There have been several new owners throughout the year, and I think this time around, they've gotten a little boost with their Mini Dapper Donuts. Little donut bites in many flavors to choose from. I had 4 flavors (dozen donuts): Chocolate Peanut Butter, Blueberry Lemon, PB&J, Turtle. Out of the four, I can't pick a favorite. All were fresh and tasty. I've never seen cones like that before! I had the affagoto (iced cream with espresso) and it was sooo delicious. My mom got a latte, and the coffee that they serve from Moschetti's is top notch. Today I took my 5 year old daughter for some shaved ice. We were welcomed in by a very nice employee, Lyndon. When my daughter was unsure of what flavor she wanted, he took the time to go over ALL flavors and even took her around the counter to show her how the shaved ice was made because she couldn't see over the counter. Haven't stopped by this place in awhile so I was very excited to see a bit of change throughout the location. They've added small fridges to hold drinks for purchase as well as pushing for more sales of snow cones. The service was quick and the workers were very helpful. We come here occasionally for lunch or to treat the kids to ice cream. I don't know if they are under new management or if the new younger staff here is just less attentive. Came in today for ice cream and the entire place is filthy. The floor is literally black and sticky. Every single table here is dirty and sticky with ice cream. I asked the young man at the counter to please wipe a table so we could have a place to sit. He said, no problem, but just kept serving up ice cream while the other worker sat at a table on her phone. I had to go to the bathroom, wet paper towels and wipe off a table myself. We ended up at Double Rainbow Cafe the other night due to our close friend's urgent craving. We had never been there, and honestly I was not in the mood for ice cream (strangely). I found the cafe to be clean and bright, and it has lots and lots of flavors to choose from, plus the usual tastings from tiny spoons to help decide. I asked the manager what she liked best, one of which happened to be what my friend had ordered, "It's a Goody". I got a sugar cone, thinking it would be a smaller serving (not!). They did not lie about "It's a Goody"--it was eye-rolling fantastic--vanilla with peanut butter plus fudge chips. Speaking of the manager, she is also fantastic. I enjoyed the atmosphere and it's location is great! It's kid friendly if you want to take your family for icecream this is the place. They have alot to choose from and even icecream for those who are lactose intolerant. The only reason I didn't score higher was when I ordered the "hot mocha". I watched carefully (unbeknowns to burista) they did NOT change coffee grounds and used same. The "hot mocha" I ordered had a slightly weaker taste as if it was reused 2xs or more. We stopped into Double Rainbow on a Friday night around 8:30 for dessert after grabbing dinner at Venticello's just a short walk down the street. Walking in, you are greeted with warm bright colors everywhere, and of course the welcoming smell of treats! A quick look around and a perusal of the menu show that this place is a wonderful throwback to a 50s style dinner, and the charm of that is intoxicating. The older gentleman behind the counter was full of personality, and told us their cheesecake was mindboggling, and that he would put their cheesecake up against that one particular cheesecake restaurant's offerings any day of the week! We took him up on that chutzpah and ordered a slice of caramel fudge cheesecake to share. He gave us the plate with 2 forks and said "Try it first, THEN pay!" And of course it was phenomenal - creamy and rich without being heavy, and definitely made with love. 1 slice was plenty to share too, so it was a great deal!
