Dr. Ink is a welcome addition to the downtown San Jose cafe scene. Located on a block adjacent to San Pedro Square Market, the modern space with high ceilings and polished concrete floors overlooks some of the new high rise apartment buildings. The drink menu has many unique creations such as the dense and flavorful Black Sesame Latte and cream tops of the Cinnamon Latte and Butterscotch Latte. The barista uses a butane torch to caramelize the top of the drink. The cinnamon sticks are a nice touch in the Cinnamon Latte. They also have high quality pure unblended teas, "Fruthie" (fruit and tea) and "Ink" (milk-blended) and tasty sparkling drinks. The pastries also look like they are from a reputable partnering bakery such as Alexander's Patisserie or Maison Alyzee, although I'm always coming there after epic lunches so I have not yet partaken. If you are looking for something in downtown San Jose other than the usual espresso bar and pour over fare, Dr. Ink is your best bet. read more

Sometimes I go into food/drink places having no idea on what to order even though I've had those places bookmarked lol. This place has so many unique drinks/soft serves that I was very indecisive. After staring at the menu for quite some time, I ended up getting the black nougat soft serve. I'm guessing that it's the soft serve version of the "black" drink since (I think) I tasted some peanut and black bean (should've asked staff for more info about it, woops). Either way, it tasted almost like a light version of black sesame. Was a very enjoyable soft serve to eat also because of its super creaminess. Surprisingly this soft serve included a honeycomb toffee topping and although the toffee was delicately crispy (didn't stick to my teeth easily), there were some parts of it that were overheated and gave a lingering bitter aftertaste. this spot is located in downtown sj and is a nice spot to study. my friend and i got here and tried two of their drinks as we did our college work here. i ordered the black (peanut, black bean, milk, caffeine free) which i really enjoyed. not too sweet, very nutty, and overall a really decent drink). my friend ordered the blue (coconut, spirulina, milk) which was also pretty good. i would say the service was good, we ordered at the register with a worker and got our drinks fairly quickly. if you get a good spot then you can stay and study for a while, some tables are smaller which is definitely just for sitting down and talking for a bit. overall, nice cafe spot in the downtown sj area. read more

The jellies had a nice grape flavour. Pineapple passion: 5/5 This drink was super fruity and bubbly. It was the right amount of sweet as well. Black Ink: 5/5 It was creamy and nutty. This is a small coffee shop right across from the San Pedro market. I had trouble parking and was glad to get here after eyeing their ice cream pictures on Yelp for a long time. I was in the mood for an afternoon pick me up while I was in the area on a Saturday afternoon. Dr.ink has been on my bookmarks list for awhile so I finally got to try it out! I'm loving the aesthetic of this cafe, first off. Large open windows, concrete and marble, clean lines, all make my minimalist loving heart so happy. Since I came on a Saturday, there weren't too many people working and there aren't so many tables around. Might be a cool space to get work done but looks like it was a grab and go / maybe a quick catch up with friends type of place. It's also near San Pedro Square so I could see people getting drinks then heading over there or just around downtown. Thanks to the cashier's recommendation, I went with their chestnut latte. I liked (not loved) it - the chestnut flavor is pretty unique and I don't think I've had something like it in a coffee before. I loved that it wasn't too sweet, but if you're someone who likes the flavor of espresso, I'd recommend getting an extra shot or something. Service was quick - not too long a line and my drink came out within 5 minutes after ordering. Stop by here before my flight back to LA. The interior is minimalist and sleek. The menu is short and specialized. And the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. I got my drink less sweet and was surprised that it was basically not sweet at all. Pleasantly surprised by that actually. If you're someone who likes overly sweet drinks, they maybe ask for them to add more sweetness. The drink was good quality and you could actually taste the tea instead of it being drowned out by the flavor of the of sugar or milk. The boba is where they lost me. It wasn't warm so it wasn't made all too recently which given the price point, is a fair criticism to make of this place. They can lean on the fact they're more of a coffee/tea cafe instead of your run of the mill boba place, but they still offer it and charge for it so...it should be reflected in the quality. For some people, this place won't be their cup of tea (lol) because it is pricier. But I'd rather pay more for a better quality tea than going somewhere that'll use like oolong powder so I recommend this spot for that reason. Main drawbacks are it isn't the most amazing boba place I've been to, the boba isn't as good as the tea, and some of the flavors/aesthetic felt like a gimmick. But all of that combined really only knocks off a star for me because it's waaay better than a lot of the local spots trying to bury quality behind sugar. Ooof big disappoint. Not sure where all the high reviews are from (maybe the aesthetic?) but this place was not it. We were so excited because well...aesthetics-and the high reviews of course. The drinks we got (jasmine milk tea, creme brulee thai tea and black tea) were all mediocre at best, super watered down but there wasn't even much ice so it was just room temp tea, not sweet but not tea-y. And definitely not worth the price. For this price peak I would for sure go to boba guys or tiger tea instead. We also got the soft serve which was probably the best out of the 4 things we got, but not worth the trip just for that. The drinks here are SO GOOD. I love this place. Almost all of their drinks are great. The Nojito is a little too sweet for me. The seasonal Piña Brew is my absolute favorite. Pineapple and cold brew doesn't seem like a good combo but it tastes amazing. The seasonal Ferrero Roche latte is also creamy and has great flavors of hazelnut. The regular Butterscotch latte is also great, if that is a typically appealing taste. The service is very quick and the baristas are helpful and kind. They handle large orders very well. Located in a busy area of San Jose, parking could be a bit of a hit or miss on the weekends especially with San Pedro Square Market right across the street. Right off the bat, their aesthetic is such a mood. Perfect for photos. And their plants are equally incredible and well grown. The location is directly across the entrance to San Pedro Square (the back end), so there's parking on the outerskirts by the apartments, or on Market Street. I'm from LA and only come to San Jose maybe once or twice a year and I wish I could come more often! I absolutely love the space and love the drinks. I got a seasonal drink, which I think was grape and a lemon green tea drink(?). Absolutely delicious and in lieu of any toppings, it had (what I think is) little seedless grapes? It was perfectly sweet without needing adjustment (and I always adjust my milk tea drinks to 25% sugar). I'm a bigger fan of refreshing drinks where I can taste the tea, and I'm a huge fan of this one. The baristas were super nice even though there was a lot of chaos in the store due to a big convention nearby. The store is also adjacent to the San Pedro Marketplace and other surrounding restaurants. I got my drink in 10 minutes but I also ordered when there was no line. I've probably tried every big and small tea/boba place in Southern California and I feel like we need a Dr.ink down here! I love elevated spaces and different drinks that aren't entirely tied to milk teas and syrup additives to the milk tea. Wow this place is awesome! The environment is very friendly and has a nice minimalist environment. The drinks and ice cream are both so pretty and tasty. Their black nougat soft serve has a nice nutty flavor and is topped with their house made nougat. The texture was so soft and cream, I don't know how they do it. I was in the area and decided to walk by here. Enjoyed my dark chocolate drink here. Took awhile for the drink to be made tho even when it was the only hot drink to be made in the queue. 2 people making cold drinks and 1 making hot drinks. Not sure why it took awhile... Therefore, I wouldn't come here if I was in a bit of a hurry, more for leisure. I don't think any of the flavors are made in house, except for maybe the topped creams. After seeing so many raving reviews and cute pics of this spot, I was so excited to try it! Off of first impressions; the coffee shop itself was super cute and chic, and the menu looked really unique compared to other typical coffee or boba shops. The menu was pretty overwhelming, so I asked the cashier for her recommendations and she was super sweet and patient, and even explained in depth all of her personal favorites and their new seasonal drinks! We ended up going with the Peach Oolong tea drink and the Butterscotch Latte. Peach Oolong Tea: 2/10 This honestly really disappointed me because the presentation was so cute! It had a really odd artificial peach taste to me that left a chemical-like aftertaste... There are definitely better options on their menu and I personally, wouldn't recommend this one. Butterscotch Latte: 6/10 The latte was notably better than the Peach Oolong Tea, and I did feel like I could taste a subtle butterscotch flavor which was really nice. I thought the latte was pretty good, and I liked how it had sort of a creamy taste and consistency. However, it didn't quite meet my expectations or feel like it was worth the price in my opinion.
