This is not only a 24 hour food joint, but it also sells alcohol until 12:45 am. what's not to love when you're young? I do agree with most of the reviewers however, you should stick to the simple stuff on the menu. Breakfast, appetizers and sandwiches are just fine. The staff was amazingly warm and welcoming. The mixed drinks were good and excellently priced. If you don't like some of the resident diners, then ask to be put somewhere quiet. My group and I have never had a bad experience. read more

The quality of this food was probably the second worst I have ever eaten in my whole life. The first was a kidney pie I was forced to eat from the British dining facility in Afghanistan after our U.S. DFAC contract expired. It tasted like what I imagine cat food would taste like. I would like to personally meet somebody who gave this place more than one star. I will personally pay for your meal just to watch you eat it. What a wonderful home town type diner. The portions were large. Breakfast was so good and filling. The waitresses were so friendly. I am planning my next trip and will be stopping there again. Absolutely the most gross place in town! Food is just awful. We were sat and then waited a good 20 minutes and no one acknowledged us until we were walking out the door. They don't serve breakfast all day. What kind of diner doesn't serve breakfast all day? The time that we actually got served everything was over-salted or burnt and just terrible. It looks cool from the outside, inside it looks and feels gross and dirty. Ordered the crab Mac n Cheese, please pass this dish up. It sounds interesting, it's just a bowl of salt mush. We are there last year and it was good food and service. We went 2 days ago and the food was good but the waitress was a hateful old hag! We went this morning and the waitress was again ugly right away after setting up the table so we turned around and left. Never again! We drove down the road to the Countrie Eatery. I have been familiar with the Hollywood Diner for at least 50 years. I was amazed when I returned to Dover after many, many years, and found the place completely renovated. It looked clean and all the flies were gone! Some of the food is good; some is not. I have distinguished between the good and bad, and know what to order. The staff is friendly and attentive. So, call me crazy...I LOVE the place. Except for the small, pseudo juke boxes. I remember when each booth had a juke box of its own. I will continue to go back again and again. read more

After a bad breakfast experience at a near-by big-name place, we wanted a different place for breakfast. We stopped in here for a late Saturday night supper to see what it was like. It is 'squeaky-clean' 24 hr. diner which has apparently been in business for a long time (I think I saw a sign that said 1954?). The prices were a bit higher than I am personally used to, but it is a very touristy area, so they are really a bit lower than other places with similar menus but 'bigger names'. It is not at all fancy, but we were very happy with supper: patty melts, french dip & cold roast beef sandwich. There was a wide selection, with any of it available at any time of the day. The food was much better than average. Our waitress was great and knew the menu well. She was 'expecting', and was as quick, happy & chipper as you could ever hope for, especially on a late shift! We spoke with the hostess/waitress about a group of 7 the next morning, and were told it would be fine. We arrived the next morning (Sunday) at about 9:30. The place was busy, but low & behold, the same hostess was back on, recognized us at first glance and had a big table ready for us in minutes, even though they were pretty busy. Our waiter, Nick, arrived promptly and returned with coffees in minutes and then brought us a thermal pot. He was back at exactly the right time to take our orders. I have to admit, I was skeptical at first - he took our orders with no notepad. We had a few special requests, such as crisp bacon, dark toast for some and different breads for others, and 1 person ordered 3 items off the a la cart menu. Our breakfast arrived very quickly, especially considering how many tables were seated. I truly did not expect everything to arrive correctly, but it did! Exactly right for everyone. They don't use trays to carry orders out, so he made a couple trips, but nothing suffered for it - nothing had been under heat lamps for more than a few moments. The toast was hot and crisp, and the requests for 'dark' were good. The eggs were all cooked correctly and piping hot. So, hats off to the Waitstaff and to the Cooks!! They all worked together superbly, on 2 different days, 2 different meals, and took a large table in stride. Everyone in the party was impressed. Three of them are locals (well, 20 miles away), and will definitely be here again. If we travel there again, we will too! read more

I go here for breakfast regularly. The food is just what you expect from a diner, but not greasy. Coffee flows freely and the service is fast and friendly. It's a great place to hang out with a friend or two and catch up. Highly recommended. read more

Place is definitely below average for a diner. Decent food back in the day when I used to dine with my fraternity. But my last few experiences were quite atrocious. Food was half cooked and my waitress reaked of marijuana to the point I almost left the establishment but chose not to because I wanted my food so I could ask for a take home. We were served breakfast that was not edible.It tasted like it had been cooked hours before and reheated in a microwave. we just drank our coffee and tea that were fine. Horrible service, cold food & extremely rude wait staff! After waiting 20 minutes to place our order, we received our cold food another 30 minutes after that. Oh, and one of the meals had an added bonus of hair in it!! No attempt to make anything right when asked to take the dish away. Overall, just rude, rude people. Felt like a bother to be a paying customer in their establishment. Seems you get what you get in this place and you're just expected to deal with it. SKIP THIS ONE - THERE ARE OTHERS IN DOVER THAT ARE MUCH BETTER I've been to this diner a number fo times especially on Sunday AM after Church. Since the killing of the owner the place has gone steadily down hill. Today it took almost 2 hrs to serve 6 people; At 12 noon (LUNCH time) they did not have any coleslaw for the Ruben sandwich or the side for my sandwich [Menu= all sandwiches come with french fries, cole slaw and pickle] and I only got the french fries. This has to have been one of our worst dining experiences EVER. Ordered. Waited 30 minutes before waitress came out and said they were out of our appetizer. Waited another 25 minutes for our meal. Mom's patty melt had no cheese. My veggie burger was mush and they forgot the mustard I asked for. Husband's salad never came until after his entree and then without the dressing. Asked for pie for dessert - coconut cream and chocolate cream. No crust. A quarter inch if that of filling and the rest was whipped topping. Two hours we'll never get back. Felt sorry for other diners who waited just as long. One old man after 45 min. told the waitress he would have to get his meal to go since he couldn't drive after dark. 15 minutes later she brought him the food on a plate and then made him wait again to go get a take out container. (It was dark by then). Then when I went to pay, the cashier walked away. The next waitress scanned my ticket and then had to run after someone to give them back their credit car. I hate to do it Hollywood Diner but.....I went to eat last Thursday. I usually order breakfast which seems to be their strength but tonight I decided to order dinner. I originally wanted the chicken fried steak but I was informed they were out of steak. I opted for the chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes and cabbage (Since that was the only side outside of coleslaw and applesauce?) My other half ordered the stuffed shrimp with mashed potatoes (only one side for $17.99), My little one...Pancakes and Bacon...great choice kiddo. We all receive our food. My other half's face Immediately drops. Here on a piece of lettuce, sits quarter sized shrimp with about a nickel sized amount of "stuffing". My plate looks amazing.....mashed potatoes with gravy, the chicken fried crispy the cabbage....eh...like cabbage...then I dig in. The cabbage is FLAVORLESS, BLAND, MUSHY and GROSS. My mashed potatoes...STRAIGHT FROM THE BOX AND not the good kind (not that any boxed mashed potatoes are good). The chicken...seasoned ok but DRY DRY DRY!! My other half opted to send his plate back and order breakfast, but not after a guilt trip from the waitress. She actually tried to explain the HORRID excuse for a meal infront of him. The soup that was supposed to be included in his meal, they actually CHARGED him for since he sent the food back. It is OBVIOUS that this establishment has LOST its familiar charm, PRIDE for good food and overall LOVE for the community. How can you serve this?? How? Hollywood Diner you have REALLY fallen off.
