I'd say it's more 3.5 stars than 3. I only came with some friends to try the desserts though so I cant give a full opinion. It's a small place in chinatown that doesnt seem very assuming but they have a lot of dessert options you cant usually get elsewhere like salted egg yolks french toast (not bad but nothing special. Didnt taste much different than normal French toast if I'm being honest). Shaved ice was typical like any other shaved ice place. And the giant cube toast was very impressive visually and great to brag to your friends online for instagram or something, but it's nothing special. Just like a hodge podge of desserts thrown on a plate in a somewhat esthetic manner. Again I cant give a full review because I've only tried the desserts. My dearest friends treated me to a birthday dinner and my only regret is not having taken photos of the food! Poutine Your Mouth, Skillet Mac n Cheese, and Sriracha honey Chicken are just to die for here. We all split a watermelon soju - it was super tasty much like the food. Their menu is so extensive, I will definitely be coming back for to try out more! We enjoyed the meal so much we didn't save enough room for dessert; each of us want to come back and try the cube toast and all their unique and tasty-looking sweets! Pretty much my go-to when I'm looking for somewhere fun in Chinatown to go eat with friends. I really like how creative the food can get - especially with their desserts (Cube toast!). I feel like this is also a pretty good starter restaurant for people not very familiar with Asian cuisine, but want to get way past the Americanized takeout. Although they have a large menu of food (lunch , brunch and dinner) we came just for dessert -the famous "It's Mah Birthday cube Toast".. it is so very good and a great table share. Four of us ate 1 along with a Peach Princess (Shaved ice with peach flavoring, fresh peaches and ice cream on top). We got the Princess Peach first (dessert appetizer?? ) it is all soft shaved ice with a wonderful peach flavor surrounded by fresh peaches and strawberries topped with ice cream. AMAZING!! The Cube Toast came out with candles blazing topped with 3 macaroons, 3 scoops of ice cream (you get to chose your 3 ice cream flavors from a choice of 5.) All the textures and flavors are perfection. They have a bakery next door that's worth a visit to take home . I grabbed a loaf of coconut bread to make French toast for breakfast . Such a fun place . I'm giving Double Chin only 3 stars because it's a place that I would only go once for the experience. It has a very hip interior, equally hip food, and attracts a lot of younger kids like high school students, college students, and recent grads. I came with a large group of friends and it was fun and chill place to hang out. They have a variety of "cool" entrees that I recommend like cola chicken, and spam and taro fries. Cola chicken actually tastes like Coca Cola... but in a good way! I also didn't expect to like spam and taro fries so much, but they're great. We also got the green tea ice cream toast for dessert and it's like an explosion of fruits, cereal, ice cream and toast. It was good, but come prepared to share it with at least 4 other people and don't expect to finish it. After a while, the toast gets soggy because it's impossible to finish the toast, and then you don't want to eat it anymore. As far as pricing goes, I paid about $11 to get 75% full. Overall, I'd probably come back just to get one or two items that are "novelty" but there isn't a strong pull. read more

I am blown away by this restaurant. Advertised as a Hong Kong style cuisine, it is very unique and I am just blown away by the mastermind of the creator. The menu items are so outside the box thinking and just sound amazing. Example: take the regular everyday scallion pancakes and make that into a sandwich. Or macaroons and turn that into a ice cream sandwich. Who would have thought of that? Talk about executing on a million dollar idea! The hard part was honestly deciding what to order because I wanted to order everything because it looked and sounded that good. I eventually decided on the Peking Duck Fries and XO Sauce Seafood Noodles dish. Highly recommended, Instagramable has they highly encourage on their menus (unfortunately I didn't take any photos), and most importantly, delicious and filling. I've tried double chin about 4-5 times and it's usually a hit or miss for me. For example I gotten the credit seafood pasta two weeks ago and thought it was amazing but I went last night and got the same thing and it was super bland, and the noodles were hard :( I think the salt and pepper wings are my favorite. I do wish that their dishes were more consistent because it sucks to crave for something and it doesn't come out the way you want. I do try to get different items on the menu to see what works for me more. Their menu is HUGE. And i love the creativity and how certain things are IG worthy and etc. such a hip place to be at. They serve everything from food to crazy dessert and fun drinks. They're also connect to bao bao bakery!! Because the menu is soo big it gets a little overwhelming trying to pick just a couple things so I do end up over ordering most of the time. There's pictures so it does help with the process haha Desserts are pretty awesome. But definitely share it bc it's a lot! I'm still trying out more things to see what I like the most. Rec's: ++Tomato pork chop rice ++Portuguese pork spaghetti Both have lasagna like-cheese on either a bed of rice or spaghetti. While the combo may sound strange, when paired with pork it's fantastic. All of Double Chin's entrees are generous portion wise, 1 dish is enough for 2. ++Scrambled egg n' beef rice- it's a must for egg fans. The cornstarch like sauce the scrambled egg is mixed in gives the impression you're eating runny half cooked eggs with every bite. ++Cola wings: Addicting. Adds a nice sweet taste to their tender, hot wings. Rarely available though, we've only been able to order it once out of multiple times we've been here. Pretty good dessert (can't comment on the regular food, but definitely want to try), but terrible service. They have fun, creative menu options. Their dessert is AMAZING. Get the cubed toast, it's so worth the $$ and sugar coma. This is the only place in Boston where I've enjoyed a shaved ice. The service here though, can be meh or bad, but when it's bad, it's BAD. My sister who often comes here with her friends has experienced waiters who don't give them menus, serves food with no utensils, gives them the wrong number of utensils (what?), and brings a single glass of water for a table full of people (double what?). They are nice, but common sense seems to be lacking here. Every time I've gone here, I also end up waiting FOREVER for someone to bring a check. Part of an eating experience includes the service you get, and this place falls flat on that. Will probably keep coming back though because I can't control my sweet tooth :) read more

This place serves some very interesting food - I would consider this more of a fast food joint than anything else. While my craving for greasy, savory comfort food was sufficiently satisfied, I would probably not come back because the quality was definitely not up to par with most other places I've frequented in Chinatown. The price is pretty inexpensive (but it's not that different from other places in Chinatown), and the portion size was humongous (I normally finish my plate, but I actually couldn't with this restaurant - maybe it was the sheer amount of grease?), which I liked (took home my leftovers for lunch the next day). While the appetizers seemed really interesting and potentially appetizing, I was slightly disappointed with the dessert we ordered - I could tell the quality wasn't that good, and the matcha/ovaltine dip tasted like nothing other than pure syrup (we ordered the "I Want My Baby Bao"). My Har Mon Rice Noodles were okay - a little bland despite the grease. The only consolation was our poutine; I've never tried authentic Canadian poutine, but I really enjoyed this rendition. I was so excited to try this new restaurant, since I am a big fan of Hong Kong style cafes. They were pretty busy for lunch. Note that this is only their third day after opening. The service was slow and the food was slow to come out, but we didn't mind since we were not in a rush; also since this was only their third day, I assume they don't have all their kinks worked out. The food was good, however I think they need to do some work to make it "great". We had the French toast. The peanut butter was too strong, it would have been better if they went lighter on the peanut butter and a little more condensed milk. The hot HK style milk tea wasn't even warm. The scallion pancake was excellent and the seafood noodles were also very good. The Portuguese style rice was ok. I told the waiter/host that the tea was cold - he seemed very frazzled and seemed to say it was very busy, and then just moved on. No apology, no credit, no hot tea offered as a replacement. I offer this feedback so that the owners can make some improvements. They have a great concept and the place is super cute. Once they improve the customer service and work out the kinks in some of their dishes - they have the ingredients for a great hangout in line with their concept. Good luck to them! read more

Hmmm, what to say about Double Chin... as you can see from the 2-star review, I wasn't very impressed. I came here based on a recommendation from a friend, sadly my high hopes were not met. The service is terrible. We had to call over the wait staff whenever we wanted anything (ordering, drinks, the check, etc). The food was not the best and I was not a fan of the milk tea. I don't even know where to start with this place. It is so cute and everyone that works there is so friendly. We came here for my birthday and tried a bunch of different things. Everything came out really fast. The Poutine your Mouth was amazing.the cheese sauce with the other toppings worked so well. My daughter loved the fish and chips and my niece's favorite were the dumplings which I didn't take a picture of because we ate them all too fast. We also had one of their gigantic desserts. It was delicious but definitely something you need to share. I was speaking to one of the employees and the fact that it was my birthday came up and when they brought us the bill, they gave me a free slice of cake and a macaron! Let me start of by saying I was impressed because my super picky, allergic to a lot of things, best friend found 4 things off the menu that she knew she could eat. That was impressive by itself. That aside, I will say the food is actually very very good. We were a table of 7 and tried a huge variety of food. Everything either looked so good (if they didn't share) or tasted amazing. Crab Rangoon, Double Chin wings, wanton soup, etc. it all met or exceeded my expectations. One tiny quibble I had was that it took 30 mins + before we saw anyone to get our bill. Food came out super fast and everyone was satisfied, but then when we were itching to leave we were left looking around for someone. I had previously wrote a review that was very on the harsh side. Honestly, double chin has definitely improved over the course of time. Service has gotten better than when they first opened. This is definitely my first choice for post clubbing food. Skillet Mac and cheese and the fish balls are to dieeeeee for. I'm currently enjoying the kimchee Alfredo for lunch. I enjoy it very much because it's not as heavy as regular Alfredo and the pork belly is very good and not too overwhelming as well. And it's never too late to start drinking. If you order anything expensive or requires more steps to cooking than "throw it in the fryer", it's probably not gonna be good. Highly recommend the watermelon bomber, which is HUGE and DELICIOUS and can probably kill you if you actually attempt it with two people. We had 5, and it was enough to get us all somewhat tipsy. On my second visit, a friend and I got the pineapple drink which was much much smaller. Note: the spiked boba drink is Very Strong - they fill it up to the halfway point with sake. Double Chin is located in the midst of Chinatown. Depending on the time you go, this location can be very busy or very empty. For me, this spot is a hit or miss. While the food was okay, especially the mapo tofu, which was the best part of the meal. Everything else is a little mixed. There's a trend of that "Asian Fusion" that has become more and more popular. Giving the classic dishes new life by making them more appealing to modern culture. It may work for some people, but I'll choose to keep the classic dishes. I would recommend to anyone that needs a casual eats place to go, but look into the menu first and see if it appeals to you before going. Still a good, but not bad place to go to. read more

The menu has a little icon next to every dish that indicates spiciness, whether it was vegetarian or not, and which dishes were the most insta-worthy. This is 2018. They have giant variations of a fishbowl drink. My sister and I split a fish "tank" which looked kinda divey and gross, but the flavor was fun and def got us a bit tipsy. It comes with gummy candies but they were kinda difficult to access, by virtue of straws not being the best "fishing rods." In terms of food, we shared a stir-fry dish and a donut. The stirfry was presented playfully, with an instant noodle container adjacent on the plate spilling the noodles out. V cute! The flavor was also good enough. The donut was kinda boring. Great place to come if you're just looking for some fun - you can play soju roulette! Have drinks in a fish tank or pineapple! Have an entire cube of bread as a birthday dessert! - but is more lackluster if you're looking for food that tastes homemade and hits the spot. I'm just going to get straight to the point. I am traumatized by what I tasted the other night. I ordered the "Portuguese Chicken Rice" thru UberEats. The presentation was fine, the temperature was fine. The first bite was ok - a little bland. No actually, it was straight up bland! So I had to add plenty of salt to it. And the "chicken"... I have never tasted chicken this vile. It was brown and rubbery and had a metal aftertaste, letting me know it's from a can. And it wasn't canned chicken breast. It's all the discarded parts. I can't get the taste out of my head! And the cheese on top adds absolutely nothing to the dish. Not quite sure why it's even there. I have a friend who is dying to try this place so I may give them one more try with him and just try something fried. Hopefully they can't mess that up. read more
