I was greeted by the ladies serving the bar, who quickly brought me water and asked if there was anything else I'd like to drink while I looked over their menu. I got the house coffee, which is good and strong. They offer coffee mate creamers and sugar. I got the "55" breakfast on the menu which is two eggs any style, bacon, wheat toast (white or white are the options), and strawberry jam. It was really good, well plated, and the breakfast held me over through the 1pm game as the amount of protein will definitely hold you over. The dining area itself was nice and clean, filled with patrons, and everyone at the bar talked with one another. A quick search revealed the Double Nickle. Familiar with the area, I was in awe at the transformation of the restaurant space, having lunched at Porcellis many times over the years. A fresh menu, mix of cocktails, dining and banquet spaces set the Double Nickle apart. Perfect for a work lunch, hotel brunch, or a birthday party. The staff was knowledgeable and inviting, engaged with suggestions and attentive. I opted to start with a peach mimosa, delicious! For brunch I was torn, shrimp and grits or catfish. Our server, Daryl, nudged my choice of the catfish. The dish was soooo good. Poached eggs, grits, perfectly fried catfish with a dash of hot sauce. It was an experience. I literally cleaned my plate. The mimosas were a bit small on the serving size. However, several issues negatively impacted our experience. The server's attire was inappropriate for a dining establishment, resembling more of a nightclub outfit, with an exposed midriff and very short shorts. Frankly, no establishment, should subject guests to an atmosphere that feels like a nightclub or brunch party rather than a professional dining experience. This felt unprofessional and not fitting for a place serving hot food and drinks, reflecting poorly on management's standards. The billing was confusing and frustrating. For a party of two, an automatic 18% gratuity was added, which is usually reserved for larger groups. The receipt also included an unclear charge labeled "guests 4." The detailed charges were: subtotal $75.00, tax $4.64, credit card surcharge $2.63, and 18% gratuity $13. 50, totaling $95.77 for brunch. The order took place at 12:51 p.m., check number 42, on August 10, 2025. Please be sure to carefully review your bill before making payment. Cleanliness was another problem. The salt and pepper shakers on the table were dirty, and the bathroom was untidy, with paper towels and toilet tissue scattered in the sink and floor. I took pictures to show the manager. I was over it by the time I returned to the table with no towel to dry my hands off with. When you walk into a Black-owned brunch spot in Cleveland, it should be known for its class and professionalism, setting the standard as a top-notch place to attend. For example, establishments like Ruth's Chris, Blue Point, and Red's maintain a respectful and polished atmosphere-no guests are subjected to servers walking around with exposed midriffs or nightclub-style attire. Frankly, no restaurant, regardless of its style, should create an environment that feels more like a nightclub or party than a dining experience. Such presentation is unsanitary and unprofessional, and it reflects poorly on the business as a whole. To add to that, the location is a great destination for brunch. If I could give it a zero! I would. We called before heading over there to avoid any waitlist or wait time. One of the staff members answered and informed us that there was no wait time and we headed that way! When we arrived the place looked very empty. It was 6 of us and we were very happy since we had just left a breakfast place that was jam packed and had a 45 minute wait list. Our server sat us in the back room, pretty much hidden away from the rest of the restaurant. Though it was spacious we felt very isolated and did not get to enjoy the whole restaurant experience. Our server was kind but she did miss items such as napkins, and refills for our water. When it was finally time to order, after sitting for sometime, the waitress started taking our order. Everything went well and she even offered a smash burger instead of a regular burger to my husband which was on special for $12 . So that was great and we were under the impression that we would get our order just how we wanted it. Unfortunately this was not the case, we waited for our food for about 45 minutes. The food came one plate at a time and my husbands burger had raw onions and not the grilled. The burger looked nothing like a smash burger but we trusted that the server knew what she was doing. My husband still wanted the grilled onions so he asked the server but the onions never came. We all had finished our meals and the waiter never came back. As we wrapped up and got ready to pay we brought this up to the servers attention and the owner/manager on duty. TERRIBLE AND POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. We were told that it was our fault that the burger was not completed the way we had ordered it. We were charged incorrectly and extra items were on the receipt (grilled onions). We were told that we were in a hurry and had to catch a flight?!!!, which was not true at all, however this justified why we did not get the right customer service according to the staff members there. Was not able to get any names from any staff member. Overall very disappointing and will not be coming back. The waitresses and receptionist were bussing the tables when we visited. On our way out of Cleveland we knew we had to leave with a bang-- enter Double Nickel Brunch. We definitely saved one of our best meals for last. Choices were difficult as the whole menu seemed totally scrumptious, but the salmon croquettes spoke to me the most. Seasoned and crisped salmon patties, accompanied with eggs your-way, breakfast potatoes, toast and jam. I loved the array of flavors this dish provided. The cinnamon roll skillet was to die for. Double Nickel is a little breakfast/brunch spot in Downtown Cleveland. Parking may be an issue since it is located downtown. Valet parking is $25 however you can find a garage or park on the street. The hostess informed us that on street parking was free on Sundays. The restaurant appeared to be small but there were actually 3 different rooms to dine in. The atmosphere is laid back. Music is constantly playing however it's not overpowering...in other words you can have a conversation. Where I was seated there were around (9) 4 person tables along with the bar. We ordered the French Toast, the Catfish, and the Chicken and Waffles. The French toast was absolutely delicious!!! I thought the catfish was cooked perfectly and the seasoning on it was extremely tasty. It came with breakfast potatoes which we all loved. They were nicley seasoned. The chicken and waffles were somewhat basic. I enjoyed them but nothing about them blew me away. The waffle was kind of soft and I know that some people prefer to have them cooked a bit longer. If you are one of those people, I would suggest that you let them know how you want the waffle cooked when you order. The one negative about the dish is that the 3 chicken wings were extremely small. We also ordered a side of grits. They seriously lacked flavor and needed some salt (or sugar). As far as the taste of the meal, that was the only disappointment. Hip new brunch spot in downtown Cleveland! Ambience - located on a small side street, you could easily pass this place up but inside is a super cute and cozy space with a modern brunchy vibe.
