Umi is one of the best AYCE buffets we ever went to since we moved to our new home in Virginia 2023. We found this buffet seven months ago in September 2024 after visiting a military base in Dover and arriving in Delaware for the 46th Annual Nanticoke Indian Pow Wow. This buffet was an excellent option for lunch. I would be delighted to return and sample their dinner offerings. During lunch, the Taiwanese chicken and stuffed scallops particularly impressed me. Although I have had these dishes before, these were the best I have tasted thus far. The other entrée selections were also very good and exceptionally fresh. The soup was truly remarkable. The staff was extremely attentive and quickly removed empty plates and refilled drinks promptly. The overall look on the inside was impressive and was clean. Umi was a nice place, but now they're just overpriced for what they have. At the very least, they could serve hot snow crab legs, but they serve them ice cold. They did have hot pots, but they got rid of them, so cold crab legs is all you can have. Their food is pretty good most days, but not really consistent. read more

I gave this restaurant a one star review because I took my kids here on Sunday sept 7th around 6pm. I was enjoying my food until I bit into the coconut shrimp and came in contact with a large piece of metal. I was upset and my tooth hurts that I couldn't even enjoy the rest of my food especially crabs. I spoke to the manager and gave him the piece of metal. He said he was nearly impossible for that to happen and that it must of been a child. that makes nonsense to me because the metal was actually inside the shrimp. I regret letting my sister-in-law talk us into Umi Sushi & Seafood Buffet. Seating was fast, but my concerns started immediately when I couldn't find a hand-wash or sanitizer station. The food was hit or miss both flavor and preparation-wise -- hot fried fish, cold-chicken‐on-stick, some decent sushi, and some that tasted way too fishy. The final straw? A piece of salmon that literally tasted like dirt. I had to spit it out, and it completely ruined my appetite. Ended the meal with pre-packaged ice cream, the only "safe" choice. First off, it's an all you can eat buffet. And for a buffet, it is very good. I found all the sushi & Sashimi tasted very fresh; was properly made & articulated. There are many dishes of clam, shrimp, muscles, oysters, and chilled crab legs. You will also find the standard fare of Chinese and Japanese entrées, along with soups, and the standard fruit, pudding, cake, pie cookies & packaged ice cream for dessert. The place is clean (with odd gear wallpaper), and some seafood decor. The staff is very friendly and attentive. On the weekends. they will serve the chopped up lobster in its shell (which is challenging when looking for some meat) . Soft drinks are included with your meal. No alcohol. It hasn't been overly crowded on the four visits we have made. It's $25.99 a person and as long as the quality is kept up, it's still worth it. I think the best feature here is the sushi and sashimi. We had such high hopes for this particular restaurant but, sadly, they fell short. The atmosphere is festive like any Japanese restaurant. The food looks amazing and some of it truly was. The Chili shrimp were large and flavorful. The sushi is pretty with a very wide variety to chose from. The oysters on the half shell were really good. The crab legs on the chill table were huge and looked amazing. Unfortunately, they smelled like the inside of a dumpster. The crawfish were mushy and tasted like they had been cooking for two days. The ribs were good. I didn't eat any of the steak or dessert. They had some drinks there where the hotpot was supposed to be. I asked the waitress what it was but she didn't understand what I was asking and just kept saying yes. Most of the offerings were very salty. We drove an hour just to try out this place. I will save gas money and just eat closer to home. Maybe it was an off day but for a Thursday afternoon there weren't many people there. read more

Went there 02/20/26. Started with the two primary indicators of any Asian buffet; the soups. The egg drop soup was well beyond overly salty, making it inedible. The Hot & Sour Soup was also completely out of balance and had way too much white vinegar in it, rendering it inedible as well. Whomever made both obviously didn't do a taste test before putting it out on the floor. It also points to a lack of managerial quality control. They had a few decent things, like snow crab legs, shrimp, dim sum, however I didn't sample any of their Sushi. The prepped sauces were okay. Pretty much everything could be generally rated as good or 'just okay'. Certain utensil items weren't logically arranged with where the corresponding food items were located, leaving one to have to chase around looking for things. Compared to other buffets in the local area, this one is way overpriced, at $29.99 per adult, for the average to below-average quality level of the food offered. on a 1-10 scale, I'd score Umi as a solid 4. I love this place. It a good price for all it offers, I enjoy the sashimi although I don't like the little plates they use for it. Was better before they started doing that, it's cumbersome to use them. They have hot pot now included in the price! It's small and the selection is still small for what you can cook with it but I was so happy and enjoyed it so much. What they had was really good, and what a pleasant surprise! Between the hot pot and the sushi and sashimi I didn't eat much more (I did enjoy some crab too) but they do have tons of hot foods too like veggies, noodles, meat dishes and so on. I like the coconut shrimp and the pork belly. I wish they had more options for desert that I enjoy...they use to have a cheese cake I loved but I never see it anymore. Tender and well flavored; but that is well the alkalaides stop. Their seafood was the nastiest stuff I have ever tasted. One of the items that made me upset was the salmon. I think it was wild caught, skin on, and not only was it overly-fishy, it tasted bad.
