Happens to be that 4 months after she started her treatment doctor's schedule changed to a single day that doesn't work with my work schedule anymore and was not even notified about it ahead of time. SWINDLERS! They give you treatments without your prior consent and as you walk out they surprise you with unexpected charges. I refused to pay for extra irrigation I did not request nor did I give my prior consent. They developed a plan to get their revenge, they referred me to THEIR periodontist, he wanted to charge me over 5,000 for deep cleaning. I refused thinking, I will take care of it on my own by seeking other options, and seek a 2nd. opinion, that was last week. Yesterday I received a letter refusing to provide me with dental services at their office and canceled me after over 20 years of being with them, now that Dr. Verdugo has retired. I guess they now only accept humans they can they can manipulate or swindle into emptying their wallets. I was checking all the fees they charged my insurance and within the same month they billed my insurance for the same treatment 3 days apart. I wish I could give them a Zero. The only reason why I take my children there is because it is one of the few places my insurance carrier covers. The work never gets done. They keep giving us appointments and fail to perform the work. It has taken them over a year to try to get my insurance to approve the removal of wisdom teeth from my two older kids. Took my daughter in for a cleaning today. My daughter was not looking forward to it. Prior to getting to the office my daughter was nervous she said "I hope they are nice and gentle, I hate the dentist". By the time they were done with my daughter she said "wow that wasn't so bad at all". I must say we have to give it to Kimberly the assistant. I LOVE IT!!! My doctor, Dr. Khorsandi is an amazing Doctor. I didn't know I had a gum disease that my prior doctor who I had been going to at another office for 10 years neglected to tell me. I came hear first thanks to this amazing friend who recommended me. I decided to get a second and third opinion (because in reality you have to always double check) and decided that Dr. Khorsandi was right for me. He was so attentive to my needs and concerns, he took the time to walk me through everything and even told me to talk it through with my husband just so I could feel comfortable. I have been a dental patient @ Downey Dental Center for some time, but this is the first time meeting up with Dr. Khorsandi, S. I needed to get a tooth extracted due to infection....as anxious as I was before the procedure, Rest Assure, Dr. Khorsandi is an Excellent dental doctor. Pain was Never an issue, and even though the seeing and smelling of such procedure was present, Pain Was NOT!! Even during procedure he asked twice about how I was feeling (pain), if I requested another shot, no questions asked. This is one of the worst places to take your kids to see the dentist. If you can get them to keep their appointment and not cancel on you they treat you like garbage because they don't want to be there with you. My child has autism and they worked her up and then made it worse. They then filed a complaint against my husband with the insurance company so they wouldn't have to see them again. I guess it's easier than having to cancel all the time. They also improperly bill and over bill for services so check your bills and double check your insurance claims. Dr. Khorsandi is an excellent periodontist who is kind, soft spoken, thorough and gentle with his patients. His dental Assistants are all capable and knowledgeable in their field. I have not been a patient here for years but my whole family used to go here. I actually flew out from D.C. to come get treatment here because they said I needed a root canal when I had an issue with a filling. I got the root canal like they said and ended up getting a horrible infection that required my tooth to be extracted, needing a bone graft, and getting an implant. That would have been bad enough except I think they are pushing root canals for no particular reason. My mom had a similar issue with them where they told her she needed a root canal. The tooth with the root canal got infected, she needs an extraction, bone graft, and implant. Sound familiar? Then, my sister was told she needs a root canal. She never even needs a filling. I've also had the issues with the payments and being taken into that little room where they tell you all the things you "need done" and need to pay for. Been coming to this dental office for over 10+ years, unfortunately my experience has gotten so bad that I am now looking for a new dentist. It started off small like not wanting to look up my son's insurance that I needed to have a card. The person behind the desk didn't know that I work in HR so I know how benefits work and didn't know my ex-husband works for county so we know what you can do to look up someone's insurance. Then it was not honoring what my kids' insurance plan covers. First it was we don't do silver fillings. Then another assistant tells us we do you just need to ask for them. Then it's the doctor recommends 2 times a year visit but my insurance covers for 3 cleanings a year will you not allow us to book the appointment for the cleaning? No the doctor only wants to see them 2 times a year. It is very sad that the industry is about making money and obviously they lose money on preventative care. read more

Worst customer service I've ever gotten. I made an appointment for an exam and teeth cleaning and waited more than 2 months to get in. Then when I did get in I didn't get the cleaning, they told me they hadn't gotten authorization. I've never had to get separately authorization once my insurance was verified. I've now waited another month and gotten notice from the insurance company that both authorizations have come through and still haven't heard from the scheduling office. I've called to make an appointment for my daughter and without getting any of her info... the receptionist was already rejecting me an appointment until she called my insurance to verify she was assigned there and would call me back within 24hrs. This review goes for who ever process referrals to insurance! Took my son last Monday due to pain, of course Dr noticed and right away told assistant that he needed to be referred to pediatric dentist since they don't specialize in kids as much. He also prescribed an antibiotic. I follow up with insurance on Thursday regarding referral to find out that they had not received anything (already after 4 pm, another day gone). Follow up on Friday and still nothing. Friday night my son is in intense pain. Call my insurance at 11 pm, Luckily they have a Dr you can skype with and was able to prescribe him something for the pain. Monday morning call Insurance to check if they received request. They did and tell me why didn't they call over the phone the same day due to urgency it would of been approved over the phone! Insurance Representative does me the favor to call them and approves it in 4 mins. I basically had to do Downey Dentals Job since they were to lazy to do it right the 1st time. They definitely lost me and my whole family as patients now. My daughter needs braces and I was going to pay out of pocket I'll definitely be taking my $4000 they quoted me else where. To the Dr's their, employees like this make your business look bad and cause for patients like us decide to not go back. Should really get on your employees to their job right or maybe just replace them with someone that would appreciate the job and actually do something. read more

TERRIBLE dental office with the worse customer service I have ever experienced. Long story short, I went in for dental work, and came out with the worst experience. I'm calling out "Anna" the office manager and billing person from this office who has been incredibly rude, lied to me and has disregarded my attempt to speak to her regarding my billing issue. Thee last time I spoke to her she told me that I dont understand and to call my insurance office instead. I have insurance yet everything I was quoted for, Anna told me that the insurance would not cover any of my dental work. I learned that this was a lie once I spoke to my dental insurance. I was quoted a specific amount for my dental work, yet Anna NEVER explained to me the "extra" fees that were added to my bill. I never approved any of these extra fees. I'm disputing $500 of my $1100 bill but no one at the office will help me, so now I have no choice but to leave this review and report this company to the Better Business Bureau. Each time I ask to speak to Anna's boss, everyone I speak to says she is the boss and I cant speak to anyone else. This is BS! I'm calling out Dr. Farzad who is the business owner. If you care about your patients, I'm willing to speak to you to resolve this matter. Anna is well aware of who I am and has my information. I have been taken fully advantage of! I had a contradictory experience at Downey Dental Center. Bottom line: 1. Front desk: helpful, friendly, accommodating, understanding 2. Dental service: POOR. I was there for a first time visit, and I waited 30 minutes in the chair for the dentist only for him to walk in, GLANCE at my X-rays using the overhead lighting (not using the typical back-lit glass screen for x-ray examination), and spend 2 minutes poking around in my mouth. That's it. He didn't mention anything about (or seem to notice at all) the decalcification in my back molar that every other dentist I've seen has noticed and discussed with me. I'm honestly afraid he could have missed a cavity or something else important because he spent so little time with me. 3. Dental hygiene: Somewhat accommodating, but NOT THOROUGH. The guy scraped my teeth for about 1-2 minutes. Then the hygienist attempted to floss my teeth....but she missed teeth and failed to actually get the floss below the gum line! And the polishing was pretty sub-par too. She spent about 2 minutes doing it. Typically all my other dentists/hygienists spend a good 4-5 minutes polishing my teeth, and then another 1-2 minutes flossing them thoroughly. 4. Overall procedure for getting an appointment: was way too complicated, long, and vague. If you're a first time patient, first you have to fill out paperwork (in the office!) before they will even SCHEDULE you an appointment. But before they even do that, they have to process your paperwork, double check your insurance....and THEN they will call you to schedule you (takes about a week or two just until they will open up their calendar for you!). Once you have an appointment....BEWARE...a cleaning is NOT included! Your first visit is just X-rays and an "exam" (way too short and un-thorough). Then they say they will have to SCHEDULE you for a cleaning on a different day (typically 1-2 weeks later!!!). Mind you: I've had numerous first-time appointments, and I have never had an experience like this. Typically dentists schedule Xrays, Exam, and Cleaning all on the same visit, and the dentists actually LOOK at your teeth! I cannot say I feel confident in the dentists' and hygienists' prognosis on my dental health. If you can avoid it....DO NOT GO HERE. read more
