We stop here when we're in the mood for a special treat. Always delicious and fun! Keep in mind that the Honolulu location is take-out only, and only has soft serve. We live nearby so we usually just take ours home. The service is always great and we've never had an issue with our order. We'll keep coming back for more! read more

I've seen this place on IG for a few months and was extremely eager to try. They store front is small because it's split with a vape shop but I still thought that was pretty cool. They give you a paper where you can make your order , and they give you 2 toppings + a sauce && you pay a small fee for anything extra. Overall it was such a good dessert place and I would go back ! Double Three came into my life on on pur anniversary in 2020, the year COIVD 'struck.' It offered a safe place for us to call ahead, pick-up our much anticipated dessert, and enjoy a 'night out,' even if from our vehicle. Our family immediately fell in love with the sweet, chewy, custardiness of the egg waffle against the cold, rich, creamy assortment of hand scooped ice cream. Yum! There are multiple Double Three locations, however, this storefeont is located conveniently in the heart of City Square Shopping Center. Ample parking is available. Adjacent to the likes of Kamehameha Bakery and Ubae, Double Three rounds out this dessert 'mecca' for sure! We have definitely been back to Double Three (Kalani Street) multiple times. More recently, changes have been implemented to include only walk in orders. A paper order form is available to initiate your order. Once submitted to the often solo worker, you are handed a buzzer to alert you when your yummiest is ready. The other major change is that softserve has replaced the originally hand scooped ice cream. Standard chocolate and vanilla softserve is usually available, as well as a flavor of the day. Don't get me wrong, the softserve is still yummy, but the creaminess and texture of the scooped ice cream was more my preference. And,since the price per dessert is nearing $10 per egg waffle/softserve, it is a little disappointing without the handscooped ice cream. Defintiely not enough to deter me from coming back though...let's be real. Haha. Now, let's talk toppings...they've got all the bases covered. You are alloted 2 standard toppings and 1 syrup choice with your dessert (premium and extra toppings available with extra charge). Choose wisely... Helpful hint: request the egg waffle separate from the ice cream to prolong the crunch. Also, a toaster or air fryer, can definitely breath new crisp into your leftover waffles as well! Trying to devour everything to avoid the melting and sogginess is often difficult due to the size of this dessert. Extra cups and utensils are usually available upon request to allow for sharing. This is my first time eating a bubble waffle cone and it did not disappoint! Due to covid there's a limit to how many people can enter at a time and you have to fill out a form to order, but I actually found it helpful instead of trying to figure out a big menu board in line. The cone was warm and puffy, the ice cream was creamy and delicious. I'll be back again for sure! read more

Near little place by Pancakes and Waffles in Kalihi. Fun choices for very Instagram worthy dessert. It actually was quite delicious and the mochi waffle come was neat. It does take a while to make and if it's crowded (like over 5 people) be prepared to wait in close quarters. We got there when it was empty ordered and by the time it was ready was so crowded we went outside to eat it. read more

Love, love, love! My siblings and I grew up eating bubble waffles in the streets of Hong Kong, so when I saw pictures from Double Three on social media I HAD to try. Now I can't stay away! And I live an HOUR away (so that's saying a lot). You can customize the entire dessert to your personal taste preferences, so it's great for the whole family. Their "original" waffle flavor is the perfect texture, and tastes exactly like the bubble waffles in Hong Kong. I've become a huge Double Three fan and will definitely be coming lots more as well as recommending to my friends and family. P.s. Just as a tip, the shop itself is pretty small, so seating can be limited during busy hours. read more

Came here twice in 2 weeks with the kid. The waffle is amazingly good, made the wait worth the while. The cone and ice cream are huge so sharing might best to share. Note: Parking is hard in that area during lunch hours. read more

I went to try this place today and it was so amazing. This is the best ice cream place i've ever been to. The bubble cone was so good. It was crunchy with a chewy mochi inside. The ice cream went really well with it. Also the serving size was perfect for 2. Although it was very sweet I really enjoyed it and I look forward to going there again. You can also even just order the cone without the ice cream. I saw a lot of people doing that and i would do the same as well because the cone was amazing and the best part. If you going alone the serving size is huge and I might suggest just getting the bubble cone. They make it so perfectly there although the wait time was a little long it was definitely worth it. read more

I'm so glad I gave this place a try when I came to visit. Their waffles are amazing and actually have flavor. My husband and I shared one and it was more than enough for us. We got vanilla ice cream and you could choose from two toppings - we got the m&ms and chocolate chips with whipped cream on top. It was on the pricier side but worth it. I'd go again when I'm back in town. It is a small place so it can get crowded and you might have to wait for a seat. read more

Hands down THE BEST place for ice cream on the island of Oahu. My family and I saw this place on my friends IG and it looked so good we drove down immediately. The waffle cones are made to perfection and it stays crispy the whole time. The ice cream is smooth and creamy but not too sweet. This place is alright...Customer service was very poor. The young lady behind the counter didn't seem excited to have us there. We made our orders and got it a few minutes later. We got our order and it looked great but, the bottom of the waffle cone was empty. One big scoop with my toppings I choose. They charge $4.95 for an extra scoop of ice cream. My son ordered One scoop ice cream in a cup asked for another scoop and was told she can't do that. So we were confused. What do you mean? We're willing to pay for the scoop. She said they can't. So we let it go. Everything here is so pricey the add ons, the scoop ice cream...it's crazy. read more

Just found out about thee cutest lil ice cream shop! Located in City Square Shopping Center near Kam Bakery and Ubae, the unmistakable smell of waffles leads you straight to this gem. I couldn't help feeling as if I was transported back to Shanghai where I first tried Hong Kong style egg waffles. Here at Double Three, you can have yours topped with your choice of ice cream and a variety of delicious, decadent toppings. I chose their charcoal waffles! Yup, you heard that right, charcoal waffles. So unique and so ono! The waffles were crisp on the outside and chewy/fluffy on the inside. The ice cream was high quality, so creamy and yummy! The whimsical toppings adds to the fun, especially for kids. Their attention to detail on each of their creations shows a true testament to the care they put into their business. Cute spot. Near HCC, in the same area as the DMV and Dillingham Chuck E Cheese, just a little further down. Lots of parking available. My only complaint has got to be that there isn't enough space. There's only about 4 tables and 2-3 chairs per table. Other than that, everything else is cool. So, when you get in, there's an order form. It's like a checklist and pretty self explanatory. Credit cards and cash are accepted. Each bubble waffle takes a couple of minutes to make since they're fresh. They have a sign posted that they stay crisp for about 10-15 minutes, so best to eat them right away. I've seen a red bubble waffle in some pics, but the choices on the paper were regular, charcoal, chocolate, and matcha... so no idea what the red was about, I'll have to ask on our next visit. We chose regular waffle with cookies and cream (special flavor of the day) with sprinkles, pocky and choco drizzle. It was a nice cold treat for a hot summer day! The total cost was just under $9 and they are able to text you a receipt. Overall, we will probably be back again. It is far out for us, but it's in a location that I can make excuses to visit. With Salon Essentials and Hana Tea being in the neighborhood, I have good excuses to drop by. Highly recommended to beat the summer heat! read more

Bubble waffle and ice cream, two dessert items that compliment each other so well. What a smart idea of using the waffle as a cone, haha. Foodland Ala Moana also offers this but I think Double Three does it better. I was shocked that nothing was overly sweet and unbearable as I do not love sweet sweet things! Their bubble puffs were the right amount of chewiness and the ice cream was not too sweet :) My boyfriend and I ordered separately since he decided he wanted his own after a minute of me putting my order in (we were gonna share) so when the waffle came out I had to wait for his to come out to eat and take pictures together, haha. It takes quite a while to receive your order as they make their bubble waffles fresh from when you order! This also means they don't waste anything which I really like. I also like how they have a paper cup instead of plastic because sustainability! I wish their spoons were more environmentally friendly though, that would be a nice change. Too bad their hours are quite limited since I eat quite a late dinner and this place isn't really open during dessert hours like nine or ten. :P read more

My friend wanted to go here and I had never heard of it, so we met there on a Thursday afternoon. It was hot and yucky outside so it was the perfect day for an ice cream treat. The workers there showed us the order sheet to fill out, and off we went! My friend got pumpkin spice waffle, with Kit Kat and caramel. We got original waffle, with KitKat, marshmallows, and chocolate. Both were sooooo good. as you can imagine, the best part is the waffle--mochi chewy with waffle lightness and subtle flavor. Presentation is so pretty. You may think the price is high, but it is huge. Neither of us could finish it, and we had a third person helping. I think the 3 of us could've finished 1. I want to go back and try the other flavor combos. I would suggest going on an off-time, like it was about 3pm on a weekday for us and it wasn't busy. But, if it's busy, it's gonna take awhile. This place totally redefines waffles and ice cream! Nice crisp bubble waffle stuffed with ice cream and yummy toppings, yes please! You walk in and grab a piece of paper, it is really simple to order. First, select your waffle type. Original is their most popular, or you can try the chocolate, or matcha flavored. Second, select your ice cream flavor you can choose from chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla. They have special flavors that change so ask what their special flavor is. Today it was chocolate chip mint for St. Paddy's day. Third, choose your 2 free toppings. You can add on a topping for 25 cents. You can choose from KitKats, Oreos, chocolate chip cookie, almond chips, sprinkles, pockey stix, and more. Last, you choose your topping chocolate sauce, strawberry sauce, or whipped cream. I ordered the original with chocolate chip mint ice cream, pockey stix, KitKat, and whipped cream. The waffle was nice and crisp, the batter had a nice taste, the ice cream was filled with chocolate chip chunks, was smooth and went perfectly with the original waffle base. This ice cream creation is a real treat. Be patient, as it takes about 5-6 minutes to make just one bubble waffle. If it is busy, you can be waiting for a while. It is worth the wait! I came on a Sunday afternoon and it was busy, but they kept the flow going. It is a small space with a few seats inside so I recommend grabbing and enjoying your treat outside or elsewhere. If there are seats available it is a cute place to enjoy your treat. The staff are friendly and make sure you get what you ordered. Next time I will try the matcha with the vanilla ice cream. read more

Small quaint shop that fits 4-5 people standing comfortably. Place your order by completing a short form. Select your soft serve ice cream first (Vanilla, choc, Oreo or flavor of the day). Lastly there's a variety of toppings (2 free) and syrup (1 free) to choose from. There's an additional fee for any extra toppings/syrup. A pager is given to you to wait outside for your order. This yummy delight is served in a waffle shaped ice cream cone. It can be filling if you're eating it after a meal, so I would consider sharing. The waffle definitely takes the ice cream to another level that you really don't need any toppings. We usually hit up this spot on the weekend in the early afternoon. Give it a try! read more

Specialties

Our bubble waffles are influenced and are very similar to the Hong Kong waffles (gai dan zai) but are not exactly the same. We created a new type of batter with our secret recipe to produce a light cake/mochi like texture in the inside with the same crispiness on the outside to go well with the ice cream. We make our waffles/batter from scratch every day. We do not use instant mochi waffles/batter mix like many others do. We are the first DIY bubble waffle “Specialty Store” to serve bubble waffles with ice cream in Hawaii.

History

Established in 2019.

While the owner was studying dessert making in Tokyo, he came across Hong Kong waffles and immediately fell in love. He then went to Hong Kong to learn the traditional way of making Gai Dan Zai (Hong Kong waffles). After spending 2 years in Hong Kong, he decided to open a shop in Hawaii, where he grew up. With his back ground in dessert making, he’s made some changes to the traditional Hong Kong waffles (with respect) to create a modern bubble waffles that goes well when served with ice cream.

However, there are many alternative malasada purveyors throughout Honolulu, so I depended on local vloggers to find the best ones. This one popped up often on YouTube, and as luck would have it, we were dining at The Pig & The Lady on the next block. How calorifically convenient. We took the opportunity to stop by for a pre-dinner snack since they closed at 6PM. It's a cute shop with multiple sweets including quite a selection of housemade ice cream and delectable mouthfuls called Cake Bombs (Photo 10). We decided we would be good and ordered one unfilled Malasada each. Dusted with various sugar flavors, they were just $2.65 a piece. I went for the Coffee, while Jamie chose the daily special, Cinnamon (Photo 6). They were soft and tasty, quite comparable to Leonard's albeit a tad smaller. That wasn't necessarily a bad thing since we had dinner ahead of us. However, we let temptation get the best of us and shared a $5.50 slice of the Ube Haupia Mac Nut Bar, a yummy combination of sweet potato and ube topped with haupia (coconut milk pudding) on a macadamia nut crust (Photo 9). Truth be told, it stole the show from the malasadas. Meh: The $14 (including 15% tip) dessert tasted too light and ice-like and appeared more translucent (rather than opaque white) than expected, leading me to think the milk was watered down, which may be how the establishment can make up the cost for the portion size while maintaining a spot in Ala Moana, especially given milk prices in Hawai'i, even if you're buying from Costco or direct from farmers. Also, tables were not cleaned after each party departed; that transparent puddle on your table might not be condensation and may instead be drool drops from the toddler who sat there before you. Overall: Good (not outstanding) experience. Knocked off 2 stars for combination of suspected diluted milk + unclean tables.

Everything is beautifully served in hand crafted ceramic dishes and presented on wooden boards with a simple flower. You feel like you're in a cozy cafe in Japan. They are open till 10:00 on weekdays and till midnight on weekends Thursday - Saturday . Love that you can find a late night place to drink good quality tea, but they can add alcohol if you want too! My boyfriend mainly had the matcha breads and his favorite was the matcha mochi an-pan. I tried some as well and really enjoyed the combination of red bean paste and chewy mochi filling. The chocolate emoji bread was so cute, but flavor-wise it was simply bread with dark chocolate inside. It was good, but nothing memorable. The bacon onion bread was probably my favorite, it was savory, flavorful, and satisfying. I also enjoyed the Cinnamoroll blueberry bread. The blue sprinkles made it extra cute, and the blueberry custard filling was yummy. For drinks, we ordered the Cinnamoroll blueberry iced tea lemonade and the blueberry white chocolate cold brew. Unfortunately, neither drink had much blueberry flavor. The iced tea lemonade tasted more like a classic Arnold Palmer, while the cold brew was a bit too sweet for my taste and wasn't my favorite overall. While the bakery items were good, they didn't completely wow me. That said, the Cinnamoroll collaboration was adorable and made for a fun experience.
