Food was delicious, server was friendly. Unfortunately though the service was very slow as far as getting the food to us, big gaps between courses & drink refills & receiving desert. On the plus side, the quality of food here has really gone up & we find ourselves eating here more frequently. We find the food to be at a good price point. I was just cracking on Olive Garden the other day, and yet, here we are. Kid K wanted Piada. None in Newark, so I searched for Italian places, and she saw Olive Garden. And apparently has a core memory of a fun family gathering there, so she wanted to go. I did not, but when it's almost 2 and you haven't eaten lunch sometimes the kid wins. Who am I kidding, she almost always does, because there has to be something for her to eat and that's not always true at my Chinese and Indian and Korean picks. It was packed, at 2pm on a Saturday. Newark has a decent amount of choices, and yet everybody was here? Harumph. Got right in though, and service was frazzled but reasonably quick and super friendly. Kid K got kid-menu mac and cheese, side of fries, and upgraded to a smoothie. She liked all of it. And the salad and breadsticks, though I think the endless parmesan was what really sold her. She asked for lots on the salad, even some on the fries and mac. Portions were big, a good thing since she is now a bigger kid. I went small since I figured the breadsticks and salad would make up part of my meal. The "lighter" lasagna. And it was a small portion, but it did end up being enough with the "free" stuff. No leftovers, of course. And I didn't really care, because it just wasn't that great. Olive Garden's specialty is good-enough sorta-Italian. And with so many other options it is never my choice. We are long term customers but recently had a very bad experience. The wait staff was not courteous and refused to seat us near a window even though there were numerous empty tables by the window. My husband has a vision problem. We were told that we had to wait for a table but could not tell us how long. Olive Garden is a solid and steady choice for Italian food. Stopped in for an early lunch. The place was not very busy for a Sunday Afternoon. I ordered the shrimp and chicken carbonara. Dinner started with the usual salad and bread sticks. I love their salad dressing and the salad in general. They have a good mixture of toppings and always bring large bowls to the table. The bread sticks are great as well. Our server was very attentive and brought everything out in a timely manner. The main dish was great, the shrimp was cooked well and had a great flavor. She mentioned being there since 11am it being 8:30pm. he told her to leave him alone which is extremely unprofessional. She was calling him, Dave I believe. This is extreme abuse of power. I was here to pick up lunch for a group who had won an Olive Garden lunch for raising the most money. Figured I'd have lunch with my young daughter since we made the trip here and I had timed the opportunity perfectly. First visit to this location. Seated immediately for lunch. Greeted by server, drink order taken. Hear phone ring few tables over - older lady answers on speaker. After 5 minutes of loud back n fourth nonemergency conversation I approached the hostess stand to complain. Both managers were up front, the female manager looked at the male manager and knew exactly which table. She said it's table 71. Figured they would address it. It's rude period. Last time I checked Olive Garden was still considered a restaurant. Rather than address the situation the manager asked us to move unfortunately my daughter did not want to move she had just finished getting herself set up. I asked male manager if he was going to address speakerphone ladies who now were going on 15 minutes of interruption in the middle of the restaurant. He said no. "People are on their phones all the time and there is nothing I can do." Uh you are wrong you manage this restaurant and address issues that interrupt others from the "Olive Garden" experience. That is your job. Right? You couldn't even hear the background music with how loud the conversation was and I was 15-20 feet away. You should have seen the other tables that were closer. It's just very inconsiderate Server Aliya was awesome! She felt bad as well but what control did she have. Just from this experience I will NOT be returning to this location. 30-40min drive - we can drive anywhere with more regard to customers dining experience. Another unfortunate event was the $18 and some change lunch chicken parm w/fettuccine. To think I would've never complained about any of this had the rude older ladies not taking their phone call via speakerphone or manager resolved issue. Btw the older phone ladies split a lunch entree. They snickered about saving money by splitting a lunch entrée on their way out as they walked by us. Imagine that. Olive Garden never seems to really disappoint it's always been a pretty nice place overall sometimes they mess the order up when I get it picked up but it's usually small things like taking off something or adding something unwanted, there have been 1 or 2 occasions where they have just straight up given us the wrong thing but they are always super nice and fix it right away. We met out-of-town family members, whom all love Olive Garden, so I was out numbered in picking this place. However, I was pleasantly surprised with this specific OG. For 5:30 on a weekday evening, there were only one or two other tables of patrons (very sparse). I was actually expecting, like all past visits to other Olive Gardens, mediocre service followed by highly overpriced food that is TGIFriday's level, but that was not the case. Our waitress was very attentive. Orders where taken, and food was presented all in a timely manner. Can't remember the exact name, but I got a shrimp and chicken pasta with a cream sauce. I was assuming there'd be minimal amount of shrimp, and very few pieces of chicken. I was totally wrong, however. The dish was full of both the proteins. The dish was hot and the pasta was nicely tender. The sauce on the dish was as described - "creamy". The only glaring issue was the horrible greeting of the hostess who never cracked a smile. She seemed put off to even have to seat us. We had made reservations for a party of 10 to celebrate an 18th birthday party. When we arrived table was ready and acceptable. A very unjoyful waitress takes our drink orders and it take forever to receive those. When she brings them back she takes an order for appetizers and those took 45 minutes to receive. One party in our group split an entree and was told they would be charged and extra $4 for sharing the salad. By the way we had been there for over an hour before she took our dinner order. Finally we asked to see the manager. She came out was very pleasant. We asked for a different server, which she accommodated. The new server was EXCELLENT! Very pleasant and attentive. read more

I like the food at Olive Garden, it's consistent, lots of it and quick..of course it's not homemade, not the best or most authentic Italian food I've ever had, but we like it. Up until our last visit this past weekend the service was good to average, pretty much what you'd expect in this area. But this last time was the absolute worst and I totally blame management for an utter lack of training. 1) the waitress sat down at our table to take our order, not once but twice 2) she told us personal stories about herself 3) she could not open or serve wine correctly 4) appetizers were brought with the salad 5) salad plates were hot and when I told the busser who was helping that the plates should be cold not hot she seemed utterly baffled. 6) we brought a cake for a birthday and when she brought it to the table it was still in the box and told us to take it out ourselves. 7) when half the cake was left and we were discussing who would take it home she said she would take it and seeing my face immediately claimed it was a joke. I along with others in our party were amazed by the terrible service, but again, these simple mistakes SHOULD have been addressed in basic training of a server..I was a waitress for 20 years in all sorts of venues and most of these problems should have been covered in the first 10 minutes of orientation. read more

I'm assuming most people know what Olive Garden is like since it's a big chain. Wide variety of basic Italian foods, endless soup, salad, and breadstick, the works. This review is mostly about the service at this particular location. We've been coming here regularly for many years and I can say that hands down this is my favorite Olive Garden location. The staff here is very friendly and we rarely have ANY issues with our meals. They get your food out in a reasonable amount of time nearly every time. My favorite thing about this location is that they are large group friendly. I have a large extended family that likes to go out together on a whim and we have an insane amount of trouble getting restaurants to seat us in the Newark area. But Olive Garden takes all 12-15 of us in and gets us seated in less than 5 or 10 minutes nearly every time. So, we keep coming back! read more

We have been to this location several times. I honestly feel like frozen microwave lasagna and spaghetti taste the same as this food. I do enjoy the salad and breadsticks. The food was slightly different than our Cincinnati based Olive Garden. Salmon and broccoli was excellent. Shrimp and Chicken Carbonera was very good. The Stuffed Chicken Marsala was dry and the mashed potatoes weren't very good. The portion size was very small. They didn't have Raspberry Iced Tea but a Peach Variety that was too sweet. She acted like I was in the wrong for expecting both to come out together and making excuses as to why. instead of blaming everyone and thing else for her mistakes she should just apologize and help her customers. After several visits to this location the food, mainly the salad and breadsticks have been sub-par. I originally chalked up the quality as maybe an off night. But the salad and breadsticks have been consistently not good and i have given them a few chances. Im not sure if its just the location but my opinion of olive garden is trending down fast. The breadsticks have come out either cold or stale and either over salted or over garlicy. There is barely any salad in the bowl and the salad has so much dressing its as soggy as cereal left in milk too long. It's unlimited so why skimp on it. The lettuce is slimy because of the over application of dressing, they portion 2 olives and 2 tomato slices and a ton of onions and its obviously bagged not freshly chopped salad from the look of the purple cabbage and carrot slices. Salad is salad but there is barely any in the bowl when it comes out. Stop skimping on something that is unlimited. We ordered the appetizer about 5 minutes before the main entree to prevent crowding of the food and yet the main entree came out literally right behind the appetizer anyway and didn't have a chance to eat the appetizer before the main course came. As for the main dish I got the chicken Parm and it was good. it had a good taste and was piping hot, my complaint here is for 16 dollars, the portions seem to keep getting smaller and smaller and yet the prices keep getting higher and higher. Pretty soon this dish will cost 19.99 and will only come with 1 small piece of chicken. Your charging me for a dish that I can make myself at home for significantly less. Chicken is one of the least expensive meats, I can buy 4 huge breasts for 10 dollars at the grocery store. The dish came with spaghetti and there was barely any spaghetti on the plate. Seems they are getting conservative on that as well. There was less spaghetti than when you order a refill on the never ending pasta bowl. My complaint is more about profit and portion sizes more than anything else I understand this is a chain and is there to make money. But the portion sizes in my opinion don't match the prices you pay and are just way too small. I can go to a private Italian place and get the same meal and the Chicken will be huge and will be taking most home for about the same price.
