The crust itself felt more along the lines of a thick/deep dish, which may be because it's such a moist slice to begin with considering the sauce. Visited Artichoke Pizza while hanging out in Hoboken. It had been quite awhile since my last Artichoke slice, since i used to go to the one on 14th street in Manhattan. They are not nearly as busy as the Manhattan location at 2am, so the pizzas are sitting in the glass display instead of the constant turnover of hot fresh pies at the other location. It's still pretty good though, and prices haven't gotten too crazy at only $7 for a massive slice. I got a crab slice and artichoke slice. I prefer the artichoke, but both are good. Artichoke has and will always be one of my favorite pizza spots of all time. Their famous Artichoke slice ($7) is gooey, cheesy, and overwhelming in the best way. It's definitely a lot to have for one person and it's a huge slice, but it's so yummy if you're a fan of artichoke dip. The Crab slice ($7) is also delicious with its thin crust and cajun crab topping that gives it a nice twist. The service was quick and it was a fulfilling meal. The gentleman at the counter greeted us upon entering and took our order right away. Pizza was already made so it was just a matter of choosing some slices to be reheated which didn't take long at all. My absolute favorite slice was the vodka one, I would order an entire pie of it. Ordered the following for takeout: Crab Slice (2.5/5) The crabby layer added a hint of sweetness but had this imitation crab meat taste, which I personally did not love, nor hate. This mild disappointment added to the severe disappointment of the extremely salty creamy layer. This slice was pretty meh and the only part I liked but again is questionable - is the greasy, crispy crust. Not sure if it needed to be that greasy given the rich (nice way of saying a bit much) creamy layer that this pizza had. Artichoke Slice (2.5/5) Also salty. In fact the saltiest of them all. That aside, it had redeeming qualities. The cream on top was a bit much, and a bit of too much salt in that just leaves you with a bad taste. Maybe a drizzle of balsamic to add acidity and tang to the rich, salty creamy layer could take this slice a long way. Or maybe figs or raisins or something else to jazz it up. I only enjoyed the crispy crust on this one. Sicilian Square (3.5/5) The dough itself felt dry or rather dense. Not the airy, focaccia-y base you'd go in expecting. The tomato sauce and cheese combined were on the saltier side which added to the overwhelmingly salty experience from all the other items ordered. Less salty than the other two but still noticeably salty. Almost wished the tomato sauce was tangy enough to cut the salt taste in my mouth. I have heard otherwise about this place from a few friends, so I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt of it being a one-off bad day. I have heard about Artichoke Pizza for years! I don't usually visit Hoboken but I did this past NYE and decided to stop in for 2 pizzas and a few speciality slices. We ordered a pie with the vodka sauce and a pepperoni pie upon recommendation. I had to order a slice of the artichoke pizza (see if it lived up to the name!) and my hubby ordered a slice of the crab pizza. It was love at first bite. Both were delicious. My hubby is still talking about the crab pizza. The vodka slice was delicious. The sauce is was rich. I'm not a fan of pepperoni but everyone was raving about how delicious it was. The whole order took about 20 minutes from when we ordered to it being ready. We arrived around 6:00 PM on a Sunday and it wasn't too busy, it was also NYE so that can be why. By the time it was 12:00 AM the place was packed. A line went all the way outside. I'm excited to visit Hoboken again and enjoy! read more

I first tried Artichoke Pizza for late night slices in the East Village in NYC. Even though it's considered drunk food, it's still very much a culinary gem. I love their signature slice. As far as pizza toppings go, artichokes are pretty unexpected, but somehow they've found a great niche. The slice is incredibly thick, with a super crispy, charred crust. They use a layer of parmesan alfredo sauce that's delicious and creamy. The artichokes themselves are smooth and blend right into the cheese. The slices are large and very filling. It's rumored that one slice is more than 1500 calories and I believe that. I have definitely eaten one and not needed another meal for the rest of the day. I love this pizza so much that I bought an entire pie for myself to celebrate my move back to NYC. It's only at this Hoboken location that I discovered their vodka pie, which I think might be my favorite pizza of all time. Their vodka sauce is very flavorful and it's applied generously so that the creamy sauce and crispy crust create a perfectly balanced bite. The slices are rectangular so that also gives a bit of unique flair. I can't recommend it enough! The Hoboken shop is very small. Most of the space is occupied by the counter so this is definitely a place to order ahead and grab for takeout. It's in a busy part of downtown but I'm always able to find a parking space decently close by. read more

Just had an excellent meal from here. Got a slice of the Margarita, and one Staten Island. The Margarita was really a delicious slice of pizza, and hit the spot on every category from texture to sauce to cheese ratio. Several fresh leaves of basil cooked into the cheese, and the flavor of the tomato sauce was just the way I like it -- tangy and slightly salty. Not at all bland. I've had Artichokes before on many occasions and don't remember it being as good as it was for me tonight. This is an above-average tab and I can get close to $20 if I'm hungry, but the freshness of the ingredients and the size are also well above NJ Pizza Commission standards. This is more expensive than regular pizza but cheaper than "normal food." Crowds. A couple of times I've skipped because of crowds and maybe you should too. I was there at noon on a weekday, completely empty. This is Hoboken. Have you seen the non-socially distanced lines at Insomnia Cookies? Instead of having the Uber driver swing by Artichoke Basille before heading home late one weeknight, I decided to order delivery & see who got to my front door first -- me or the pizza?! (I won the imaginary race by a few minutes.) I added on a Sicilian square at the last moment. It has the exact same toppings as our two Margherita slices (lots of fresh basil, cheese, plum tomatoes, & olive oil) but I wanted to compare the regular crust to the thicker, twice pan-baked crust of the square slice. The latter was a little more crisp but also had a few undercooked spots of dough. The regular crust was soggier but more evenly cooked, as thin crust tends to be. I lived down the street from the original Artichoke in the NYC where me and friends would wait 30 minutes on a line that stretched out the door at 2-3 AM, so you can only imagine how excited I was when they opened one here in Jersey after I left. I still remember the sticker shock at the price tag for a slice the first time then realizing I'd pay even more after that first bite. So why the 3* review you ask when I praised the pizza in NYC so highly? To be honest, it just wasn't the same. The sauce on the Artichoke slice was a bit runny and not as creamy. You may have already heard of Artichoke Basille from its multiple locations in NY. Well, it has finally made its way to Jersey and it was only natural that I tried their signature slice, the Artichoke. In addition to the Artichoke, the chain offers a few unique slices like the Crab slice as well as more traditional options. I'm kinda glad I didn't order two slices at once because the $6 Artichoke slice was more than enough for me! The pizza itself was ok -- it was topped with heaps of ricotta, artichoke hearts, spinach and cream. The crust of the pizza was very thick which probably made it very filling. After the first few bites, it was hard to finish (I guess I'm more of a traditional tomato sauce gal). Also, the guy behind the counter wasn't particularly personable. When we tried to use the Yelp check-in deal, he actually looked confused as if he's never heard of Yelp and refused it at first. Welcome to town! While the pizza was good, I only grabbed 2 slices for take out... so it was cold and needed to be reheated when I got home. Although it was a fresh pie they had just claimed to have taken out... it was never really hot. The pizza was on my lap in an Uber home and I didn't feel any heat. Ok moving on... Right off the bat when you walk in it's hard to understand where to order and who is just standing to pick up. They really need to fix this. They need a large sign, PICK UP HERE for those who also called ahead, pre-paid and want to pick up their order....It's too small of a shop to have this confusion. When I stopped by they were busy (8ish on a Saturday), I couldn't imagine had it really been packed. Just chaos waiting to happen. I also recommend they fix the small box, it didn't close right and the side was ripped. I asked for a larger box to make sure it didn't spill or leak. The small box clearly doesn't fit the large artichoke slices. They need to work on this. Other wise pizza was good- I only tried the artichoke. Surprised at the 3-star average for this place, I honestly thought it was pretty great! My friend and I ordered a pie of the signature artichoke pizza on Uber Eats during a tropical storm and they still managed to deliver piping hot pizza to us in under an hour! Our location was in Jersey City which is a 10-ish minute ride from the location, but considering the weather, I'm still grateful that they were willing to deliver and that it didn't take us way too long to get our food. The pie itself was definitely fresh! It was still very warm -- despite being driven around in a torrential downpour and the taste is phenomenal. It's rich, creamy and artichoke-y!! It has the perfect amount of garlic on it - I love the way the flavors were balanced. It is VERY heavy though. I could barely finish a slice. I would 100% order this again. The only downside is that because its so creamy and thick it gets soggy quickly -- next time I would ask for it to be well done. Ok tasting artichoke pie, service was really disorganized. Very high Prices, fancy pies, primarily a take out restaurant? Identity crisis. Went here Friday night for a pickup order and the place was packed! We had ordered ahead and had to wait 25 extra minutes for our order to be ready, which I could kinda understand with the amount of people ordering food. But the environment felt like a disorganized deli; people getting the wrong order, employees forgetting the orders, and employees sternly speaking to one another... which left an uncomfortable vibe in the air for the 40 ish minute time we stood there watching/waiting for pizza. When it comes to the artichoke pie we ordered, it was ok. The pie was deep dish style, and was really gloppy with the sauce they put on top of the pizza. We felt there wasn't a ton of artichoke either, or the sauce just overpowered it. It's an ok pie but for over 30 dollars and the place having artichoke pizza in their store name, you kinda expect them to nail this.
