I've been going to different Double Dave's in Austin and Houston since the late 80s. Their pepperoni rolls are a comfort food to me. There aren't as many franchises in Houston as there used to be, so making it to the lunch buffet is a pilgrimage now, but well worth it. I'd be mournful if the chain ever disappeared entirely. I just don't like DDs. The bread is chewy and just not good. Even with the thin crust, it's unimpressive. Scrapping off the toppings and eating them alone is about all I will do with it. When it comes to the fact you can get a frozen pizza at HEB that tastes better, there is really nothing more to say here other than it's convenient. Far better options out there. read more

I went on a Sunday when they have the buffet. Ask for which days they have it and go that day. 10 bucks for all the pizza and salad bar you can eat and the pizzas are delicious. I loved the chicken alfredo barbecue and the chocolate pizza is amazing. My favorite pizza place so far. read more

If you've never been here please read first. First they told me when I walked in is ," just so you know we close in 20 min". I ordered wings so I asked for a beer. "We are not selling beer anymore". I'm ok no problem let me just have a water then. "Well many people ask for a cup for water but get soda and we use the same cups for both, so it's $2.15 for water". Finally I go to the restroom and manager doesn't wash his hands. He saw me in there so I'm sure he did it on purpose. He was upset about a big group that was there. 2nd time ordering pick-up w/ Double Dave's and decided it was time to write my review. Remember that folks, always go a few times before giving a review! Pizza's good! Now that that's out of the way...it was their customer service which set them apart from other pizza joints. My first experience was excellent. I was hoping I could use a coupon that was $13.99 for an 18" Big Dave w/ 2 free toppings. For some odd reason the code wouldn't take online, so I just put the coupon info in the notes of the order form. Unfortunately, my order went through w/o the coupon being entered. Upon pick up, the gentleman at the counter (super nice dude) apologized, offered me a free drink and told me that he'd accept the coupon on my next visit even though it was set to expire on 10/31. Very cool! My second time was yesterday. I called and ordered for pick-up. I explained to the person on the phone (Jimmy, I think his name was) about the situation w/ the coupon and he graciously accepted. I'm a Type-II diabetic, so I can't eat the regular crust and requested their wheat instead. Jimmy explained that they usually don't offer wheat crust for the Big Dave, because they only carried a small amount of the wheat dough, and they usually reserve them for medium pizzas (especially on the weekends since their dough is restocked on the weekdays). I explained to Jimmy my dietary condition and he was immediately, extremely accommodating "Oh, no problem! We got you!" So, this is what we got at DoubleDave's on Westheimer folks: Seriously awesome staff who go the extra mile to make sure you're satisfied. Fuh-riggin' awesome, gigantic 18" pizza! And, THEY CAN ACCOMMODATE DIABETICS. What more can you ask for? Kudos to the Owner, manager, and crew at Double Dave's. Y'all have an amazing team! I'll definitely be back! I'm usually not too fond of buffets but I've gone here twice so far for lunch. First time I didn't know the buffet ended at 2 pm. But the manager said we could stay and eat whatever is left on the buffet and just pay $5 along with a drink. I said I'll take it!! (Just b/c I don't have that big of an appetite anyways!) Anyways, they have a variety of pizzas to choose from. They have a little salad bar. It would be nice if they had a pasta bar. I think the quality is a lot better than Cici's, which I haven't been to in over 5 years but I don't remember loving it since I haven't been back in those 5 years! They have their famous Pepperoni rolls. I thought I would really enjoy them, but I thought they were just ok. Maybe b/c they have been sitting out there, so the dough starts getting a little tough for my liking. They have a few dessert pizzas as well...nice and cinnamony...hits the spot. I used to eat double daves all the time in the woodlands. It was my favorite pizza place. I was really excited to find that my new apartment js within the delivery zone of this location. I remember the pizza as being full of flavor, having an amazing sauce, and a crispy crust. However, this location leaves a lot to be desired. I've ordered three different times, and it's been disappointing each time. The sauce is spice-less and seems to be just tomatoes. The pizza is always bland although the crust is good. The pepperoni pizza rolls are good, a bit bland, and come with a side of diced tomatoes referred to as marinara. The dessert pizza is good though. Overall, I'll be passing on this place for the new papa murphys that opened near my house. Only downside is that they don't deliver. read more

Was not at all impressed with salad bar. $9 for buffet & drink was a little pricey but not completely absurd. First time there my husband ordered a large spinach Stromboli that was $12 not including drink while I got the buffet. As I went to the buffet, to my surprise was spinach Stromboli! This was my first time here. I went to go fill up my drink and I noticed mold on three of the spouts. I was there for about an hour and before I left the issue was STILL not fixed. There was mold on their root beer, Dr Pepper, and one other kind. I told them about it as soon as I got there and they said they would get it cleaned. They were not too busy to do so either so I believed them until I still saw the mold there before I left. No idea how long it had been on the spout but it was long enough for myself and my family. I've ordered from here a few times via uber eats and carry out and each time I ordered the buffalo chicken pizza. Each time I've ordered food from here the pizza was cooked properly and always tasted great. When I went the one time for carry out the staff were very nice. We ordered a pizza one hour prior to closing. What we received was a crumpled up pizza that was soggy and abused. Because the delivery arrived after closing, we were unable to contact them until the next day with our complaint. They in turn REFUSED to give any sort of discount "because they were contacted the next day". We paid $30 including the tip for a hot mess. Horrible. It took over an hour and a half to get my order and it was incomplete and cold when it arrived ( we ordered online). They gave me a pizza that was missing toppings and when they didn't deliver my drinks or dessert they told me that they didn't charge me for them as a favor to me. When we called to ask how they were going to fix our order (or if they would deliver the missing items) they told us it was our fault that it was wrong and that we should have called ahead to warn them that we wanted something special. I was disappointed when I found out that I was too early. But the guy at the register (I think he was the manager or owner) was so pleasant. It's been a while since I last came here, because the last time I did I realized a constant issue that I had with a gentleman, who I believed was an owner. I had come to this place no less than 4 times for the lunch buffet and noticed this very "hands on" and friendly man bussing the tables during the lunch rush. That's great, except for the fact he would pick up a dirty plate with both hands, then reach for the next plate, while the first one was still in his hands, stack it underneath and then go to the next one, and so on - creating a tower of dirty plates - sometimes 10 plates high!!!. He would clean tables like this, even with customers seated at the very tables he was cleaning, reaching over one person with his "tower o' plates" to stack on top of the next one. He would even come to my table with dirty plates from other tables to pick up my plate, subjecting me to an up close and personal view of other people's leftover crust, sauce and napkins. Gross! He had other options. He could reach in to a table with his right hand, pick up the plates and transfer them, one at a time, to his left, while leaning away from the patrons to keep the dirty plates out of the way. Or, he could just roll a bus cart through the aisles and clean tables that way. This happened on each of my visits. I wanted to say something to him, but just didn't know how to do it. So I decided to just not go there anymore. read more
