Service was fine and they live up to their reputation of being a place that won't gouge you. The employees except the owner are all super nice and friendly. That being said , if you want any type of normal greeting or just plain civility or how about a an explanation this is not the place for you. The owner does not make eye contact, barely speaks and acts as if he is A too busy or B doesn't give a crap. I prefer to have a relationship with my service people, at the very least a friendly smile! Is that too much to ask? After having a tire bust, I did an online search for auto shops in DC and called DP Auto. David quickly went and picked up the specialty tire the same day and put it on--for less than a few other places in town. As bad luck would have it, my fiancée hit the same road hazard nearby and the same tire was punctured! We couldn't believe it and went back to David. DP Auto Sevice is amazing. They have friendly mechanics, great prices, and efficient services. Usually, I am apprehensive about going to a mechanic because they tend to get over on women(i.e. charge high prices, not fix the problem, say everything is wrong with your car). However, I do not have to worry about that with DP Auto Service. I don't live as close to them as I used to. However, I would rather take that 30 minute drive to see them rather than go to a mechanic up the street. Please check them out. You won't regret it! read more

I brought my car in for a simple oil change. They took the old oil out.... and failed to put any oil back in. I brought to their attention that my oil light was on. When they investigated the issue, they lied, claiming that my 4-cylinder takes 6-quarts of oil. The owner's manual clearly states that it takes 4.5 quarts. While the owner (Dave) was respectful and honest with his opinions with me, the crew definitely does NOT live up their motto: "Pride is in our honesty and your safety". read more

Dave at DP Auto is great! When I first moved to DC I was worried about finding someone I could trust. The first time I took my old '97 Honda there to have the radiator replaced Dave let me buy the part myself for a cheaper price at Auto Zone and only charged me for the labor. The next time I went he told me my car needed several major repairs that would cost upwards of $2000 (more than the car was worth) and that the car was not at all safe to drive. He gave me advice about what kind of price I could get if I decided to sell the car as it was. He even offered to buy it from me or help find someone who would. This past August I took my new (used) Santa Fe to a Midas near my new apartment for an oil change. The guy there told me I needed to replace the power steering pump because it was leaking and that I needed a new front axle and quoted me almost $900. I called Dave who gave me a substantially lower quote and said he would check the whole power steering system because it could just be a leak in the hose rather than the pump itself. I dropped my car off and Dave called later that day with an update- new axle definitely needed but the leak in the power steering was only in the hose and was so minor that it didn't need to be repaired right away and was perfectly safe to drive. I'm so glad I decided to have Dave check it out because he is always honest and doesn't try to get you to fix things that don't need to be fixed. About a week after the axle was replace I took a long road trip. After I got to my destination I noticed a strange vibration every time I accelerated. At first I wasn't too concerned but it seemed to have gotten worse by the time I got back to DC. About a month and a half later I called Dave up to have it checked. Turns out there was an issue with the axle that was replaced and he replaced it again for NO CHARGE!! Great service and very trustworthy in an industry where everyone always seems to get ripped off! Will never take my car anywhere else. read more

Super shady. My check engine light came on so I stopped for a diagnostic test. The test took nothing more than 2 minutes. The problem was an oxygen sensor. The man (assuming I'm an idiot or didn't know about cars since I'm a young woman) said it would be around 500 because they'd have to take the car apart. FYI- the oxygen sensor is on your tailpipe and costs about $80 to fix. He then said (after giving a look like he was just guessing) he wanted $20 in cash for the diagnostic test. Took my Vehicle in here yesterday after blowing a serpentine belt. David was incredibly knowledgeable, and the service was fast. The car was on the lift within 10 minutes of arriving. belts were changed within another 15 minutes. I opted to get some of their other services because I had been seriously neglecting this vehicle. Left the car there over night and came back to a smoother, quieter running ride. Will definitely be bringing both mine and the wife's vehicles here from now on. Topping it off the prices were well under what other people were quoting the work at. Finding a good trustworthy mechanic is like striking gold. If you bring your car in, it's quite obvious why this place is rated so high. David (owner) is just awesome. Since I'm new to the area from San Diego, I sent a few Yelp messages asking about getting my car checked out & an oil change to 4 places in DC. Not only was he the first to get back to me (on a Saturday no less) but he said I could bring it in the next day! They aren't usually open on Sundays, but the next morning he was there solo already taking on a several customers at once for minor car issues. He was quick, efficient & everyone left with smiles on their faces. I seriously even overheard a lady mention to him why she likes taking her car there. Unfortunately, my car needed "a lot of love", so my consultation took longer than most folks that stopped by BUT David took the time to EXPLAIN and show me my worn brake pads/ areas under the hood that needed work. He said usually it's so crazy busy that he doesn't get to go into that much detail with customers usually, but I'm super grateful that I was able to catch him this last Sunday. I honestly didn't have the cash to drop all at once to take care of all the needed work that day, so he prioritized the list of the items I should get fixed based on my budget for me. Now, I know this review is super long (sorry)! Aaaaaand I actually hate writing these damn things, but I was seriously blown away by the work he started on my car, the customer service & his professionalism. I will not return to this shop, which is a real shame because it is very close to my house. I went here based on the recommendations, but had a very poor experience. David reported a series of problems in my car that I know not to be actual problems - for example, I regularly replace my brake pads and rotors myself and know that mine are in fine shape, but was told I need new ones. This made me distrust by default everything else he diagnosed. The prices are BAD! He quoted me $519 for the brake job, which is approaching a dealership price. He also quoted me $725 for front struts and $595 for front tie rod replacements. WHOA. I also asked repeatedly about a diagnostic fee when I was dropping the car off. David was busy (and never considered addressing me after I had walked in and stood there) so I dropped the car off with one of the other two staff members. They said don't worry about it, he'll call you with the report of what's going on. Then I was charged a $53 diagnostic fee, and David was not sympathetic to the fact I repeatedly asked about such a fee and was told not to worry about it. Avoid. read more

I just became the owner of a hand-me-down car and picked this place because of the high ratings on Yelp. I wanted my used car looked over and serviced. I drive two small children around in it so it's especially important to me that everything is running smoothly. I do not have complaints about the job DP Auto did. I know very little about cars, but I didn't feel taken advantage of and the cost seemed reasonable enough. The problem--and I consider this a very serious transgression--is that someone drove my car 170 miles while it was in the possession of DP Auto. I might never have noticed the additional mileage, but since I'd recently acquired the car, I'd just written the mileage to date on the title and it was fresh in my mind. When I picked up the car (it was there over a weekend), it smelled of cigarette smoke and was out of gas. I found this extremely upsetting and unsettling. What if someone had committed a crime using my car? What if my car had been involved in an accident unbeknownst to me? I did not assume that the owner, David Pham, was responsible -- maybe a rogue employee stole the car for the weekend. I called David the next day and explained what had happened. He wasn't defensive. He said he thought he might know who had done it and that he didn't want his business to have that kind of a reputation. He offered to send me a coupon for future work. I probably should have just asked for a refund (can I really take my car back after such a creepy thing happened?) but said I would accept the money in the form of a coupon. I'd paid $453 and spent $59 filling up my car. I never heard from David after that. I intend to follow-up and request my money back. (A coupon no longer seems like a good idea.) I will amend this if the owner follows through and returns my money. read more

Brought my daughter's car after traveling from Florida for an oil and filter change , I yelped this company with great reviews , took a chance , and not only did they take me in right away , in only took no more than 30 minutes or so I asked them to check a light switch on the car that was not working , not only did they take care of it in a flash but did not charge me for it as well . I used to go to the service station in this building for years and then they shut down unexpectedly last year. David Pham opened DP Auto Service in early 2009 and I've used his shop twice. Oil Change and Check Engine Light the first time and he cleared up the problem. Had my car towed there the second time when it shut off while driving. He had it diagnosed and fixed within 4 hours and his prices are very reasonable. About 20% less than what I paid about 2 miles up the road in Chevy Chase. Will definitely use again. read more
