Came here for a girls night with two friends and originally requested an outdoor table, but were told to sit all the way back right next to the shed of firewood that was crawling with bugs (note: the place was virtually empty, so plenty of seating elsewhere). We were given a menu, but half of the things were crossed out because they didn't have it. It was hot outside so we requested ice, but they didn't have any ice, so we asked if they could chill our wine, but this request was initially ignored. Because of the heat and the bugs that were eating at our ankles, we requested to sit inside. The waiter accommodated this, but also openly made fun of us for this to his colleagues, which was very rude (I don't think he meant for us to hear, but we did.) We got our order, but the waiter didn't check in with us for some time, and we had to serve ourselves to get plates for our shared meals. Once he noticed we had plates, he scolded us for having them. Saying "we don't provide large plates for our order" and that he had to "lay down the hammer" to make sure it "doesn't happen again." Strange. After that, never checked in with us for a long time until we flagged him for the check. He left us with the iPad to pay and then went outside to smoke, so we got up and left as soon as it confirmed payment. All in all, expected way better from this place. I have lived in Hoboken for 10 years, and Dozzino has been one of my favorites since it opened. The wood fired pizza is hands down the best in town. Their "honey" pie and the roasted garlic one honestly make my mouth water just thinking about it. I've always loved the simplicity of the place- you can show up with a big group, a bunch of bottles of wine (BYOB!), and have a delicious meal in a nice atmosphere. My last few visits have left me feeling a bit disappointed, though. I feel like Dozzino has dropped the ball a bit in terms of ambience-- their backyard isn't what it used to be - no more bocce court!! And the backyard isn't as well maintained as it used to be. The inside is always kind of deserted and the servers aren't as strong as they used to be. I'm so sad and I hope that someone from Dozzino reads this-- seriously , I am one of your biggest fans but I feel like you guys aren't making the most of your space and could totally make the vibe so much cuter!! Your backyard has so much potential!!! Also, maybe throw on some vibey music for inside dining so it doesn't feel as eerie and deserted when you're dining in there when it's slow. I'm rooting for you guys and I'm getting nervous seeing the place to desolate and slow lately. I think a few little tweaks could make things so much better :) Their pizza is still a 10/10, so don't hesitate to get takeout from here. The pizza is good - not great. Like the brick oven taste of the crust. But it's a bit too doughy and chewy for my liking (personal preference others may like that). Tomato sauce was a bit strong relative to the rest of the flavors. Also note no substitutions regarding toppings. Real issue is Service - took about 40 minutes once we ordered to get pizza, and finding waiter for other questions or bill is difficult. Prices were fine, I'd return and try delivery also. read more

My friend and I decided to give this place a try recently as the reviews were good. We ordered the diavola and the cipolla pizza both with no meat. I definitely enjoyed the cipolla more but the diavola wasn't bad. The setup of the place is strange in the back and should be cleaned up instead of feeling as if your sitting with their storage items. This spot is small but has some outdoor seating for when the weather is nice. Although the place was empty they made us sit in back with a large party and they were really loud which made it hard to talk amongst ourselves. Do note that they don't even have soft drinks at this place which I find truly odd beside some grape flavor Italian soda. How does a restaurant not provide soft drinks at least, especially a pizza joint?!?! So w/e your beverage of choice is, make sure you bring it or your stuck with tap water that they put into reused distill water labelled bottle. read more

The aristian pizza is pricey, but is very good. They make their own sauces and ingredients, and everyone that works there seems very proud of their fare. Wow, this was some seriously tasty 'za. Came in with a large group for a birthday dinner and this was the perfect pick. You can call ahead for a reservation, they have plenty of large tables, it's BYOB and the menu is easy to please. Definitely couldn't ask for more. Well, guess it would have been nice to enjoy their bocci courts in the backyard. Will have to come back over summer! The menu has a variety of small plates (salads, crostini, veggies, meatballs, etc) and then lots and lots of pizza options. They were out of a decent amount of the small plates, but luckily had a ton of mouthwatering special to make up for it. We started off with some bruschetta and ricotta crostini for the table. I wasn't a huge fan of the ricotta (weird texture, sort of looked and tasted like greek yogurt) but the bruschetta was excellent. The tomatoes were so fresh. For my main I ordered off the specials menu - brussels sprouts and pizza with ricotta, pepperoni and caramelized onions. The sprouts were incredible- perfectly crunchy and topped with parm cheese. Two orders came out on a large tray that could have easily fed our party of 10. The coal fired pizza was bomb. Thin, crispy and cheesy with a generous amount of toppings. Only complaint was that there was too much crust. Because the pizza isn't that big to begin with, we weren't left with a whole lot of pizza. Because of that, I'd suggest ordering a solo pizza, or getting at least one other thing if you are going to share. Bocci in the back you say? What? Yes it's true. This place has an outdoor bocce court and is BYOB. I found out about this place and spoke with the owners who seemed cool enough so when my buddy had a bday party coming up I mentioned Dozzino. We had the room in the back and the outdoor space to ourselves. We all rolled up with our own booze and the food came out. We started off with different types of crustini. They were good. I'm usually not a fan of these, as in me personally ordering them and I don't think I'd come back for them but, they were definitely flavorful and good. One adorned with sweet tomatoes while the other was more of a pesto like sustenance. The meat plates were delicious: very simple, salamis and prosciutto on a pizza platter. The pizzas came out. So this place isn't American style pizza. These pizzas are personal size (someone with a nice appetite) and they are simple and fresh (i.e. not overloaded with cheese or sauce). They were good! The place is set up very stylish with open white walls and dark wood tables and floors. The outdoor space is simple with a patio and tables and chair and of course... a bocce pit! Definitely be back on a night with a bottle of wine for some pizza and bocce. One FYI: They don't have ice! So in our case we had cases of beer/white wine and we had to go buy bags of ice. Heads up. I'm constantly craving the Bianco, what can I say. Dozzinos has a perfectly hipster vibe, with bar side, dining room, and outdoor seating with adorable hanging lights. Don't forget the place is BYOB, and from my experience I've yet to get an ice bucket so either bring a nice red or ask to have your bottle kept in the fridge. Come early so they don't sell out. Less is more at this brick oven artisan pizza shop. Menu lists 4 simple sections: crostini, salad, pizza, drinks. Daily specials are listed on the blackboard in front of the bar. Simple ingredients create a great tasting pie. Good thin pies you can share with another person. My two buddy's and I decided to get three pieces + a the specialty crostini and share them. Perfect amount of food. Mark + Lauren where great servers. Telling us about how all the visible wood was salvaged from the original structure. A bocce ball court in the outdoor seating area in the back is fun to play while you wait for your food to come out. Pay with your credit card and you get to have your receipt texted to you via the credit card scanning iPad. Pretty boss! A great spot for people who want to drink and socialize while having a few bites of brick oven goodness. Had a reservation for 7pm on a Thursday night. Arrive for our reservation 5 minutes before and go to check in. We're told by the incredibly rude and smug worker that they sold out of pizza. Somehow a pizza place sells out of pizza in the middle of a Thursday night. At first we thought the smug, unapologetic worker was joking with us, but he says that he just sent out a note to us that our reservation had been canceled (this was at 6:58 pm for a 7:00 reservation). So we leave without any apology or remedy to the situation. I will NEVER be back here because of how rude the worker was, and it's a real shame because the food sounded delicious. read more

Just an update. I read Oscar's review and it's spot on. In my earlier review I didn't comment about the quality of the food as I wanted to wait a bit for them to iron out any kinks. I told them to rub their bruschetta bread with garlic when it comes out of the oven and to add more salt and based on Oscar's review they didn't take my advice. Also, asking a customer "It's so good, isn't it" isn't a way to generate honest feedback that will help your business. They asked me that question 2-3 times. If you guys (the owners) read this, please take our advice that we're giving here and stop asking us while we're visiting your restaurant. I went into this restaurant a few years back, and did not have a great experience, but was willing to give them a try when a friend really wanted pizza and DiNapolis was booked solid. The meatballs were great - good size and sauce was delish. The pizza ... not so much. It's mainly crust with the stuff you wanted on it in the center. The crust was doughy and not cooked enough. We asked them to cook it more, but because we cut into it, they could not put back in the oven. They could have brought us another pizza made well done, but this was not an option. If you want good pizza in the backroads of Hoboken, I would suggest Flour Pizza (5th and Jeff) or 10th Street Pizza on Willow. Sorry Dozzino! read more

Yes you read that right: I came here with a group on A Friday around 7pm and waited AN HOUR to be seated only to be seated and then told that there was only about (4 PERSONAL, mind you) pizzas left for the whole place... so we would only be able to have 2 since another table also hadn't ordered yet. Literally let us sit there an hour waiting to be seated before telling us that. You should also know they don't have ICE .... so if you want to enjoy an ice water or some ice for your wine, then you shouldn't go here. "We don't have a freezer" Also: if you want grated cheese to sprinkle on your pizza, that will be a dollar extra. Not a joke... they seriously charge a dollar extra for parm cheese. They are wildly overpriced, and don't know how to run a business.... Don't waste your time here. Go to somewhere worth your time: Grimaldi's, Napoli's, Zero Otto Uno... to name just a few. Bean salad with undercooked beans and greens salad underwhelming with just some washed lettuce greens which could be ok if great greens and great dressing but didn't like the dressing either. On a Thursday night, they closed the back dining area and only had seating in the front. It was still somewhat busy for a Thursday late evening. Service was good. My dad, sister, and I get Dozzino's a lot! This pizza is totally authentic. We usually stick with the Bianca and the Cipolla for Covid takeout. I'm vegetarian so I eat the Bianca. This pizza is a fun mix of cheeses. It's very flavorful for just being cheese. The dough is fluffy and the crust is nice and big! I have to say this place is more of a hit for my other family members. Dozzino, like many other restaurants, has little to no vegetarian options other than sides. There is something incredibly charming about a modest pizzeria in the western Hoboken with aloof waiters and busy hostess. So many things about this place make it a quaint and unique experience. So what if they didn't have any sparkling water? What they lack in accommodations, they make up in dough. Both the suggestions for Pizza were remarkable. If I had to compare it to any other pizzeria, it'd be most like L'Azzo ...what with the "we run out of ingredients, so we close" and thin crust - hand tossed pizza with simple, yet delicious toppings. Try it for yourself and try to look past the negative reviews. If you just concentrate on the pizza itself, you will really love it. Came here with a group of 6 on a Friday night w/ a reservation. Overall, the food was good and everyone in the group walked out for under $25 (YAY BYOB!). We ordered the meatballs (YUM!), two salads and 3 pizzas - one was a special cacio e pepe that was delicious! The pizzas come uncut and they give you a pizza cutter which was perfect for our group to make sure everyone got a piece! Cons: It is LOUD at dinnertime. We were practically shouting across the table at each other and it was impossible to hear the waiter read off the specials. When we asked the waiter how big the salad was, he held his hands a foot apart to indicate the size and said we could share it... Well it came, and it was about the size of a house salad. We had to order another. We also asked for bigger plates - the ones they provided are as big as the palm of my hand - and they said they couldn't give us bigger ones. There was a massive stack of them sitting on a shelf across the room, but they were not to be given to guests. We ordered a side of bread that was never brought but it was on the bill at the end of dinner - they took off the charge when I asked. We also had to get up and go to the bar to remind them about the espressos we had ordered at the end of the meal. Only after they were served did they tell us they had no milk. read more

I have been to Dozzino's multiple times and always had a great experience. They are also one of my favorite pizza spots to order delivery from in Hoboken. The Honey is unlike any other pizza I have ever had before, it's incredible. There's something about the sweetness from the honey mascarpone paired with the salty from the prosciutto - if you haven't tried it before, it's a must! We also love the Diavola - it has a little kick to it with the red pepper. We finally came here. It only took a couple years but we made it to Dozzino. I think this may be our new spot for special 'za in the area. I would say a solid 3.5 stars. I got there before my bride and her sister so I had to wait, so I popped a beer (it's BYOB) and waited at the counter. When they arrived we were sat in the back, not outside though. The outside did look nice however, the bocce ball court was a little damp otherwise I woulda been out there. Anyway onto the dining experience. I like the reclaimed wood tables and I like the few options they have. We ordered the Spesto Crostini. It was great, but it did need a bit more seasoning just a pinch of salt in that mix would have made this much better. The other crostini's looked great so I can't wait to try them. They did have some specials which all sounded good. They also have these I guess super deluxe artisan pies that cost $18 a piece, WAY to rich for my blood for a pizza unless they are covered in gold. I got the Diavola pie which definitely has a kick, it says red pepper on the menu, I guess for whatever reason my mind envisioned red peppers on the pizza, alas they meant in the sauce or crushed red pepper. Either way it was good. My wife got a white pie with spinach and artichoke. Plenty of spinach very little artichoke but it was very good. Her sister got just the plain pizza which was, well plain. The crust here is excellent and way better than Grimaldi's I loved that my sister-in-law doesn't like crust because I gobbled hers up like it was my job. They do run out of stuff, this time they were out of garlic. Um, at first we were pretty worried. How does a frickin pizza place run out of garlic? And fairly certain every store in Hoboken sells garlic. Unless this is garlic from New Zealand that is harvested only on full moons when wind blows from the east. But either I guess the other stuff is pre made with with the garlic. But, seriously of all the ingredients to run out of that one is pretty silly. It was a nice place, and I can't wait to come back to try more of the pizza varieties and the marscapone and nutella dessert pie. read more
