I've gone here a couple of times before the workers and older man are usually so welcoming but not today. They were super Debbie downers today. They stood all the way back from us ordering. I asked a guy if my children could use his restroom & he had to think about it for a second before he said yes, we were customers so I don't know what the hesitation was about. My children's bubble gum ice cream had a loooot of hair in it. I made a trip here, paying bridge tolls, for Hawaiian shaved ice. I was disappointed. The ice is not actually shaved, but ground/crushed, so the flavored syrup drains to the bottom of the cup. Overall, this small little creamy gets a 3.75. I cannot believe I posted a picture but I failed to (ever) write a review! I leave literally a hop, skip, and a jump from Double Rainbow. One major reason I cannot give a higher rating is the pricing. Their prices are definitely on the higher scale and we all know were we can go for cheaper ice cream, even if its not "specialty", in Benicia (Rite-Aid). Their service has been a see-saw for me. Sometimes I get the bubbly personality, other times, I get the "this is the only way I'm going to have money from the summer, so I am just putting up with it." Ahhh to be a teenager again. However, their ice creams are delicious, usually we get their sundae or lately its been root beer float which are made quite different with a scoop in the cup and a scoop on the rim of the cup. And I have had a taste, more like a bite of their artichoke and gouda sandwich (very very yum!). I feel as though something is always missing when I go in here though. Besides personality, its the features of the cafe that seem to be quite as inviting. Very simplistic and just not as inviting as you would think. I wouldn't say I'll stop coming here, but I would hope to see changes that well keep me much more frequent then I am now. read more

Got four flavors and the American flavors were great, creamy and had enough ingredients, but when I tried the within flavor like the taro and the green tea the flavor didn't come out. Cool little place to get ice cream. Green tea and dulce de leche are bomb! They have boba too with creative names on the menu but didn't say what flavors they actually were. Ice cream was great - so creamy and not too rich! A child's cup ($2.65) was a decent sized scoop for my daughter. They have a good variety of flavors and they sell more than just ice cream. I had cookie dough and my daughter had strawberry flavored ice cream. Shaved ice, coffee, shakes, cheese cake and cakes are other items up for purchase there. I am definitely coming back to try their other desserts. Parking is basically street parking but they are located downtown on 1st Street, next to a sushi restaurant. FYI, pokestops galore all along 1st Street. Great place to walk around and enjoy your ice cream. Service was friendly and place was clean. Go there for the Ghirardelli hot chocolate. They make it just right. The only time the service is nice is when the older gentleman or owner is there. The other people are always so unwelcoming. Though I know it was late it really does not hurt to crack a smile to your guests. They should also display the time because I hate always asking them their hours with one foot out the door. When you venture onto first street in Benicia you are immediately drawn into the cutest old-town with shops and a beautiful view of the bay. I visited this colorful establishment the weekend before the shelter-in-place order in Solano County. Coronavirus tensions were high but I was committed to take the dog I was watching out on a stroll. As I was walking downtown, I was enchanted by the rainbows and colorful ice cream cone outside of this local establishment. I could feel my pandemic fears melt away as I took in the childlike joy experienced when bubble tea and ice cream await my palate! Although I was initially overwhelmed with so many flavors to choose from, I settled on a classic ice cream flavor with plentiful offerings of fudge and peanut butter. As I watched the ice cream server smile and use hand sanitizer with each customer, I knew I was going to be safe and it was well worth it to support a local business. As much as I was enticed to stay in to stare at the colorful walls, I had to head out to tend to the dog. I savored every bite and couldn't spare sharing a single bite! Went back today to get a couple drinks with my 3 year old after he'd been playing at the park up the street. I might've chosen not to go here, but my son is a big fan of Boba LOL. We walked in through the unlocked doors to be told they were currently closed (for another half hour or so), I guess they reduced their hours for the holiday weekend. Which is fine, I was confused as to why the doors were unlocked but I think they were setting up the patio furniture. We went to leave and out on the sidewalk my son became really upset as I tried to explain to the tired, hot, 3 yr old that we'd have to get back in the car and go to another place near home for boba. The manager came out to set up the patio stuff and when he heard all we wanted were a couple of drinks he offered to let us come in and get them even though they weren't open. It made my little's day! The girl behind the counter also remembered which drinks we order without me needing to ask which was a little surprising as we haven't been coming in all that often. The manager reached out to me after my first review apologizing for the conditions I experienced and asked me to come back in, which was part of why we came today. I was glad to see, when I went to wash my hands, that the bathroom at least looks like it had been cleaned in the last week and they brought in a storage cabinet for all the stuff that was thrown in the bathroom. It isn't spotless, but is also doesn't look like the bathroom is doubling as storage space, and I didn't cringe at the idea of employees using it too. Big Improvement! Thank you! read more

It's a cool little ice cream shop for its location. A nice variety of flavors. They also have pastries and cookies at the counter. Other than sweet treats, they have sandwiches! I was feeling a nice and simple so I just ordered the chocolate. It was good, just your simple ol' ice cream, but the ice cream was sort of soft. It was melting unusually fast and got a little messy. (see my pic) I also had the oat bar, and to be honest I would never order it again nor recommend it to anyone. The texture was really hard and it tasted like salty clay. I love oat bars so I kept eating it to try to find some good in it but there was absolutely no pleasing taste to the palette L Last thing, I was told the oat bar was $2.50 but my change came out to $1 and a few cents. The cashier couldn't seem to figure out what was going on with the calculations but eventually he told me that there was tax... Odd, because I paid for the ice cream separately (prior to deciding I wanted the oat bar) and there was no tax on the ice cream. Hmm. read more

They just replaced their Shave Ice machine with a Sno Cone machine. My family had been so happy to have a place in Benicia making authentic Hawaiian-style shave ice and it was disappointing to see the chance. Once you've had proper shave ice, sno cones just won't cut it. I'm afraid I'll be visiting less frequently unless they return to serving real shave ice. They're good, there, but the main draw for me was the shave ice. read more

We were very happy to see Double Rainbow under new owner Tanvir. We stopped in late night before closing to grab a snow cone and ice cream and right away you can feel a positive vibe from the shop. The interior is enhanced and they also created a kids corner which I think is perfect for my little one to enjoy. I am glad to say that after the negative experience from previous owners that I am happy and excited to continue to bring my family here for our weekly treat after our walks. For their ice cream, shaved ice (not Hawaiian like advertised), and Boba teas, I would give it 4 stars. However, the reason I gave 3 stars is because I was charged $10 for this sandwich (turkey, cheese, avocado) on plain white bread, with a side "salad" that was just a heap of plain lettuce. The ranch tasted old and we threw it away. We were disappointed in the high price for such a small sandwich and salad. At least put the sandwich on some better bread and add some veggies to the salad. The boba tea is great but that was about it. Since I posted this one star review I have been back to double rainbow on three occasions. I went back because I learned that between my visits there was a change of ownership. The new owner encouraged me to return and tempted me with a free scoop of ice cream. I returned but didn't take him up on the ice cream not wanting him to give me good service because I the former owner a bad review. I am pleased to say the service has been excellent as well as the ice cream! I want to upgrade my one star to thank the new owner for his continued excellent service. read more
