Can here for some happy hour before my flight and I can say they did not disappoint, their prices were very cheap compared to the amount of food you're getting. Everything was served fresh and servers were quick and attentive.

Came to this kind of small place for sushi in Des Plaines downtown. Dotombori is one of the long time favorite around here. It's another one of those sushi restaurants that closes between lunch and dinner and has a few cheaper lunch specials. Has only a few tables inside. There's also seating at the counter where you can watch them make rolls. Anyone who wants something besides sushi can also find something to get. It has a pretty surprisingly big menu. There's a list of cocktails including many made with sake. Last time here at lunch it wasn't that busy. This place is pretty small so if there's only a few people in here it will seem busy though. For lunch we got the Rolls Combo. It's about $13 for a choice of two rolls. The Cucumber And Avocado is the only one we know of with no meat or seafood. Even so, it has good flavor. This may be kind of small, which is the other bad thing Has a good variety for those not wanting just sushi but also other Asian cuisine. It also has ramen and other noodles. The prices are pretty good on most things, and if you're bringing a big group it's good to call ahead because room is limited but there's usually been no problems getting enough seats or whatever.

The Catapiller was great. All the rolls I'll tried we're excellent! I highly recommend the little sushi spot.

The Catapiller was great. I also tried the dragon, white dragon, King Kong. Everything was excellent!

We returned here for the first time in 5 years and had a very enjoyable and delicious lunch stop.   They still have good value lunch specials and that is what we returned for.  The wife had their chicken katsu bento box for $14.95 and I had their bulgogi bento box for the same price.  We shared selected favorite portions with our older grand-darling.  She devoured a couple of shrimp tempura, green bean and pumpkin tempuras, and a portion of both of our main proteins. Our young Korean lady server was friendly and attentive and also proactive, bringing out a small plate for our young lunch mate.  We all left happy and satisfied.  I pass by this convenient corner restaurant often and we also often consider visiting and it was finally timely on this particular Friday.  In fact, our last outing was with this same threesome but they had a somewhat darker decor back then. I chatted with the Korean owner Stella who has been there 15 years now and I was very happy for her that she and the business survived the awful Covid era.   I learned that the place was remodeled just a year ago and is now bright and inviting with more colorful Asian decor.   Business has also picked up with the reopening of the renovated Des Plaines Theatre just right at the other end of the same block, and yaay on both counts.   There's usually easy street parking right out front, but also a free garage a block away.  We'll most certainly be back to support this local business!

The food was delicious. All of the fish tasted fresh. The service was quick and it didn't take long for our food to come out. It was very relaxing. If you're a sushi lover you'll enjoy this hidden gem.

Where do I start. Id like to go back even tomorrow if my schedule allowed it. They were able to accommodate a party of 8 quickly! The service was impeccable! The food was so delicious I forgot to take more pictures! The owner and the waitress were both so friendly. They were able to accommodate our kids and their meals to be served first and quickly since they were hangry. They even provided kid friendly plates and utensils. I truly appreciated this type of customer service. You really can't go wrong with any of their dishes. We tried their lunch specials along with other rolls and dishes on their regular menu. We loved their spicy tuna appetizer with house made chips! The salmon and hamachi Kama were both cooked so perfectly. The best fish I've had in a long time. Both were delicious, flakey and juicy. I'd definitely order both of these again! We also got three different rolls which were all delicious! One came out and was set on fire to heat up in the wrapped foil. What an experience! Definitely one of the best sushi restaurants in terms of quality of the rolls and fish served with amazing customer service! Look at the cuts of fish in my pictures! Can't wait to be back and hopefully soon!

Came here for the first time with my friends a couple of months ago and we really liked how authentic everything was. We have great service and we loved our food. I ordered a kamikaze roll (Spicy tuna, cucumber topped with tuna and spicy sauce), spicy tuna maki, and spicy salmon maki, and each were very flavorful and fresh. My friends and I came here for dinner, but I would definitely come back here for lunch, as well, because the lunch specials look very good. Honestly, the prices for everything are reasonable, especially for the quality of the fish and the other ingredients. One thing we didn't really like was the things they consider to be like crab rangoons called "Soft shell crab". They were not what I was expecting at all, and they basically looked like arancini balls in the Italian cuisine, but instead had crab meat and cream cheese inside. Nobody I went with was a fan, but maybe it's because it was not what we were expecting or what we had a taste for since we love crab rangoons, breading and all. We all also ordered a couple of mochi, and the green tea one was delicious. Next time I want to try the coffee one because I never had coffee mochi. The mochi is also cut in fours with cute little umbrella toothpicks attached. Cute aesthetic. The restaurant itself is pretty small and intimate, and we were sat towards the back of the restaurant on the other side of a room divider. Each table is divided by a small divider, but we were separated with a very tall one (taller than the others) so that made us a little uncomfortable, especially since the place wasn't busy when we came. Overall, I would come here again, especially since one of my friends lives down the street from here, but it's not my first choice.

I've had a really great experience both times I've been here. It is located at the corner of the block so parking is easy. You can park on Miner or on the side street. The staff is very friendly. We had both kids with us and they were very accommodating and even playful with them. They served my toddler water in a kid friendly cup and brought a kid friendly bowl for us to put the soup in for him. The food is quite delicious. This is one of the better Japanese restaurants I've been to in regards to food quality. The environment is fairly standard for a Japanese restaurant. They have these cute lanterns above each table which allow for a nice aesthetic. We ordered the Crazy Boy, Rainbow Dragon, and spicy salmon roll. Also, we ordered nabejaki noodle. All we're delicious.

And so it goes.. Parking in this small strip mall is usually pretty easy. It is a popular choice for lunch for many people that work in this business area of Elk Grove. They don't rush you, but you won't have to wait long for both the food and the check. Today I did have my delicious bento box, which as others have agreed, is a great deal for lunch. If you're looking for the most authentic Japanese food outside the city, seems like this and a couple other places are all in the Schaumburg/Elk Grove Village area. Highly recommend hitting their lunch menu if you can because the bento box values are so worth it for authentic Japanese food/sushi. We got there at opening for dinner on a Saturday and got there just before dinner rush! This place is such a hidden authentic gem - you can tell from the decor to the choice of seating design to the actual menu and way they cook the RICE and other dishes. They serve the same grain for sushi as they do regular rice (Tamaki gold). Quality is not skipped here. We got the agedashi tofu (must get appetizer, as it's hard to really every achieve at home cooking), house special curry katsu, the beef kurumaya gozen (bento box) (which has incredible tempura, juicy soft beef), and assorted sashimi platter (I forget the name). All come highly recommended and were well worth the price point. I am just a bit sensitive about the freshness of the sushi, but I think this is probably as fresh as you can possibly get with generous cuts outside the city. Everything down to the miso soup too was delicious - best place to take your friends/family/coworkers for an authentic Japanese meal. Parking lot available out front. Recommend also stopping by Tensuke market nearby after!

This is a small joint, and it was already half full by the time we ordered, then sat down (they told us the table at which to sit). I didn't know, but asked, and found out that a salad bar and miso soup are also included. The salad bar was pretty decent, with fresh vegs. They even had French fried onions (my guilty pleasure) and a very good House dressing (ginger vinaigrette). The portions are enormous. The couple next to us got ramen, and it was practically overflowing. We ordered takoyaki (too much food, we didn't need). I had the Pork Katsu bowl and my companion had a Katsu curry. I wished I had ordered the curry -- it looked dark and rich and thick like pudding (not like a boxed curry). They also gave us a bonus piece of chicken karaage which was so large and crispy. I think I'll get the curry next time, or the ramen. We originally came because we were going to get a karaage sando, but get the curry.

We were amazed to see how many servers they had working that evening when we arrived 7:30 pm without a reservation. There were probably six open tables and within half an hour the place was completely packed so they had staffed up well with five servers for maybe 15 tables. We enjoyed the ike karaage which is octopus tentacles. They call them squid on the menu, but squid tentacles are much smaller than that. They were crispy on the outside and tender inside. The dipping sauce was super light and fluffy maybe with a tiny bit of lemon and miso and it complemented the karaage very well. We also had the blistered shishito peppers which were dusted with ground red pepper and came with a soy base dipping sauce and a lemon. We thought maybe they would be good with the miso lemon aïoli, but actually they were much better dipped in the soy sauce mixture. My entree was the sashimi salad, which really had an enormous amount of fish. All I could see was tuna and salmon chunks (probably leftovers that could not be used in sushi because of their shape) with a nice mixture of greens and tobiko. It was lightly dressed with a soy, ginger and sesame vinaigrette and very tasty. My husband had the hama chili roll and it was very light but flavorful. They have a separate dining hall with plenty of long tables and seating, plus a free-refill miso soup station and a water station for convenience. Pricing here is noticeably lower compared to Hmart. The udon noodle soup is a family favorite, especially for our kids and moms. At Hmart, a bowl of this would run about $15-16 but here for $12.50, you get a generous bowl plus a side like two egg rolls or gyoza, and a small miso soup bowl with seaweed and tofu (you can refill the miso soup at the station). If you skip the side, you save about $1. The Godzilla roll is also a great deal--eight large pieces for about $14. My oldest loved it and was completely full from the sushi. They also offer poke bowls and chicken teriyaki rice plates, which my husband ordered during our visit. My only gripe is that many of the dishes tend to be on the salty side--they could definitely tone that down. Our udon broth tasted good, but we ended up adding some water to dilute it. They also offer discounted cooked hot and cold items--sometimes 30% to 50% off--after the dinner rush (probably after 7 PM). I picked up a large container kimchi pork soup to go for under $5 but it was also quite salty so I took most of it home, added more water and it was perfect as leftovers next day. Ordering is simple: you select your items and pay at a kiosk, enter your buzzer number, and it will vibrate when your food is ready for pickup at the counter. Eating inside a grocery store has its perks--you can grab extra snacks or drinks to customize your meal, and then browse the store afterward. Our moms and kids always enjoy coming here with us--it's definitely more fun for them than a typical grocery run. Overall, prices are reasonable and they run good deals. It's smaller than H Mart, so there are fewer options, but if you prefer a less crowded and more relaxed environment, you might actually like Tensuke better.
