Great experience here! The lady who took our order was friendly and helpful as we decided what we wanted. We both chose the after Thanksgiving sandwich which we were told was the house specialty. The sandwich was large and filling. Prices were reasonable for the location. Food was brought out to us as they were taking necessary Covid precautions. It was a decent serving size. Service was quick. No seating area but we grabbed a bench right outside. We also ordered the lobster roll because we have been trying them all around town. We were looking for an authentic deli, and we have no complaints about the quality of what we ate. In fact, the rye bread was very good and fresh. However, they nickel-and-dimed us at every turn. We got a pastrami sandwich on rye, pasta salad, garden salad, and two drinks and the total came to $35. The worst part was when we got back to our cottage and found that they had failed to include the mustard that was an up-charge. I've never had pastrami without mustard until this deli made that mistake. I don't usually leave negative reviews, but between the exorbitant prices and the missing mustard that we had paid extra to get, I felt as if I had to give others some advance warning. We ordered the real turkey sandwich on wheat bread and it came with tomato lettuce and provolone cheese. The sandwich certainly was enough to feed both of us as we each had a half. It had several slices of real turkey and provolone cheese the bread was fresh and delicious. My wife ordered her sandwich and decided to wait outside while it was being made. The roll was decent and enjoyable as any lobster roll would be, but it was not one of the best lobster rolls I've had throughout the state of Maine. My wife and I visited Downeast deli during our recent trip to Acadia. They had a long line due to a cruise ship that docked, but the staff moved through the line pretty quickly and with grace I might add. We had the lobster roll, clam chowder, lobster stew and the blueberry pie. All were fantastic! I thoroughly enjoyed the stew first time trying it... Do not sleep on this place! It was recommended to us by the parking attendant. This was a great spot for lunch and their lobster roll was only $20! We grabbed ours and too it to the park to eat with a view. If you can catch them early enough to snag a brownie, trust me you want to it is definitely a top 5 brownie for me and my group stopped by once more on our way out of town. In a city where food is priced on the high side, the downeast deli was an affordable option for our family that was super satisfying and (mostly) healthy! For under $50, we fed 3 people very well for a casual picnic dinner. This included two amazing sandwiches, an out-of-this-world chicken avocado wrap (highly recommend!), a loaded baked potato, and a great slice of blueberry pie. Now keep in mind, I mentioned under $50 for dinner, but in truth, this meal fed us for lunch the next day, as we had a fridge in our hotel room. Great to have this option in BH! Our go to place when we want to have a picnic lunch near the pier to end the day. Place your order anytime, and they will have it all packed and ready for you by the time you designate. Apparenlty it's the best lobster roll here...and I almost have to agree...they offer 2-3 styles of lobster roll. everything from naked to the classic to one sprinkled with some tarragon. I love that their lobster isn't drenched in mayo but just touched. And they don't chop up the lobster meat either and you get whole knuckels and claws. The sandwich comes with a bag of chips and pickles too. They also make a kick ass "lobster stew". It's essentailly this heavy cream laden lobster broth with HUGE whole pieces of again claws, tails and nuckles. We were quite surprised at how much lobster meat was in it for the small price of the stew. This was a great find! My husband and I were heading into the park for a day of hiking and wanted to grab some sandwiches to bring with us. The employees were super friendly and took our orders being patient to list all their options for us. Before I could finish putting my wallet away our sandwiches were ready.
