My 22 year old garage door was not opening or closing using the garage door opener. Door was noisy before it stopped working. My remotes were no longer working. I called the main number and received a call back from Wellington, long time service technician. He stayed in close touch from his mobile phone and showed up the next morning at 8:30 AM along with his assistant. They stopped by enroute to two garage door installation jobs. Wellington and his helper fixed all the malfunctions in about 45 minutes. Efficient, knowledgeable, courteous, and explained what went wrong and how it was fixed. I am very satisfied with the service. I thought the cost was fair. Experts take less time to get things done. read more

No customer service We have used Dougs garage door service for years and they have always been helpful, thorough, and wonderful to work with. Fast forward to today -- after a couple of calls to finally get someone on the phone they came out to go over both of our doors and fine tune them and we were also having problems with the outside entry pad on one door. The service tech that came out barely worked on either of our doors and he just said we have to change the battery on the key pad. Never looked at the seals or oiled any of the rollers. And the keypad still does not work even after I changed the battery because according to the tech "they don't do that part". So after $$ later my doors and keypad are the same as before the tech arrived. He said we can call them back out to look at the keypad again but who knows if they will actually do any work this time. No thanks. I only gave them 2 stars because the tech was on time. This is not the same Doug's as in years past. read more

What a great contractor! I spoke with Doug at 5:15 pm today, he was on his way home and was passing by my house anyway. He stopped by 5 minutes after we hung up and fixed my door in less than 20 minutes. I was expecting the typical contractor game where you have to wait a week to get on his schedule and then he gives you a 4 hour window that he'll show up. But with Doug, it was painless... I called to make an appointment for service last week. Set it up for Monday morning. The lady on the phone said they would call to confirm and confirm details a day in advance. Being that it was monday, I wasn't sure if she meant weekend or on Friday they would call, but they called none of those days. Monday rolls around and I am home from work and no call or anything, so I call them and no answer, leave a message. I just want to verify if they are coming or not because they forgot the call the day before that I was assured they always do. Called every hour until the afternoon, gave up. Nobody there, wasted day. Unprofessional waste of time. Would never deal with them again. I'm sure they'll reply to this with an excuse. read more

I had a broken spring last year and I got help right away. This is after another garage door company "fixed" it (gouging me in the process). Doug's son did a fantastic job and at a reasonable price. I was VERY happy with the service. They help a lot of people in this neighborhood in SW Austin. Fast forward to now. My garage door opens halfway - enough to get the sedan out but low enough to leave a mark on your head when you don't pay attention walking out. I called on a Thursday and left a message asking for a service call. Called again on Tuesday and the woman who answered said, "Yeah, you called last week. I gave it to one of the team. Just wait and they'll call you." It's now Thursday and I've heard nothing. I guess I can only say that Doug's does great work - if you can get ahold of them. read more

I called Doug's office and explained my garage door problem and was told I would get a call back to schedule a time. I received a text from a young guy who told me to text him my address, and that he'd come by on Monday to give me an estimate. When he never called, texted, or came by on Monday, I texted him back and his was response was "Who is this?". Fast forward three days, and Doug and his assistant show up and spend less than five minutes telling me that I didn't need any work done to my garage door. Despite not needing work done, he had his assistant crank his screw driver two times (I remember him saying "Two times boss?"). Less than five minutes he gave me a whopping bill called a service charge for showing up. Unfortunately they NEVER communicated to me that I'd be charged for them coming over. I've 100% remodeled my home, and this is the first company to ever change me for what should have been a quote. I could not believe it. I would NEVER recommend Doug's garage door service. read more

Doug was fantastic. We have used his company many times for service over several years. He is kind and professional and whip smart about garage doors. His son Clint who has taken over is not! He is condescending, sarcastic, and unkind. The service men who came out to look at the door were unskilled in comparison with Doug. Everything they told me was contradicted by Clint in his follow up call. The thought of taking another phone call with this man on the other end of the phone is enough for me to say no thanks. I called someone else who actually will cost a little more to install my mom's opener--worth it. I guess Clint thinks having a lot of business right now makes courtesy an after thought. What a shame. Garage service tech showed up on time Friday and repaired my garage door in good functioning order. I had a garage door emergency so I called and left a voicemail on a Sunday morning. Monday afternoon after I received no returned phone call I called again and spoke to a secretary who promised to pass my information on. By Wednesday I had yet to receive a phone call so I called again. This time the woman who answered promised to give my info to Doug himself. Friday morning came and still no call so I called three other local companies. Within the hour all three had called back and by Friday night I had new garage door tracks and a new garage door opener. I'm not sure how this company works but they don't seem to care about getting new customers. They get two stars because the woman that answered was extremely kind, empathetic, and polite. read more

I was recently referred to Doug via a brother-in-law who used him a couple of years ago. My experience was completely different than the previous review. Doug was very professional and offered me a couple of choices to resolve my garage door issues. I really appreciated the fact he tried to fix the existing motor rather than try to automatically up-sell me to a new unit. He even made an extra trip to go find the exact motherboard for my old unit. That was extra effort you don't see very often from repairmen. In the end, he had to replace the whole motor but I really liked the fact he tried everything to keep the replacement costs low. I was glad to see good old-fashioned service still exists! A little over 2 years ago, they came out and changed our garage door and spring. Yesterday, my 2 year old spring snapped like a piece of plastic. I called Doug's Garage Service 2 times and left messages to discuss a warranty and no one has returned my call. Today, another company came out and told me the spring that had been installed 2 years ago had been spray painted to make it look new, when in fact it was used and old. One of the biggest problems I have with this company is that they will not return my phone calls. What good is a warranty if you can't talk to anybody? I told him the issue (remotes not working) and he said he'd meet me at the house with a new lift OR some old circuit boards to fix the problem. This past Friday, my wife and son heard a loud BANG type sound near the front of our house. They thought something fell down or hit our house and couldn't for the life of them figure out what the sound was. Well, I came home from work around 5:45PM and tried to open the garage door using my remote. Well, the door started to open, but would only open 1/2 way. I kept trying and trying, but it would not open more than 1/2 way so I gave up and called my wife. She was able to open the door using the panel inside the garage. Anyway, when I got in the garage, my wife noticed that one of the 2 door springs was snapped in two. That explained what the sound was that she and my son heard earlier and why the door wouldn't open all the way but 1/2 way. I asked her to go to social media to find someone to come out to replace the spring. A couple of her friends in her social circle recommended Doug's. So, she called and got a woman that said she would contact someone to see if they could help. Mind you this was after 6:00PM now on a Friday night! Clint, Doug's son I believe, called back not more than 15 minutes later. My wife told him the situation. He asked for our address and said that he could come over the next morning, as our house happened to be near where he would be in the morning. Well, he came and and replaced both springs on our garage and even sold us a new remote opener since one of ours was defective as it would take 3 tries for it to activate the opener. If I could give this company more than 5 stars, I would. I called them with an emergency and they got here right away. The owner was very nice on the phone and the two men he sent to my home, Lamar and Wellington, were respectful and professional. They fixed my door on the spot and I did not have to wait several days for my door to be fixed because they weren't prepared or didn't have a part, etc. Part of the pulley and motor came out the wall and they placed a whole new wall anchor and secured it,the right way. I highly recommend Doug's GDS, they were a pleasure to work with and they provided honest fair prices. They didn't try to talk me into a bunch of frivolous stuff I didn't need. The spring on my garage door broke on a Saturday morning, called Monday morning for an appt. Doug was able to come the next morning and replaced the spring in about 20 minutes. He and his helper even helped me lift the door manually before starting the job so we could get our car out of the garage. Very reasonable price compared to other quotes I got. Doug installed the garage doors when our house was built in 2007/8. When one of the door side rails bent and failed, I placed a call on Sunday evening. Expecting to get an answering machine, I was shocked to the point of stuttering when a "live" person answered the call. The person took the message, and at 8 am the next morning--Presidents' Day holiday--Doug called back. After explaining the problem, Doug said that he would be out the next day--Tuesday--and would call in advance to give us a time frame. Tuesday morning 8 am, Doug called to tell us an eta. It is now 10 am. Doug has come and gone, the door is repaired, additional doors lubricated, and a VERY reasonable charge paid to him. WONDERFUL SERVICE. WONDERFUL COMMUNICATION. WELL DONE! read more

This company was recommended to my neighbor, who recently moved to Austin. It appears they are trying to take advantage of someone who lives alone, has limited English proficiency, and is not familiar with how garage door openers work. So I am posting this on her behalf. 1) They quoted her an amount over the phone and told her they would credit the service charge if they did subsequent work. But when they did the work, they charged her more than the quote AND would not credit the service charge she had already paid. 2) They replaced the garage door opener motor BEFORE diagnosing what was wrong. It turned out the motor was working and that wasn't what was causing the problem. But they didn't tell her this until AFTER they had removed her garage door opener, installed (and charged her for) a new one, and taken her working garage door opener away. 3) After they installed the garage door opener, she saw the technician REMOVING the keypad without telling her what they were doing. When she asked, the technician told her the garage door opener they installed didn't come with a keypad. Isn't this something you would discuss with the client BEFORE doing the work? 4) When she said she wouldn't pay until she was sure everything was in working order, the technician threatened to call the police. This is nothing short of intimidation. There was more that happened that I'm not including here. But, needless to say, my friend is very frustrated because now she is being charged more than they quoted, or a new garage door opener that she didn't need, and that does not work with her keypad. She will likely report them to the Better Business Bureau and dispute the charge. read more
