everything sans grain and guacamole. My delivery was great and my burritos were well wrapped and a decent size. My steak and chicken were both pretty tasty. I appreciate the char on the meat and the crisp lettuce. Im sure dos toros gets a lot of chipotle comparisons but it is like 2 to 3 dollars more expensive. I checked to see if their beef was specifically grass fed to explain the difference but it just said special vegetarian diet. 3.5 stars! read more

This place is tops for me when it comes to Mexican fast casual. From the outside, they may appear like a "Chiptole", but take note, they are not. I've been a fan of Dos Toros ever since they opened in NYC. The food was just so good and decently affordable (especially their guac, which comes at only $1 more). I've been a couple times, but this is my first in Chicago and since the last time I'd been they've added a variety of menu items. I was excited and wasn't sure where to start. I've now tried all their proteins. They're even vegetarian friendly (they have delicious seasonal market vegetables to fill their tacos, burritos, salads, plates or quesadillas with). The guacamole is delicious and made fresh daily. I remember seeing this place opening up as its on my way home from my old office. Then I had a chance to check the place out first hand when I got invited to a Yelp event to create and eat my own burrito...was very good and the event was fun. Very good as I remembered it and the ingredients are very fresh...same assembly line setup as Chipotle and Qdoba. You have options to go with tacos and bowls like the other places. The place itself has 2 levels and you can sit at the stools at the window for people watching. I dig this place and that says a lot coming from a big Chipotle lover. Great grand opening deal! Got any entree for just $1! Chipotle has competition. Originally from NYC with bay area inspiration (whoot whoot), theyve expanded to Chicago! They knew how to wrap a burrito, it didnt fall apart when I was eating it. Regular price for a carne asada burrito was $9.64 and guac is .90 cents extra. The carne asada itself was a good softness but it was a little bland overall. I'd come back if there was a promotion going on but if not, the pricing is not that great of a deal. read more

I'm a sucker for a good deal, so when I heard about the $1 burrito Grand Opening yesterday? I hustled right over. The line was long (as to be expected) but it moved fairly quickly due to not one but two assembly lines goin on inside. I see you dos toros! And I have to hand it to the employees who did not lose their cool under pressure! The only part I could've done without was the corny music aka "guac it out" blasting outside while we waited. But once inside, I liked the decor and setup. For food, I got the chicken burrito with cheese, black beans, rice, fajitas veggies, corn, smokey (mild) sauce, tomato salsa, lettuce, and sour cream. And yes, it was one FAT burrito. Lasted me 2 meals along with chips&guac! I definitely enjoyed it, but wish the chicken was a little more flavorful and the smokey sauce had a little more kick to it. Yummy Burrito. Similar to Chipotle but not the same, not to sound cliche. They used sliced cheese and melt it on the burrito prior to putting anything on. I don't know what kind of cheese it was but not overpowering. The rice is like a yellow or reddish flavored rice. When the burrito is fully formed it's longer than a Chipotle burrito. I went with the Carnitas. Tasty but not overly tender. I went with the green salsa. Nice taste and mild. They were quite crowded when I went but the line moved by quickly. I had lunch with a co-worker at Dos Toros Taqueria and we both enjoyed our meals. We arrived in the midst of the lunch rush but the line moved rather quickly. This is not only due to the method at which they serve food but, assembly-line style, but the fact that the main line splits in two once you approach the counter. What a great idea that keeps people moving through FAST. Overall, the process is nearly identical to Chipotle. And the food is nearly identical too, just with their own different spin on it. That being said, it was tasty! I had a chicken burrito that, in the end, was probably the same amount of food as a Chipotle burrito but longer instead of fatter (and much easier to eat!). My co-worker had the tacos (one chicken, one steak) and he enjoyed them as well. Naturally, since it was whipped up so quickly, everything was hot and tasted freshly made. The space isn't very large, with the main floor having a few window seats and there being a small assortment of tables upstairs, but we found a table and had a nice quick lunch. The staff is friendly, the food is good, and the price is right where you'd expect it. Dos Toros is a solid spot that I'll return to again in the future... probably the near future. read more
