The owner Sal called me and after me trying to figure out why they could not maintain my pool clean, Sal the owner said "you know what clean your own fu*king pool" and hung up. After a recent experience, I thought I'd share and maybe save someone time and money if they are looking for a pool cleaner or be on the look out if you currently use them.. I just had the worst service from Dowmey Pool store. Come to notice the past 2 weeks the pool guy from there was doing less than a half fast job. He scrubbed one side of pool and just tossed by mobile floor cleaner in the pool and left. I come home to see it still dirty except for a small 2x2 spot and that is because the mobile cleaner doesn't work so we don't use it but he thought he'd just toss it in and leave. I could that myself if that the services I wanted. So the pool gets worse until the following week he comes back again and does the same thing. My GF mother saw him do the exact same thing, only this time the mobile cleaner isn't around because I threw it away, so he scrubs half a wall and tells her to tell us to just out the mobile cleaner in So now the pool is starting to turn green. We call the store and told the guy but says he can't come back to fix the cleaning because they are too busy. Canceled with them and they didn't even bother to ask why were canceling. My pentair Pool pump broke. I started doing research and came across Downey pool supply, since it was not to far decided to go . I can not be more impressed with the level of customer service, professionalisms and honesty. Saul and his wife gave us the absolute best service. With this current pandemic you do not expect any less. I brought in my pump and Saul checked my motor prior to just offering me a new one just to get a sale. He was honest and knew what he was talking about. He provided us with a great deal and also provided us with 1 year warranty on the motor. While researching, Leslie's pools was a lot higher in price. I would give them zero stars if possible. I called to purchase 2 spa filters. I called because Leslie's and East Long Beach Pool and spa were sold out. When I called, the lady who answered the phone was very rude. I told her I needed a PMA40L and a PMA25 filter. She said those "don't exist" and I am looking for a "cartridge" and cartridges don't have letters. I asked her the difference and she said "well we don't have it" and hung up on me. If I could give zero I would. This company took advantage of my grandma. She has a salt water pool that was in perfect condition and our pool guy was moving away. We have been using Downey now for almost 6 months and my grandma has called multiple times to ask how the guy is taking care of the pool when he would go weeks without showing up and when he does come he is here for no more than 15 minutes to skim the top of the pool. They pretend like she's never called every time she speaks with them so we got a second opinion and we are now cancelling the service because the repairs that are needed are going to cost her thousands of dollars. The salinity is way off, the filter has never been serviced, there is green spots, the salinity is so bad that it's eating away at the sealant on the pool walls. They are a terrible pool service and should be ashamed of themselves for taken advantage of a woman who can't go check the filters for herself. I hope this review stops anyone else who is looking into their company for any services. read more

Both owner and wife make shocking excuses for the poor service? I ask Saul if my pool was serviced and no reply...I follow up and he says yes. I tell him pool not vacuumed and his reply "dont you have an automatic vacuum?" YES....but it doesnt go into spa or baja so had to send photos showing him! Claudia tells me in that same month rates are going up! I bring up to her the irony of poor service while increased prices and it 'escapes' her...she said "didnt we go back out and fix it?" YES Claudia...but why is it my responsibility to double check and "catch you" lying on service you charge for but don't do! Then she gets upset with me for confronting her on this?? When I first started buying my pool supplies here I thought that the customer service was great and they were very helpful when it came to answering questions. And I would have gladly given this business a 5 star rating if it weren't for the fact that if you need anything aside from supplies, the customer service isn't up to par. The pool in the backyard had been out of commission for a long time, and when we moved in and wanted to get it running we found that the parts are hard to come by since it's a very old pool. So for this summer we wanted to put a heater in so we can enjoy the pool, since no matter what season it is, the water is always freezing. I got in touch with Downey Pool Supply or Downey Pool Supplies & Services (apparently they go by both names) over the phone and wanted someone to come out to see if the heater was repairable or not. Whoever I spoke to said that someone would be out here that Saturday (I called in during the weekday) and that was fine and I gave them my info. Saturday came and went and no one bothered to give me a call to say that they weren't showing up. I called the following Monday to see what happened, and this time I spoke to Saul (the owner) and he said that there were no records of an appointment under my name. That was strike one, or at least it should have sent the red flags up. I made yet another appointment for someone to come look at the heater and this time they did show up. The guy who showed up said that it was best to get a new heater since the pool is old, which is fine. He also recommended that "important issues" be fixed as well, which include something about breaking the concrete around the pool area and fixing the tubes and stuff. At the moment I thought it was necessary but I have now seen it would have been an unnecessary expense. We were billed $125 for this guy to come out and just look around at our pool. A couple days later, we got a bill in the mail for that amount. I spoke to Saul and said we were gonna go ahead with the heater (they were charging $2600+) but told him we needed a month because we were remodeling, at which he said OK. That meant we didn't have to pay that $125 for the guy coming out. Getting in touch with Saul is very difficult. With other pool services businesses, it's not that hard to get in touch with someone. And from what I hear those businesses value their customers and they give them priority. Here, I got no priority. I would call and ask for Saul and he wouldn't call me back until 2 days later, after I had called again. We got billed again for that estimate, although Saul and I had an agreement, and a letter saying that if we didn't pay they would send that to a collection agency or whatever, which I feel is unnecessary since I was constantly trying to get in touch with Saul. That letter was the last straw, I went in and paid the $125 this past Saturday. I called another company and they come out here so fast and installed a new heater without all the hassle of having to pay for an estimate or try to get in touch with the owner. Oh, and also they didn't try to get us to break the concrete around the pool or any unnecessary things that the guy that came out here from Downey Pool Supply said we needed. And the overall cost, was a lot less than that of of the cost Downey Pool Supply was charging us. Very disappointing service. When my husband was there he asked a few questions about ideas for pool parties. The person that was there wasn't rude but wasn't helpful. He basically told my husband to look around. Downey pool supply owner Saul and his wife gave the best advice and did all the work for me. I called them before the spring break since my pool had turned green and needed that taken care if immediately so my family could enjoy the pool over Easter weekend, well I called and had no idea what to do, they simply asked me to bring in a sample for testing, that easy!!! Saul made accommodations literally the same day which is unheard of at anyother place I've done business with.I originally thought my only problem was algae and upon his inspection of my pool he immediately pointed out the problems that were causing my pool to turn green (besides it being serviced by someone else)my filter and pump were not properly functioning which I would Never have known had he not gone ABOVE AND BEYOND HIS CALL OF DUTY to help us. He never tried to upsale anything to us and simple suggested my husband clean the filter or that we had the option of him gladly doing it at a relatively lower price especially compared to leslies. Anyway, I was beyond satisfied with their customer service and detailed workmanship. Claudia and Saul at Downey Pool are the most helpful and knowledgeable people if you anything related to pool supplies, repair or service. I can't say enough about how good their entire approach is to their field. Every time I go in either one of them are helpful and always try to guide us through taking care of our own pool since we let our pool guy go. I usually deal with Claudia and I would consider her a friend. She takes the time to think of the best and most economical way to deal with my specific situation. I read some of the other negative comments and it made me laugh to see that these people were for example, insulted that Claudia just stared at this one particular lady. Duh... It was because she was thinking!!! Of the most appropriate and economical way to help her. So offended, so easily. And there were some other ones that just wanted to blame Saul because of their own error/neglect. These two are the nicest, most considerate people in business I have come across. I highly, highly recommend them as we all know that Leslies Pool is a chain and it is all about selling as much as possible. Needed a close, fast fix for my above ground pool. The woman who helped me is very knowledgable and was VERY helpful. She gave me suggestions on care and on adding shock powder to my pool. The store had a great selection of all different pool supplies, pool toys, etc... I was impressed. I called Saul, the owner, nearly a year ago when, after dealing with poor service from other pool companies. My pool turned and remained green for the third time in a year. Within a week, he had it crystal clean. I started having them service my pool every week and the do an amazing job! Last month, I had them re-plaster the pool and replace the piping, electric, pump and filter. The pool looks amazing! Saul is knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. He responds quickly to inquiries and is attentive to concerns. I have never once had an issue with billing (as previous reviewers reported) and Claudia has been friendly and helpful every time I call the store. read more

The lady seemed like she didnt want to help me, answer my questions, or sell me anything. The reason i was here was because my pool filter pump burned out. Any question i asked her, she responded with a rude question. Example, will that pool filter system work on my pool?
