It's okay. The food is good but the ambience and atmosphere isn't the greatest. It just seems like a typical Indian restaurant that you sit at, not really any wow factor. We ordered Papri Chaat ($5.99), Dahi Vada ($4.99), and two Masala Dosas($6.99). Everything tasted good and the service was quick. The Dosas were excellent. The ambience was casual and quiet. My wife ordered a masala tea. It was okay, spicy, you can taste the cardamom, which I liked. Overall a good experience and I would come back. Also street parking was easy. Ambiance is decent, food was ok. We ordered paneer manchurian, and waiter just threw the dish on the table and ran away ( because they were busy??). It was made decently, but the portion was really small for the price ?? Then we ordered the South Indian thali, which was pretty good.portion was decent and all the stuff( idli, medu vada, paniyaram, dosa & uthapam) were well made. Started off with Batata Vada, potato fritters with a sweet & spicy sauce, so crisp on the outside and creamy on the inside. Excellent sauces, I was obsessed with the green. The stuffed paratha with onions, potato, pea, and paneer was very filling and savory, a great alternative to the naan I usually associate with Indian cuisine. Fell in love with the chana saag, how can Indian cuisine make me appreciate vegetables so much when I normally detest them? The spinach and chickpea with creamed curry sauce was heavenly. The coconut rava masala dosa filled with coconut & chillies was our last dinner item, it too was worth raving about. I love how well the sweet and spicy mixes here, and the gorgeous color inside the dosa. It is fun to alternate dipping into the chutney & sambar for a different taste with eat bite. I actually ordered dessert here, which I rarely do with Indian food. The Badam halwa, which is almond paste topped with kulfi which is an Indian ice cream was so incredible. One of my biggest regrets in life was sharing it. I would love to sample every item on this menu, I'm sure you can't go wrong here at all. Very affordable! If you are looking for kosher certified Indian cuisine, you may want to skip this place. I called the rabbi listed on the kosher certificate posted in the restaurant. His response was that the certificate is fraudulent, and that the restaurant hasn't been under his supervision since before Covid, even though the certificate had a current date on it. Perhaps something has changed since I checked some months ago, but I would recommend that if this is important to you, call first. The certificate listed rabbi Israel Mayer Steinberg as the supervisor. Still, I would not trust any establishment which posted a fraudulent certificate. read more

Excellent Dosa restaurant in Little India of Hicksville. Offering vegetarian and kosher options. The menu is a little intimidating at first but the waiter was very patient and described all the different kinds of dosas and fillings. The lentil soup was a bonus as it was a bitterly cold day. You will leave the restaurant smelling like curry so don't plan to go anywhere that involves being in a confined area with others after the meal. The service is quick and attentive, although it is a bit awkward because I feel like they're never as crowded as they should be considering how good the food is. Why aren't dosas everywhere? I mean, a real "world of dosas" would make me happy. Most Indian restaurants on LI (read: northern Indian/Pakistani) do not specialize in these savory, crispy southern Indian treats. In any case, I don't mind driving to Hicksville for my fix, since Dosa World offers a wondrous array of dosa varieties and they are all terrific. I recommend the rava masala coconut dosa and the Mysore masala dosa. Can't go wrong with mango lassi to cool down, but they also allow BYOB and a nice beer works just as well. read more

Went out here for my grandma's birthday with about ten people and everyone from the vegan (me) to the vegetarians to the carnivores loved the food and experience at this restaurant. I ordered the fried lentil donuts, cauliflower Manchuria, bhel, and onion rava masala dosa (a lot of food for myself I know). Everything was amazing! Other people I was with ordered the onion utapum, potato/chickpea chaat, rava masala dosa with cheese, a variety of the gunpowder dosas, mango laasi and idlis. Our servers were also super friendly and accommodating. No one had anything but good things to say. It wasn't hard to get a good parking spot. We parked on the street right next to the restaurant. As we entered, we noticed it was clean and well kept, but I could tell the workers were eagerly waiting for someone to come in. There was nobody else. The waiters were very friendly with us, and made conservation. The bathroom was neat as well. We started off with the buffet by getting a cauliflower/lentil dish covered with creamy sauce. It was delicious to eat it with roti (like bread). We also got vada, a crispy pastry, and idli, a sort of rice cake. Both were splendid. We also ordered a masala dosa, which did not fill my expectations as much as I thought it would. My friend liked dosas to be crispy, as do a lot of people, but the dosa was more fluffy than crispy. I also was displeased at the lack of masala (potatoes) inside the dosa. We liked the buffet, so we decided to get a gulab jamun for "dessert." A gulab jamun is a cottage cheese ball dipped in syrup. It wasn't as good since it wasn't freshly made and it wasn't hot, but it still tasted sweet. I would definitely recommend to try the buffet. Definitely a place to try if you're in the town. Dosa World continues to up its game! :) Have been back a few times. Last time, had a little family lunch to celebrate a graduation. The owners/hosts were so gracious and kind, as they always are. They have added weekend lunch buffet for a few months now, and they seem to be doing very well. Food is always fresh and delicious. I love their fresh chutneys, and sambar and rasam always on point!! The buffet also includes dessert and tea/coffee, which are always excellent. They cater to your tastes (spicy/salty/etc), and they always go the extra mile to make your experience special. No, you don't come here for the atmosphere. Nor the cocktails (nor, for that matter, the beer or the wine). You come here for a 5-star dosa coma! And you know what? These babies are worth the stark sobriety. Simply put: The Best Dosai I've probably ever had. There are a lot of dosa options now in Hicksville. Off topic: whenever people claim that the suburbs are lacking in variety and are all chain-obsessed, I love to point out that they are wrong. At least they are wrong about Long Island. And the Greater Toronto Area, but that's a topic for another review. Hicksville is Long Island's Little India. The first time I had a dosa was at House of Dosa, roughly 8 years ago. I was used to and adored Northern Indian fare for decades, again thanks to my parents' rather adventurous ways when it comes to cuisine of various ethnicities. But Southern Indian food is a whole other, spicy delicious vegetarian world. I prefer dosai over uttapam because I just love the thin, crispy crepe. Also, dosai remind me of potato chips (I love potato chips). Not that I'd ever kick an uttapam out of bed or anything. House of Dosa, which is very close to Dosa World, is good. Chennai, also good. Dosa World, however is even better. Last night I had the mushroom masala dosa and asked for gunpowder spices to make it as spicy as I need it (Indian spicy, if you will. NOT white girl spicy). Normally I can't finish my dosa after eating what I always get as a first course, idly in rasam, but because the dosai here are so perfectly crispy and thin, not to mention incredibly delicious, I devoured the entire thing, along with the mushroom/potato filling AND THE sambar. And, ahem, the divine coconut chutney, too! Another thing: any dishes that contain dairy are clearly marked. There's no meat dishes lousing up the menu, either! I urge you to bring your Indian food-loving friends here, especially if they are vegan/vegetarian. read more

Best Gobi Manchurian around--apart from mine :) If you're local and considering going vegetarian, this place will be your oasis for real South Indian vegetarian fare. Eat here--you'll never miss meat again. It's so good that I've spent several months now learning Indian cuisine. I thought, if I could eat like this all the time I'd never miss meat. Since none of the other reviews seem to mention it: this is the place to go for real Tamil food in Hicksville. I've been a number of times. As many other reviews say, their dosas are excellent (I tend to go for the crispier rava dosas and the soft and thick uttapams). But where this restaurant really stands out is in its South Indian Thali, which consists of a selection of Tamil dishes that continue to be otherwise difficult to find. I'll go through the dishes of the thali in an attempt to demystify this food to newcomers. Sambar: a tamarind and lentil stew. I like to get an uttapam and dip it in this. Rasam: a thinner, tarter tamarind and lentil soup. I like to get a medu vada (lentil flour donut) and dip it in this. Avial: a thick stew of vegetables boiled in coconut milk. Newcomers might be put off by a kind of spiky vegetable included in this dish, colloquially called "drumstick," but you'll learn to avoid them. I like to eat my avial with the papadam (crispy flatbread) that comes with the thali as well. Poriyal: a generic term for a stir-fried vegetable. The vegetable for my poriyal was cabbage, which was, somewhat unexpectedly, extremely flavorful. I like to eat my poriyal with the poori (fried flatbread) that also comes with the thali. Koottu: a sort of dal stew with vegetables. I eat this one with rice. Kulambu: the star of the meal, in my opinion. A rich curry, mine with eggplant. I also eat this with rice, alongside the koottu. Also included in the thali was some dahi (Indian yogurt) and a dessert. My dessert was a rice pudding with cardamom and nuts. As a big fan of cardamom, especially in desserts, that made me very happy. All in all, an excellent Tamil meal. I will be back, hopefully to try some of the rice dishes (like vangibath, bisibilabath, pongal, and upma). read more

Been here twice. Twice we've had hair in the food. On my bald father's plate. When we reported this to the owner we were told it's probably his hair. What hair? He's bald. Ordered a masala dosa and a paneer Manchurian dish. The masala dosa was actually good. The paneer manchurian was horrific, literally one of the worst dishes I've ever had. It was so sour (too much vinegar I assume), that the taste made it so difficult to eat. The amount of artificial red coloring used was prolific. The size of the dish was tiny, so small I think it shouldn't have costed anywhere near the price I paid. I called to complain, the person on the phone refused to accept what I told him. Instead he said the dish is great. He wanted me to apologize to him, so I did, isn't that amazing? I plan to never come back due to such arrogance with such a poor product. The hubby and I were heading to IKEA and wanted some Indian food, and luckily Dosa World was the first thing that popped up on YELP. We are used to the Indian buffets in Queens, so we were a bit flustered when we went up to the steam table to find nothing labeled and we also didn't realize it was all veggie (we were actually happy about this fact). Although there isn't a huge variety of items on the buffet line, like four hot curry/saucy items, two rices and two deep fried/pan fried dishes, everything that was served was incredibly tasty. Also they have a number of different condiments, chutneys and raita as well which made for a lot of delicious combinations. In our cluelessness, we also didn't realize that dosas are included in the buffet. Neither of us had ever had one so we just kind of looked blankly at our really nice server when he asked which one we would like. He gave us a few options and I opted for the masala since the hubby can't really handle anything overly herb or spice laden. It would be nice if they had a list of their dosa on a laminated card or something so you can look it over before ordering. After looking at the menu on their website, I would definitely order different dosa next time (yes, there will be a next time!). Great service, delicious food and a good price? Yep, will definitely be making a detour here on our visits to Long Island :D read more
