They serve some interesting dishes here I am sure are a hit among the masses--spam and taro fries, cocktails in kool-aid pouches, etc. My friends and I LOVE the seafood crispy noodles here. It comes with a generous serving of various seafood and I love the crispiness of the noodles. During our most recent visit, we also tried the siracha honey chicken. The sauce was tasty and the chicken was cooked so that it was tender in the inside, and a bit crispy on the outside--just the way I enjoy it. I would definitely order this dish again next time I am here. To top our meal, my friend and I ordered bubble tea, which I was overall satisfied with. Special shout out to our waitress who went out of her way to ask the bakery next door if they had lychee jelly for my drink. Service here can be sort of a hit or miss, so really appreciate how our waitress went above and beyond to meet a customer's needs. All in all, my friends and I can always count on Double Chin for a satisfactory experience. You are guaranteed good food and prices that won't make your wallet cry, but don't expect a spotlessly clean restaurant or the best service (though I must say the cleanliness of the restaurant has improved throughout the years and I do see their attempt at making the place more aesthetically pleasing). My favourite so far has been the baked porteguese rice with chicken. Ordered it twice and still love it! It's got gooey cheese and reminds me of HK/Macau style food! Mixed feelings about this place. The waitress recommend this Portuguese chicken rice since this is customer favorite. While I did enjoy the savoriness of the cheese, chicken, and curry, to be frank I think I was mostly turned off by... the bathroom. The bathroom was kind of dirty, and there was a fly trap right next to the sink--with many flies just sitting there in the trap. Because this was pre-covid I am not sure if you can eat inside or what precautions they are taking. Scallion Pancake: Very crispy and flavorful. The dipping sauce went well with the pancake. Portuguese Pork Rice: Huge pieces of pork covered in a delicious cream sauce on top of a bed of rice. If you enjoy sauces rice I recommend trying one of these because it's delicious and the portion is huge! Kimchi Alfredo: The pasta was creamy and very flavorful. Though it mostly tasted of kimchi and I didn't taste any of the alfredo aspect or the cheesy ness. Still tasted good but not what I was expecting from the name. I would only recommend this if you love kimchi because it is very strong in flavor. Cheese rice cakes: The rice cakes were well cooked and the sauce was not too spicy. I found the sauce tasted like it had tomato sauce in it so with the addition of cheese it tasted almost like pizza. If you are into that then order but if you are expecting a more traditional korean rice cake you might be thrown off. Honey Cube Ice Cream: This dessert is delicious. As someone who doesn't love honey, even I love this dessert! It's stuffed with ice cream and pocky and is surrounded by lots of other toppings on the plate. The Hoisin sauce on the fries was too overwhelming in flavor. While I did not expect much duck, the amount was really lacking. The double chin wings were too sweet for my liking. The kimchi alfredo was surprisingly pretty good and filling. The cube toast was alright; it is a good way to end your meal with something sweet. The drinks were sweet, mainly consisting of juice. I recommend this place for their creative fusion dishes but do be careful as I have had bad dishes from them. Their Cantonese dishes such as beef chow fun and seafood noodle soup w/ soft shell crab usually taste good but are overpriced for the quantity you get compared to other spots in Chinatown. Though they were quite messy to eat, I was happy to grab them with my hands and devour them. Lobster Mac and Cheese (take out) - For $15, I wanted to give this a try and see if I'll be delighted or disappointed. I was not disappointed. Definitely could use bit more lobster but you still get one bite either big piece or tiny piece with each forkful. The noodles were done perfectly! Soft and sticky, the wide rice noodles were lightly flavored so didn't overpower the taste of the lobster chunks. Been coming here for a long time now and it never really disappoints... but that may be because I come here almost solely for the skillet mac n cheese. The dish is such a creative way to use haw fun/flat rice noodle and even my parents liked it a lot when they visited me in Boston! Some of my other favorite dishes are the "Poutine" your mouth, salt and pepper wings, kimchi alfredo with pork belly, dried scallop egg fried rice, and Portuguese pork chop rice. Their cube toast is good too but it's more toast than anything else, and extremely filling. Even though this place does extremely IG-worthy and tasty, creative foods, they also do the standard HK dishes well. For the most part, the waiters/waitresses have been very nice and service is good. They ran out of red bean, and the waiter kindly offered fruit, but I wish they would have told us prior (around when we ordered or before they started making the shaved ice) because it personally would have impacted how I would have wanted to order. For the matcha made in heaven, the matcha flavor on the shaved ice was extremely... underwhelming. It honestly tasted very obviously as though it was ice with a very faint hint of matcha flavor, which was quite disappointing. I would give 3.5 stars. Double Chin is THE place to go after the clubs and night life closes in Boston. Food I've tried: - The menu is quite extensive, and there a surprising number of fusion foods. I do appreciate their creativity in their menu! - WATERMELON BOMBER ($34): a classic scorpion bowl served in a watermelon. The alcohol is deceptively hidden in the sweetness of the drink, so proceed with caution. Overall, not to sweet and quite refreshing. - SKILLET LOBSTER "MAC" N CHEESE ($16): the cheese is pretty thick and gooey. I didn't really taste the lobster part too much. Flavor wise is pretty standard for mac n cheese. - SCALLION PANCAKE ($8): it is crispy, with enough thickness to have the chewiness. It tastes like a standard scallion pancake. - STIR FRIED SHIN RAMEN ($11): I liked the presentation of having the ramen cup come with the dish. Flavor wise, it is exactly as advertised, shin ramen stir fried with veggies. I did appreciate that the veggies were not overly cooked and they retained their crunchiness. - WOK CHARRED GARLICKY BOK CHOY ($10): you can never go wrong with bok choy. From the cute and punny names of food items ("Crab Me Benny One More Time" soft-shell crab Benedict, "Double Chinwich" hoisin beef sandwiched between two scallion pancakes), to each entree rated in terms of "Instagrammability", I can't help but appreciate the attention to detail and the curated nature of each aspect of this restaurant! Located conveniently in the heart of Chinatown, Double Chin pays homage to cafes in Hong Kong. I have on good authority from friends who I have brought who have been to the real deal, and they say that Double Chin is doing a good job as far as that goes. The cafe is decorated in pastel colors, with ample seating and board games on shelves to play as you wait for your food. I can't tell you how many times my friends and I have gotten into an intense Jenga game just as the food was about to arrive! They are also open until 4 AM (!!!) on Thursday-Saturday nights, which is an anomaly for Boston, and even more of an anomaly to be able to eat high quality food from a restaurant that late at night. Double Chin at 2 AM is the place to be on a Saturday night! I'm always there with my Rocky Horror castmates still in full makeup, chowing down on a plate of dumplings! While I have tried many items on the menu, and could wax poetical about all of them, I'll give you my top three "Certified Morganic" favorites! The restaurant was modeled to look like the restaurant owner's childhood home. Last night I needed something quick and was craving Chinese food and everything in Chinatown was closed besides this place. I ordered the lobster fried rice and added shrimp. I got home ready to chow down and the rice looked and tasted bland and flavorless. I did not see any lobster meat in the rice either. The rice had a strange taste that I could not put my finger but I've never had lobster/shrimp fried rice that tasted like that before. It addition to the strange taste, the rice tasted like it was mixed with dirt. It was very gritty and sandy. I couldn't eat the rest of it and I ended up tossing it. My sister had a similar dish and did not like her food so I definitely would not recommend this place. read more

This is such a cute diner! Chinatown has added so many great eateries and dessert shops since I was last here more than 10 years ago for college. My sister recommended this place due to the "instagrammable" food, and for sure, the menu depicted clearly which dishes were photo-worthy (wow, I am dating myself!). We tried the waffle fries, pan fried beef noodles, and farm fresh veggies. My fav was the waffle fries, which was topped with kimchi bits, and added a nice kick of flavor. The pan fried noodles were pretty standard - can def taste the pan fried oil, just like how my parents used to make it! The only regret is that we added gravy on top, which made the dish soggy, so I definitely learned from that. The farm fresh veggies was not special in any way, but had a good strong garlic flavor. The service was also very quick! All in all, would recommend and would love to come back to try the desserts (looks so cute in the pictures)! read more

Always a solid place to go to get eccentric food that combines American style dishes with Asian classics. Came here on a weekday night with a friend and had no wait! Food: We got the crispy seafood noodles and the wonton noodle soup. The wonton soup was a bit plain and didn't have much salt but was refreshing in contrast to the salty and savory crispy noodles! I definitely liked the seafood noodles better due to texture and the flavor. Service: Food came super quickly and we got served quickly! Ambiance: Extremely casual place! The food and drinks were so delicious here and such a great price! I highly recommend the ginger scallion yakisoba ramen and the corn elote skillet rice! Two different flavor profiles but both incredibly delicious! The drinks are big enough for 2-4 people to share and very freshly made. Really great value for what you're paying, it's great for a late night snack.
