This is the first buffet I have ever found that has the same quality food in a buffet as a take out Chinese restaurant. Yes, it's not high end, and yes these are not the highest quality ingredients...but that should never be reasons to go to a buffet! Everything we tried was great, and I think we tried everything! I'm going to disclaimer this review & the 2 stars from the start & say that I almost always despise buffets. So if you actually enjoy the buffet style (which boggles my mind), then you may actually think Dragon Buffet is worthy of a higher rating. But the combination of buffet & Chinese (also another non fav of mine) doesn't really bode well for this review. The food actually does taste pretty good for buffet food, from orange chicken, to beef & broccoli, to all your favs, they have quite a bit on tap. They have the usual rice options, & I actually enjoyed the vegetarian egg rolls. But I wouldn't recommend the ice cream, it's just a little too dicey for me. So they do have plenty of options & I'm sure a Chinese buffet fan would love to peruse the options all lined up for the taking. And along with the set price & rapid quick seating & service, I can see why people keep this place quite packed. I probably won't be heading back here anytime soon, but they do have plenty of Chinese food options for a good price. So bring your appetite along with an open mind (if you're like me). read more

Dragon Buffet is a decent, competitively-priced Asian buffet that is within close proximity to my office. The buffet is almost entirely meat. Don't get me wrong; their selection of different Asian style meats were great, but I would have appreciated more choices of vegetables other that just buttered broccoli and limp cabbage. My favorite food from the buffet was their their "baked crabmeat". It was imitation crab, but still tasted great. Good thing I'm generally a fan of cheap white fish. Their service wasn't the best. While we were being seated, our host got distracted by something and just forgot about us. Our waitress got my friend's drink order wrong, too. All this must have been due to the fact that the place was filled nearly to capacity. At $6.95 for an adult weekday lunch buffet, I'll certainly give Dragon Buffet another shot. read more

This was one of the smaller chinese buffets I have seen. Everything was pretty decent. The sesame chicken stood out to me and everybody and their mama was loading up on the butter shrimp. The lunch buffet is about $8 and that seems pretty fair. There were no major negatives. It's a solid place. But it's by no means outstanding. I am not a Chinese food lover, I eat only a few dishes so this review is specific to those. Buffet: No generals chicken Sesame chicken tasted old, tough. Took only 2 bites. Bourbon chicken was pretty good. Sweet and sour chicken was pretty plain, as it normally is. Teriyaki chicken was good. Ribs were ok, sweet and sticky. Sugar donuts were dense. Did not enjoy. Their ribs was my favorite, but last few times i went there some of their ribs had bites taken out of them, and they told me that is how they were. But I know better! I dont really go to buffets, mostly because the food sits out a long time if there arent many people at the place. Dragon Buffet is different. This place is very busy at all times. I have never eaten inside at the table. Always takeout. It is such a steal. My boyfriend and I go, grab a to go box and fill it up. Usually with their perfectly steamed rice, bourbon chicken, great broccoli and usually some of the good ol General Tsao chicken. We fill up the box and we both eat for under 11 bucks. I love buffets. I especially all you can eat Sushi. There is a place in Daytona Beach Florida called The Hibachi Grill. It is incredible. Fresh abundant Sushi. Ahhh I dream of it a lot. If someone with the means wants to make a bundle, follow their model. I have tried to replace it with the Dragon buffet and not only did they come up short they missed the mark completely. The sushi is scary. The food is so packed with chemicals that both me and my girlfriend felt like we were gonna die of bloated bellies, and we hardly ate anything. They serve Ice burg lettuce instead of healthy fresh spinach and leafy greens. No edimante. The rest of their spread is fried garbage. The staff hovers and monitors you. If you take a lot of their Sushi rolls they nearly smack you with tongs. As you may have guessed, I will never eat there again. It was a disappointment because I saw so many great reviews. Perhaps this the norm for the folks I saw eating there. Maybe I was spoiled by the Ol' Hibachi. Seriously, if you have the means and want to open a real, quality, affordable restaurant. Fly down to Daytona Beach and give it a whirl. Then comeback with the franchise rights, or just rip their ideas off and call it yours, then open it up. You'll make a fortune. read more

I am not a big fan of buffets, but my 13-yo son adores buffets, especially Chinese food buffets so we frequent Dragon Buffet almost on a monthly basis. We have tried just about every Chinese Buffet in the area and, with the exception of the expensive (but well worth it) Tin Tin, Dragon Buffet is our favorite. We have dined there at various days and times and the food is consistently good. It is also very reasonably priced, since they don't have crab legs. The restaurant is very clean, the service is very good and the food is always fresh. Give it a try...you won't be disappointed. read more

A little gem in Charlotte. Was looking for a Chinese Buffet and the manager at the hotel I was at recommended Dragon Buffet. I am really glad he did. Two words to describe this restaurant would be clean and fresh. It is located it a small strip mall across the parking lot from Walmart. It has a small parking lot with convenient spots. I was greeted by the manager upon arrival and escorted to my seat. Comfortable decor and friendly staff. My server asked for my beverage order and it was at my table upon my arrival from the buffet. Now the food was the experience. The selections were all not your standard buffet grub. You had your regular selection of soups, but the wonton were fresh and steamed. There was also a selection of beef and vegetable Dim Sum and lightly fried pork dumplings. Some of the assorted foods were Black Pepper Beef, Indian Chicken (spicy curry sauce), boneless spare ribs and egg foo young. They also have assorted seafood dishes. Dessert selections were standard and there was scoopable ice cream. Restaurant serves PepsiCo products and has a limited beer and wine selection. Overall restaurant was excellent and a value. Lunch price was $7.99 per person with dinner pricing at $8.99. They also offer to go at $4.25 a pound. read more

I dont mind a good buffet, although when I see too much food spread out all at once, I mysteriously lose my appetite (?) But Dragon buffet is one I will always fall back on when Im hit with a sudden asian buffet craving. I love their buttered shrimp, although you have have lady luck with you when they bring them out. People pile them in their plates higher than the himalayas! I mean, c'mon people, Im right behind you praying that Ill get alteast 2 pieces! But they are that good. Greed will take over when you taste them. I also get the green beans, which they load with garlic (a good thing if you dont plan on a smooch-fest later), soy glazed mushrooms, a fake crab casserole, scallops with zucchini, etc. Soups are yummy too and they even have a dumpling section (but its pork, so I didnt taste it). Sometimes they have Singapore noodles, which has a good curry flavor other times its just lo-mein. They even have sea bass and salmon on the buffet (not all the time, I guess its seasonal) They offer good options for vegetarians and pescatarians like myself. I didnt bother looking at the other protein dishes but they're good and plenty. Crab rangoons are too cream cheesy, but doesnt stop me from eating them. This restaurant has the most presentable and clean dining area compared to other Chinese buffet restaurants. I will rate the physical aspect of the restaurant as 4 stars. The food tastes okay but not to a point where you will look forward to eating the same food in the near future. I'll give the food taste 3 stars. Food here used to be better, but is now very greasy and salty. Not much on the salad bar. The staff refills your drinks but no smiles. The very high ceilings and poor lighting make it seem like an old warehouse. It just has a dirty appearance. I rarely eat buffet style here, I typically just order to go and I am happy with it. This was one of the best Chinese buffets I've been too, the chicken tasted like good chicken all very fresh and juicy nothing was dried out. Great crab Rangoon that is one of my favorite things at Chinese restaurant and those were the best I've ever had. The fantasy chicken was incredible. I have been in multiple times and the beef is terrible. The sesame chicken is not consistent. Once is was okay and the next time the dish was horrible with nasty sauce and under-cooked peas/carrots. I rarely judge a Chinese buffet by atmosphere but 5 feet in the door and I was like, "Uh oh". It's odd not to see a 30 foot wide mural of a pagoda on the wall or Chinese music playing loudly on the sound system. Not here. It feels like this place just took over the spot yesterday. Anyway, on to the food. It basically has 3 8-foot serving buffets for entrees and 1 more for desserts (possibly the smallest buffet I've ever seen). Quite odd were 2 small plates of sushi rolls sitting in the middle of the dessert table with no sushi station (or chef) to be seen. They looked like California rolls you'd walk into Harris-Teeter and buy (but not even that quality). 6pm dinner and the place was fairly empty (which is good because if this place got slammed, they would be out of food in 10 minutes). I did see an unusually high number of walk-in traffic filling up take out containers (which you'd think is a good sign). I will say the hot and sour soup was a highlight. Everything else was meh. I did not see General Tso's or Beef and Broccoli (common buffet staples). The egg roll was mush. The overall temperature of all our food was "just a little warm" (which seems to be a consistent comment on here). You're basically down to green beans and picking broccoli out of a chicken dish if you want a vegetable. The salmon was cut up into little 2" x 2" squares (weird, maybe they are just portioning it or the buffet can't hold normal salmon fillets like other buffets serve it). I could go on and on. This place is legitimately decent compared to a lot of Chinese buffets in Charlotte. First of all its a clean and cozy atmosphere. The coconut chicken is awesome, butter shrimp is awesome. My only knock is they don't switch up the menu at all and put different things out there. I'm sure they are trying to save money and not have to buy tons of product to keep switching out....but still. I'd like to see a few more dishes with shrimp or even something with scallops. This is one of my favorite Chinese food places in Charlotte, although some of the dishes on the buffet aren't that great. Avoid the orange chicken and the bourbon chicken. The Vietnamese spring rolls are fantastic, although I have no idea what meat they're stuffed with - it's probably better that I don't know. They also have several really good unusual dishes, try the Malaysia chicken and the Indian chicken. read more
