This is my second time bringing my car to DP Auto Service, and driving home today, after paying only about $50 for a repair that I'd feared would be far, far more expensive, I realized that I want to make DP Auto the first place I try whenever I need help or service. The man who appears to be in charge of the garage--Mike--is smart and personable and easy to speak with. The mechanics whom I've met have been the same. This morning I made my way through a parking area cluttered with cars and made the mistake of getting my car between an employee and his morning leaf blowing project. The control unit failed on my 2004 Prius. The Toyota dealer wanted $5,400 to replace the unit (I'm not making this up). I got a used unit for $400, and DP installed it charging me about $100 labor. They have done other repairs for me, and I am totally satisfied with DP and the manager, David. read more

I am not usually one to write Yelp reviews, whether they be positive or negative. However, my experience this morning warrented me taking the time to write this. I called in yesterday asking a gentleman if they were able to fix head and tail lights of a VW (I've heard they're tricky if you don't take it in to a VW dealer) and he told me to bring the car in today at 7:30am and speak to the person at the shop. I arrived at 7:30 as instructed and the shop was closed. I waited until 8am when someone finally arrived. I was fine with waiting, but when he finally acknowledged that I was standing there he was incredibly rude. I explained that I had called in yesterday to ask about my VW, and whether he knew if they had the correct lights/the ability to fix it. He kept repeating "well what did the guy yesterday tell you?!" To which I said "I was told to come in today to speak with you." He then got frustrated and told me "girl, it is your choice whether You want to leave the car or not." He couldn't answer my question about their ability to actually work on the VW. After trying to rephrase the question he told me yet again "it is your choice to leave the car here." Well, due to how unhelpful and rude he was I decided to leave. They will never get my service back. read more

I have been a customer of DP Auto Service for about 8 years. I have nothing negative to say about the service I have received. David and his crew take very good care of my car. I have a 1998 Honda and David only fixes what needs to be fixed and never tries to nickel and dime me. My car is always ready the same day I bring it in. Because of the work he has done on my car and the preventive maintentance, I feel confident that my car will last at least another 4 years. I called dropped my car off to have the breaks check and David called me later that day to describe the problem and completed the work by the next day. Front breaks, pads, parts all replaced and rotated back breaks free of charge. This was my first time here so gave me a 10% discount. I was surprised to find out that he also filled my washer fluid and changed my wiper blades since they were in bad shape! Great service, quick work. I would definitely go back. read more

Very fast service getting my oil changed and a nail plugged in my tire. In and out in 30 minutes!!

I happened to stop by after my father's car (which is rarely driven) failed registration inspection. I was fully expecting to need service but after they took a quick look, it turns out all I needed was to have the check engine light reset and drive the car on the highway. No charge and the fix worked. I am very pleased and will return next time the car does need service. read more

So quick and efficient!! Was able to come here on my lunch break for an oil chance and make it back to work within the hour. There's also a CVS across the street if you need to pick up some stuff while your car is getting worked on. DP Auto was informative on what work needed to be done on my car but were honest in the fact that it didn't need to be done right this second. I will definitely be coming back here! Mazda wanted to charge me up the wazoo to replace my front brake pads and rotors. I didn't want to pay wazoo money, so I bought the parts myself and searched for a good local shop. Thanks to Yelp, I discovered that one of the best local shops is right around the corner from where I live. I was not disappointed--they got the job done in under four hours and saved me 30% compared to what the dealer was going to charge. I contacted DP Auto Service thinking I needed a new tire. David quickly realized that he could indeed repair the tire and charged me a mere $30 for a repair rather than $250+ I was expecting to pay. And just moved here from NYC And not knowing whether my old 2002 Ford Focus will survive another rip off from a dishonest auto repair service that charged me for a special nuts that he needed to replace in order to check my brakes and wanted to remove my engine in order to checks for leaks ! DP Auto Service is awesome! I had a check engine light illuminated. I have a device to get the fault code. I also did hours of research trying to figure out what was wrong and what part I needed. It had something to do with an oxygen sensor. I purchased a sensor and called in to have it replaced, letting them know what sensor I had. Lo and behold, I got the wrong brand and not the original equipment manufacturer, and instead some aftermarket part. DP Auto told me to look up the part for a specific brand that Toyota's use, and I did. While Lexus (owned by Toyota) was quoting me $420 for the parts and labor plus a mandatory $150 diagnostic fee, I panicked a bit and said no. The dealership was charging $237+tax for the part alone! I went the route of doing the diagnostic work and ordering the part myself for about $65. I went to DP Auto and got the part replaced the day of in about an hour The cost was very fair for the labor. To sum it up, I took a chance, did the diagnostic, and it's on me if it didn't work out. However, I have no more check engine light and couldn't be more relieved. I hate those dash board warning lights, and I've put this off for too long. read more

Background: I know about cars and mechanics. I drive a 2007 Toyota Prius. New to the area....My car had been making a roaring sound that got worse over time. I thought it was the tires because they were choppy. Had new ones put on at a different place. It wasn't that. Did some online research and figured it was the wheel bearings. Took it in with that suggestion. Took it to this place because of the good reviews. The estimates on money and time where exact and the owner always called before doing further work. Both front wheel bearings were replaced and an oil change. Also, the owner points out that the plugs have never been changed. This is funny because my dealer back home told me that the Prius doesn't have spark plugs. I guess that's why I never got the mpg I wanted. So, next time you want to take your car to a clean polished dealership with nice waiting rooms, etc...think again. I'll be taking mine to the crew with oil and grease stained coveralls that really know what they're doing. read more

Took the car here a couple of weeks ago to get an oil change and do a quick look under the car and the hood. Service was extremely professional; David explained everything he was checking for. When he checked the battery, he found that it needed to be replaced soon. He was very straightforward about options for when to do that, and I ended up just replacing it on the spot. I came here because the last place I took the car to ended up trying to stick me with several thousand dollars worth of work--most of which was unnecessary. The last time I came in for an oil change, he informed me that I didn't need it for another couple thousand miles and offerred to check the wheel alignment and other things. Wow - my husband and I just moved to the neighborhood and our car was having problems starting. We used to live in U street, and passed by AYT so we brought it there - you can see my other post to see how badly they ripped us off. We saw some good reviews for this place on another online site (checkbook, I think) and decided to give it a try. Well, David was so great. I dropped it off on Tuesday and he called me today, and said they gave a thorough check and figured out the problem. Here's the kicker - because it did not require hard labor to do a thorough check, they did not charge me. Can you believe it? I had issues starting my car for awhile, so I decided to go to the mechanic. When I went to go bring it in, the car was completely dead. When I called, the owner David gave me the phone number of someone who could come give me a jump. When I arrived they checked on my car right away and replaced the battery in about 15 minutes and I made it to class on time! Took our car in on the morning of December 31 to get a serpentine belt replaced. Had it back and working within a few hours. Impressive considering it was the last day of the year! Cost for parts was reasonable and labor is what you should expect for that area of DC. Double checked costs and repairs with an out of town family member who is a mechanic. I needed an oil change and to have some engine sound looked at. The guys took me right away and basically diagnosed the issue with my car by sound. They put it up on the rack, did the oil change and found the issue with my car - a leaking flex pipe. Instead of sucking me into an $800 repair with them, David suggested I take the car to an exhaust specialist and spend closer to $200. I haven't gone yet, but greatly appreciated their speed and candor. I'll go back in the future. read more
