Small town feel and service! We were staying at the local casino hotel recently and decided to skip the hotel food and find something local. Double D had solid reviews and was very close by so we gave it a shot. All in all, we were pleased with our choice. We couldn't get a dinner reservation in the restaurant so we sat in the bar. Our server was personable and efficient. Since we were in bar, the ambience was somewhere between biker bar and local watering hole. The server explained that they include a small antipasto, 3 cheese ravioli, bread and soup and salad with all the dinners. We kept that in mind and didn't order appetizers. I'm glad we didn't, since we had way too much food. We decided to split a 16 oz ribeye and added grilled prawns. The steak came with a choice of baker, fries, mac and cheese or tots. We had steak fries and added a side of mac and cheese. The house bread is baked fresh. The soup was chicken noodle, obviously homemade and nicely seasoned. I loved the champagne vinaigrette. We ordered our steak medium rare. It came out pretty much raw. However that was quickly corrected and our steak was delicious. The shrimp were juicy and perfectly cooked. All in all a great meal. I don't know what has happened here but the last 3 times I've ate here has been worse every time. Over priced and don't know how to cook. Ordered 16 oz ribeye got a 12 oz overcooked ribeye. Asked for medium rare got well and a baked potato a little bigger than a golf ball. Waited 1 1/2 hours finally got my salad. Flavorless beef vegetable soup. It's gone way down hill in my opinion. read more

This restaurant is a 5 for me. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, and all of the staff were phenomenal. This was my 1st time ever at this eatery, and of course it would be on a very busy night (like Valentine's Day). If you're planning on visiting on any holiday, my suggestion to you would be make reservations in advance. We unfortunately didn't have a reservation, but we were able to still get seated, and for that I'm so grateful. My other suggestion would be come to this eatery on an empty stomach. The portions here are on the larger side (). This is what we ordered. Drinks rainbow, sherbet (adult beverage) good, Peachy Tea (adult beverage) good, Jack and Coke good. Free appetizer starters are always a plus. We had a plate charcuterie board with a few pieces of salami, carrots, celery, cheese, banana peppers. Also as a free starter, a small loaf of white bread with butter. Last free starter was a plate of raviolis. All starters were delicious. All entrées had a side, salad and soup of choice. Our soup was vegetable beef. Our entrées were a 12 ounce steak with brussels sprouts (really good). Second entrée was a 12 ounce steak french fries and a side order of battered shrimp (really good). We love this place. Very friendly. Good drinks and good food. The reason it didn't get a five is because there have been times on Friday nights where it took a long time to get our food. They have started opening for lunch with special things on the menu. Happy hour starts at 4:00 I believe. You can get a full dinner with all the trimmings and appetizers. Easily splitable. Had the pleasure of trying this restaurant with my extended family this weekend- party of 9. Service was friendly and relatively fast considering the restaurant was packed. Fun, casual atmosphere. Believe all the reviews saying you won't leave hungry. The appetizers- antipasto plate is basic, bread is good, ravioli decent, salad good, and soup excellent. Most of us were full before the entire's came out. I ordered the filet with Mac and cheese. Both were very good. The pot pie was just okay- lacked seasoning but nice presentation. Prime rib was very good. I literally couldn't eat another bite, but my sister said the chicken was really good. Overall a surprisingly nice experience. read more

Couldn't have asked for better service. James was personable and made our entire table feel at home and welcome - even cracked a couple jokes. The servers were attentive and i never saw the bottom of my glass. Really enjoyed the ambiance and how friendly everyone was with each other. The food was top tier and price was unbeatable - lots of variety with drinks too. Wait time was pretty short too - i would have expected much longer with how many cars were in the parking lot. Lets just say all i have to do here is tell the truth of our experience. Take it as you will. In summary, not worth it at any price, and the quality of the cooking is so low, so underwhelming, that this is a no go back for us. Service is ok at best as they know how bad it is. This is a Management/Chef issue, and will not change untill a complete sterilization of chef and management happens and all staff are retrained. We ordered prime rib medium rare, and chicken wellington, appetizer of crab cakes, water and ice tea. Pretty easy order. It was only 30% full so kitchen stress was nill. First up the antipasti...to even use the italian term is an injustice to all things italian. The peperchinis were all that was even remotely quality and that is because they did not make them. Cheese, carrots, celery, and salami were kindergarden lunch bag grade and assembled in such fashion. The table bread was ok, but not great. Second up the ravioli. Was this stuff in a can? Over cooked no bite, no flavor except the parmesean someone sprinkled on. You could clearly tell at this point that neither chef or owner is tasting the food...ever... pasty bland and canned... Third up the soup & salad, not bad, small table salad with ranch. Soup had flavor but looked drab, It was ok but just that. Fourth the crab cake. At this point we should have left but we endured hoping for change, which didnt come. Advertised as hand formed lump crab cake with lemon caper hollandaise. Sounds tempting, but the only thing cooked well was the grilled lemon. The cakes were cooked in so much oil they might as well have been deep fried. Absolutely no flavor of crab, it was a soggy, oily, mess. The hollandaise was ok, but didnt help this failure of an attempt at yummy. I took a video of the oil as i pressed the cake with my fork..to be posted..ate two bites..but the staff didnt even notice. Ive seen this before..they are simply just numb to it. Finally the prime rib and chicken wellington... Dont ask me how, because a prime rib should be cooked in an oven with timers, and thermometers used. And although it was spiced well on the outside, the center of my 16 oz piece was so rare it bordered on raw. So rare the knife wouldn't work right. I showed the waiter, he offered to refire it...which they did, but its a prime rib, it should be perfectly med rare upon serving or more well if requested. It should never be on a plate with a center that is raw. This just shows a lack of basic skill,respect, and patience by the staff. The carrot garnish on my plate had bite and flavor, but was drowned in oil beyond anything acceptable. As if someone just didnt care. Chicken Wellington? There is absolutely nothing "Wellington" about this dish except the pastry shell which again was oily and greasy, not light, flavorful, crisp and fluffy. The mush on the inside wrapped around the chicken was bland, the chicken was bland. She didnt eat it. And no one noticed...in the end the waiter offered me a couple of dollars off of the prime rib because they had to recook it? What about the oily cakes, or the pastry mush? Come on folks, this is not even close. Nope, no way. Epic fail, and no shame. We left sorry we wasted our money. Definately will be driving past fortuna from now on...cheers. read more

Wow. Packed on a Friday night so be sure to make a reservation. My filet was ordered medium and came perfect. The gals worked well together to make sure food came out timely and remnants were cleared. So. Much. Food. I was shocked- and pleasantly surprised- by antipasti, ravioli, bread, soup and salad accompanying my very reasonably priced steak. Two entrees, two drinks, and kids meal for $100? We were on our road trip when we came across this place and decided to stop in. Best decision of our trip as far as food goes. The customer service was outstanding, the food was plentiful and delicious, the alcoholic beverages were on point, there was so much food that we couldn't even finish all of it, the price for everything was really good for everything that you got, and we happen to be in town during the car show so we got to have a little car show action in the parking lot. But what made it a perfect five star was the customer service as our waiter and another gal went out of their way to make us feel welcomed and was very attentive even though they were super busy due to the car show. Our food came out quickly and not only that but they just kept bringing out more and more food. The owners motto here is that nobody should leave hungry and you definitely will not be hungry when you leave here. In fact, you'll probably leave with a to go box. I love the feel of the restaurant, very homelike. They have a great serving staff who are friendly, fun, very polite and quick. The food is very delicious. Their steaks are thick and juicy. The side dishes are big and filling. And their appetizers are absolutely worth getting. The loaded potatoes skins are my favorite. 10/10 recommend this place for a nice date night. read more

I am a DD regular every friday night. I eat with my husband and a girlfriend in the bar. Earlier this month we were eating dinner when a man came walking hastily out of the kitchen area. He walked up to a woman who was paying her bill and started screaming in her face all kinds of obsceneties. He called her a "stuck up b****" among others I will not repeat. Not sure what the argument was about as it was busy and I couldnt hear but regardless of the context, I couldnt believe it. The woman didnt react except for a very surprised look on her face. I recognize this woman as her and a large group of other women are also friday night regulars. After the woman had finally walked out while the man was still furious, I asked someone who the man was. Turns out it was the owners husband. Ive never been so baffled on how an owner of an establishment thought it appropriate to treat any customer this way, let alone a regular in a very large group of regulars. Definitely dissapointing and will not be going back. Shame this mans wife(the owner) had to experience such embarassment at the hands of her own husband. read more

KENDALL (our waitress) WAS AMAZING!! We had our first annual "Ladies Night Out." There were 14 of us (for us sisters and our over 21 nieces). We were all nervous as we don't go out often, we have never been to this restaurant and sometimes being in a big group is intimidating to the staff. Kendall was efficient in her order taking (yes we did small groups of separate checks) taking our drink orders first even though some of our party was not there. When everyone showed up she went over the specials, gave us a few minutes and then took our orders. We ordered drinks (beers, ciders and cocktails-Raspberry Sherbets a vodka drink and Peach Palomas a tequila drink) and food. Drinks came out quick and delicious! For food we ordered steaks (of course) and pasta dishes. All of the food came out as ordered and hot! Before our entrees arrived we were given a plethora of small plate like appetizers that are included in the price of the entree. Those included bread, antipasto (celery, baby carrots, cubed cheese, salami), and ravioli. Also included was a choice of soup or salad. Pretty mid but enjoyable. Kendall was attentive throughout the entire meal. Kendall made sure our drinks were filled and that our food was out in a timely manner. She also was able to get all of the tabs correct on the first go! And if that was not enough she allowed us to commandeer a few tables so that we would be able to do our white elephant gift exchange. Won a few bucks at the horse races so celebrated here. I wasn't as hungry as the hubs so we opted for a shared plate. With that, I got my own green salad, a bowl of soup (pretty sure canned, not fresh) and some of his garlic mashed and a sm piece of his prime rib. Plenty for me. Well, this place is a standout on the North Coast. Let start with the service. It was a Tuesday night and not too many people in the place, but it was outstanding, nevertheless. Both my wife and I ordered the rib-eye steaks. You can order by size. They start you with the antipasto, then raviolis. soup of the day, salad with choice of dressing then your entree. The service was not that great. When we got there, there was plenty of room both outside and inside and the waitress wanted to put us in the darkest corner of the room. She didn't even offer if we wanted inside or outside. We did get 1 kids menu, but nothing to entertain the 2yr old. No crayons or paper. Our waitress only came by 1 time the entire visit to take our orders. Never checked in on anyone. The new York strip was chewy and cold and over cooked for how I asked for it. The kids burgers had nothing on them even though my kids asked for a few things such as lettuce and cheese. I tried 1 bite of their burgers and had to spit it out because of how dry the meat was. When we got up to go pay the waitress gave us the check at the counter and walked off, leaving is standing there for a good amount of time. Over all poor service and poor food. Then there were flies that kept bugging us and landing on the food when it did arrive. We will not be going back and will not be recommending this place. read more

Pre dinner salad tasted a little off. the ravioli, which is a little strange to get before a meal, were over cooked and the sauce tasted like it came out of a jar. The chicken and rice soup (also served before the entree) the rice in it was just mush. Ordered the rib eye which came cooked fine but my Mac and cheese that was my side was cold. Not impressed. Sub par ingredients for all this nonsense BEFORE the steak. Sysco frozen bread loaf, comes to table warm and quickly turns to hotdog bun consistency. A small plate with a few salami slices, cheese chunks, celery sticks. Another small plate with raviolis. A MELAMINE PLASTIC bowl of soup. A decent salad. Then the steak and side. The mac and cheese was a powdered cheese or velveta cheese type mac and cheese with some bread crumbs sprinked on top. The steak was ordered "medium", but half of it was raw on the inside (about 1.5 inches thick). I'd prefer to cut out the BS and just bring out the steak. Cut the prices by 5 bucks and everyone is happy. Don't expect home cooking. Within a 5 minutes from leaving, my stomach HURT. Had to stop and Mcd's to use the bathroom! All bad. I don't normally eat commercial/GMO food and something tore up my gut. BEWARE! read more

It's been a while since I have been here and I do not plan to go back. I like supporting local, but maybe this place just isn't for me. The wait was extremely long. After waiting just shy of an hour we went to sit in the bar. It was crowded and loud but I wanted to try out the place everyone was raving about. The bread was by far the best part of the experience. Fresh baked, well presented and the taste. Yum! The salad was meh. The soup tasted canned. The filet mignon portions were very small but cooked good (not great but good). I was looking forward to the a steak house ravioli, but got 6 pieces of tasteless chef boyardee or a similar off brand. The potato was over cooked or something reheated from a previous cooking. We also had a crab cakes appetizer that was just no. The mixed drinks were good and improved the experience. I did cringe when I saw the bar tender pouring wine in a glass like it was spirits. Wine takes more care, or it ends up tasting like the cheap stuff. read more

Looking for a late night dinner in a county where the mall closes at 8pm is tricky. I heard about this place from my co-workers. While it is off the Main Street in Fortuna, I drove passed it because the parking lot was a bit dark. Once I entered the doors it reminded me of Morton's entry in downtown San Diego. But don't be fooled the clientele is clearly local with ball caps, camo-wear, boots and jeans. Next you will immediately see a bar to the right and the dinning area to the left. Customers were clearly enjoying the bar area which to me was an indication this was a favorite location. The decor was rustic with a large chandelier of deer antlers along with walls sconces for lighting which was appropriate to set the mood for food and drink while building expectations for a delicious steak or prime rib to be cooked to perfection and it was! The cocktail menu offered a local red blend to Coppola Pinot Noir. The local mixologist made me chuckle with a "rodeo queen" offering and I found this an entertaining read and I am sure it would have been tasty too. I ordered surf and turf and my sister ordered the prime rib. It came with a choice soup and a salad. She had the beef vegetable and I chose the clam chowder. They had a dish of homemade croutons to munch while waiting to order. Before the soup and salad arrived a small warm homemade bread arrived with a side of ravioli and anti pasta! Both soups were delicious! The fresh made house dressing for the salad. I love good thousand island! The lobster was cooked to perfection and they offered a delectable garlic butter dip. Yum! The aged steak medallions were cooked to perfection. Obviously with all the epicurean delights neither of us could finish our meals but they made a delightful addition to our breakfast!
