This place is my weekend breakfast secret weapon. Matt and I have a thing for breakfast diners, and although we had been to several in our area we didn't have a real favorite. All of that changed the day we decided to try Dots. The atmosphere here has that classic 1950's diner feel, which I love. This location is nice and cozy, offering a few booths, standard tables and some countertop seating. We prefer to sit at a booth, but if one isn't available we just set up shop at the counter with a few coffees until one opens up. The food is prepared in an open kitchen area behind the counter, so you get to see and smell all the amazing things they're cooking as you peruse the menu. The menu is large, and easily offers something for everyone- even that 'picky eater' in the family. I haven't tried too many items on the menu, because to be completely honest I have a favorite go-to item that I can't not get when I go to Dots and that item is the B9. It is easily the most delicious chicken fried steak I have ever eaten, covered in white country gravy and served up next to a side of eggs, hashbrowns and a biscuit. Matt usually gets the dinner version, which comes with mashed potatoes or french fries, a side salad, a vegetable and garlic bread. I love that you can substitute anything on your plate without it being a huge issue; sometimes Matt will get a biscuit instead of garlic bread or I will get fries instead of hashbrowns. Matt has also gotten the Philly cheese steak sandwich, and it is definitely one of the best in the Metairie area. Also, the biscuits here ARE LIFE. I have never ever ever Ever had a better biscuit in my life. TBH, I think you could justify going to Dots just for the biscuits alone. Get them. Last, but certainly not least, is the service. From our first visit to our most recent visit the service here is always amazing. The ladies here are some of the friendliest servers and definitley make this place feel like coming home. If you visit often enough, they get to know you and you really do become part of the family. I can't speak about their other locations, but I can attest that Dots on Williams is THE breakfast spot to visit if you're in the Metairie/Kenner area! read more

As others have stated, the customer service needs a reboot. From the moment we walked in, the waitress gave us the stink eye. Toast was burnt without butter, and the bacon was over cooked. We never were asked if we needed anything else other than one refill on my husband's coffee. Tip: if you want iced coffee, don't order it here. It's merely hot coffee poured in a Styrofoam cup with ice in it. Seriously that's it! Since no one came to ask how our food was, my husband walked up to the counter to ask for butter. The waitress said she would bring it around, and when she did she handed him the packets and pointed to what looked like a mustard container, and told us that was the butter. How we were supposed to know, was beyond me. The place gradually became packed, so I am going to assume that many of the locals like it, as they were warmly greeted when they walked in. Let me first say that I'm a die hard Waffle House fan...but somebody else has won me over. This was my first time ever at a Dot's Diner and I'm so happy we stopped in. The service was so awesome...we truly felt right at home. I ordered a western omelet, no ham. It came out hot and fresh. My side was grits and although they needed a bit of salt, they were very good. From the exterior, the restaurant looked cute. I associated it with a diner that you would see off of an old American film. I pictured a sweet old waitress serving me apple pie a la mode. Btw they ran out of ice cream at Dots so... there goes my dream. Oh well. I guess I walked into the diner with too high of expectations. The interior looked, without a better way of putting it, dirty and old. The waitress that served us wasn't particularly rude, but she didn't give us a smile either. It seemed as though she was there to do her job, not to enjoy it. Now to the food. We ordered meat pies as appetizers. They came out fairly quickly with the wait was less than ten minutes. The meat pies were tiny, fun-sized. But it was an appetizer, so I wasn't expecting a huge portion. There were six of them and they were served on a bed of lettuce with containers of ranch sauce on the side. As far as the lettuce goes, it pathetic attempt as sprucing up the presentation. The filling of the meat pie reminded me of a cheeseburger. Wasn't good, but wasn't bad. I ordered the roast beef and gravy on a bun. The bun was grilled and the roast beef was great. It was extremely messy, but hey, I wasn't complaining. After struggling with my sandwich, I finally resorted to using a knife and fork. This just goes to show how packed the sandwich was; again, not complaining one bit. I really actually enjoyed my entree. For desert we ordered the strawberries and cream pancakes. The pancakes themselves were good. They had this eggy taste and this fluffiness to them that I found delightful. I do have a few complaints though. They did not let the pancakes cool down enough before putting the whipped cream on it, causing the cream to melt. Also, the strawberries were warm. They probably meant for the strawberries to be heated, but it didn't help with the melting whipped cream situation. As far as price goes, it was moderate. For a lunch that consisted of an appetizer, two entrees, and an order of pancakes, the total was around $25. I also gave $5 as a tip so lunch costed just about $30. Not that bad. Am I willing to return to this place? Hmm.... I don't think so. I didn't hate my experience there, but I didn't love it either. I found Dot's Diner in Kenner to be one of the better diners in the Greater New Orleans Area. They have an awesome selection of appetizers, breakfast foods, sandwiches, and milk shakes. Make sure if you don't want to wait for a table on a weekend that you get there early. I went with 3 other people on a Sunday morning and the place was packed at 10 AM. We were lucky and snagged a booth before they cleaned it so we didn't have that long of a wait. On my last visit, I got the waffle breakfast with a side of ham and an additional biscuit with sawmill gravy. Overall, it was very tasty. The waffle was crispy without being dry. The ham was grilled sufficiently, and the biscuit with gravy was just how I wanted it. The service can be a little slow, especially if it is packed but the servers there are aiming to please, have smiles on their faces, and are always refilling my coffee cup. We have had Ms Kathy the last two times we have gone there and she is a hoot. I have gone to a lot of Dot's Diner locations throughout the city and this one is most definitely my favorite. read more

I worked in restaurants for years in both back and front of house. So I'm usually pretty easy going about waiting around for food, and super forgiving of staff. Even when service is less than stellar, I'm a 20%+ tipper - even for to go orders. This especially applies to the current time, when I know restaurants are understaffed. Also, not much of a Yelp review writer. This is literally my second. And the other was just to help out a nice tow truck dude. But my experience here was completely unacceptable. So much so that I left nothing extra on the check for the first time in god knows how long. I sat at the counter for about 15-20 minutes staring at my food, bagged up and ready to go. By the time I got back home I had containers full of food that was lukewarm at best, cold and soggy at worst. And it didn't have to be. Like, all the heat that was in there went to warping the plasticware that came with the order. Now, part of that is on me for not speaking up. But in situations like these I try to give the benefit of the doubt to staff, and I didn't know it was my food until they rung me up. And I would get it if new dine-in people were flooding through the doors, and they were super busy seating people, taking orders, getting drinks, etc. But they weren't. FOH staff was more concerned about cleaning their tables than ringing up the ONE to-go order sitting on the counter. Again, for like 15-20 minutes. I was thinking about leaving two stars because they took my order quickly, I was asked multiple times if I wanted a refill on my coffee, and the cooks were absolutely killing it back there, but I just can't. This was a waste of $30. Just gonna go to Waffle House next time. Or even IHOP for Christ's sake. read more

Wow. What a great way to start the day. Stop by and have breakfast. The hotel I was staying at didn't have a complimentary breakfast and I was not interested in the "hotel paid for" breakfast options, not to mention their prices. Dot's was 5 minutes around the corner and I ate breakfast here the rest of the week. The omelet's are amazing! I had them a couple times. Finally, I was thinking of hash browns, mixed with eggs & ham. What to my surprise, it's a menu item! Sweet. I order the "All the Way" hash browns and was very happy. We decided that on our way out of town we'd stop for lunch. I ended up having a salad (to many other high calorie choices this week), but this was a great way to end my week.
