I've had their doughnuts before and I wasn't thrilled with them. Today I was walking around looking for a place to get an iced coffee, and stopped in. I ordered a cold brew and was surprised that 50 cents was added to the bill because I wanted a little cream added to it. (They don't have cream, so it was milk.) I groused a little. I paid. Did not receive my drink. Meanwhile the cashier served up $32 of doughnuts to go to the man in line behind me. I waited until this person left and then politely said, "will my drink be coming up soon?" I was given my drink. The cashier was African American. The man behind me in line who was served first was African American, and thanked the cashier profusely. I felt as if racism was happening to me-- I am white. I won't be back. read more

These donuts are so good! And pillowy soft! When you bite into them, the icing just melts in your mouth ! So delicious ! I tried a couple different flavors and I think my favorite might've been lemon poppy seed (it's hard to tell because a few of them were pretty good!) On a separate occasion I was torn between the hibiscus and I don't remember which other one but I went with the hibiscus because the girl working there said it was one of the most popular.. while it still was pillowy soft, I wasn't too much of a fan of the flavor. A beautiful looking donut but the taste doesn't live up to it for me. This is their seasonal flavor: blood orange. I remember it being sweet and tangy but the blood orange flavor was hard to capture. The frosting was a little too sweet for me and their doughnut is on the cakey side which seems to happen for all the flavors. Personally I prefer my donuts to be more glutinous and chewy. read more

Everyone speaks about Doughnut Planet which I have not had the pleasure of an introduction I have however, became firmly familiar with Dough, and their doughnuts to me are life. I bought it for a treat to have a donut and coffee for my Sunday morning but as soon as I came home, I just wanted a bite. We came here about 20 minutes before closing. There were not as many donuts to choose from which was disappointing but understandable. Even though the donuts were made around 5 PM and we were eating them at 7:45 PM,they were still very fresh and yummy. Taishon is awesome! He is so friendly and gives the best customer service. I recommend going here just to say hi to him! He took the time to recommend donuts for us to try and told us about the other sold out flavors we should consider next time. Worlds can't explain how I feel about this place! but nom nom nom is all I could tell you. This is what I call quality doughnut, reasonable at just the right cost! It's official: Dough has beat out Doughnut Plant as my favorite. This is due to the fact that while DP gets it right most of the time, Dough gets it right ALWAYS. The line is long but moves quickly. Returned for a late afternoon (5 PM) doughnut delight with a friend and split four creations: the cafe au lait, the hibiscus, the Nutella filled and the dulce de leche. First, let me just say that you should save the Nutella for last, because it is the best. The dulce de leche is also incredible in its own right, and the hibiscus is a refreshing burst of fruitiness amidst all the chocolate and other rich flavors. As for the cafe au lait, it's great, but basically just a coffee-flavored doughnut, which isn't my jam, but it may be yours. I need to mention the Nutella doughnut one last time: this thing is a godly combination of chewy, fried dough - like those Chinese doughnuts you get at a buffet, but better - and molten Nutella. We were licking the oozy remnants off the bottom of the box. I can't even. Edit 8/2018: the horchata doughnut is excellent! Boston Cream Filled Doughnut - This is my favorite one out of all the ones we have tried. It is covered in chocolate and filled with Boston cream, obviously. Luscious creamy filling. I don't know if it's the particular one we got, but it took about 3 average adult-sized bites to get to the filling. Dulce de Leche - topped with almonds. Good doughnut. I don't love it, because I don't usually like caramel-y, sticky sweet things. Still, the texture & consistency of the pillow-y doughnut is good. Passionfruit - I do usually like fruity things, especially passionfruit flavors. But since doughnuts are bread-y & passionfruit is somewhat tart, it kind of ended up tasting like a sour doughnut. I went to pick up a chocolate-mocha glazed and passion fruit cream-filled doughnuts. Plus the "babka". My experience? A larger doughnut but prefer another. Why? This has too much sugar! I found it a bit too sweet. Compared to my other favorite doughnut place, unless this was still warm from the oven, it loses the softness. This is more bread like. I took a bite of each and brought home the rest. Then I warmed it up in DEFROST setting in my microwave for just a few seconds (around 10-15) and it came out more tender - but still too sweet. It is good - but I still prefer the dough of the one that makes my creme brûlée and coconut filled doughnuts. As for the Babka, although again this needs warming up at home to appreciate the chocolate inside, to me this is more like bread with chocolate in between. The real babka had more swirls in between the bread. It's better than most but it's my #2 choice for the glazed or regular doughnut. My #3 for the cream filled one. The passion fruit filling was very fruity and excellent but also too sweet that maybe it should have had less filling like a bombolini? I've eaten enough doughnuts from Dough (by the way, in my book, it's always DOUGHnut, never DOnut, fight against the Dunkin Donuts machine, my friends!) to be able to snugly fit inside my sweatpants. Is it above and beyond your Krispy Kreme, which, though a reliable, fluffy stand-by for when you're stuck in a mall, cannot touch a good NYC doughnut? Yes. Holy hell, yes. The first point is that these doughnuts are thicc (yes, it requires that particular spelling). One of these bad boys is always 2x larger than the doughnuts I grew up eating. You really have to unhinge your jaw in order to eat. The best way to go about eating them without getting that beautiful frosting mustache under your nose is to rip them in half first. The texture is a little denser but I've always been wary of the cake versions just because of how fast they fill you up. My fondest memory is watching an obviously European family try to negotiate one doughnut, with the youngest child screaming, "America," over and over again. Yes, son, it's something in this New York water. I've never gotten a bad flavor here. Well, actually, the hibiscus one, though beautiful to look at, translates into a weird flavor that tries to be sweet, fruity, and flowery at the same time but fails at all three. I usually end up going with the cafe au lait, the dulce de leche, or the dark chocolate with sea salt. I tried a cinnamon one (not sure if they still have it, I think it was a holiday special) and almost seized up from all the Christmas-sy feelings it imparts. That, and the sugar. My limit is maybe 1.5 doughnuts before the glucose tremors hit. Don't leave without getting some kind of beverage to cut through all that delicious Dough. *Off-topic: Here's a tip for figuring out who the Grinch in your group of friends is. I was able to try a few different doughnuts since I came here with four other people. There's a big long table here and we were all able to eat and share our doughnuts. We got the following: 1) Matcha (Sugar type)- I picked this since I love anything that's matcha/green tea related. I thought that the matcha flavor was so weak that didn't really taste it at all. I was a bit disappointed. 2) Lemon poppy- It's a light glaze doughnut with lemon flavor and sprinkled with poppy seeds. Good and I tasted the lemon. 3) Hibiscus- This is probably one of the most popular flavors based on people raving about it on Yelp. I wanted to get this one, but my friend got it. The doughnut looked too pretty to eat. It's a glazed doughnut with a sweet tangy flavoring. 4) Mocha almond crush- I liked this the most actually. Delicious donuts the size of a baby's head. Also lovingly known in inner circles as the mutant donuts. When you think of superb donuts, I'd say these are the crème de la crème. They're huge, but wonderfully soft, with a slightly sweet dough that's pull-apart fun. Each donut is pillowy and yeasty, with an array of toppings that are not too sweet. With a limited selection available, I got the Salted Caramel Chocolate, Toasted Coconut, Dulce de Leche with Almonds, Cafe au Lait, and Plain Glazed. They're all delicious, especially the rich Salted Caramel Chocolate, topped with a Callebaut dark chocolate glaze you can catch your reflection on. The Dulce de Leche was also amazing, encrusted with sliced almonds for added texture. These donuts aren't greasy either, which is a fry job done right, considering how large they are and how much oil they must absorb. Walking around doing some shopping..we found ourselves in the Flatiron district during the late afternoon. Realizing that my caffeine level was dangerously low for that time of day, we started looking for a coffee shop. All of a sudden, I spot the sign DOUGH calling me over. I ask the counterperson what's their most popular and she rattles of three so I buy them all..oh and a cup of coffee to wash them down and bring my internal caffeine back to an acceptable level. Food: These doughnuts were excellent, large but light, well glazed but not overly sweet. We purchased the three that the counterperson suggested. Hibiscus which was fun but I've never actually eaten a hibiscus flower so can't vouch for the authenticity. The Cafe Au Lait which was my favorite with a crunchy topping. The Dulce de Leche topped with a yummy glaze and toasted almonds. Service: Good service. Pointed out the popular choices. I wouldn't go so far as to say there were overly friendly but it's a doughnut shop so hey. Atmosphere: Nice small shop with a rustic community table and a few chairs. We took our doughnut and coffee to go but seems like cool place to enjoy a fresh doughnut and beverage of your choice. Value: Pricier for a doughnut but not too bad considering the size and quality. They have a variety of flavors, and the prices are also very fair for the size of the donuts! I have stopped by this location numerous times. I've never had any massive crowds to get through, and the staff is pretty friendly for the most part. They are definitely the place to go if you are looking for a tasty but clearly unhealthy breakfast option. I will spare going through all of the doughnuts I've tried over my time. However the stand outs to me are the Nutella, and the mocha-almond crunch. There is usually some rotational offerings in there as well so there will usually be something new to try if you go in semi-frequently. The doughnuts themselves are great. Some of the best quality and ingredients make it almost guaranteed you won't be disappointed. Seating is sparse. There is a big communal table so if you are just going to eat and run this isn't an issue. Not the most comfortable spot to be sitting for extended amounts of time. Coffee is pretty good as well. After trekking though manhattan on the hunt for some pen refills, I stumbled upon this place and was so happy I stepped in. The space is very cozy with a communal table and a table at the window with stools. The doughnut selection was top notch with some flavors I would never have thought of such as hibiscus and passion fruit. They were pretty big donuts so I opted for just one passion fruit to stay and 4 doughnut holes to go. It was all under $6. I settled into a seat at the communal table with my book and spent the next 20 min recharging and highly enjoying my treat. I keep coming back to here expecting to be impressed and maybe I just need to lower my expectations. However, the things here that disappoint me are the basics. The donuts have good flavor and are usually quite beautiful but the texture of the dough and the way is ages on the shelf is disappointing. The seating area is quite perfunctory. There are seats but they are uncomfortable and the table area to seat count ratio is skewed in favor of a larger table which means the space is cramped. While this is very much a working bakery, the space feels a little gritty every time I come in here. And the donuts are just as well to take on a walk rather than staying here. The coffee is a reasonable price and they do fill your order quickly which is probably because they are just pulling the cold donuts to serve. We ordered three doughnuts for the two of us which is way too much because these doughnuts are huge!!! My favorite is always the cafe au lait and my fiancé loves the cinnamon sugar doughnut. If you're trying to find the best donut in NYC, you're surely going to get a whole bunch of different answers. First time I tried Dough was at the Brooklyn Smorgasburg. However, seeing the new Manhattan location was a real treat. It's walking distance from Union Square and seeing a place with lines always make you want to join and be a part of the experience. Dough has a nice and unique variety. What's great about Dough is the consistency of the... well dough. It's huge and not too dense. It's not overly sweet because the glaze and frosting helps with that. Hibiscus - tastes very tangy and berry. Wasn't my favorite. Chocolate - so simple it was one of the better ones. Salty chocolate - nice rich dark chocolate but really didn't taste the salt. Pumpkin - personal favorite just because it's pumpkin. Cafe Latte - didn't really taste the coffee Almond crunch - another delicious chocolate one. Half dozen for two people and it was devoured in 2 days. Beautiful and good tasting artisan doughnuts. Favorite doughnut place so far! The icing tastes like a mix of cheesecake and cake icing, and the doughy bread was soft and had a decent fried taste to it that wasn't overpowering. The Green Velvet Doughnut wasn't mouthwatering though- I ate about a fourth and then saved the rest of the ginormous pastry for later. However, the nutella doughnut seemed to be quite popular and may be better. It would be nicer though if they gave you actual plates for the doughnuts, rather than paper ones. Whoever isn't a fan of this place needs to reassess life ASAP. It's unreal. You'll never have or want Dunkin Donuts or Krispy Kreme again (and if you do, you prob also like Olive Garden over local Italian spot. Yes I'm judging you aggressively). I came here with some pretty high expectations. Got one of their more famous Salted Caramel Chocolate donuts. The thing I noticed was that the donut seemed to be a bit more airy than others. It was also larger than most. As for the flavoring, I really only tasted the chocolate. I love caramel and I couldn't taste any of that. They sprinkle some small pieces of salt, but I just really wouldn't consider this salted caramel. Probably not coming back read more
