This buffet really sucks on Sundays and pretty much any other day out of the week.. You usually have the big families come in with their uncontrolled children screaming and making a ton of noise. Its worse when they sit you in the back by the "fountain". The guy who cleans up the tables and has his cleaning cart there was incredibly frustrating because he or they are SO loud. I'm not kidding either. It looked like he was throwing the plates in the tub. The food is okay. It's not the best. Most of the meat items are always overcooked and dry. Downtown Buffet That American Sounded Name That Turned Out As Chinese The food is just OK as the farm raise salmon was better then I expected because of Farm Raised. Nothing is special. Soft Ice Cream is on the cheap side and chocolate syrup is very thin with over sugar with so little chocolate taste. Service was good. The Dinner rate plus soda Total with Tax: $11.75 is pretty reasonable. If Asian people properly season their foods and get better quality ice cream etc. Their business increase in fairly small city. The food at this Asian Buffet Restaurant is usually very bad. Maybe on Sunday's when they get a lot of customers, they put on a show and make good food. Otherwise the food at times is either raw and not fully cooked or spoiled, because it's been sitting on the counter all day and the like. The Restaurant is operated by a Chinese family and seem to run things as if they're still living in China. There's another Asian Buffet Restaurant in Madera, CA called "Asian Buffet", which is also run by a Chinese family, but the food there is really good. The only problem I have there is the family's son, who seems to have a SMALL ENDOWMENT ISSUE, as he harasses me every time he checks m I.D. Other than that, it's a really fine Restaurant. read more

This is the WORST buffet I've been to.... It's so dirty... They have the WORST customer service and the food is HORRIBLE. The food is typical Chinese buffet they have their ups and downs. I like to make a big shrimp salad. I'll poke at the other stuff when it looks fresh other wise I stay away. The majority of the staff seem rude or just stare but if you interact with them in a positive way they give you a smile and will keep an eye on you better as to clear your table or refill your drink. Rude customer service ! The lady was very rude when I first walked in and then I had to pay upfront which nobody else had too until after they are done eating . I have been here twice for lunch. It gets pretty busy from my two visits. Here's the deal, the food is your typical Chinese Buffet place. Food is hot, nothing too amazing, nothing bad either. But the customer service, wow-it totally just sucks. As you walk in the lady just glares at you. She does not bother asking if you need help. It's almost like you're self guiding and then when you end up looking really stupid and confuse she'll come up and ask you "how many" referring if you are with a party. She'll looks around for open tables and then points her finger. As you make your way to the table she follows you and then demands "what do you want to drink." The waiters and the lady in the front gives you a look, I call it "the look" where they want to rush you out as soon as possible. I am only in there for 20-30 minutes for lunch-there is no need to rush me I am in a rush already. I would not come back to this place again-twice was already enough to learn that I will not enjoy this place. read more

I don't know who the people are that wrote the bad reviews but they must have been here a long time ago or have an Axe to grind. For example, one person said they do not cater when in fact they do and they have a large banner across their side window saying they cater so go figure why some people say they don't?! I happen to know two of the bad reviews (we happened to be there at the same time & talked to them) are from people who eat here as they pass through from out of town and eat here on a regular basis from what they told us anyways why do they keep coming back if the food is no good?! They sat and ate for a couple of hours on the day we happened to meet them. I can only tell you of my first hand experiences. My family, extended family and many friends have been there many times and have seen the quality of food and variety go from good to better to great and my husband is a picky eater believe me! We travel all over the country and have been to many Chinese Buffets - this place is a hidden treasure especially at $5.99 all day M-F The waitresses and management are always polite there from what we have seen and put up with a lot of crap from people who somehow think that rude behavior is ok in a buffet I guess. The waitresses get drinks and refills for customers, clear dishes & clean up messes. They are very friendly. The soups are great and I'll admit it is noisy at times because of the high number of people eating but this is a good sign- the food must be good right?! I have been to a number of buffets in S.F. and DT Buffet is right up there with the best of them. Don't tell anyone, but They have exquisite Sushi and poached Salmon!!! The salad bar is better than Sizzler's in my opinion because of the variety but more importantly the quality of every dish is fresh & good. In short, most of the time the atmosphere is pleasant and the food is great! At $5.99 all day! Mon-Friday (drinks are extra) its a real bargain. I hate to sound like and advertisement for this restaurant but it's hard not to. We've been eating here for the past 5 years and go often. It has a great salad bar and the sushi is on par with the best I've ever had. There are poached salmon, pot-stickers, fresh sushi and ginger, wasabi, peel and eat shrimp, garlic shrimp, beef and broccoli, sweet spicy orange chicken, spring rolls, fried wontons and sweet sauce, fried chicken, a desert bar, soups and much, much more including mashed potatos and gravy and a so-so pizza not bad just not on par with the quality of everything else. Drinks are extra for a $1.30 and refills are free. My family, extended family and many friends go there on a regular basis especially at the price of $6.99 lunch-dinner. Ask for Michelle's section, she is a great waitress, works hard to keep tables cleared of empty dishes and refills drinks for you. But no matter who you get as a waitress, don't forget to tip as these people work much harder in a buffet than any regular waitress at a regular restaurant. read more

I was a regular here up until a few weeks back I had consecutive visits with absolutely horrible food. I think they changed owners and went cheaper on the meat quality. I loved the teriyaki beef before when it was tender. Now it's like rubber chewing it forever. Yuk! Food warmers are broken, all food is lukewarm at best unless it just came out. You will also get the runs guaranteed, if you eat here.I even saw 2 roaches there my last visit!! Disgusting!! The staff is rude and lazy and the young busboys are a joke! They flirt with the skinny hostess while the customer's tables are piled with dirty dishes! This place is going downhill quick! Don't waste your money people! So we recently moved to Madera and wanted to go and explore the restaurants.As our first choice we had chosed Down town Buffet because some relatives had told us it was the best. So we went and gave it a try. As we enter we see a woman standing there with a face of like she didn't care about her job. She asked us for our drinks and then took us to our table. The food was pretty good so no comment but while we eat all I saw was the employees walking around like if they had nothing to do. Our table was getting full of dirty plates no one topless turno of our table. One employee went outside to smoke while plates were stacking up not just my table but other tables were having the same problem. Our cups were empty and no employee came to serve us until we had to go and tell them to do their job. So the guy finally came and did his job and took our dirty plates but he also took one of my family members plate that he was still using away. So we decided to just ask for a check the bill was 84$ for just 6 people. We will definitely not be back. read more
