Finally found a vet that is compassionate and cares about your pets well being. We took our 8 year old rescued dachshund to get teeth extractions and a cleaning and it didn't cost us an arm and a leg! Reasonable pricing but most importantly amazing vets. It's owned by a couple, and they're both vets. Their care has been fair, but they are very abrupt, brash and rude far too often. The rudeness comes out of nowhere, and I've experienced it from BOTH, Dr Tom Dose and Dr Sharon Dose. One two occasions I asked why they were behaving this way to me for no reason, but they are quite oblivious to how they behave. I think they must communicate this way so much that it's normal to them. For questioning them and standing up for myself, they "punished" me by removing me as a client. As a previous business owner, I can say that they would not be employed very long anywhere, because they do not show professional courtesy to their "people" clients who PAY the bills! It's a good thing they have their own business and can run it the way they want. I think I'll return to my original vet who is further way from me because they know how to treat their customers. We have been using Drs. Dose for a few years and have been very pleased with their care and concern for our dogs. One of our dogs is a rescue dog, and came with serious problems. Both doctors took outstanding care of him through his surgeries and recovery. Our Lhasa had to be put down because lymphoma cancer had completely ruined his health. Doctor Tom explained the options and the possible consequences in a very calm and understanding manner, and we made the decision based on quality of life vs. suffering for our very loved dog. We can't possibly convey the sadness we experienced during the procedure, but Dr. Tom explained each step along the way and what was happening, as well as comforting us and our dog. We can't say enough about our appreciation and thanks to Dr. Tom for his treatment and caring for us as well as our dog. read more

I've been taking my dog to Dose's Pet Vets ever since I bought her as a puppy, approximately 7 months. In that time, I have had her vaccinated, assessed, and spayed by Dr. Sharon Dose. I believe that she is skilled in veterinary medicine, but I have never met someone so rude and condescending to customers in my entire life. After it was revealed that I was an RN, every time I went in for services for my dog, she was extremely rude to me. In fact, she made it a point to negate any information or questions that I might have, be condescending in her tone and words, and contradictory/confrontational in all of her associations with me. After 3-4 appointments and phone calls having to deal with this TOTALLY unprofessional behavior coming from a veterinarian, I am done. Today I finally called her on her lack of basic courtesy and civility towards me. I don't know about her husband since I was not given a chance to see him, but I would definitely not recommend taking your pets to this woman based on her lack of human decency. read more

If you make an appointment at Dose's Pet Vets make sure to ask specifically for Tom Dose. Sharon Dose is extremely agitated, judgmental, paranoid and not very friendly to the animals or people. I was there and she was rude to the person before me. i even heard her say that she just couldn't work on his dog anymore because other people were waiting. Come on, if the patient needs help right then and there - HELP! Then she gets a phone call about her printer not working and she spends 20 minutes trying to figure that out instead of treating the animals she should be helping. GET A RECEPTIONIST! Both Dr.s constantly answer the phone while clients and animals are in the rooms. They will stop in the middle of a check-up to answer questions from phone calls and to make appointments. So back to why I have moved to a better vet - The 4th visit in (2nd with Sharon Dose) and of course my kitty does not even like her. Sharon Dose can't even give her a simple vaccination shot! I've been to many vets and this is the first that is that incompetent. Dose's Pet Vets is not any less expensive than anywhere else, so if that is why people are saying go there - DON'T. I was referred to the Dr.'s Dose by a close friend 6 years ago when I moved to Reno. They are the most amazing vet's ever. First, the care my dog has received has been fantastic. My dog had a huge facial abscess removed under general anesthesia with surgical drains. I just knew it was going to be thousands of dollars. When I got the bill it was under $300. They are the most intelligent, amazing vets and I wouldn't take Stanley anywhere else. For the two recent bad reviews that I see here, they are both from young ladies that probably aren't used to adult tell it like it is communication. I'll take Sharon or Tom any day over run of the mill vets with high dollar costs associated with them. This you can depend on: outstanding vet care at the most unbelievable prices around. If you want "kiss your ass" care at high dollar cost, look somewhere else. Makes more time available for those of us who appreciate coming here. read more

've lived in many states and used many vets, even worked in a vet clinic. If you want doctors who have knowledge, experience and passion for your beloved pet and ARE NOT DRIVEN by the pharmaceutical industry and greed .....these vets are the real deal, short and sweet-i won't bore you with all of my great experiences with them. BUT I WILL POINT OUT THIS, I've heard a few comments about Mrs Dr. Dose being harsh or rude and i will tell you first hand she works too hard 7 days a week, Sundays being surgery days and that is a two person show running that clinic all to keep the cost reasonable so pet care can be affordable and the stress and burden must be enormous but that woman is passionate about the animals and that commitment is beautiful and my dog and i are lucky to call her our vet even when she does harshly have to remind me to monitor my dogs too long leash in the waiting room of other dogs or I'm not securing my dog properly while she's doing a rectal temperature which makes my dog snap at her and she really shouldn't have to even have to request of me. So anyone that gives them poor ratings for those reasons, shame on you for steering pet owners away for wrong reasons. I wish more medical practices could replicate Dr. Dose and Dr. Dose Pet Vet. read more

I've taken my small dog to Dose's, for ~4 years now. While you do have to make your appointment the day before you want the appointment, I have always been able to get one in my schedule preference. My dog has received wonderful care from the Dose's (dentals, bloodwork for a medical condition, vaccinations). I appreciate that they answer the phones, as they have helped identify that my dog didn't need a vet appointment when he ate a bunch of almonds. Yes, they will answer the phone when my dog is in their office, but it does not interfere with the work they get done. When I was in a pinch with a doggy daycare, they went out of their way to immediately fax over vaccination records. While Mr Dr Dose is more personable, I feel that Mrs Dr Dose gave excellent care during my dog's dental & showing me how to better brush my dog's teeth. Their prices are beyond fair & their care is excellent. read more

ok, wow. I just had both my pups 'fixed' on friday. Dr. Sharon performed the surgeries. BEAUTIFUL WORK. She also used laser therapy and the incisions are damn near healed and...its SATURDAY. the kids are up and around and doing so well! tiny little scars, unlike the type of work i have seen before. Dr. Tom Dose was very kind to my dog Tazz,and very thorough. i found him a to be a caring person. i was treated with respect and all my questions answered. I never met Dr.Sharon so I have no way of knowing if she has an award winning personality or bedside manor. I will say this,I'm a ranch raised Montana gal so I have dealt with more Vets than doctors in my life so trust me on this,Dr.Tom is a good Vet and you wont have to sell the north forty to give your pets the best care. He is the Vet I'm staying with. Would I let Dr.Sharon help my Tazz if needed,sure i would. No one has written one negative word about her ability to practice. I can't help but to disagree about Sharon Dose. We had to put down our dog last year and the compassion shown along with the calming nature of her words helped me get through a very difficult time. As for treatment, well ,, some will find her methods less than agreeable and maybe she lacks in some of the finer people skills. But never once have I seen her act in any other than a professional manner when it came to my animals.(2 cats, 4 dogs.) A lot of the negative feelings might be explained by her no nonsense approach rather than her skills as a vet. read more

Both Dr. Tom and Dr. Sharon are wonderful vets. They spend so much time with our dogs and explain everything they do in detail. They are so much cheaper than other vets in Reno. Today was my first vist. I called yesterday for a dental estimate and they gave me one over the phone without seeing him. I had been to my regular vet and couldn't afford their estimate. Dr Sharon got me in next day. She did my exam and explained everything to me and even showed me why she wouldn't extract some teeth my regular vet recommended. She gave me another estimate after seeing him adn it was just about the same as the phone one. I'm shocked at how much lower and reasonable they are. Plus he goes in tomorrow, on a Saturday for his dental. My boyfriends parents have been on me for years to go there. I'm so glad I finally took their advice. I found a new vet for my little dogs that is reasonable and with 2 great vets. read more

I cannot be happier that I found these vets or be more satisfied with their service. I recently adopted an older dog who had truly HORRIBLE teeth. After bringing him into Drs. Dose, I found out that many were rotten and infected. Their condition was so bad that the doctors weren't able to even fully examine his mouth due to the extreme discomfort the slightest touch would cause. They scheduled my pup for his tooth-extraction surgery the NEXT DAY, which was a SUNDAY. Both Tom and Sharon were unbelievably kind and thorough, calling me multiple times during the day with updates and spending ample time with me after the procedure. I could also tell by my dog's responses when I came to pick him up that he felt very comfortable and safe with them. I was also blown away by how reasonable their prices were. As other reviews have stated, Drs. Dose do not have any other staff, so they keep their overhead very low and ensure that only vets are handling your pets. My dog ended up having seven teeth extracted, as well as two growths on his eyelids. Even after they factored in the teeth cleaning, the anesthesia, the blood tests, and post-op meds, the bill was only a few hundred dollars instead of the $2000+ that I was expecting. I now live in Dayton and just adopted a cat and will make the trip to Reno for this pets services as I really like Tom that much and the prices are well worth the hour drive. I've never done a review before, but the Dose's are about as good, caring, informative and reasonable as it gets. They operate their business with a special system,: no office staff (they answer the phone themselves, which is exactly what you need), make next day appointments only, utilize computers for x-ray & records, have a modest location & office to keep costs low. Then, they pass on the savings to you--by being the most extremely fair priced vets I have ever been to, or heard of (and I know many people at Hidden Valley dog park who have used them before and praise them). To me, this can only mean they not only love what they do, but want us to become the best pet owners we can be. I used to have that conflict you get when you know something is wrong with your pet, but you are anticipating how much the bill will be. In three years, they have already saved me hundreds of dollars, taken my many phone calls and questions for at no charge. Now I can just worry about my pet, instead of what the bill will be. If you want to get quality care for your pet from experienced professionals who care about you and your pet, and prove it by being fair and caring about what they charge, they are the very best, and at any price. read more

In reference to Mrs Candace N. One star rating was uncalled for. We have used the Doses for over 14 years! Tom and Sharon are the best doctors out there! If you happened to come across a day when Sharon seemed agitated or sad you may not understand some of the issues they have to address daily! Maybe she had put an animal down or had to give sad news to someone and if she seemed rude to the person before you there was probably reason for it as some folks just don't comprehend. I can tell you that she is a stellar surgeon and was valedictorian in med school. She and Tom are dedicated to helping and saving our pets. A receptionist would be great but they keep a low overhead to help keep visits as affordable as possible. At no time do they ever put personal feelings before the safety and health of a patient. Over the years they have gone out far beyond expectations to help save our pets and keep them healthy. I will continue to recommend them to everyone. THE most Amaaaazing vets! Great prices!!! Husband and Wife Vet's There are a couple things that makes them different from other vet offices. *It is a small animal only vet, under 30 lbs cats and dogs *It is only the 2 of them working in their office; no vet techs or receptionists. This keeps prices down. As I read in some other reviews people may be annoyed by them answering their own phones during appointments. It doesn't bother me and I think it's worth it for the level of care and price. *Also, appointments are booked only 1 day ahead of time, i.e. call today before 1pm for appointment tomorrow. Again, cuts down on need for receptionist. I personally really like this method, others may not. *To address the reviews saying Dr. Sharon is rude. She is a kind but down to business kind of lady. I never felt she was rude or rushing in any way. Dr. Tom is extreeeeeeeeemely nice and bubbly, so maybe compared to him she seems a little blunt. But I dealt with her both times I've went in for my dog's teeth cleaning (she does surgical procedures) and she's been great and she is very kind and compassionate w/ my dog (even when he tried to snap at her). *They provide the full spectrum of veterinary needs; spay/neuter, shots, dental cleaning, etc. I took my 11 lb Chihuahua in initially for a full dental cleaning. I had been recommended because of the VERY affordable prices for teeth cleaning. Some vet's will charge $400+ dollars and that's without extractions!!! I was skeptical that anywhere would be significantly less, but I went anyway because my dog's breath had gotten too terrible too handle. It was my first visit, so there is a one-time only $40 First exam and first paper work fee. The cost of the cleaning can vary due to extractions and whether or not the teeth are loose already. My dogs front top and bottom 12 teeth were so loose they pulled them and didn't even charge for those teeth!!! That's unheard of! Baseline, cleanings cost $95- $105!! for dental scaling AND ANESTHESIA!! again unheard of! My dog got 16 teeth extracted and they only charged an additional $35!! Plus, antibiotics for 10 days and pain meds for about $24 more and that was it. For all that work, plus first time fees, I left only paying $195!! Wow!! I was fully expecting to have to pay $500+ dollars. I was soooo happy. I went back 8 months later, his breath was getting bad again. $105 for cleaning plus $75 pre-op blood work. This is optional but my dog is getting old so it's recommended. I won't do it next time because everything tested good. He didn't have any extractions so I only paid the $180 flat. No extra "visit fees", no upselling this product or that. Lastly, vaccinations are veeeeeery affordable. I went in today and saw Dr. Tom this time. For 3 year Parvo/distemper combo it was only $15 and for 3 yr rabies only $15. $30 for 3 yrs!! I also brought in a stool sample to be tested for parasites, that's $10. $40 total!!! Dr. Tom is a veeeeeery sweet guy and so compassionate. I know I'm talking a lot about price, but they could charge anything and most people would keep coming back just for his excellent care. Also, a small, kind thing they do is take the metal rabies tag and go in the back and engrave it with the pet's name and your phone number!! Those kind of things are so rare and show true caring and great service. Yes, the prices are truly amazing but the level of care you'll receive for your animals is just as amazing, as well as priceless. Hope this helps :D read more

I recently adopted a 6month old puppy and wanted to make sure he was healthy. I called and was able to get an appointment for the next afternoon which was great. When I arrived I was a little worried about the location ( I am new to Reno and don't know the good or bad parts of town yet and it was by an older motel 6) but where the office is located is pretty quiet and next to a yoga studio. I saw Mrs. Doctor Dose and she was very nice. She seems to like her job which is always a good sign. She answered all of my questions without it seeming like I was wasting her time and was extremely helpful. I was worried going in to the vet since this is my first dog but she made me feel comfortable and even offered advice on how to trim the hair around my dogs eyes and behind so that the he will stay cleaner. The whole visit was only $50! ($25 to start his records as a new patient and $25 for the office visit, I believe) I am very pleased with our visit and will be back again. read more

Dr. Dose was recommend by a friend as being a competent and affordable vet. We took in our senior cat and saw Mrs. Dose. We were seen immediately upon coming in and she was very thorough in her examination and took the time to explain everything she did. She answered all of our questions. We were with the vet for an hour and that is almost unheard for a vet or a people Dr! It's obvious that they are doing their job because they care about animals and their owners. They are very reasonable cost wise, especially if you are just needing an exam and not a lot of special testing but even the testing I'm sure is less than you be charged elsewhere. I've been charged triple just for the exam at other vets so that if you do need to something besides a basic exam it's hard to afford that and testing. I have gone to the other vets and had the bill come to almost as much as it did at Dr. Dose without all the testing they did! They also do not push any unneeded services. We were able to get the results back from our cats blood test the next day and Mrs. Dose called to let me know the results and took her time on the phone to see how he was doing and explain everything. I'm also a person that likes to know if A is the outcome, how will we proceed from here and if B is the outcome how will we proceed from there and she was very patient in explaining and going over possible future steps both in the office and on the phone. I would highly recommend this vet and I will not ever go to another now that I've found the best vet for our animals. read more
