A quick search revealed the Double Nickle. Familiar with the area, I was in awe at the transformation of the restaurant space, having lunched at Porcellis many times over the years. A fresh menu, mix of cocktails, dining and banquet spaces set the Double Nickle apart. Perfect for a work lunch, hotel brunch, or a birthday party. The staff was knowledgeable and inviting, engaged with suggestions and attentive. I opted to start with a peach mimosa, delicious! For brunch I was torn, shrimp and grits or catfish. Our server, Daryl, nudged my choice of the catfish. The dish was soooo good. Poached eggs, grits, perfectly fried catfish with a dash of hot sauce. It was an experience. I literally cleaned my plate. My husband ordered the skillet, scrambled eggs, potatoes and chorizo. He loved it. Did I mention, fresh jam with your toast...it was simple and fresh. Found this place by the luck of looking on Yelp. This is located where the old Porcelli's restaurant was on East 6th downtown. We finished working out and did a search for brunch on Yelp. This place came up 5 min walk. Food was awesome. Had the skillet. Wife had the catfish. Incredible. Place has a low key laid back vibe. Friendly service. Very good for brunch! Absolutely delicious food! Service is friendly and cheerful. The wait can be a bit long during busy hours. Doesn't look like they have enough staff, or maybe someone called in sick. The waitresses and receptionist were bussing the tables when we visited. There were several dirty tables waiting to be cleared and customers were waiting 30-45 minutes to be seated, with empty, dirty tables all around the restaurant. That was a bit annoying. Choices were difficult as the whole menu seemed totally scrumptious, but the salmon croquettes spoke to me the most. Seasoned and crisped salmon patties, accompanied with eggs your-way, breakfast potatoes, toast and jam. I loved the array of flavors this dish provided. The cinnamon roll skillet was to die for. This review is for my experience on May 5th. Not sure why I've never noticed this place. It's only a year old, but I still never noticed it in passing. Lydia was warm and welcoming the moment I stepped into the establishment. The morning mango mimosa was extremely good and the NY strip was seasoned well. I added a side of fruit with the meal, and they certainly provide you with a ton of fruit in that small portion. First, this location space is SMALL Second, I called the number listed on google to ask about wait times, the man that answered the phone proceeded to tell me to call another number and they would be able to tell me (please updated this contact info). Third, its off on a side street that is narrow and they offer valet *blank stare* When we arrived, there were 3 of us, the wait was about 45 mns, we asked could we sit at the bar, which was perfects. The young lady behind the bar was nice, however she did not check back in enough and we were literally at the end of the bar. Friend asked for turkey sausage in the Skillet she ordered, it did not come with turkey sausage. Double Nickel is a little breakfast/brunch spot in Downtown Cleveland. Parking may be an issue since it is located downtown. Valet parking is $25 however you can find a garage or park on the street. The hostess informed us that on street parking was free on Sundays. The restaurant appeared to be small but there were actually 3 different rooms to dine in. The atmosphere is laid back. Music is constantly playing however it's not overpowering...in other words you can have a conversation. Where I was seated there were around (9) 4 person tables along with the bar. We ordered the French Toast, the Catfish, and the Chicken and Waffles. The French toast was absolutely delicious!!! I thought the catfish was cooked perfectly and the seasoning on it was extremely tasty. It came with breakfast potatoes which we all loved. They were nicley seasoned. The chicken and waffles were somewhat basic. I enjoyed them but nothing about them blew me away. The waffle was kind of soft and I know that some people prefer to have them cooked a bit longer. If you are one of those people, I would suggest that you let them know how you want the waffle cooked when you order. The one negative about the dish is that the 3 chicken wings were extremely small. We also ordered a side of grits. They seriously lacked flavor and needed some salt (or sugar). As far as the taste of the meal, that was the only disappointment. This was our first stop during our first trip to Cleveland and I cannot say enough about the pure QUALITY of this food. I could taste the love in every single bite. The chicken and waffles was simply the most seasoned and well cooked plate I have ever eaten for brunch. The skillet with the pork sausage gravy was phenomenal. Hip new brunch spot in downtown Cleveland! Ambience - located on a small side street, you could easily pass this place up but inside is a super cute and cozy space with a modern brunchy vibe. There are 2 dining rooms and then a private room toward the back for events or meetings, and a long central bar with a great selection of alcohol. Service - everyone here was very friendly and seemed to enjoy working there which is hard to come by these days! Our server was attentive and helpful! No reservations needed- we didn't have issues getting a table at 1030 for Saturday brunch but toward noon it definitely started filling up. Food- I had the French toast which was delicious- a super fluffy brioche toast with just the right amount of syrup and not overly sweet! We also got the skillet which was excellent- the potatoes were perfectly cooked and not greasy. This was a highly disappointing experience from beginning to end. We had a larger party of 12 and they could not move tables around so we had to sit in three tables of four. There was an automatic service fee of 18% added (not just because of the large party size but for every party. The service definitely reflected the fact that they had an automatic tip. They were incredibly slow and unresponsive. The three tables food came out at totally different times despite being ordered at the same time. Of course, I was hoping that the food would redeem the experience but no such luck. I had chicken and waffles and the chicken "tenders" that came were the driest stringiest tenders that I have ever had. Even the syrup and hot sauce could not revive them.
